Is there a hack to unlock the AT&T 8525 Browser? - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam ROM Development

Hey everyone.
I have recently upgraded to the AT&T 8525 from a Cingular 8125. The phone is unlocked and I am using it on t-mobile network with t-zones.
Currently I have the Hermes_WM6_WWE_vp3G_v3.62.3_ATT_Full rom installed. The rom is fantastic!! The only problem is that the AT&T browser is know to be locked so I am unable to surf the web. I have tried other browsers but have the same result. If I update the proxy settings to include WAP it works. All http requests get changed to wsp.
I have been searching the forums for the past couple days and I haven't found a solution. Is there anyone out there that may have a fix or workaround for this issue.
I have tried the FARIA R32. That rom didn't have that issue but but had others like flaky wifi connections and no mms.
Any assistance would be appreciated.
Thanks!!

why not use opera mobile?
or pie?
i dont even remember a att browser

I am referring to PIE. Sorry if I wasn't clear. I have tried Opera and Minimo. Same results.
It makes me think here is something deeper then just the application used.
The strange part is all other apps requiring internet access function without issue. It's only surfing the internet that seems to be the issue.
If I enter http://anysite.com it gets changed to wsp://anysite.com

Not sure but seems it's a PIE registry user agent setting. Maybe this thread has the answer: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1198850

Thanks for the suggestion. I checked it out that the registry settings seem to be fine. It maybe in the Browser.DLL which they talk about in the thread.
I am going to continue to look into the problem. The other roms I have checked out don't have this issue. It's only the AT&T based roms that have this issue.
Can anyone recommend a good WM6 rom that works well with T-Mobile?
Thanks!!

Hi,
I've used Schaps 4.31 and am currently using Pays 2.15 Full without problems, but I have total internet. You mention that you have T-zones which is the 5.99 option. I think, wap is the only way you are going to get anything with that plan.

I will give that Pay 2.15 rom a try.
I've been using T-zones on my wizard for that past year without issues. WAP is not the only option of T-zones that's why I have kept it for so long.
Do you have issues with MMS on the Pay 2.15 Rom?
Roms where MMS works Internet browsing doesn't and roms where internet browsing works MMS doesn't ... go figure.
-----------------------------
I am using the Pay 2.15 rom and so far so good.
The only issue is that the symbols on the keyboard are mapped incorrectly. I need to find a fix for that now. If it's not one thing it's another.

I think when you had your 8125 the port settings were set to be open for full internet why just having the 5.99 t-zone plan and know that you have a 8525, you need those connection settings again, which I cant remember but you can do a search here or at www.howardforums.com

If you have T-Mobile why flash an ATT based ROM to your phone?

Because I hadn't found a T-Mobile rom.
It's all working fine now. For anyone who is needing the keyboard symbols fixed, I have attached the cab to fix it. Keyboard_Symbols_8525_Fix.CAB

Have you used one of the connection wizards...Schaps roms have one and seem to work for me ...but I am using AT&T so I can't say if it sets up T-Mobile correctly or not....

Glad it,s working ok now. Pays ROM includes Advanced Config from Schaps ROMS and one of the options in there is keyboard mapping, so if you ever have to hard reset, just change it there next time and you won't have to re-install the keyboard fix cab.

Can't connect to Internet via 3G, only GPRS.

Hi all,
I've got a problem and can't get my head around it!
I upgraded to the offical Tmobile (UK) WM6, and whilst I love it (much more stable) I just can not connect to the Web 'n' Walk service via 3G. I have no problems on GPRS, and I have no problems with texting and making calls on 3G. Can anyone offer any help?
I've tried all the operator settings available from this group, but haven't tried a different radio rom yet - I'm still on 1.50.
Another thing I have noticed is that if someone sends me a MMS, I get a pop up box saying I have to close the current connection and then download it. This didn't happen before on WM5. If I go back on the net after downloading a MMS, then I get the "connecting" pop up showing again.
Any help much appreciated!

Hi. Yeah I flashed to WM6 (3.60.110.4), and the radio rom that came with it is 1.50.00.00. It's an offical TMobile UK rom. Will try another radio rom, but not sure if that'll work as 3G works for phone calls and texting, but no surfing.
Cheers

Firstly make sure your settings are ok, use the network wizard i have attached.
Secondly the radio you are using SHOULD be fine however running the tests (in my signature) i found that some radios between 1.40 and 1.54 seem to hinder 3G performance (atleast on my network anyway).
Try 1.47.30.10 and see if that helps?
P.S: your radio version isnt a WM5.0 radio as said above....totally incorrect.
Thanks for the suggestions mrvanx, i'll give the cab file a go. I'm working nights this week, so time is scarce, but i'll give the radio rom a go soon. I spent half the night last night reading up on relatively good roms for TMobile UK, but I left the list I compiled in work! (The other half of the shift involved watching a boxing match between Calzaghe and Hopkins... he he!)
Cheers

Well I ran the cab file and I found I could surf the web via 3G, but not brilliantly, so I've flashed the radio rom to the one you said and it's a lot better!
Many thanks for your help and the cab file. Much appreiciated!

Had the same issue with several Radio ROMs which I have been toying around with. Sometimes 3G worked intermittently, sometimes not at all.
Now I am back at version 1.47.30.10 and 3G works again and all the time too. And the GSM reception and the battery life with this version is OK too. I suggest you try some Hermes Radio ROMs too to find out which one works for you.
Oh, and don't forget to enable HSDPA and then reboot via HTweakC 2.1b or another tool.

Thanks for the tips there - I'm now running Schap's WM6 4.30 rom and the 1.47.30.10 radio rom, and i'm back to sqare 1 with 3G reception at work! Even the GPRS seems slower. So i'll try a few radio roms. Only showing 2 bars in work - normally 3. Few freezes with Schaps rom, so might have a try at some others. It could even be TMobile issues in my area. I've got the HSDPA enabled too.
Thanks for your input.

MMS Problems

Hi there! I just wanted to know if anyone is having the same problems. Im using 8525 with joshkoss' v11 m2d rom. with radio 1.56.70.11 and on the cingular network. and using arcsoft mms composer 4281
i can send mms to ANYBODY fine. I get MMS from cingular phones fine as well. But my friend (from Verizon) can send them fine too. But the problem is my girlfriend (verizon as well) can send them but i dont get anything. (she tried sending to her brother and it works) Her brother who is on the same network can send them but i get some of his mms. not all.
Is it my end of the network or they would have to figure it out with verizon?
Or is it a program that i have thats causing this? maybe upgrade the arcsoft???
I have your setup without any issues. I would maybe rerun the connection setup wizard but I dont think that would fix it. Another good way to test is send yourself an MMS, it will show you if you can send and receive properly.
Right now I am having a similar problem with SMS and my gf on Sprint. If I send 2 texts she always gets them right after I send them but sometimes when I send just 1 it will take up to 30 mins for her to get it. We have tried everything to fix it and she is the only one I have a problem with so it might just be an unlucky mismatch somewhere beyond your control like my situation.
Thanks for the reply.
The settings are good. i can send/recieve fine with cingular members. i can send fine with her (and other friends with verizon) fine. All of my mms they received. But I cant receive hers, only some from her brother, and most of it from a friend. So its weird. But i did a hard reset hopefully that will fix it.
Oh and a side note, does hard resetting josh's rom will have the HR problem? Do i have to install stock rom and reflash rom instead of just hard resetting the phone? Or hard resetting the phone wont have much problems?
Before I flash any ROM I use the official AT&T WM6 striped ROM. I have have zero problems with HR on the Winter ROM but others have given me problems even after flashing the ATT ROM first.
yes i did that too on my initial flash of the v11 m2d rom.
but i just did a hard reset to flush out the phone and start again. So we will see if HR would come out after the manual hard reset.

if not dude, check out my winterrom, also the lighter version DarkWinter will be out very soon, I've confirmed that mms is working, at least for me on latest arcsoft
I've had the same issue with Verizon uses, regardless of ROM, including the stock AT&T WM6. It comes and goes, working instantly on one day, and not at all the next.

Thank you, are those roms m2d as well? i just absolutely love the m2d. But i have deduced the problem to be network related, not your rom. So I did the manual hard reset, installed the v5 arcsoft from the device update (i like v4 better, cause it splits mms and sms, but i might as well use the latest) and so far its working. MMS from my girfriend and her brother does take a bit of time to get to me, at least i got her MMS for once!

That is true, i think the problem is with the network not rom. Thanks for the reply
MMS has always been hit or miss with me. Even with a correct setup, sometimes I won't receive MMS from my girlfriend either, which always prompts me asking her if she always receives mine.
I've flashed dozens of ROMS, ran configuration setup, manually entered settings for MMS and I always get the same results - hit or miss.
I'm going to assume its the AT&T network. SMS is fine, its the MMS.

MMS problem with *all* 2.1 ROMs I've tried

Hey all,
Hoping that someone here has some insight with regard to a problem I am having with MMS.
Firstly, let me say that I have had no problems sending and receiving MMSes on my original HTC ROM, nor with Modaco 3.x ROMs.
Recently, I started trying out some of the cooked 2.1 ROMs appearing on XDA, and I am loving them. However, for the life of me, I cannot get MMS to work. I've tried CKDroid, Villian and jnwhiteh's AOSP 2.1 ROMS, and all do the same thing.
I have confirmed that my APN settings are 100% correct by reverting back to an old Nandroid backup from when I had the original ROM installed. I copied those to the LETTER, and still no luck. A work colleague has a G1 with the latest Cyanogen ROM, and I've tried his settings too. I've even flashed Cyanogen's APN list on the three ROMs I've tried, to no avail.
I can only conclude that something in AOSP 2.1 is not quite right. I'm aware that some people are having success with MMS though, and I cannot really explain this. My theory is that perhaps they have a singular APN for both internet and MMS. My Network provider requires two. Perhaps it is this "switching" between the two that is not working correctly. However, I have also tried leaving ONLY my MMS APN installed, also without success. I guess that kinda blows my theory out the water.
Pretty sure I've tried everything imaginable without having any deeper knowledge of what goes on in the background (which is why I am appealing to the boffins here).
Any help / advice would be greatly appreciated!
I've only used the Kagudroid and Modaco ROMS. And MMS works fie on Kagudroid, so maybe give that a go?
just tried on Villian 1.2. and it works, I have as well special MMS APN. I assume you have it, but just make sure you have type=default set for the network ( not MMS ) APN.
Wow, okay thanks, I'll give that a shot!
Just to give this problem a bit od support, i have also had an MMS problem, but i have to admit i have only been using Modaco 2.9 and 3.1.
If i am on Wifi or 2G and i want to send or recieve MMS the phone will temporarily connect to 3G and download the message and then revert back. If i am already connected through 3G the phone wont download or send the message.

UPDATE: I am officially sick and tired of typing in the same APN settings over and over again, but I can now at least officially confirm that MMS (perhaps where two APNs are used) is working in both Villain 1.2.1 and KaguDroid 1.3. Identical settings do not work in CKDroid or jnwhiteh's AOSP 2.1.
What does this mean? What makes Villain and Kagu different? I believe Kagu is based on an HTC kernel, could this be it?
Either way, I hope that this information will assist the devs working on custom ROMs in finding a solution for people like kkoouu and myself. Clearly there is a problem in the mix *somewhere*.
Hi - I too have been having this problem. It works fine with Modaco 3.1, but not with Espresso Hybrid nor Villain.
Could you detail step by step how you got it working? I've never changed any APN settings ( indeed I don't know what my settings are or how to change them! ).
cheers
Villain doesn't include a huge APN list like Modaco, so you will have to input your APN settings manually. You can get these from your Modaco ROM (write them down), and input them into Villain.
Settings -> Wireless & networks -> Mobile networks -> Access Point Names
The key seems to be that you MUST have "default" under TYPE for your internet APN, and "mms" for your MMS APN.
VERYYY Silly question -- do you have to have data-network on to send MMS?
I thought not - but I just tried it and it worked

Where did you check your setting or what did you use to compare them with.
I for example am on T-Mobile in Germany. On every custom Rom I've noticed a wrong mms apn. The mmsc was always http://mms.t-d1.de but the correct one is http://mms.t-mobile.de/servlets/mms. The port was different too.
I don't know which apn list the devs are using but the apn, at least for mms with t-mobile d, are just wrong.
Correcting them solves the issue and mms can be sent and received.

MMS problems with T-Mobile

hey guys, i have the stock rom of tmobile (windows 6.5) and i have a problem.
i dont know why, but my mms never downloads on its own.
i always get a message saying the download expired and if i want to try to download anyways.
i always want my mms to download and send automatically.
any help would be great.
(i've searched for MMS reg tweaks and things like that but nothing was ever the exact problem i had.)
T-mobile is nothing but trouble.
I was with them for 2 years, no MMS with the razor, then I updated to A1800 nothing, no MMS and no internet access.
After repeated calls to the tech support to fix the internet, they all failed and I switched to Sprint.
Sorry i am not solving your problem, but you may want to think about switching.

oh no, tmobile has always been great with me
i've never had a horrible experience with them
[except the sidekick 2009 horror fest which wasnt all their fault]
& i always got my MMS with the custom roms i use to have.
but now i like the stock rom too [odd, i know] and thats the rom i have the problem with
It's been awhile since I was on stock but have you tried going to settings>connections>connection>connections and pick *Automatically configure connection* and see if that fixes it. I had the same problem and did that and had no more probs. Hope this helps Good luck

[Q] Internet stopped working for Custom ROMs...works on orig Bell ROM

So, I've had my Touch with Bell for almost 2 years now.... I've been running NFSFAN's 6.1 ROM for as long and I've never really had any problems until about a month ago. I haven't posted it until now, but I thought I'd share.
My internet just suddenly stopped working....it would make the connection just fine, but no data would ever go through....not on Opera, not on email, nothing....
I flashed back to the Official Bell ROM and all was well......flashed back to NFSFAN, no internet.
I then tried NFSFAN's WM6.5 ROM, no internet.....back to Bell, internet.
I haven't tried any other custom ROMS, yet.
Now, here's the kicker....a friend of mine who lives quite far away now (So I haven't had a chance to look at his phone, and he knows not how to flash it) was using the same phone with the same NFSFAN ROM (that I flashed on for him) and 2 days before mine quit, his internet stopped working as well.... Seems rather coincidental...
Has anyone else had this happen? Is it possible Bell found some way of determining that a custom ROM was being used and wanted to stop it? The only rationale for such an action that I can think of is to stop people from using the phone as a modem for free.....(which my friend was doing, and I was not).
So, since then, I've just been using the Bell ROM.....sucks, but I've learned to live with it...
any suggestions?
(and yes, I did call Bell tech support....all he would suggest was to flash it back to the official Bell ROM....which ended up being the correct fix....but seems fishy)
Take a look here, this issue was solved a while ago..............
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=432487&highlight=internet&page=1311
Thanks for the link.
I actually didn't have to do that fix.....I reflashed to 6.1 and......voila internet works....what a mystery.
I had a similar problem with Xv6900 on verizon I had to change my EPST settings. For future reference if you have verizon they use m.ip default of NAI your phone#@vzw3g.com. That fixed my data.
