Just something I'd like to share.
Like most of us here I've been playing around with various WM6 ROM flavours and Radio versions.
What I have found is that there seems to be a relationship of some sort between ROM versions and Radio versions. A relationship regarding stability, speed but also battery drainage. Certain Radio versions simply don't go well with certain ROM versions I have found.
At the moment I am running Schap's WM6 4.31 Lite WWE ROM. Superb ROM BTW.
The Radio version that I have found to be the most 'matching' is Radio 1.51.00.10. It's stable, battery life of this ROM/Radio combination is fantastic, HSDPA works great and it doesn't slow down my TyTN.
I've tried lower and higher Radio versions with Schap's 4.31, most were also stable but there were other issues, like incoming call issues, HSDPA access and speed, battery life not that good, Bluetooth connectivity issues, or the responsiveness of my TyTN decreased dramatically (the latest 1.54 Radio ROM).
Who else has the same experience?
i only hace the 1.54 radio, but i try the older ones immediately, although m hermes is very responsive (crcs 6.1 release 6 ;-))
Regards
I allways flash the OEM Rom with the Radio that I want to use. Then flash the cooked rom.
I tried the 1.51 radio rom version with crcs 6.1 release 7 and it had a horrible power drainage... with 1.54 i had the best so far ;-)
btw: i have a herm300 if there's a relationship^^

Doesn't matter but: It's better to get the radio 'seated', 'tested', & working 1st. Then if all is well, flash the OS rom (u must have hardspl installed for both).

well, after testing 1.54 with the release 7 I have to admit that the power drainage is still very high... it seems like the release 6 was the most energy saveing in adversation to release 7 wich looks like the heaviest power consumer ever ;-)

Face to various ROM versions available is important identify the more reliable and stable. Please tell us your opinion.
Thank you.
I'd say try the new 1.42 T-mobile, it might have some improvements over the buggy (at least for me) 1.40 ROMs. If you want to go for sure, go with the 1.31 Orange or O2 ROM and extended rom with the 1.13 radio. It is not the latest, but very stable.
Have to agree, I have upgraded to the new t-mobile 1.42 and so far has been good (I was using the IMate 1.40 rom), also this seems faster but that could be me (I reinstalled all my software again from scratch).
I also use the 1.13 radio.
I have messed around and mixed and matched between the Orange 1.40 extended rom, and the T-mobile 1.42, I use an Orange SPV 2000 so saved me messing around trying to reconfigure all the settings for Orange.
Still suffering from the poor bluetooth headset sound issues (I use a jabra 200), but have given up all hope of improving the quality anyway.
I'm currently using the 1.40.00 O2 Asian WWE ROM, and I love it!
1.40 iMate ROM wit 1.13 Radio works great for me. I think I will give the T-Mobile 1.42 a go tonight though!
I love the i-mate 1.40 ROM... but the new T-Mobile 1.42 ROM seems to be a little bit more stable and faster so far. I'm using a cooked ROM that comes the best available from i-mate's Arabic ExtROM with T-Mobile's new patches, etc...

does anyone know new ROM from Orange release 25 August 06.....??
any link....??
Here we go with this new - ROM -

I understand that upgrades to radio 1.13, but what's about the rest of the version, i mean rom and so on?
thanks.
I'd also want to know what is new in this ROM aside from the radio. Does this ROM have both AKU2 and A2DP support?
Does upgrading to 1.13 on the radio make much of a difference?
In an area where I used to get a 5 bar signal strength on the alpine with radio 1.04 I now get a 2 bar signal with the Universal and my wife complains bitterly that the sound breaks up whilst I'm talking to her...

It is hard to answer your question because different radio versions have different performances on different locations. So you basically have to try it yourself to determine if this will improve the quality of your calls in your area. The most important thing to know is you will not loose your current settings or programs installed as long as you ONLY UPGRADE THE RADIO VERSION AND STAY AWAY FROM UPGRADING THE REST OF THE ROM.
Thanks will give it a whirl - iirc its a case of deleting the nk.nbf and ms_.nbf files out of the upgrade?

Yes, and using the Ma_Upgarde_No_ID Tool to install it. I'll probably try and install it too myself today.
I think it's time that some informed people start telling the rest of us what's changing from version to the following: personal impressions on perfomance are often contraddictory, many are downgrading after upgrading. What's going on?
Gah now I'm annoyed.
I applied just the radio update and at the end when it told me to do a cold start I did just a normal soft reset, fingers well away from the keyboard. It starts to boot and I notice from the splash screen that it's QVGA instead of VGA as I expect. I think "Oh OK I just need to run ozVGA again it's just got reset by the update" - all of a sudden it tells me to "Tap the screen to begin using Windows"
Not amused.
Fortunately I kept a backup but that's really annoyed me.

excuse my ignorance (cause it's really buggin me too! ) but how do you backup the EXEC? on previous PPC's there was a backup to falsh utility. all i've seen are references to backing up 'my documents'. i would like to have a full backup like i used to get.
any help appreciated.
nevermind "Spb backup" it is!
hi gquipster
did you see any difference in the radio upgrade??
i am also having a little reception difficulty with radio 1.09 sometimes 5 bars and couple of minutes later in the same location no reception so any feedback will be appreciated. thanks
Backups:
When I say a backup what I meant is that all the cab files etc that I use are all stored on the SD card so it was just a case of rerunning them rather than having to dig them all out. Also all my files are kept on my SD card as well.
I see they've removed the backup option from ActiveSync 4.2 anyone know why that would be?
Radio 1.13:
Well I haven't really noticed much difference in the signal strength indicator on the screen but call quality whilst sat at my desk seems the same - perhaps slightly better. It does seem to be answering calls marginally quicker but that could be wishful thinking.
Real test will be as I drive home this evening, several areas where the phone broke up yesterday where my Alpine didn't so see how the new Radio performs there.
I actually didn't use the no_id upgrade tool I re-encoded the radio_.nbf file changing the operator id to O2 and then used the ROMUpgradeUt.exe etc from the last official O2 update just with the nk.nbf and ms_.nbf files removed. Maybe that's why it hard reset my phone? Not entirely sure.
Anyway if there is anyone with a debugger/decompiler/whatever who can analyse exactly what the changes between Radio 1.09/1.11 and 1.13 are I'd be very interested, I'm wondering if it's actually the same update just with a different version number depending upon the service provider!!!
G
Did someone above mention that this rom makes the screen qvga? I would be interested in that, as long as it doesn't screw up my phone software (like it does with ozVGA). Just to get a clear picture, how good is this upgrade, if anyone has anything to offer from experience, when compared with Imate JJ 1.30.82 WWE and 1.09.00 (radio) I am using on my universal (O2 xda exec).
i applied the radio rom to the qtek rom. no problems - no qvga
Device Information :
Operator version : 7.130.1.174 <---- NEW info...What it is..?
ROM Version : 1.30.90 WWE
ROM date : 02/24/06
Radio version : 1.13.00
Protocol version : 42.47.P8
ExtROM version : 1.30.174 WWE
OS 5.1.195 (Build 14847.2.0.0) ----> AKU 2.0 (nothing new)
i think this is same with previous orange ROM, the new one ONLY Radio 1.13.00 updated, and have NO issue with new radio, everything seem OK..!
will be revert back to AKU3.2_Ivan and keep this radio...
I got QVGA cos I think I fscked up the update and it ended up cold booting my system. Haven't yet looked at exactly what I did wrong yet, might do if I get a chance after work this evening.
My current config now is:
ROM Version: 1.30.107 WWE
ROM Date: 04/11/06
Radio Version: 1.13.00
Protocol Version: 42.47.P8
ExtROM Version: 1.30.162 WWE
OS 5.1.195 (Build 14847.2.0.0)
Notice you have a different ExtROM version to me - what exactly is different do you know?
I'm off on holiday as of tomorrow so may not get much of a chance to reply for a week or so (depending upon how many emails I get in my work account by the time I get back!!!)
G
Is there A2DP support in this new ROM?
Radio 1.13
Seemed slightly better whilst driving home today my wife didn't complain about me breaking up as much but she did say that it still wasn't as good quality as the "that other gadgetty thing you used to have" (Alpine).
Also for the first time this evening it detected a 3G signal in my house (0 bars but it detected it!!!) for all of 5 minutes before switching back to a 5 bar GSM signal. Will try moving it nearer to a window and see if I can get the 3G signal back, but thats a definite improvement.
Anyway all subjective I'm afraid as I don't have the expertise and/or the tools to be able to do proper testing.
Still need to figure out exactly what I'm doing with cooking ROMs etc first...

i installed the 1.13 radio along with the latest QTEK ROM.
I've installed radio 1.13 with different ROMs and it always showed a very bad performance in terms of reception quality and GPRS/3G/UMTS functionality.
Reverted back to 1.11 now.

i have not tried Ivan's AKU3.2 ROM. at this point i'm just going to use it as is. it's working fine for me, and i need it stable for work.
i have not been able to get it to work on AKU3 yet either....
SMS - No incoming messages
I post just to alert others to a problem I have just encountered that may, or may not, be attributable to Radio 1.13.00.
Ever the adventurous, I flashed with Ivan's AKU 3.2 ROM and MvRTrue VGA and, I think, everything was working fine. Going a step further I then flashed the Radion from 1.09 to 1.13.
Now I do not seem to be able to receive SMS.
I thought for a while that I had cooked the Sim because I stupidly left it in during the Radio upgrade. But I have now changed the Sim and the same problem persists.
The problem could be 1.13 OR the combination of 1.13 and AKU3.2 OR something else (ie hardware problem) but, in the latter case the coincidence of it occuring at the same time as the ROM upgrades makes me think it unlikely.
I am just flashing back to Radio 1.09 to see if that cures the problem.
Has anyone else seen a similar problem and got any other suggestions?
Andy

i have radio 1.13 on QTEK ROM. i am recieving SMS messages fine since the upgrade last week.
Bak on Radio 1.09 and SMS working
Update - Have just flashed back to 1.09 and SMS working OK. So can only conclude that it is 1.13 problem (perhaps just incompatibility with O2??) or incompatibility between 1.13 and O2 SMS Plus app which I use for SMS messaging. Will do further tests - but tomorrow. In the meantime would welcome others' experiences.
Andy
Works fine with T-Mobile Germany
UMTS reception got better (in my room, UMTS from no availability to 2/5, GSM unchanged 4/5)
i'd have to say this seems to be the best overall package i've used (was previously running my own mix of qtek with radio 1.11 and orange ext rom) really fast and no dropped calls as yet. reception much the same but reasonable.
Hi all,
I have the SPV M700 its getting abit old now. I was wondering which newest Rom I can use.
I've got 1.25.000.TE
With Radio version 1.30.00.01
Rom Date: 02/14/07
My GPS is still slow and I hope I can upgrade it and upgrade windows.
new isn't always best
use the search button and start reading
this is the best way to find out
good luck
Tried it
Hi mate,
I've tired it, getting lost. Been away for a whole year :'( went dumb :'(
You could try ADW or NiAx or PDAVIET roms - I've used all three and had good GPS performance. Make sure you upgrade your radio rom too. Your radio rom manages GPS, GSM, WiFi BT etc. and to impact GPS performance you should try different ROM / radio ROM combinations.
IMHO the same radio ROM does not give the same performance with different OS ROMs.
I'm currently using NiAx latest ROM and radio 1.50.08.11 and am hapy with overall and GPS performance (iGo an Tomtom)

If you're looking for a good, stable super lite ROM, I recommend:
Mary v3.7 SL with Radio Version: 1.50.08.11. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=369917
I use it with various Spb software (not freeware but well worth buying) including spb mobile shell 2.0 that has a smart scroll feature which I find is far better than TouchFlo. http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/mobileshell/?en
I have had no problems EXCEPT once in a blue moon your device code changes after a soft reset. However, after another soft reset it changes back again, so no problem.
Tomtom works great with it too.
The only competition I see for it is FInixNOver 3.4/3.4Light http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=396075
He used Mary's ROM as a base and in doing so has included a fix for the device code change.
Every day I think about changing from Mary to his ROM, but so far I've avoided it as I am so happy with my pda at the moment and worry about a week of nights trying to fix it if something went wrong! He seems to be one of the most respected chefs out there and has a solution for everyone who has an issue. Plus a lot of other clued up people in here have his ROM, which is always a good sign!
A real useful page on all new Roms and Radios is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1951469&postcount=3
Hope this helps, let me know what you end up flashing to!
Mattster.
What do people recommend as the best official radio to use? Is there any benefit to installing the rilphone?
Currently I am using 1.17.25.09 with 1.15.25.14 rillphone. I have only been using the radio for two days but it seems to be giving me better battery life, I have to add though that the ROM you use also can make a big difference. same thing here ... I too use 1.17.25.09 and rilphone 1.15.25.14 for about 3 days and is quite good, battery lover, the signal is alsow good.Another good thing that I see is that in Igo 8 (ver 8.3.2.xxx) after downloading sattelites possition with quickgps i jumped to igo and start navigating, the fix was done in aprox 2 minutes (verry quick in my oppinion) but it lags allot...it could be my rom
