I have a cingular 8125 and a 4g High capacity SanDisk but my phone will not detect the disk when its inserted at all. I was told that I need an OS that can run it and WM5 does not and WM6 does. They also told me to try posted here to see if there is an update or hack that will allow WM5 to read the SDHC card.

There has been posted several fixes. Mainly for the Axim x5xx. I gues you should do a search in those threads.

ok, I've the solution, strange, but thrue.
I buyed yesterday a beautyfull, new minisd "4Gb", mounted it, and I discovered that if I run mtty with the 4Gb minisd into device, all blocks are bad
the rom wasn't updated into device if I flash one...
without minisd mtty give me all blocks ok, and flashing other rom, it will be uploaded into device...
ok, this is my cas, good also if someone have same problem, but my question now is, why with last 2Gb minisd this problem didn't present???
I flashed hundreds of rom with minisd iside and all ok...
my my new good, beautifull minisd 4Gb I spent a lot of time today to understand why all block were bad, this is the answer...
bye!
but the question still rests... why whit 2Gb sd all is ok, and with the 4Gb one not?!?!?!?
could this be part of the problem with ppl not being able to flash new radios to their device?
*sorry double post*
4Gb SD card MUST be a SDHC card, and these run on FAT32.... i think that might cause all problems...

It didn't surprise me. To read files from the SD card, you need a hardware "driver" to communicate to the hardware and to understand the layout of the card, both physically - the SD/SDHC format; and logically, the file system on the card.
Remember, there is a distinction between the OS and the firmware - what an OS can do DOESN'T necessary mean that what a firmware can do, vice versa. Think it as the BIOS of your computer against your installed OS.
In this case, your WM6 can read SDHC because there's a SDHC driver in the OS. When you are doing an flash, all the vital functions that are needed are provided by SPL. If the SPL don't have the necessary "driver" - to read the SDHC, it will naturally bails out of the operations.
It's by design and is more or less expected. Period. Unless HTC is going to "update" their SPL to support SDHC as well, but who knows.

ok, good answer!!
I know now...
I suffered the problem of bad blocks you mention with a defective 4GB mini SD (TopRam) and reported it in Pof's thread (unlock) two months ago. I was about throwing one SPV M700 out of the window. Hopefully, I removed the card at the last minute. The result was the same as you describe: no way to flash a new ROM. Partial flash seemed to work but then I realized the previous version was still there. Wen trying to flash the OS section in the rom, the Trini faded off.
I have had recently had another problem trying to update Radio Rom with no success (no mini SD and no SIM this time). I had Olipro's Spl v1.3. I installed Olipr's Spl v1.2 back (with SSPL) and could upgrade the Radio Rom.

I can confirm this.
My touchpad did not response correct so i decide to go back to the offical HTC ROM. The flashprocess finished at 100% with no error. After a reboot i can see that he radio was not updated.
After i go back to Hard-Spl 1.20 the radio rom i can flash the radio and the trinity accept it.
When I started the quest to add SD & CF memory to the WM2003SE X50V I thought I was going to max out at 4GB SD & 8GB CF. Since then I've learned a BUNCH but I have some fundimental questions:
- Using WM2003SE with SDHC drivers, what is the usable SDHC memory?
- What is the limit assuming the drivers can handle?
- If I upgrade to WM6 using Maglite's solution,
- Is it correct that WM6 can directly address more SDHC space?
- How much?
- What is the CF limit using WM2003SE or WM6?
- To get larger capacity SD & CF, is it worth the risk/hassle of upgrading from a functioning WM2003SE to WM6 via Maglite method or using another method?
- Are there other solutions to getting more SD or CF memory capacity?
Regognizing that the questions are the quick and easy part, its the answers that are hard ... thanks in advance for your help.
NK
ok wm2003se does not support sdhc cards and the limit of cf cards would be the highest cap. card that you can buy i think and thats for any rom ver.
if you update to wm6 then you will be able to use sdhc cards 4gb and up but if you stay on wm2003se or update to wm5 then you have a limit of 2gb
Does this mean that 2Gb is the maximum capacity for wm2003se for normal SD cards? ie not SDHC?
I have a 4gb card which is detected by the x50v after a reset but once removed and reinserted will not be read until another hard reset.
Is the capacity issue the cause of this problem?
Thanks
Just for informational purposes I have WM6 A03 (Lennys version) loaded onto both of my X51Vs. Installed on my daily unit I have a Adata 16GB CF card and a Adata 16GB SDHC card with access to all of the memory on both cards. But again I have two X51Vs not X50vs
SD has 4GB max capacity. WM2003SE doesn't have SDHC drivers (I couldn't find). WM5.0 for Axim doesn't have original drivers for SDHC, but you can load non-original driver from aximsite, but it supports SDHC up to 4GB. So if you insert SDHC 8GB than you will see this card as 4GB. WM6.0 for example MagLite edition has SDHC drivers and supports all SDHC cards. Enjoy with WM6.0!
If your using 4gb cards on x50v with wm6.1, sure it works, but its 'laggy'.
I went from wm2003 to wm6.1, and it just lost all its snappiness. Had an extremely hard time downgrading back to wm2003. It was excrcuiatingly slow the first time, then had to do it all over again. Encountered the white screen of death(wsod) many a times along the way, and thought I bricked it for good.
Will just have to settle for the 2gb cards on the x50v running wm2003. Its good enough.
WSOD RECOVERY:
Sometimes you need to do a diagnostic reset/recovery, if the unit stops responding.
"Hold the record/power buttons and then push reset(not the wireless)."
It will run through a diagnostic, and clear the ram or something. After that you can flash the downgrade again.
Ah yes, Get the original files from Dell, some of the files out there seem to be corrupt, you need to rename the 'K' files to WM50. Follow on from the tutoials of how to downgrade.
I got a new 8gb sdhc for my Tmobile Dash without checking to see if it would work...my mistake...coz' it doesn't even detect the card...I read on the forums how upgrading to the HTC ROM MIGHT enable my phone to read the card but so far I haven't seen anything definite...can anybody point me to the right direction to start looking? Thanks in advance...
Sure thing.
Here...
flash your phone with the latest rom "RUU_Excalibur_HTC_WWE_Brightpoint_US_1.33.422 .1
I have 2 t-mobile dash for my company. I flashed them both with the latest rom: RUU_Excalibur_HTC_WWE_Brightpoint_US_1.33.422.1_4.1.13.51_03.07.90_Ship. I also have the 8-gig Sandisk and it works flawlessly...

thanks...just needed to know if it works...much appreciated...
4 gig A-data works
put in a 4gig sdhc class 6 - works. though sometimes seems to have problems locating files - ie songs. could be just with the phone though.
You might want to install this cab:

I have an O2 XDA orbit and used to have a 2GB SD card i it which worked fine but I have lost it. I am not looking to buy a new one and the prices have dropped so was thinking about getting a 4 or 8GB card but was wondering if my phone would be able to handle it.
Does anyone know if there is a maximum SD card size we can use in our O2 orbits?
Thanks for your time,
memory
hi,
it supports 4 gb as i have used the same with a 4 gb
a friend of mine uses 8gb, there is a "patch" for it somewhere; dont know the link atm
Obviously the one named wm6 is for wm6, the other is for wm5 (although I think they both work for wm5)
Maximum Storage Card Capacity in O2 Orbit
Hi,
inside my Orbit, a 8GB SHDC card is working. I use the Artemis Touch 4.02 WM6.1 ROM --> the SDHC support is already implemented in this ROM --> no patch needed .
Kind regards,
hqqh
Thanks everyone. I ahve the touch 4.01 so does that have the patch ?

Yes it does.
I just put a new Sandisk 8gb micro sd in my Orbit (using Artemis Touch 4.02 WM6.1 ROM) Works fine, shows as 8gb in Total Commander, but on my today screen (if I'm reading it right) it's indicating it's only 3686mb?
Have you formatted your micro sd card yet? If you decide to make sure you format it with fat32 selected.

No. I tried format from my pc card reader but it won't detect it. I didn't try to format in the Orbit (couldn't find the option) I found another screen (storage memory or some such) where it showed as 8gb, just not the today screen.
the micro sd 4g card doesnt work on xda orbit arte 200 wm 5 regardless if its formated to FAT or FAT 32, however 2g works fine. I suppose this is the reason that on websites its written " expandable memory slot" and the value aint mentioned. If theres any way to 'patch ' it to make 4g work on wm5, i'd be curious 2 know.
btw, has any one managed to use the internet via wi fi on xda orbit arte 200 WM5. what has to b done??? mine connects to the wifi, but is unable to browse the internet for an unknown reason.
have you downloaded the sdhc.cab update here on xda???
Will allow upto 8gig(what I use in my partners orbit) may even allow larger but never tried...just do a search...
It works on ALL PPCc and wm based devices...
I use it in my i-mate pda-n (8gig card) and Orbit (standard rom which is partners) but also try a newer rom with 6.5 as is included...
I use sandisk SDHC 8GB more than 2 years and it work perfect , i have wm6.5.
cheers
32 GB MicroSDCard working without problems for a long time. Prerequisite is the sdhc.cab patch for original roms, in current roms it is mostly included.
Regards!
Steve
Can any1 having like for wm 6.5 for o2 xda orbit
???

I have the same problem. I bought myself an 8gb SDHC card, not knowing that my device wouldnt recognize it.
Has anyone, yet, found a way to run sdhc on the HTC Wizard? I saw a lot of comments that this isnt a hardware problem, but software, and still none of them saying an exact way to do it, or if its impossible. ...
I`m using the MSD WM6.5 Rom
;
someone said that one of the ways to enable sdhc on ur device is to install a rom that supports it - is there one for the wiza?

i've found the problem.
It is "hardware" thing, probably sdhc are bigger by ~ 0,5 mm and you must try couple of times to put card the right way.
By the way, you also need Artemis sdhc driver (cab file).
