T-mobile dash User try this for more memory. - HTC Excalibur

ok, i have read through the forums for a while and have not seen this posted anywhere.
I had the t-mobile dash rom on my phone for about 2 months and really wanted more memory.
the stock rom had about 9,000kb of memory when the phone would operate.
after i did what im going to explain it had about 18,000kb of memory.
this goes for anyone that may not want to install the HTC rom on their phone.
go to windows\startup\
create a folder named backup.
now move files: help, voice command, hotspot into the backup folder (i cant remember the exact names but you will see them)
that should do it.
i like the HTC ROM so far it is working fine for me.
i do have to test it more than 2 days though to actually make judgement.
another great thing about it is that so far i have reboot close to ten times to test the reboot cycle caused by the memory card and there is no reboot, atleast so far.

Just remove the file extension under startup for my5msgcenter to stop my faves from loading and disable voice command through the voice command application. I also deleted the homescreen registry setting for myfaves (to use my own homescreen). On boot I have 22,000kb+ free. DO NOT DELETE THE WIFIINIT FILE EXTENSION OR WIFI WILL NOT WORK. Afterwards startup should have only two files wifiinit.lnk and my5msgcenter. (no file extension). To re-enable my faves just add the .lnk extension back.

works great for me...

Great tip!
Very very usefull for who have T-mobile or T-mobile ROM.

This doesn't seem to work on WinMo 6 (I'm assuming you have 5). Suggestions?

I am with T-Mobile WM6 ROM, and this tip works just fine for me.
T-mobile ROMs are slowest, but this tip give speed.
You also can use http://www.oxios.com/memory/
This tool optimize memory and make windows faster.
Like every other win restarting time to time is not a bad idea .

im using wm6.
i belive i forgot to mention to use active sync to create the folders and move the files.
total commander may be able to do it through the phone.

Unfortunately, whether I move the files on the phone or using AS, it doesn't free up any memory for me. I'm very short on memory because I'm using Good Messaging to synch my work email (works like RIM). Can't NOT use Good, and it's a memory hog AND must run from onboard memory instead of SD card, so I never have any mem.
Oh well.

The subject here is the RAM memory - more RAM is more speed for your HTC .

Oxios works fine!
Lotie, try Oxio... worked fine with my S621
BR

I use the Hibernate option in the free SmartToolkit, great.

When I sync my dash up to my computer, I can not find the Windows folder. Can anyone help me get to this please?

Empty ExtROM Storage, any good use for it?

Hi all,
I am currently using Jwright's WM6 ROM (so far so good, thanks J) and applied the ExtROM unlocker patch. I have 10MB free on this partition but not sure what to do with it.
I used to have Magician before and after emptying the ExtROM, I could use it for Program Files folder. But I dont think it's useful to do that for device with WM2005 or above.
So anyone has any idea to make use of it? Thanks.
you could put porn in there i suppose.....
I unlocked the extrom on my uni, helmi_c 1.1 rom.
However, when I delete the contents, it always re-appears. Any files copied in there, disapear.
Help.

I too am curious about this - is there a means of adjusting the Disk On Chip to utilise the space more effectively (as can be done on the Himalaya)?
@drsqueggy - that's what the 4Gb SD card is for
@Pyrofer - it sounds like it is un-hidden but still locked, ensure it is actually unlocked (and then search forum or start another thread if problems continue)
-sf
I gotta go with porn too.
You could put a few cabs in there of programs that you like such that if you have to 'system restore' the device, the programs auto-install for you.
It's a miniature time-saver, I guess, but I don't know if such programs could be uninstalled or upgraded when you were done.
Maybe keep one song you really, /really/ like in there?
Or porn.
how bout fonts???
and why not install progs which have today plugins/ load at start up....
a media player/photo viewer....so you can swap sd cards and still play media files..
with 10 mb porn on it, I have to be quick.
Man, 10k would be more than enough time for me... I'm over the hill
my suggestion is to make best use of the space available by storing your cab files. In case one needs to reload any application behaving strange it would help besides your storage card for other things.

I use this space for Internet Explorer Cache file. This can be easily done by changing the location of cache file in the registry.

Creating a ROM image

Hi all
From some research i've been doing i think i need to create a ROM image but i'll tell you my problem and let you recomend me a solution.
Basically i need to setup 30 PDA's (XDA Argon's running WM5.0) These PDA's will be running a program called service director and also have TOMTOM installed. What i need to be able to do is be able to create an "image" that i can just copy to each PDA to speed up deployment. It would also be useful should there be any problems in the field with the PDA's that they could just be hard reset back to their modified state after deployment. E.g with Service Director and TomTom installed. I have found out that if i create a folder on a memory card with a directory name of 2577 and put my .cabs in there that they will automatically be installed on insertion of the card. This could also be beneficial to me, but i don't think that it would be robust enough, especially if they drop the device and put their memory card back in after its popped out.
So what do you think my best options would be?
Thanks for any help in advance and if you need any info, just let me know.
Thanks
Andy

do the 2577 option but create an autorun program that installs the cab files and then deletes the 2577 folder, thus it wont re-install when the cab is re-inserted
That's ok, but then the engineer would then have to send the card back to us so that we could set it up again. E.g the card would only allow them to set the software back up once and then they would have to send the PDA back to us for us to reconfigure it should it go wrong again. We can't really afford to do this as they need the PDA to find their next job/update jobs etc and can't really afford to have it sent back to us everytime it goes wrong.
well there is currently no way flashing custom ROM's to the xda argon (HTC Panda?) and wont be until one or more devs get thier hands on one so burining it into the rom isnt an option. the only thing I can think of is to have it ask if you want to install the software when it is inserted rather than doing it automatically.
I didnt think it wouldve been available yet. Oh well, looks like i'll have to make it do it via the memory card for the moment. Like all brilliant companies mine just told me, here's what we want, now go and make it happen! Haha!
I take it the card will need to have some kind of .inf file on it to ask you whether you want to install it or not. I would try it, but my company havent even given me the PDA to play with yet.
All i have is an SPV M500(My own old phone) and knowing my luck, they won't work the same with the software we're using.
In that case, why dont you have the autorun RENAME the folder instead of delete it. Your users should then be able to rename it back in case of need (they should be able to do that!), and do the insert sd card thing.

Why not on original installation have it delete the file from the folder and also have in the same folder a IE web shortcut to the original file on a Company server that would allow them to download the file again into the same folder, assuming they would have an internet connection and the file is not too large to download and you can direct the download to that particular folder?
They could then take out the card and re-insert it to automatically install the program again.
Maybe a poopoo idea, but I guess worth a thought?
Good luck
C
the autorun folder is the same for all devices with wm5/6 so thats fine and you would haev to write a progra to do it, not an inf.
if you cant do it yourself im sure someone else on the forum wouldnt mind for a modest donation (myself included)

out of memory using internet

I have dash s620 with 2gb mini sd card and v23 from ricky, the other day i was using internet explorer and went to website, all ok but in short time the phone tell me that cant open site because dont have memory for that, when i tried use free memory program the phone had only 1 mb and only release a little, there are some way for fix that or to use memory card for tmp internet file??
thanks
Um... I can check it out and see what I can do about it and I will get back to you asap.
There is a cab called Mailstorage that will save internet temp, history, and cookies and save emails to storage card. I found it on txcaesar.net in the downloads section.
Oh yah that would work...
Thanks for yours helps, i will check

Na what is this application anyways, give it a try and see if it works. Did you have some specific questions on it or what?
I downloaded the app, but it errors during the install. I was just wondering if anyone else had this app working before I spend time trying to resolve the issue.

What errors are you getting when installing it.
I just tried it again, and it said it installed successfully, but was made for a previous version of windows.
Now I'm not sure what it did with the install. can't find the installed app, or a way to configure it.
Ummm would it be under java program. Or just browse under accessories possibly.
I don't see the app anywhere, but after rebooting, I notice my IE setting are pointing cookies, etc... to the storage card. Something's working. Not sure how to check for e-mails going to the storage card?
There is a Pocket IE folder on my storage card with the above referenced folders

I cant take it because need register in these site.
It's says made for previous version when you install, but works good on my 6.1 blackjack. It moves pie to storage and downloaded email/attachments to storage. It's not necessary to run a mailstorage program because the cab takes care of the changes.
no need for all that in 6.1. go into Settings/IE Settings/Temporary File Path and change the IE Cache Path

Here's a Challenge for Pocket PC Wizards!

I'm running WM6.1. HTC Sprint Vogue. 3.02rom.
My phone's Settings and Programs links DO work but it does NOT have the files htcPrograms.exe and htcSettings.exe anywhere on the phone. (Other users have experienced this.) In order to use a custom cube and make icons linked to those two files work, I downloaded them to the windows directory. This workaround works like a charm for Settings but htcPrograms will only run once. Even if I click on that program from the File Explorer, nothing happens. If I reboot, it will work again but one time only. Any ideas?

[Question] how to make a cab file out of a desktop installer?

I have tried to find some things on how to, tutorials and so on but i cant find anything that has given me success, some of my must have apps are installed from the computer, and id want to see if i can just make them into a cab instead and just have them on the memory card for comfort and when flashing on the go from sd it is annoying not being able to have the "must have" app.
any help would be deeply appreciated and i would be most grateful.
if this is done in ten sec to a minute i added one of the desktop installers if some one would be so very kind to help me
http://www.e-sword.net/pocketpc/files/ppc2005setup301.exe
Thank you very much.
ps: another noob question, the program named ppc2005setup301 it runs in vga, and since most rom are qvga if i understand it right the program buttons are shrinked? it is usable but you got to be exakt with the stylys to hit them, kinda hard on the bus or subway if anyone could help me with that one id kiss ya!
Peace and a lot of love to you all!
Can you not just extract the cab using win rar?
Easiest way is to run the installer with your phone disconnected. Then go into the microsoft active sync folder in program files and you should be able to find the cab in a folder in there. I've done this several times to set up a back up folder on my sd card (just in case)
