OEM Package? - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam ROM Development

You guys are doing lots of wonderful work!
Is there any chance that some kind soul could post the OEM package of the threaded SMS that's available on WM6.1?
I know it might not be an actual package and may be intergated into the rom but here's hoping!
I was using 6.1 and loved the threaded SMS but I have to go back to 6 and would like to try and get it on there.
Andy.

Andy,
AFAIK, a cab/OEM of this has not been made yet.

Ok. Once the package is available...
..I'll make the cab!

if im thinking of what your talking about, i bileave there is a cab for threaded sms, where they are saved as if they are im messages. If this is what your looking for, let me know because i bileave i may have it somewhere. I have yet to try out WM 6.1 so im not entirely sure if its the same thing your talking about or not.

you're *probably* thinking of the palm threaded sms app, which is different from the 6.1 threaded sms.......key word=probably

is there much of a difference between the 6.1 version and the palm one?

Thanks but I have the 'original'.
Thanks for the offer but I've tried the cab file versions and they're all the palm version from the treo. The M$ version in 6.1 is much slicker and intergrates properly with the messaging system.
I've tried 6.1 and like it but all the versions I've tried cause my tytn to stop responding. It goes into suspend and never comes out! Funny thing is that it appears to be random.
This is why I'm after the threaded sms - so I can install it onto 6! (Hopefully).
Andy.

is there a wm6.1 for dash???

dear guys, i know you are the best in upgrading our smartphones, do you know if there is, or soon will be an upgrade to wm6.1 for s620???
tnx
Not yet.. but I think that soon it will come to S620.
We are all waiting for this update
I actually got to play with a Windows Mobile 6.1 Dash but it still seemed to lag a fair amount. Just had a flashier home screen. Everything seemed to be the same. They added Copy and Paste as well.

Oh man that's great news!!! I am excited. At least that confirms that there is a very high chance we will have to upgrade. Hopefully it will become more stable and not have memory leaks.
Thanks Jamerican....
did you check the new PIE how is it, does it have flash???
How about threaded sms like the PPC version has??
i'm actually really curious about wm6.1 too. I know it's out already, so where are the ROMs at? BTW, does anyone have access to HTC's downloads for the S620-621? When I attempted to register my unit with the serial # at their site, it wouldn't let me since it knew it was T-Mo Dash instead.
EDIT: well a quick search on google yielded this interesting result:
http://www.brighthand.com/default.asp?newsID=13800
I guess that's why we're not seeing any wm6.1 devices anytime soon...
even so, here at xda-developers you can see upgrades to 6.1 for some devices, so i guess we´ll just have to wait a little bit, but its going yo be here i´m sure
Google is your friend. Many websites have covered the new WM6.1 features. Basically it comes out to these:
* Threaded SMS - A Chat like function for your SMS Inbox
* Zoom out in Pocket IE - Enables Page overview mode and better navigation
* One Note included in Office Mobile
* Running Programs tab in Settings > Memory replaced to a better Task Manager. (But the previous running programs tab was much simple and easier)
* A new Managed Programs menu
As you can see, no mention of flash incorporation in PIE. Personally, I won't upgrade until it is as fast as the HTC ROM I'm using now. I am, however, really excited about threaded SMS.
wm6.1 does exist for the dash.
Lets put it this way. People have HTC excalibur running wm6.1. 6.1 adds a new home screen, better IE (much better IE), copy & paste, new version of active sync, etc, etc. WM6.1 is also faster. I'm not sure when this will be avaliable to everyone... but it does exist.
Actually I tried it at a M$ event at my school. The lady said it would take at least 10 months for consumers to see it. That does not include carrier customization etc. Pissed me off.

How come the Wing users have the 6.1 and not us! When I had the Wing the 6.1 made it SOOO much better....sucks having to wait

Yup, i'll vouch for this. I have open touch v3 on my wing and love it. Sometimes i like to go out with my dash since its slimmer and wow its like night and day how slow it is. Even with the new HTC rom that was posted...
Am I missing something here? When did the Wing get a system that isnt released yet? I am confused

WM 6.1 is alive and well on the PPC platform. First batch of WM 6.1 Professional ROMs hit the scene about a week and a half ago and I may be wrong about this but I believe the wing (HTC Herald) was the first to get it from our fine chefs here on XDA-DEV. Still waiting on a 6.1 Standard version for our favorite non-touchscreen devices (HTC Excalibur etc)...
Also don't forget that fortunately/unfortunately the touchscreen devices are way more popular than the non-touchscreen devices.
Personally I believe my T-Mobile Dash running the HTC ship rom is way more stable than any other Windows Mobile device I have ever owned, and I've had quite a few as can be seen in my sig.
Thats interesting, I had no idea!
I don't want to waste time flashing my Dash with a cooked 6.0 ROM (HTC ROM) if 6.1 is only a few weeks away. Any estimate from the ROM cookers on a 6.1 release for the Dash?

How many of you liked Win 6.5 ?

As the title goes.. Did u really like the new Windows 6.5 ?
I tried to change my attitude positively so much but still couldn..
I feel 6.1 is still better ..
I DIN'T LIKE IT ... What about you ? Which Rom are you using currently ??
Haven't tried the "official" release, but many, many cooked flavors
and think it kinda hohum. Not that much of an upgrade if any really.
6.1 is fine and does what I need. Not sure if I'll try the "official".

Not much has changed from 6.1 to 6.5.
The two things that really catch the eye are:
- the new start menu
- the new lock screen
Both things are far better than with 6.1 so I prefer 6.5.

What is it that is in WM6.5 that you don't like. Many said that WM6.5 is like WM6.1. What are the changes in WM6.5 that you don't?
Personally, I'm ecstatic about WM6.5. WM6.1 had an 8 email account limit. That was a bummer for me since I have about a dozen that I would like to check on my phone and SMS, MMS, and Outlook counted against the eight. WM6.5 doesn't have the limit (that I have found). I have 12 email account configured and the "add email account" button is still active.
yea, 6.5 is prettier because its not them ugly white backgrounds in the programs and settings options, but really no actual difference......... but, id say 6.5 for being prettier.......

More importantly, what is in 6.1 that they like so much? As far as I see it, anyone that would take 6.1 over 6.5 is stupid AND crazy (provided 6.5 is free).
Hmm, let's see... do I want the clunkly, old looking, non-fingerfriendly 6.1 or do I want the newer, less clunky, fingerfriendly 6.5? No brainer.
Do I lose anything 6.1 had? No. Do I gain anything good? Yes. Does anything change for the worse? No. Again, no brainer...
Granted 6.5 isn't revolutionary, but it is evolutionary.
Anyhow, the 6.5 haters/6.1 lovers are probably lame ass Windows XP lovers/Windows 7 haters or people that don't actually understand technology. Probably old people actually. Also, what's with talking about 6.5 in the past tense?
WM6.5 is so much more finger friendly. i rarely find myself taking out the stylus anymore, which is great.
I have been reluctant to use 6.5 simply because of the new Start Menu. I'm not a big fan of the offset layout. I don't know why, but the layout makes me really confused. Seriously, don't ask me why...
But I like everything else about 6.5 (ie, the lock screen and the finger friendly features).
I wish there was a 6.5 ROM that uses Manila 2.1 with the HTC Start Menu...
My biggest pro is the capility to lock the screen without having to install 3rd party apps that chow battery life.

taskbar manager

Guys....Is there any cab for getting this taskbar manager shown below?
thanks in advance
I've been wondering the same thing. I know some cooked roms won't have it depending on the version of 6.5 that is used, but I also want to know if someone was able to make this into a cab.
Also, if it's not cabbed does anyone know of any other notification managers for windows mobile besides the HTC notification enhancement?
Sorry for not answering your question shatou, but maybe we'll get a better response if more people are interested in this.
no cab. this is built into the wm 6.5.1 and 6.5.3 roms. link the wm 6.5 lock screen and titanium today screen it cant be used without the required rom.

Override HTC SMS with WM SMS?

The question I have is that when clicking on the message preview or when clicking on "Send Message" from the contact details screen, is there a way to default to using the WM messaging instead of HTC's? I much prefer the threading of WM as it's quicker and not sluggish. My sig has my current phone specs.
Thanks!

Give this cab a try, I think it's what you're looking for...it disables the HTC SMS interface. You'll still have the "messaging" tab in TF3D/Sense, but when you select a message on that tab, it will go straight to the WM interface.

Thanks for the advice. I installed the .cab and did a soft reset but it's still popping up with the HTC SMS interface for messages
-Not sure if the NGR ROM is preventing the .cab from working.

That's possible, I'm honestly just running the stock tmo ROM (6.1), so the issue could just be 6.1 vs 6.5. I have seen other cabs on here that do the same thing, they might be 6.5-compatible. I don't have any of the others anymore or I'd just post them here for you. I'm pretty sure I found them just by searching "disable HTC SMS"
Would also be interested in getting the original Winmo interface working for 6.5, the sense messaging app is craptastic!
Still haven't had any luck with this yet. I tried installing the Zeyene cab but that didn't fix anything. I then installed the SMS cab that NRG provides with his ROM, but that's just a different skin and was just as slow as the HTC SMS.

Yeah, that's the other one I've used, and I know it works on 6.1, but I can't say for 6.5...either the HTC messaging module is different in 6.5, or just accessed differently by the system.

Well Zeyeene claims to be for 2.5. I've got a registry editor on my phone so if anyone knows a registry fix for this then by all means, do tell
Just checking to see if anyone's thought up anything on this yet.
I like Windows Mobile, and I like TouchFlo3D. However, I do not like that fact that the built in HTC SMS is slow as dirt. Any time I try and message someone with the HTC sms it makes my phone crawl. When I use the WM version it works much faster and I like the way it looks more. Does anyone know of a ROM that fixes this?
So apparently I've been wrong with my terminology here. I believe what I should be describing is to over ride the manilla sms application with the HTC one... But perhaps someone more knowledgeable can help me out with the terms.
anyone figure this out for wm 6.5? the modified 47dd6acd_manila worked on 6.1 but it does nothing on 6.5.. seems htc changed the filename.
i hate this laggy htc sense sms..
Bump this... please someone.
with sense 2.5...
the messager is actually HTC Message Client.
an overlay of HTC Message.
i am not sure of a cab that disables it.
but i know there are custom roms that do not include it.
those roms have the same messenger as sense 2.1 roms.
hope that helps. somehow.
in the quest for a fix.
I am looking for this fix still as well...someone please update if a fix is found. Energy July 1 ROM Does not have HTC Messenger built in...I however find Energy ROMS unreliable--so it wont work for me.
The only thing that works for me is removing text messages from TouchFlo then creating a shortcut to the text app.
Not that it's just slow the send button is in a different location using the Windows or HTC messaging. Sometimes I end up hitting back instead of send because I didn't notice which interface I was in.
bump. what is the text app?

It is just the shortcut in programs for text messages it just takes you to the default WM text messenger program.
Did you try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=556614
It's for the touch HD but tp2's quite similar.
Would love to know how to disable landscape mode in the messaging app I find the flip between modes is way to slow.
I would love a fix for this. I hate HTC Messenger so much, and I don't want to have to flash to a different ROM :/

[Q] Vito SMS-Chat and ExtremeText Programs / Compatible with Tilt 2 WM 6.5 HTC Sense?

Hi there,
I've recently downloaded both Vito's SMS-Chat and Birdsoft's Extreme Text programs as possible alternative text-messaging clients. I have a Tilt 2 phone running on Windows Mobile 6.5 - with the most recent upgrade provided on the HTC Web site. (My phone runs on HTC Sense, for example.) I'm having a problem with both of these text-messaging programs. Both programs install successfully on my phone, and both programs show sent and received messages that have been initiated by using the default SMS client; however, when using either SMS-Chat or Extreme Text, I am UNABLE TO SEND a text message. In the threaded-messaging windows, they will list the messages that I have written - but the messages don't actually get sent. Are these two programs incompatible with the Tilt 2 phone running on the upgraded WM 6.5 / HTC Sense? Is there anything that I could do to get these programs to work? I find the default HTC Sense messaging client to be slow and cumbersome. Thanks for whatever advice that anyone could provide. I noticed that someone else had posted a question similar to this one - regarding SMS-Chat only - but a solution didn't appear to be listed in that thread. Also, since my question is with regard to both of these text-messaging programs, I decided to begin a new thread. Thanks again.

Why aren't you asking this question on Vito's or Birdsoft's website? This would be a support question for them to answer. Most of us use Arksoft messenger or some other included one from our ROMs. If the program isn't compatible with your device, then they should offer you a refund.
EDIT: After looking at both websites, it appears that SMS Chat is compatible with WM versions 5, 6.0, and 6.1. Extreme Text is listed as compatible with 6.0, 6.1, and 6.5.

Thanks a lot for the advice. I contacted both Vito's and Birdsoft's customer-service departments; I'm just waiting for a response from each. Thanks, too, for taking the time to research the WM versions with which these two programs are compatible.
I tried to install Arcsoft, the program to which you referred. My phone indicated that the program installed successfully; but I cannot see the icon, nor can I find it anywhere in any of the directories. I installed a "security policy lifter" cab, too, which I found mentioned somewhere in this forum. Evidently, that little cab is to be installed before Arcsoft is. Anyway, do you have any ideas why this isn't working for me? If you do and if you have a moment, please pass them along. Thanks again for the response.

If you use a stock ROM, meaning a ROM image that the device came with or an upgrade from your carrier or HTC, then you will need the security policy lifter installed beforehand. This will lift the restrictions on your device for modifying the system files that Arksoft messenger changes. If you are running a custom ROM, then you should not need that cab at all as this change will already be cooked in.
Make sure that you install the WVGA version of the cab file. This is the resolution that the Rhodium (Touch Pro2) uses, which is 480x800.
Arksoft Messenger is meant to replace the default HTC messenger. There should not be any icons or Start Menu links for you to open. The application is meant to stand in the place of HTC Messenger wherever that application would have opened.
The only other thing I can think of is to remove both of those programs and then install sdkcerts. I've attached that file for your reference. Once that installs, soft reset your device and then install Arksoft. If that doesn't work, (keep in mind that it replaces HTC Messenger) then maybe try out a custom ROM or something that has it cooked in already.

Thanks for your thorough response and for the time that you took in compiling this information. I've already done everything that you suggested, though, and I've even contacted Vito's and Extreme Text's support teams... but to no avail. Neither has replied. With regard to Arcsoft Messenger, I tried just as you suggested; but that didn't work. I think, at this point, I should just let it go. Looking for a "cooked" or custom ROM might be a bit beyond my scope of knowledge. I imagine that I'd have to do a hard reset as well - not something that I enjoy! If you could think of anything else, by all means let me know! Otherwise, thanks again for lending your expertise and patience. I appreciate it.

The first flash can be a bit daunting, but it gets easier with time. Hard resets and flashes can be prepared for by the numerous backup applications available. Microsoft Myphone will backup all of your personal information for you. Any programs you have installed from the marketplace can be re-downloaded. Any applications you've installed in any other fashion can be backed up and then reinstalled. Once you get the knack for flashing, it is a simple task to learn how to automate the flashing process so that everything installs and restores itself automatically. Most all current ROMs for the Rhodium will use a different messenger program than the HTC one.
