Slighttly Frustrated with WM6 - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam ROM Development

I've been using WM6 now since the update was released from HTC and I gotta say it can be really frustrating at times... The phone is dirt slow (it takes 5-10 seconds for it to respond after i hit reply for text messages, 2 or 3 to switch from vertical to horizontal mode) it's very glitchy (sometimes I have to reboot the phone because I can't get phone calls or text messages) I felt WM5 was quite a bit faster and had half the problems wm6 does..
I'm thinking I may use some cooked roms to see if I can get some improvements out of the phone.. I have been nervous about putting them on the phone up until now.. Suggestions/Comments.. Love the phone itself

Are you using an external micro sd card? If yes have you got your apps loaded on it/running from it?

I thought this was originally the case too when I upgraded to WM6- but what I actually did was load many apps on there, at a point I was running with only 2MB program memory!
I then re-flashed with cooked ROMS with extended storage freed and big storage enabled. My device runs fine now. I've got a few apps on external card and they even run fast.

I am running SCHAPS 4.31 Full ROM and I find that my device runs much faster with no crashes. There are one or two minor niggles in WM6 but that is all versions and not really relevant.
Having spent a long time reading on WM6 here and other places I gather that Chefs in general are able to make the ROMS they cook less nigglesome and generally faster than the standard ones.
JMHO but I would look at a cooked ROM and everyone has their own opinion as to whose is best and whose is fastest etc etc.
Look at the features each ROM has, most included apps can be researched individually as can the fixes.
Make your own mind up as to which suits you and try that.
I went with the Schaps ROM as a couple of my friends I work with ( So I had the ability to play with the ROM before flashing it) had it and it seemed to work well and had the things I was looking for.
Hope this helps.

Quick question for those of you using WM6!

Hi all,
As many of you have heard (or experienced), many Hermes units seem to exhibit less than stable behavior with the production WM5 ROM, or even some of the cool ones here.
Browsing the other forum, we are all to familiar with:
1 - Camera taking black pictures
2 - SD Card not recognized
3 - System hangs
4 - Unit gets very hot and drains battery
5 - Using the alarms is out of the question due to reliability
etc.
After two months of testing, I have two choices:
A - Go back to my Wizard 8125.
B - Move on up to WM6, and see if these issues will be resolved.
My question for those of you have taken the WM6 leap is:
"If you have experienced annoying system hangs, battery drains, and so forth, with WM5, have these issues been resolved when you upgraded to WM6?"
I want so badly to stick with the Hermes, and I'd love to learn all about the various WM6's ROMs... But not if this unit will be as unstable as before.
Any quick thoughts would be appreciated.
I'm ready to hit this forum and the wiki, and learn all there is to know about WM6... but NOT if this unit is still going act up.
I eagerly await your quick replies!
To be honest, I think WM6 is more stable overall compared to WM5 on my 8525.
I also have an 8125, and I have WM6 on that as well. The differences in functionality and the nice new interface are well worth it. The key (in my opinion) is to pick a ROM without all the extra 'garbage' added in, and be careful about the 3rd party apps you add. The core OS is very solid.
Generally speaking WM6 is faster with less hangs.
My only gripe with it is that after you have about 300 sms messages, typing gets slow .... like really delayed ... to solve this i turned the Autospeller thingy off, and it seems to be working flawlessly now!
Compatability is great, it actually just WORKS! .... *cough* most of the time *cough* ... no seriously it rarely hangs, and only the really old applications don't seem to run.
Alarms, christ don't get me started ... i personally just add a calender entry, with the alarm function turned on, it always works and reminds me 15 mins earlier than the desired time
My unit only gets hot while in my pocket a lot or while charging ... i have radio rom 1.41 and the battery life is good, but not as good, i advise 1.40 (for my device it worked best)
SD card not being recognised? never had that problem with WM6
Camera taking black pictures? ... well moving it out into the light generally helps, but out of 300 pictures so far none have been black!
i've also noticed that boot times are slightly quicker
and using IE is MUCH faster and smoother
WM6 is more visually pleasing and is smoother with less hangs. I'm using Sleuth's VARIANT of LVSW ... and its good, i'm an anti-black guy, Black just doesnt do it for me, too unreliable (IMHO!) but well done to JJ for it all, i'm not knocking him, just my personal experience
dropped calls or missed calls are a thing of the past with WM6, i suffered SO MANY during WM5 ... also the lack of OEM images is good, byebye orange customisations horay!! (backup your extended rom 1st, it might be useful later on)
i completely agree with the above statement.
WM6 is great. Haven't had any problems with it. but choose your ROM carefully. I use LVSW, and tried Black Dymond. Both were great, i personally had better luck with LVSW. Radio 1.41 seems to be working well for me, I haven't tried 1.40, so i can't speak to the battery life. make the WM6 jump. you won't be sorry.
WM6 works for me
I had some of the problems you described with WM5 that came with my JASJAM. I have since upgraded to WM6 using the Elf version of LSVW. It works very well for me so far. The only thing to watch out for is that after installing the WM6, it somehow changed the device id and my WebCamera Plus app would not activate anymore. I have to call the Ateksoft to issue me another activation code.

There's always going to be these small problems with an upgrade, but i think it's still agreed that WM5 < WM6
Hey hey!
These first five posts are VERY encouraging!
I am starting to get excited about it now...!
I'll wait to see who else can offer their opinions.
Thanks guys for the great news!

No one elses opinion matters.
My only regret with WM6 is not taking the plunge sooner. See my signature for my configuration.
I am using black dymond 3.5 for past two weeks now and so far it's just rock solid and fast. No hang ups. Quick response to buttons / commands. No drop calls. Smooth operations. Nice visual interface. No complaints what so ever.
My prior cingular rom was stable but too slow and clumsy.
Anybody who is confident in performing upgrade should do it especially as now the risk of bricking the device is very low with Hard SPL 2.10 Olipro.
My 2 cents

Hi all,
A - Go back to my Wizard 8125.
Well, I must say that my experience has been awsome with many of the roms on my 8525 especially JJ's stuff, yes I am a devoted black follower . My experience with the wizard or 8125 was horrible, never modified it at all so i don't know how it does otherwise but I thought it was a piece of ****e.
In conclusion my advice is go wm6 and you will have a new addiction. It is faster, more memory and of course the many other perks like when you get to show your friends that your already runnin wm6 and their stuck with 5
Just follow the steps hard spl, radio then rom and you should be just fine.
I almost forgot, the only times I have experience problems/ instabilities was when I installed things to storage card rather than main memory.

I have SoftBank X01HT... I've just upgraded my ppc to Black diamond 3.5 and it works perfect... But I still had the same problem with capturing image in the dark place and it comes up with black picture.. the flash doesn't help at all.. it seems like it's not functional... I hope someone could help me with this... Any Advice? Please feel free to tell me.. I'm waiting.. thanks in advance....
Okay, guys!
I am sold!
I will do my readings; check out the various ROMs, and away I go!
And of course, Hard SPL is a must!
And I agree with the post a few posts back... I am all for a less bloated ROM.
I use my PPC for very specific tasks (Adobe Reader, Outlook, GPS, phone, voice command)... and the less junk/crap/freeware/shareware/malware/utils/bloatware/games I have installed, the better.
I will do some investigating, and I shall take the plunge!!!
Thanks!!!

Hi, I have similar problems. I am trying to find out what's going on and the symptoms are like you say: battery drains too fast. Let's say it the battery gets hot, there's something wrong. If you measure the current usage with ACBPowerMeter you will see a high load, like 300-400ma, even with all stuff off, radio off, wifi off, incoming beams off, bt off etc, nada. Now, if you pull out the battery, leave the device the some hours, then start again, power it up, activate GSM and everything, you should be luck and see a current of maybe as low as 30-60ma, even with full brightness on the display. And one time it was okay the whole day, but then all of a sudden, maybe after I hooked up with Activesync or got an SMS, it's gone bananas again.. sigh.. There's gotta be something strange that's completely wrong. I've tried many radios no difference, I've tried bandswitch to limit to GSM only as I live in a area with maybe not super quality 3G signal, did not sort out the problem yet. I had WM6 from LVSW 19-05-2007 with all kinds of radios, then moved on to Pro Black, same problem, but will no try black dymond as someone else mentioned problem was gone with that ROM.
Please all, anyone else with these problems? Any good ideas what this can be? If the device is off for a long time, and I mean off as in battery pulld out, what difference does that make to having the battery off a short while, let's say some minutes? Is there some memory-stuff here? My device is just a week old, never wanted to use a native language WM5 that was in it, hoping this problem will be fixed..
thanks
Update:
I happened to purchase a faulty device!!! There was indeed a HW error on my brand new device so I got it swapped with another one that works. Not all problems are SW-bugs..
I use WM6 on both my 8525's without significant probs; battery drain seems less with radio v.1.38 than 1.40 or greater although use Band Switch to keep phone on GSM when not cruising the net; initial boot up is faster; I've not had overheating probs, no micro SD card issues . Wish I'd gone to WM6 much sooner, but I think having the Cingular 8525 makes a big difference as well.
My battery gets hot and discharges too quick even with radio off. I've tried all radios, am at 1.34 now, will try the 1.43 later tonight if I am able to fully charge battery quick enough... The thing is, if I remove battery for some hours and start over, it's okay, 40ma, radio on etc. Then, at some random point in time, the phone can just lay on the table untouched, it starts consuming battery as crazy, 300-400ma, measured by ACB Power Meter. It's dricing me nuts... I've tried to kill processes, to watch what's going on... I don't have a clue yet, except from there's something "running wild"..

Hi all!
Okay, I am taking the plunge!
I think I'll stick with Radio 1.40, which I have instealled. Hard SPL is also installed...
...so, the only decision is to figure out which ROM!
I have rounded the choice down to two, based on what I've read.
I'm either gonna go with LSVW or Elf's version of LSVW.
Both are downloaded and sitting on my hard drive, ready to roll.
I just hope I can still use PocketMirror; iGuidance; and spb Pocket Plus.
We shall see!!!!
Any final suggestions are welcome!!!
Thanks!
What have you got to lose?
Just follow MrVanx's guide and enjoy it.
Unwired,
You actually bring up an EXCELLENT question!
"What have I got to lose?"
The simple answer: Time!
As much as I enjoy my hobby that involves tweaking PC's, PocketPCs, laptops, gadgets, and so forth...
...I am an attorney and I do run a business.
This means my time is very important and quite valuable to me.
For every hour I spend tweaking; resintalling apps; customizing e-mail settings; testing the phone; resyncing my business contacts with PocketMirror; researching the proper registry hacks....
...that is an hour I lose making MONEY!
So... As much as I would lllllllove to play with and test single new ROM and its variant, and as much I enjoy spending my day enjoying playing with the latest and greatest operating systems...
It kills me when I can't service clients, and when I can't run my business, because I am busy YET AGAIN(!) resintalling my PocketPC.
That's why I love getting opinions before I move ahead...!
So there ya go... I have no time to lose!

Really the difference is not only the ROM you use, but what you do with the ROM...this causes ppl talking about one ROM so quick and other ROM so slow, if you take a search, someone (don't remember) make a speed test after HR every ROM, and the results shows the ROMs aren't so different.
Of course if you havn't time for this, this isn't your forum

A Myriad of Problems

I suppose I should state I'm running NRG Rose Rom v1.7, and my Dash is about a year and a half old.
Mainly and most annoying, is a terrible memory leak. It seems that after an hour of being on, my phone will drop down to about .60 MB of RAM and ultimately freeze. I'm habitual about closing programs and using the free memory function in Celetask. After awhile, even that wont bring back any memory at all, sometimes it takes memory away and makes the phone freeze.
Now, I'm noticing that my phone is just randomly shutting off. (When ever it feels is most inconvenient to me, it seems.) Now, I don't know if this is due to a failing battery, or my poor elderly Dash's long life, but some insight would be wonderful.
Even after clearing the storage the phone was laggy. I'm thinking that my Dash's days are numbered now, but I really hope not. I love this phone, and I don't have any money to get a new phone right now.
My Phone is freezing alot as well. It seems like every other time I go to wake the phone up from its lock mode it freezes up. I'm using Kavana's 6.1 rom. I as well use Celetask to quit running processes but even when nothing is open and running the phone freezes.
try the newest kavana rom based on chinese rom...it manage alot better memory...
Yeah, this is getting annoying. My phone has froze twice since I posted this thread.
Same problem for me with the Rose ROM. Kavana's 0123 ROM is a lot stabler. Give it a try.
thats why i dont use the rose program no more it made my phone heat up and crap

Try downloading and installing original ROM and see if problem persists. If not, It´s probably the rom itself.
Alternatively, you can try OXIOS MEMORY (Official site is down as i´m writing this) to see if things get right.
I´ve tried all flavors of rom, and the best one for me (when you talk about resources and funcionality) is Ricky´s version of Kavana´s.
NRG´s rom is awesome, full of funcionalities, but it didn´t work for me.
Regards.
Thanks to everyone for their suggestions, I'll try what I can tonight if I end up back at home.
i had that problem when i change the page pool to 4 mb but i reflash and the problem stopped. maybe it can help you
i feel your pain with the memory leaks... im pretty on top of things when it comes to watching what programs i have open. but with NRGs ROse ROM, i have had to reset very often to avoid loss of data. I use my phone often to take notes and update spreadsheets while out and about working. Having the phone lockup and have to remove the battery only to lose the latest data ive either input, or loose a few conversations on sms, it is wearing on me.
i am going to install Rickys version on Kavanas ROM, lateset release, to try that one again. I dont remember having the same leaks in memory as NRGs. Wasn't the Rose version supposed to be "lite?" While i did enjoy alot of the apps that came "stock" with NRGs version, the memory leak is a drain on me as well as my phone!
Does anyone know the proper way to close a program? I'm tired of having to go into the task manager to close them.
That is the proper way

Texting is an ordeal any help?

On the newest modaco .. i find the htc_ime is really laggy when texting it makes it so difficult to text sometimes ! Does anyone know any fixes for this ? Even when ive used taskiller to kill all the other tasks it is still so slow. Please don't advise better keyboard i didn't find it helpful.
wipe & reflash
I tried that .. nothing .. epic fail... do you get decent texting speed?
i had this prob with many of the 2.1 roms, a pause between typing would be seen as a long press. making texting a real ordeal
i went back to modaco 3.1
all is good now
Yes, many 2.1 ROMs have this lag, but none of the MoDaCo ROMs .. they work perfectly!
I know it sounds stupid, but are you sure you'r using MoDaCo 3.1? I have never had any lag on the ROM at all. Even the keypad/keyboard. Where as that was laggy on stock 1.5 Sense and all of the 2.1 roms. But since i flashed MoDaCo all is good.
I am possitive i am using 3.1 ... i have always had this problem its been so laggy texting like ... if i write three words it will only be half way through the first word when im finished and il be waiting and generally when you rush it gets confused and starts changing your words to weird longer ones.
thanks for the thoughts thought but keep them coming! Come on
Im using modaco 3.1 and the only time mine ever gets laggy which is very rare is when my wifi is on. Otherwise texting runs like a dream or hero excuse the pun. I have read by turning the "vibrate when typing" off in the settings helps supposedly to speed it up a little. Otherwise i recommend like others before me, to do a full wipe and reflash also backup any important files you need to keep i.e nandroid etc that u have on the sd card and format it. Also wipe ext 2 or ext 3 if you are using it. As I had to after installing 3.1 as i found it a bit laggy in areas. Good luck.
completely removed ext partition remade it installed rom and still same lag... havent even put old stuff back on simcard..
Try this, install and use Advanced Task Killer there's a free version in android Market. Maybe you have an app that is hogging all your cpu just kill that app and try your texting. Although you shouldn't have since u wiped. Unless u installed any apps after that. If no joy hopefully one of the experienced devs could help you. Hope you get it sorted.
Tried taskiller aswell as that one damn..
You're not alone! I too suffer from obscene lag when texting at times (running MCR 3.1). I can type 6 or 7 words before the first is displayed and then watch them slowly appear. I also suffer from typing a word and it'll either be in all caps or the first few letters will be caps and the rest lower case. Oh and it can take forever and a day to actually open a message or flick between them with the widget.
I have two solutions when this happens to me, first off is reboot the phone, that quite often solves the issue, at least for a while. The second solution is to delete some messages. It seems the more messages you have, the slower the messaging app reacts. I deleted just over 1400 messages this morning and seem to have gone back up to full speed.
One other thing to note, if you are receiving / have just received or are sending / just sent a message, the app will be quite slow, or at least it is for me.
Florida.
tried deleting all the messages etc i think its the HTC_IME itself and not the messages... anyone know anything about that?
i encountered typing to be a little laggy, found that the phone is low on resources. something is running at background causing the usage to be 99% but i can't find any apps doing that (btw, im using smart monitor). typing also lag in ak notepad
when i go online, everything seems back normal. it seems that the phone is running some update or trying to... after going online, the lag is gone
the lag will happen again after every phone reboot
Any developers know anything ?

No SMS Notification

Hi,
I have my Touch Pro2 only a couple of weeks now, but I get pretty annoyed by the fact that it only notifies me randomly for a new SMS. Most of the time the green light will go flashing, but the three consecutive vibrations won't come out of themselves, or will be done spread out over a minute or so. They do kind of get jump started when I press on the standby button on top of the phone, but that's kinda the wrong way around isn't it?
I have a 'normal' TP2 (T7373) and only the original ROM-stuff, updated with the official HTC-manila update. I bought it at a smartphone shop and chose T-Mobile as my provider, it isn't the T-Mobile version of the phone.
I have looked around here for some answers, but couldn't find them. The whole HTC SMS app also runs slow, but I think that's the extra weight of 2.5 (even while running addictRAMcleaner).
Is there some kind of fix for this or a way to give this task a higher priority?
Thanks in advance,
Tiemen
I have had this notification lag. I never found a way to solve this. I suggest you learn how to flash your TP2. Also the sms client from the official 2.5 version really sucks. Most of the custom roms have ripped this out and have put a decent sms client in their roms. If you learn how to flash you won't regret it and you never want a stock rom again.
flash a recent rom that many people are using!
like Tuberculosis your problem was so yesterday.

[Q] GSM TouchPro2 gone wild, keeps hard resetting itself

Hi everyone, just got a used TouchPro2 (GSM), after my Xperia X1 got runned over by a car.
I searched the forum, however I was unable to find a cure. The problem is that it works normally for a while, than suddenly it decides to go nuts - First it starts by refusing to launch any application (you can go into the menu or sense). After a reboot, it doesn't start several times (keeps stuck on the Touch Pro2 screen for a couple of times, than several times on the orange windows logo screen). Aftr a multiple tries (removing the battery to reboot), it finally loads into the OS, but it has hard reseted by itself - no settings, no contacts, nothing.
It did it with the rom that it came, so i naturally thought that it was from there. Switched to kalimeho lite rom from here, but to no avail - same **** happens again.
Anyone has any ideas? Or maybe recommend a stable tested rom (i'm not into eye candy).
10x in advance
I have an ATT Tilt2...I can assure you the tp2 is a very nice device, and capable of a lot of things....so congrats on getting a quality replacement phone....
My advice would be to task 29 and install the stock rom just to dial it in back to what it should be, to see if everything works correctly.....PS...my experience with the stock roms are to turn off TF3D/Sense...since the phone hasnt been tweaked that UI is a bit slower than I'd like...the Chefs here cook it up to run nicely but stock is just too slow for my likeing...you can turn it off by going to start>settings.today>items...then click windows default..
See if the phone runs correctly then....
After that....if you want a kick ass stable stock rom, there's WCX's Illuminati ROMS (choose your flavor of messenger type and such)...he puts a lot of time and focus into us TP2 users who want stable, fast stock set ups and they're tried and proven with testing before releasing....Energy Roms are good if you want eye candy that works as well...those are two Chefs whose Roms are the only ones I use and are familiar with and I've never had issues with bugs on eithers Roms....I'd install their stuff anytime without question
I forgot to include....if you don't have the original ROM for that phone you can look for it here
http://shipped-roms.com/?p=82
If you're familiar with flashing then you probably know more about everything than I do...but if you're not familiar with flashing I recommend you read up the tutorials regarding it...specifically...
HardSPL
TASK29
and then whatever Rom you install
The original ROM shouldnt require HARDSPL
TASK 29 did the magic, thank you very much!!!
