Pair your external GPS and create a COM port in the bluetooth config associated to the GPS device.
Open tomtom and go into gps config menu. Set other gps type and select the com number associated to your GPS. It should work...

Having trouble with my installation of tom tom 3. I have paired and connected successfully numerous hands free kits to my spv M2000 and all work fine until I install Tom tom 3. After the installation I can no longer connect to any of the handsfree kits. I am remove them and pair them again but the connection fails after they are paired. This happens before I install my Bluetooth GPS receiver.
Tom tom works fine as does the GPS.
I have spoke to Tom tom who say that the software locks down the Com port (6). and that my handsfree kit may use the same port. Is there any way of setting the com port used by your handsfree kit? Or if anyone has any other suggestions
cheers

When I start tomtom, I ALWAYS lose the hands-free bluetooth connection. I simply switch off my Bluetooth earpiece & turn it back on again. It connects fine and works OK (well as good a BT gets on these devices).
You could try reconnecting to your car kit after tomtom has initialised. Simply press the today button and the use the BT manager to reconnect.
For this reason, I have reassigned a button to tomtom so that I can quickly switch back to it after connecting back to my headset
I use a simple O2 Bluetooth headset, not a full car-kit
Thanks, but I can't even start bluetooth handsfree once tom tom is installed. I have tried your method but still no joy in connecting. any other ideas??
nah, sorry; I can only say what works for me. But then again somebody more knowledgeable might be able to help, I'm a newbie myself
You need to reinstall the Bluetooth stack AFTER you have installed TT3 as TT3 overwrites 2 files to old (2003) ones (BtCoreIf.dll & BtSdkCE30.dll)
You can find the BT stack in the WiKi
Good luck!
thanks i'll give it a go and reort back
What a a star !!!! worked like a treat. thanks dutch
I've exactly the same problem.
Noob on the site - I've searched wiki but cannot find the BT stack as mentioned. Any chance of posting a link with instructions on how to update?

Thankz Dutch
Followed the instructions when I got home this-afternoon - spot on - my BT earpiece is up and running again.
PS Just need a "hack" so the tomtom navigator instructions come through the BT earpiece now!
Thanks again

Has this got anything to do with the message when starting TT3 "Cannot open com1 port does not exist"? I have had TT3 installed before no problem, but after unlocking XDA2 I cannot get the TT3 software to work due to this error message.
@chicago: try this version of wavedev.dll: http://www.thb-service.de/download/MDAIII/Wavedev.dll
@geoff247: you need to uncheck our IR incoming beam in Settings-Connections-Beam
Grtz,
DUTCH
"com1 does not exist" message disappeared with one click of "uncheck incoming IR beams" amazing! Thanks Dutch, TT3 works again!
Geoff
silly question, but where do you put the wavedev.dll ??

Has anyone seen some competitive navigation software such as PocketMap Navigator USA (www.pocketmap.com) and OnCourse Navigator 4 (www.oncoursenavigator.com)? Until TomTom 5 comes out, 2004 is a step down and version 3 is just too slow and buggy.
@onmartin
In the windows directory - there is already a wavedev.dll file there which is hidden.
thanks dutch, but when I go to copy it I get access denied message. Tried a restart then copy but same happens. it says to check the file is not in use or write protected. it's not in use but I can't see it to see properties of file( i have set it to display all files) any ideas?
onmartin :?
Did you try this using ActiveSync (so on your desktop PC?)
Dutch, you are a genius!! thanks again

Hi all,
hope to find somebody able to help me. I have a Qtek 9090 purchased with the BT version 1.0.0. I'm using WM 03 SE. I would like to know if I can upgrade it the BT version and if yes how? Sometimes I really find it hard to configure BT devices (i.e. TOMTOM version 5.0).
Cheers
Start on the below page:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Blueangel
Then, look here where it says "How to upgrade to the latest Bluetooth Stack version (currently 1.0.0.3900)"
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=BA_Bluetooth_1.0.0.3900_Upgrade
Hope this helps..?
Thanks for the quick reply. I have checked on my device and the version of the BT is 1.0.0.39. Therefore does not need upgrade. Now my problem is to configure Tom Tom 5.0 with my GPS device which is BT and is produced by Hamlet. Every time I receive a message from Tom Tom saying the it is an invalid GPS signal and then I can read that the GPS signal was lost as soon as i finish to configure the device. Hope to find a solution

Please see this post further down the forum for possible solution..?

Hi I have a mda compctII, I also have tomtom navigator 5. I am having problems setting up me I-blue gps reciever. I can get everything running and the test program supplied with the gpr reciever connects to the device and shows gps location. But... when I go to run tomtom I cannot get it to recognise the device. It is set up on bluetooth serial port 6 but tomtom does not have this selection availible... and Ideas?
I have no experience pairing a 3rd part BT GPS receiver since I use the original TomTom. I think what you need is to first install BT_COM_PORT.CAB (attached) so that you could select on which COM port to use.
Try upgrading TT to the latest version (5.21) too.
Good luck.
one step closer... in blutooth selection I am given the option for all the com ports... but it will only allow me to select com 6. This option is not shown in tomtom just com:0,2,3 and 9.
Sorry mate, I think I couldn't be of any further help since I have no experience with the I-Blue. If my memory serves me right, I think I saw some posts about the I-Blue in Howard Forum.
Greetings,
I have tomtom navigator installed on my XDA IIs and i have polstar bluetooth GPS, BT 111, they both work fine and excellent, but the problem is, the next time when i switch on the bluetooth gps and tomtom on my XDA, tomtom doesnt detect the gps itself, I mean i have to delete the bluetooth entry in the bt manager of XDA and i have to add this new bt connection and all the bt setup again, why is it, can someone please tell me the solution to it, i mean like is it possible tht everytime i switch on tomtom on XDA it automatically detects my bt gps receivers.
Plz, thanks in advance
cheers
First of all make sure you have TomTom Navigator version 5,21 loaded on the device. Then create th ebond between the devices, and set TomTom up to use "Other Bluetooth GPS". If you have done all this how long are you waiting for the XDA to switch on the BT and find the GPS? it can take upto 45 seconds on some devices, if you need TTN5,21 download it from www.tomtom.com as it is free - Mike
I'm running TTN 5.21 on my XDA IIs with no problems, I don't even need to do anything with the bluetooth, it automatically turns on the bluetooth when I start TTN and turns it off when I close, and it automatically picks up my TT BT GPS dongle. Although there is a max 5 min wait to get a valid GPS signal.
I installed the 5.0 version then used the update from the web site afterwards.

Hi,
I have tomtom 5 on my Vario and have a BT GPS receiver that came with the copilot software.
I can't get tomtom to recognize the BT receiver. BT search on the device finds the receiver and it works ok with the copilot software. When I try to connect it using the tomtom software, I can't find the right port (COM6) in the tomtom settings, the tomtom website says choose other BT GPS and then it should have 'Bluetooth Port COM6'. Well it's just not there!!!
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks
try turning off recieve beam that frees up a com port
Sorry, I should have put in the original post that I have already unticked beam receive.
Thanks anyway - any more ideas anyone?
BT/GPS Problems
Hi all,
I have a program that can sort out the com port problems between the bluetooth and gps software.
I have included the program as an attachment, just unzip it into your PC, make sure you reboot your PDA, sync your PDA to the PC and run setup.
Problems solved.
Cheers,
John
