OK - I was almost sure this was a no-brainer well covered in these forums, but I could not search and find a solution. Pardon if I am recovering old ground, and perhaps someone can just point me to the right thread.
When I first open internet explorer (in my WM6.1 Dash). I know I can now easily set the home page to be some other html page - even without a registry hack in 6.1 (how nice!). But ... I want my Favorites (the list of links that appear then I click menu->favorites) to be the default home screen for IE. I can't figure out how to do this since "favorites" is really a directory of ".url" links, and not one single page.
So, what I want is when I start IE is to have this list of favorites appear.
Anyone have a hack, or other approach? Or point me to the thread where this was solved?
Thanks all!
not sure. i know that your favorites are stored in the \windows\favorites directory . I tried changing the home page to \windows\favorites, but that didnt work. Here's a tip that MAY work. It does however require using internet explorer on your PC though. What you need to do is first, backup your favorites on your PC... file-->export. Then you should have a mobile favorites in your favorites directory for IE on yor PC ( assuming you use activesync to sync your mobile favorites) you will need to organize your favorites and move all of the favorites from your mobile favorites to just favorites main. Then to file export of those favorites and name the file whatever you want. Then take that file and drop it anywhere on your mobile phone and then use pocket IE to open homepage with that file. This may then show the list of the favorites that your CURRENTLY have, this will not show any additional favorites you add after this point. you'd have to do this process all over again if you wanted to make sure that favorite is added to that list. As i haven't tried this yet, im only giving you this as a consideration, not as an absolute fix. Oh and make sure you remove all of your favorites from internet explorer on your pc then do file-import and locate the original exported file you created to get it back to where it was b-4 you started all of this.

I don't know either but another way is to set a favorites panel on your homescreen. When you click on the favorite url, then it would open PIE with that link. Or if you have Operamini set as DEFBROWSER then it could open in there. It would be fairly easy to write a mortscript that would check your windows/favorites folder and automatically add/subtract urls from the panel at a set time of day.
Ok , i did what i mentioned b-4 and it worked beautifully! Although the links look more like links you will see on a web page, they all work!
Bear with me as this explaination may be a little long.
Step 1. Make sure you have favorites checked to be synched using MS Activesync. you should see a mobile favorites folder in your list of favorites in IE if you have this setting checked. Make sure all of the favorites you have on your phone match the favorites listed in your phones favorites in PIE.
Then in IE. go to file->import&export-->export favorites-->select the mobile favorites folder to export. then it select the directory you want to save it to ( i selected the desktop) into "whateverfilename".htm file name. Then take that file you just created and place it anywhere on your phone. ( i put it into the "\storage card\my documents\" folder) Then on your phone, open up PIE and press right soft key-->tools-->home page and select custom, then on the line to type where the file is located type file:\\ and wherever your .htm file is located. ( mine looked like: file://\storage card\my documents\favorites.htm ) Then i selected home page in PIE and all of my favorites showed up on the home page!

I came up with a solution that works for me. Posting so others can see:
1. on my PC - in IE, I exported the "Mobile Favorites" directory to a file called mobile.htm
2. I copied this into my dash \windows folder
3. I went into InternetExplorer->Tools->Options and changed the default home page to \windows\mobile.htm
Reloaded IE and everything works just great.
Thanks !
Would this work if your favorites are organized in folders?
Yes it can
Thanks guys.

Not sure if I understand, but if you need to add the url to the panel so you can open links directly from the panel, then you can set it thru the registry. If you change the actionurl or sk2url to something like this:
:MSPIE;http://xda-developers.com
If thats not what you mean, and you have links that work in your panels already and you want to add to favorites in pocketInternet Explorer. Then just open the link from the panel and then save it as a favorite once it opens the page.
I wasn't sure which way you wanted to go or I could give more detail. Hopefully that helps.
thanks the first answer was was i was talking about, i tried editing the actionurl and the sk2url like you said but that hasn't changed anything, the first six pages still go to the same websites and the last four that dont' have default url's dont' go anywhere lol

Sounds like its not saving in the registry right, exactly how did you go about editing and where? If it was directly in the reg, then make sure you do it in software and security. If thats what you did, then only other thing I can think of is a reboot after editing. You could also edit with CHome Configurator, I've seen it make reg changes that couldn't be done manually for some reason.
I have two programs that I am trying to create a shortcut for. One is GPSToday. The other is Weather Panel. I looked through Windows registry and both program registries using Total Commander. Can't seem to find the .exe that launches either program. The goal is to add both programs to the Quick Launcher tab. Can an executable be created where none exist? Also, can a shortcut be created so that I can launch both programs from the programs menu? Neither program registers in the programs menu.
Sorry, Im still a noob, but ive playin around with making shortcuts & I find that if its Not in windows, the .exe is most likely in \Program Files\ "app name" , or Storage Card\Prog Files\"app name". Placing a link in \Windows\Start Menu\Programs should make it available on the Programs screen(page, launcher, whatever), and also should be on the list of quick launcher apps from the today screen. Not familiar with the ones you mentioned, tho.
Allright, I Knew I saw that somewhere (I check the freeware sites couple times a week). So the version I downloaded suggested installing on the device instead of the storage card. There IS an .exe in there, but clicking it does nothing. Maybe since its a today plugin, there is no launchable exe. ? only at start-up ? There definitely should be another way to run it. Cool app, but screws up all my icons.

Both GPSToday & WeatherPanel are today plugins, not applications. Both must be run from the plugin itself. Sometimes, adding a parameter to the link, which would be a simple text doc name <name>.lnk, can do the trick. But, this is not a simple shortcut you create through a file explorer. Your probably trying to access the map in GPSToday, which I highly doubt is possible. WeatherPanel will only show on your today screen.
I searched far and wide on how to do this and finally found it, thanks to detroit_doug who posted this on ppcgeeks. Just rename any image you would like to set as a background to hh_fw_background.png (must be a png file to work or at least for me). Turn off Touchflo (settings-today-items), copy the .png file into the widows folder on your device and replace the existing one , restart touchflo and all tabs will have the background you chose. If you simply rename the extension from .jpg (or any other image file) will still work. Be wary, it slightly slows down how fast tabs are loaded, I quickly went back to the stock after changing. Good luck.
Do you have M2DC installed?
Under "background picture", choose any picture you want (no renaming, but all my wallpapers are edited to 240x320), and presto.
No slowdowns or anything.

Ok, didn't try it till today, jmitr thank you. For everyone else reading this post jmitr's way is by far better and easier than mine, there is no slowing down. Thanks again sir.
change m2d background
bigough13 u are correct with your method cause m2dc does not change landscape background. u have to replace the "hh_fw_background_landscape.png" image too in windows folder. Also the reason your method slows down how tabs load is because as jmitr said wallpaper has to be 240x320 and about 50kb large. took me a while but mine works flawlessly!! no lag or slow downs
Hi I hope someone here can help me?
I have downloaded some games for my phone and have them saved on the storage card but how do I get them to appear in the list off the programs tab so I can play them? At the moment I can only get them to work through file explorer but its a bit of a faff!
Help please someone!
tap and hold on the game .exe ..select "send to shortcut to programs"it'll appear on ur programs list!
in the file explorer screen? if i tap and hold on a game I get 'cut, copy, rename, delete, send, beam file'?
You can add programs to the list using Diamond TF3D Config!
You need to add shortcuts to the programs from your sd card installation directory to the \windows\start menu folder.
Read here to find out how to make a shortcut:

OK I'm new to HTC and Windows Mobile etc and generally not very techy so bare with me please!
Do I really have to install another program just to move the games to the right place?
I don't know what Diamond TF3D is?
Vijay - thanks for the link but it is all a bit much for me I think - is there no simple way to just copy and paste it to the right place without needing a new explorer etc?
this is what i see when i tap and hold on the game .exe
the option might not be on the pop up menu that comes up after you tap and hold on the .exe .. u've to scroll down the menu.
btw.. what games have you installed on ur storage media!?
if i go to File explorer then Storage card I can see my games (java - not sure if this matters?) Bubble Bash, Date or Ditch, New York Nights, Solitaire and Sudoko - also have a barcode reader app that I can't get in the right place, assume I'm doing the same thing wrong!
If I click and hold on any of the games I get cut, copy, rename, delete, send and beam file. If I press menu (bottom right) whilst highlighting any of them I get Go To (with sub options My Documents, My Device, Folders and Open Path...), Refresh, Show All Files, Sort By, Send, Beam File, New Folder, Rename, Delete and Edit
Also how did you do the screen shot thats really cool and would prob help me to show you what I'm doing wrong!
Hi Finnbob.
You can get screenshots with several different apps, but I'd recommend this one...
http://www.mymobiler.com/
I'd recommend that regardless, as it's just a really useful application!
Incidentally, the screenshot that jtf420 showed us isn't the standard rom. That's not the menu that I get either, as I've only got the standard stock rom on my phone.
Using file explorer, navigate to...
\My Device\Windows\Start Menu
And then create a new folder in there, calling it something relevant like "Java Games". Then just copy and paste the games into that folder (or you can do "paste as shortcut" and leave the actual games where they are).
Hope this helps.
John.
screenshots are made with a prog called PocketScreen 1.3 (thanks RHAPSODY) and it's usually included in may ROM's made by Great CHEF's
regarding the option - "send shortcut to Programs" works only with exe
good guys above have already answered how to make shortcuts for non .exe files .. it might sound complex..but give it a try..
else..u can make a executable file for ur jar (but this kills the idea of java and might be complex process too)
or
use esmertec jbed to launch ur java applications.
ah thank you all! and thank you especially john, I knew there must be a fairly simple way of doing it!
does anyone know if I can change the icons? at the mo all the java games have this 'e' as the icon but this means when I pick them to go on the programs tab I can't tell which is which til I've opened it!
Not an answer to the question really, but if you create a folder in the start menu, then clicking it will open a window that's similar to the programs or settings folder (not really a folder - more an icon view). This will have the full names under the icons, so it won't be a problem.
I don't know how you'd go about changing the icons, I'm afraid. Windows, yeah. Windows mobile, no.
Hi all.
Okay, I come from a PC development background, and the windows fonts folder is pretty straight-forward. You put a font in there and it is "installed" and becomes one of the fonts in any application that lists them.
The folder on Windows Mobile is empty though, and putting things in there has unusual effects!
I recently installed a lockscreen mod that someone made for WVGA devices, and it looked very nice. The problem was that it used a specific font, and doesn't work as well without it. So, the dev linked the font and I downloaded it and put it in the windows\fonts folder, as common sense would dictate. (The font is called lcars.ttf, btw.)
This font then started showing up in other applications though. One of the versions of the facebook app used it, and IE started to use it too. This is why I'm a bit "uhhh?" at the idea of the windows fonts folder on PPC.
I'm guessing that the apps that had problems were not using specifically named fonts, but as to why they defaulted to just "whatever's in that folder" is beyond me!
Can anyone explain that strange behaviour and, better still, suggest a fix for it?
I don't know why the fonts folder acts like this, but this has been the behavior since PPC2000 days. Instead, just copy the font to the \Windows folder. It will still be selectable AND other applications won't default to using it.
