What do you mean it won't turn off? The screen doesn't go dark when you press the power button, or the light keeps flashing after you press the button?
As for the storage card, I believe that is normal, especially with MW2003. If the phone battery is low, the OS will start turning things off, like the SD card slot, to preserve the remaining battery power for the system memory so nothing is lost before one can get the phone attached to the charger.
it goes dark but its like not turning off, it just sleeps.
sorry, its my first time to use a ppc phone.
thanks.

That's normal and by design.
Yes PPC is not supposed to turn off completely.
and your(our) PPC stops giving power(turning off) the Storage Card to save power for itself, and to avoid Storage Card corruption.
This is normal, when our PPC is low on battery juice.

Is there a way to COMPLETELY turn it off? The power button seems to just turn off the screen or it you hold it down, the backlight.
I just got it, had it plugged in and came back to see (since I hadn't changed the power settings for external power) that I had gotten a call at 2:15 PM (it was now 8:30 PM) and the screen / backlight had been on all that time. I have since changed the power settings , but is there a way to turn it off completely, so if I go into a movie etc. etc. Short of Flight Mode, that is.
Best thing to do if you go into a movie is tap the loudspeaker, and click the "off" option, takes less than a second and is easy turned on again.

That's fine for that, but I'm also looking for a way that OFF is OFF. I would think that would be better for battery life.
Only thing to permanently turn it off is take out the battery, but you will lose all the settings and everything after 20 mins or so, then you will have to start from scratch all over again.
If you turn the button lock on, and turn display off the phone doesn't really use that much battery power, there's always the option of carrying the spare that (sometimes) comes with it.
ditto on what he said. due to the memory used by pdas, you can not power them completely down for long periods of time without data loss.
My PDA2k seems to be turning itself off even when in use :?
I use TomTom3 in the car, and even when the power is plugged into the bottom it was turning off ever few minutes.
I just took a phone call and when I has finished talking I noticed the screen had gone blank and pressing the red handset didn't bring it back, the power button did. (I do have screen lock on).
Having said that, thinking about it, I was watching TV progs on WMP on the way home and it never shut itself off once :?:
Anyone have any idea what is going on? Is this normal?
I have an o2 XDA2 S running TomTom 3 with the TomTom cradle. I occassionally find that the pda just turns itself off.
It doesn't happen all the time.
I have also found that sometimes during a call the pda turns itself off and I cant get it back on by pressing the handset key, just the on off button.
Cheers

click start>settings>system>backlight . . in here you can change the time it takes to turn off in not touched the device, 5 mins max.... also if you click button lock in system settings, you can set it so that when it happens, you can tap screen and it comes back on again.... tho i prefer to keep that off, otherwise it may ring people while it its protective case..
and going by all the software that is out for these xda's, you can prob find a programe /or hack to change it even longer if you need that!!!
But when it is on external power (plugged into the car using TT3), it shouldn't shut down at all. Aside that, when in use (when receiving a call) I wouldn't think it should shut down should it?
I have a seperate scren lock installed too. I found the built in one not enough. When it is in my belt pouch and I get a text, or connect to my BT car kit or something, it wakes it up. All of a sudden all the keys are being pressed (by the squeeze of the case) and all kinds of applications are opening!

I jus remove the battery and change the Sim Card.
The backup battery keeps it all in place until i get the main in.
As for the screen, there is no official "Shut down" unlike other PDA's, it just goes into a deep form of Hibernation.
thnx. i was thinking there was like a shutdown like in most celphones. this is my frst xda. thnx man!
i think its same with all BA.
i think someone should find its solution.
Turn all the radios off: like phone, wifi, bluetooth and activesync ect. basically everything in the comm manager.
Then press the off button, yes the LED blinks still but you only lose ~0-1% of the battery with 8 hours in this state.
Its as near as we can get to "off" but it will do
yeah...BA can't be turned off. It can only be put in deep hibernation since it does not have a hard drive.
ooops I did it again..sorry double post
Shutdown possible
A shutdown is possible of the BA in a particular situation :
Unlock the battery in the back of the BA while holding the battery for not to fall
Then lock it again : it remains shutdown.
Please note that this won't work if you have your BA plugged to your PC with USB cable. In that case, you have to keep the battery unlocked without locking it again, since locking it will turn it on.

i've just updated the ROM on my artemis, after CID unlocking etc. It was working fine, although it seemed to occasionally power off whilst copying files to it via AS. Thinking it was the SD card I removed it, and now it won't turn on. Plugging into power for a few mins gives a red light on the top, but I can't power the thing on.
Anyone want to give me some tips on what I can do to rescue it?
Download this HTC P3300 WWE factory rom here http://rapidshare.com/files/19322112/HTC_1.12.405.01_026790_WWE_SHIP.rar . Now first launch Bootloader (multi color screen) and just run the ROMUpdateUtility.exe from the rar, voila your device unbricked .
Bootloader: Press voice dialing & on/off button at the same time till you see a multi color screen (red/green/blue stripes)

Your mobile is actually turned on but backlight is set to lower so your screen does not appear. It 's a known bug changing backlight by itself. It happened to me too with Β&Β4 when I enable Batery Status tray Icons. And happened again on B&B 4.3 twice with no reason and Thanks God not to lower setting.
You have two options (both painfull).
1. Hard reset.
2. Reflash.
Good Luck
i thick it's easyer than reflash or hard reset, just plus the artemis to a usb or to the charger and your screen bright will be at full bright. Once done that, simply adjust the bright when running with battery at control panel.

I'm presuming that it's not actually related to the flash, until proved otherwise though - no-one else has reported any issues and as it was a 2nd hand but new to me handset it seems more likely it already had a fault. Annoying, though.

my friend had a similar problem with his charmer, although h never cooked it.
if you are in london, go to southall, they will fix it for £20
try plugging in to the charger if the little orange light comes on, its a phone fault, if the little light doesnt come on, your phone is not holding charge, either way can be fixed
Orbit cannot be switched on, and cannot be charged

Hi, I'm having a similar problem as you described. When the charger is plugged into my Orbit, the little light does not come on. Moreover, when try to switch my phone on, it turns on and starts booting. But before it could boot further than the O2 splashscreen, it shuts off. Occassionally, I do succeed in turning it on, which it would turn it itself off at random from a few mins to a few hours after turning the phone on. I'm able to access the red, green, blue screen without any problems, and it can be turned on (ie the phone remains in the red, green blue screen) indefinately untill the battery runs out. I've tried re-flashing with the O2 official WM6 (which i was using for a few months already) which didn't make a difference. I'm able to access the phone through activesync just fine, but it wouldn't charge throughj the USB connection as well. I'm currently charging my battery with my friends Orbit.
Would any guru have any clue on what's going on with my phone? Can it be fixed?
Here are some issues with a new VZW TP2 that hopefully some of you can help with:
1. I have my phone set to blank the backlight and go into standby while in either battery and non-battery mode, but there's a glitch. I have always kept the device (previously a TMO MDA) plugged into the computer overnight, but this TP2's blacklight stays on as long as the cable is plugged in, regardless of whether it is charging or not. When I power down the computer the charge light goes out but the backlight stays on dim, so in the morning the battery is nearly exhausted. Is there a way to make the phone turn off the backlight while plugged in, even when there's no power to charge the battery?
2. Is there a registry hack to make the volume buttons increase or decrease volume in lower increments? IOW, now when I hit the "+" button it jumps up maybe three bars when I would like it to go one at a time.
3. When in Opera 9.5 and I click on a link within a website it always gives me several choices, one being to open the page in a new tab. Unfortunately when I do that it always says there are no tabs remaining, and does nothing. There are no options for opening the page in the same page so nothing gets loaded, which is very frustrating. How many tabs are there available and why are there never any remaining for use, even just after launching Opera?
for #1. go to all settings--> system -->power
and click on advance tab...you can set seconds when you want to dim the phone n when to turn off for eitrher when your phone is plugged in or not plugged in...i would suggest you using s2u2 to get more backlight options..hope that helps.
2. Not sure how useful this is, but you can fine-tune the volume by sliding on the bars.
3. You can customize the amount of tabs Opera allows by going into opera:config. If you have push internet enabled, this thread may be helpful.

I did that and it's set at 2 and 5 sec. respectively for "On external power." Keep in mind it isn't really on external power at that point, just plugged in, as there's apparently no power coming in (charge light is off on the phone). If I unplug the USB cable the backlight gets brighter but then turns off in 2 min. under internal power.
Oddly, if I connect the phone to a USB cable that's not connected to the computer it will operate normally. But if it's connected to the computer when it has been powered down by XP (Shutdown), i.e. power is not actually cut like if the PSU is switched off, the display will remain dim all night and in the morning the battery will be nearly exhausted. It is as if there is still some signal coming from the computer telling it to stay on, even though I have the phone set to switch the backlight off and go into standby when under both internal and external power. I would like to not have to unplug it every night, as I don't always remember to do it. It's normal position in the house is plugged-in where it can continually sync with Outlook. My old MDA phone had no problem with this and would go into standby whether plugged into the computer or not.
