i'm using schaps 4.31 on my hermes. i have managed to get a constant data connection but i can't force my activesync to stay connected to exchange at all times using the data connection. Instead i have to se A$ to sync every 5 minutes (even when i select "as items arrive" on schedule A$ won't maintain constant connection). is there a reg hack/3rd party program that will make activesync stay "connected" at all times using my data connection?

Hello Everyone,
I have my XDA 2S configured to Sync Mail/Contacts/Calendar with our Exchange server over the Internet connection. Whether I am wireless at home, or use GPRS when Im out and about, its really rather effective.
However, generally speaking, I want to only have the Sync happen when I press send / receive from within the Inbox app, or when I select Sync from within Activesync. I would then expect that I can disconnect the GPRS and forget about it.
What actually seems to happen is that Activesync stays active, and the sync happens every 5 mins or so after that. Even if I close activesync down (yes its really closed, using PocketNav) it seems to re appear and resync again. I have to do a soft reset to stop it happening.
Any Ideas?
Hit Start and go to Active Sync. Make sure you are NOT connected to ActiveSync.
Hit Tools and go to Options.
Uncheck the two check boxes indicating syncing with the device. After this hit Options.
Please make sure that When Cradle, Enable PC Sync through USB and not through modem or any other connection.
After this put the dot on Disconnect when done. Usually it tries to maintain connection.
Hit OK.
In activesync go to Tools -->Options, then hit the "Mobile Schedule" tab on the bottom of the screen. Choose "manually" from all three of the drop down boxes. That should take care of it. You can only access the "options" menu in Activesync if you are not currently connected to your PC or connected to the exchange server via GPRS.
Hi,
I have MDA Compact III and ActiveSync with Office 2007 doesn't work with it although the same installation of ActiveSync on the same computer worked with Palm Treo 750 couple of weeks ago.
I can browse the device so the connection is definitely working. The problem is when syncing starts it just hangs on "Looking for changes".
I have taken the following steps but no luck so far:
- Deleted the device partnership on both ActiveSync and on the phone many times.
- Tried 3 different ROMs (1 factory Windows Mobile 5 and 2 Windows Mobile 6.1)
- Disabled Windows Firewall completely
- Uninstalled NOD32 Antivirus software
- Tried syncing Contacts only and Calendar only items
- Tried 3rd party PocketMirror syncing software
Has anyone else experience this problem?
Thanks!
Want to add I am using ActiveSync 4.5 and connecting directly to computer using USB without any hub.
I've had a similar problem, I can connect via activesync and explore, I can even sync IE favorites but anything outlook related falls flat on it's face
I keep getting the 85010014 error code which all threads suggest can only be cured by an outlook re-install, but I've done that three times including removing all security software, activesync, and outlook. I then re-installed outlook imported my backed up contacts, re-installed activesync and I'm still getting the same problem with the same error. So I've given up!!
Just a word of warning though, be careful if you start playing around cos if you delete the sync profile on activesync and don't do the same on the phone activesync can erase all your contacts and appointments when you next try and connect, even though it won't sync anything. It did this to my kaiser twice before I figured out what was causing it.
As a work around I've found you can E-mail all contacts and appointments from outlook as attachments and then save them to the phone, I've now got an email with all my contacts and appointments saved on my phone and have backed up using PIM Backup
Not much help I'm afraid but at least your not on your own.
I tried syncronising Artemis using a borrowed a laptop and it worked. So I reinstalled XP, Office and ActiveSync and now the phone syncs without a problem.
I have a few email accounts set up in pocket-outlook, but always have to send/receive each separately when I have a wifi and also have to manually make ActiveSync sync to mail2web, why doesn't it do automatically? it would save a lot of effort..
I've been looking through all the settings, there's no option to get this done automatically :/ it's quite a drag..
can anyone point me in the right direction?
hmm
interested in this topic, with schaps advance config you can set to connect automatically to gprs, however ... wifi not so sure. Latest MSN with no IM also wakes up GPRS connection upon boot, and in a way activates the synchronisation of my web2mail exchange server. Wifi is a lot 'cheaper' hehe ... and I believe stock shipped ROM is able to do it at least on my bro's polaris wifi stays on after a soft reset, and doesn't die when in sleep mode either.
Will be keen for someone to have a cab file for this,....
i have the same issue.
what i did was to do it kind of half-automated:
create a shortcut to start sync so that you do not have to go into your email application and start sync from there.
Code:
20#"\Windows\tmail.exe" -service "Privat" -Sync
if you have more email accounts consider using mortscript.
still not sure how to start sync once a wifi connection has been established.
With all 2.03 Roms and even the original Htc Rom Pushmail is working but activesync will be closed after 30 sec - 1 min. Then when you open activesync a new conection to server is made. So when you start active sync 3 times you get 3 http watchdogs. Active syncs works but not as it schould be and does in the older roms. It even has more battery usage and it will take much longer that your emails will arrive. Thats because actice sync is closed by tasmanager i think automaticly and then when the http watchdog goes down active sync is startet again to make a new connection and so on.
Sorry for my poor english.
Hello Sebastian,
like you, I found the disapperance of AS in the taskmanager curious. However AS seems to work just fine if I leave the device in stand-by. My AS-log shows normal heartbeats starting at 480s, going up to 1680s which is the default maximum windows suggested by Microsoft.
If AS were to miss a heartbeat, the heartbeat interval would stay at 480s and not increase in 300s-steps.
I suggest that you put your device on the table for 1-2 hours and then examine the CtrlLog0/CtrlLog1-files in \windows\activesync . The most important value in the log is heartbeat interval.
Fwiw, I use the official 2.03 GER-rom from HTC.
Have fun!
Looking further, I have just reinstalled SKTools on my device and had a look at the running processes. Although the task manager will not show Activesync running, the process repllog.exe (window: ActiveSync) is running in the background, eating up some ram, and seemingly working.
Do you sync over gprs or w-lan?
GPRS - AUTD will not work over WLAN, this is by design. AUTD relies on the network to transmit data even if the device is dormant, and WLAN simply does not receive data in dormant mode.
It does not work as in older roms. Here is my log file. See yourself.
hi!
does anyone have any new informations about this activsync problem?
PUSH mail does not work with spanish 2.03
After migrating from a Trinity to a Diamond, I write to confirm that official spanish 2.03.412.2 ROM has the related bug with Activesync.
Yes, the AS process remains in background, but it does not work as expected.
It opens various stupid simultaneous https connections against the Exchange server, and it closes them after a little of time. Therefore, the heartbeat is never higher than 480 seconds, and the effect is just like a 8-minute PULL mail service, with a lot of battery drain.
I have been testing an account in a Exchange 2003 SP2, and after in a Zarafa & Z-Push linux server (just an Exchange Direct Push emulation), because linux offers me better control to monitor network connections.
A "netstat" offers us that the device drops its https connections after a few minutes. Then the heartbeat is lost.
After this incredible thing, I have just tried an official 1.93.412.1 ROM, and the same account works like a charm, with a perfect heartbeat increment from 480 to 780, 1080 and 1380 seconds.
1.93 is much slower than 2.03, but it really works with PUSH email.
Any success with 2.03?
Every day, using HD2 or other device with data connection, We synchronize data for email's , weather, rss, pushmail, or dozen others purpose.
In my case I use automatic synchronization every 4 h, for mail, every 6 h for rss, every 2h for weather. It should be connected - when I'm connecting for weather there's should be other data downloaded ( mail, rss, ... )
Idea - to make a schedule application running in background that launch data connection every 2..4..6h or whatever user want, and synchronize everything user want in the same time. There was something like this in windows 95, 98, and xp. "scheduler" or something like that.
Other possibilities of application - to try with wifi before using gprs connection.
Currently using sense 2.5 in HD2 I cant even set from what hour it's start counting 2..4..6 h intervals
Schedule application should give possibility to choose irregular synch. for example - starting at 6:00 am - every hour till 2:00pm then change to every 3h till 8pm and no synch in night.
To be 100% clear :
Application should :
0. Run in background and keep hand on time, count down user time intervals for synch.
1. Try to connect via WIFI, and if it isn't available turn WIFI off and try to connect using GPRS
2. force all user chosen app's. to use connection and synchronize.
3. close connection after all done.
All other application will be setted to synch manually - forced by this schedule app.
