Is there a preferred tool/utility that's compatible with wm6 (if it matters?) that will let me overclock my hermes?

The only one I know of that works is pocket hack master

Have fun
Chris
I was under the impression that the Hermes wasn't really overclockable...
I played with the trial version of Hack Master, I set it up under/over clocked. I got some screen flicker when underclocked below 300mhz otherwise it seemed like it worked, I didn't try any benchmarks though. Give it a try. I'd be surprised if it doesn't work for you.
I don't know about WM6.1 though. I tried it on WM6

there is no way to overclock hermes. the procesor change it speed accord the needest of procesing. the can vary trougth 100 to 400 mhz. the hacker master software only show the speed but it doesn't change it on the procesor. this is the best way to safe battery power, cause less speed >>> more battery.
sorry about my english, i speak spanish

So your saying you can under clock with Hack Master, but it actually doesn't over clock above 400? I know it underclocked my hermes as I could see the screen flicker change with lower MHz. I'm gonna have to install their newest vers. and try some bechmarks. Unless aliencurv gets some results....
I can see that it would save battery with the underclock...

you cant change the procesor speed with any software. hack master only show you the speed that you have configured to change clock, but actually doesnt do anything.
the procesor speed is managed by itself.

Try loading the trial version and drop your processor speed to 200mhz and see and feel the drop in speed. Your screen will flicker too. Is it changing something else. I know last summer it didn't support the samsung processor, but it is now listed and it definitely does something to my hermes...

Search In Hermes Forum
Do a Google search in the Hermes forum and you will find a thread that was dedicated to this subject. I believe the conclusion was that, at best, one of the applications to overclock could be increased by, at most, 10% before resets were required. That may have changed with the release of version 4.3? of Pocket Hack Master this past January.

Hi
Is there an area on the xda2s where you can maximise your processor speed? On my old Dell x3 you could choose 'max perfromance' or 'conserve battery' etc.
It's just for a 400mhz product it gets quite slow sometimes..........
Apologies if this has already been asked....I did search for it but couldn't find anything...
Thanks in advance,

Your right for a 400Mhz it's sometimes slow ... d'ont understand it ...
My previous device was a 400Mhz aswell, and was much faster.
Maybe it has something to do because it has a build-in phone?
Have you tried
http://www.handango.com/PlatformPro...4§ionId=3287&catalog=30&topSectionId=3274
won't it damage the cpu of our pda?.
regards
Not if you dont push it too far! It defaults to 472MHz max, you can switch off this limit and take it further. Mine is stable at 472MHz, never tried to take it further. Overclocking generally wont damage the CPU unless you are daft. As a rule, the PDA will just crash if you take the clock speed too far. The crash may mean a hard reset if you are unlucky!
In short you can kill the proc through overclocking, but its unlikely.
One point to note is that the 'auto scale with cpu load' option on xcpuscaler is a load of [email protected] Does not seem to work at all.
I mainly use xcpuscaler to slow down my proc to 200MHz, dont need 400 MHz to read avantgo or an ebook, or listen to an MP3, but running at 200MHz does give a reasonable increase in battery life.
Nigel
I have installed the xcpus..., do I configure it so that it varies the speed automatically, but is it always constant to 400 mhz??
does somebody know because??
thank you
XCPU2.85
Anyone has a copy of XCPU2.85 which is not trial version. Mine has expired.
2.82 does not work in 2nd edition.
Try using Pocket Hack Master from Anrom Tomov. Runs good on the QTEK 9090. See www.handango.com
A little note
Dunno if any of you realize this but be careful should you decide to remove pocket hack master..
i noticed that it does not clear the registry of its CPU settings... i found this out by uninstalling the software (after setting cpu speed to 472)... and when i reinstalled it again.. the software defaulted to 472 mhz..
make sure you go to the registry to get rid of some of the settings... just do a registry search for anton and remove the reg entries..
sorry if you guys already know this.. and i don't know if left behind registry keys mean anything if the software is not active but better be safe than sorry right? and i'm a noob here so just trying to help out
does exists a software specially for overclocking my P3300 CPU? I tried xscalar, or something like that, but it takes my device only on 196 mhz, starting from 133mhz (or this 133 is over my 200 mhz by default?)

Look, just configure your ARTEMIS BatteryStatus,CpuScalar for 120, 201, 247 with this configuration your battery last for ever because when it doesnt need speed goes to the lowest speed, only if you are running aplication the overclock take action.
Hope it helps,

If you can avoid it, don't overclock!
As stated earlier in this thread...
I've found that overclocking, even with scaling, seriously affects battery performance.
I was until today running Vanilla 2.0, which was ok until I added batterystatus, with either fixed or scale doverclocking - both of which drained the battery like crazy.
If battery status is an isuse, use a lean, clean rom and don't load up loads of stuff you don't need - then the device will perform faster... I've just switched back to the Dopod WM6 release, and unclocked it runs everyhting I need absolutely fine.
To me, overclocking is like the salad bar in Pizza Hut.... I ain't going near it!

lol, thats good! Fair point, I'll keep an eye on the battery life.
Perhaps changing the max speed to the standard speed, but keep the low idle speed set will improve power consumption?

I think you're probably better off just not installing stuff you don't need, and where posisble install to your SD card, keeping RAM as free as possible - that will give you a cleaner machine and reduce the need to be tempted to consider trying to overclock... make sure that you have low standby and backlight off settings when on battery use, and keep your device on charge overnight so you always have a devcent level of charge in the morning. If you need to, buy a desktop charger from ebay for a few quid, and stick your phone on it when you get home...

Thanks for the advice. The CPU clocking is being done with Battery Status, which is part of the ROM, so If power consumption continues to be a problem I'll disable the over-clocking function from the Battery Status Options.
As for charging I'm fine, I have an in-car charger and a 40 minute commute every morning/evening
Thanks again,
John
i've got a question about batterystatus, maybe some1 in this post knows the answer:
is there a way that batterystatus keeps the overclock setting while suspended? i would love to UNDERclock my cpu to 123mhz when suspended, so safe extra battery, but seems that everytime i suspend, BS sets it back to 201.
i tried the options, but i can't figure out if it's possible to over/under clock while suspended.
Have you tried the CPUScaler option? It's build in to version 1.04
For the original FAQ etc goto the BatteryStatus website. Or read more in this thread.
i haven't try it. i have artemis 2.2

Well, although I can't uninstall the battery bar I have disabled the over clocking! I sat yesterday and could almost watch the power drain in real time, even with the Max speed set to 201Mhz. I switched the function off and the battery is lasting a lot longer again.
Moral: Don't over-clock at all!

I've tried ALL the cooked ROMS here - I have a 'spare' device for testing...
I use my device for work emails, sat nav, personal mails, web browsing, music, and as my phone. I pair it up with a Sony Blootooth car stereo.
So... aside from a few games, what else do you need to do with your phone? I'd suggets that most of the stuff loaded onto some of the ROMS is completely superfluous and just clogs up the device - things like the touch cube are really tarty overheads. Over the past year, I have played with most stuff that's out there, free and paid, and have a pretty default set of standard stuff that I load onto a clean RM. I was using Vanilla 2.0, but that still ate battery, so when I read that the Dopod shipped WM6 ROm was fast and bare, I thought I'd give it a go, and I haven't looked back...
Here's what I have on it, all running from the Stoarage Card where possible:
CloseAll
Hibernate
Hbutton
TodayAgenda (enhanced Calendar on Today)
Sunnysoft Contacts (one fingered dialling in the car)
TotalCommander
TomTom 6
Coreplayer (gives far better bluetooth audio streaming, and plays videos)
iphone keypad (default one buttons too small in the car)
SamsungTime (big clock on Today, but doesn't have the weight of HTC)
With all of this, I get brilliant battery life and a more than adequate response time without any overclocking, and over 20mb useable ROM.
TangerineTractor,
Why have you choosen the Dopod WM6 rom?
After having that rom I switched to the official Europe WM6 rom. No big differences, but with Ms Office 2007 on board, now the Word and Excel files are fully compatible with my desktop PC. The only disadvantage was that I had to install AudioManager separatelly. (But, in fact, I rather use CorePlayer.) It's a stable and reasonable fast rom. Storage Memory is low but each prog is in Storage Card if applicable. And there is very low RAM leaking (after a day of usage it's still above 20 M -- and Spb Mobile Shell runs constantly!).
Have you tried the Europe ver.?

Pocket Hack Master is only good if you don't use the phone functions. This version is not stable if you want to use your phone AT ALL. Needs to mature a bit more before I'll continue to use it. TCPMP does show quite an improvement when overclocked, however.
So there's no a good way to overclock our TyTn
Hi folks!
How can the HTC Hermes overclock. Did it with some tools tried, but rather less successful. Batteerystatus no, xcpuscalar, overclocked but not really at 472-500 MHz. And with the PHM I can overclock well, but then does my GPRS connection to the Internet no longer work.
Is there a way to change this?

Although it is possible to overclock Hermes it cannot be done relyabily or without damaging the CPU...
Some utilities may allow an active and practical overclock but I wouldn't advise it...
As you may know, if wou want your Hermes to be more responsive, performant, you can increase your ROM page pool size prior to flashing.
Cheers.
it might not be able to overclock.. but, should be able to keep the cpu locked at 400mhz and not throttle to lower speeds.. which would make it much more responsive.. I've been meaning to test this

The CPU is always at 400mhz. Wtf are you talking about?
no its NOT always at 400Mhz.. it has auto speed scaling built in. something is not right with both tcpmp and gxmark benchmarks.. using the newest PHM I manually set the lowest possible speed of 251Mhz, and disabling built-in scaling thinking of past knowledge that it doesn't do anything to our devices. I should not see any difference right? well visually it is MUCH slower than setting it at 400Mhz with both programs showing the same score at both speeds.. this CANNOT be correct.. I can see it with my eyes a night and day difference.. 420 seemed stable but the scores were showing slower than factory clock.. whats going on here?
this has been gone over so many times in the forum its not even funny any more.
use the search facility...
yes I know, I've read the overclocking threads from two years past.. ever considered newer software might change things? It does identify the processor correctly as a S3C2442A. I still want to know the answer to why benchmarks aren't reporting correctly.. BTW this thread should be moved
here are some results.. with a fresh boot I loaded a 39306KB AVI movie in CorePlayer 1.2.4. I ran its benchmark and also timed it with a stopwatch. The benchmark reported 1.60Mbit/s @ 3 Minutes and 21 seconds, also correct on the stopwatch. 321994752 bits divided by 201 seconds comes out to 1.601 Mbit/sec just like their calcs. Now I opened pockethackmaster 4.33 and set the clock to 420Mhz and reran the coreplayer benchmark. Here's the wierd part, the test reported that it took 4 minutes and 2 seconds with a 1.33Mbit/s rate but in actuality it only took 2 minutes and 58 seconds according to my stopwatch. Do the match, thats 1.809 Mbits/sec real throughput. So overclocking DOES work.. pretty significantly if I might add, but it appears that the timers used in these benchmarks are skewed and not reporting accurate numbers. Someone else try some tests and back me up here.

But then you lose Ram, and when you only have 30 or so mb's of it to start its a crapshoot.
sure, it might make some of your videos or games faster but you'll most likely have problems with any data connection
PHM can brick your phone to an irreversable state, and xcpuscalar falsely shows an increase in processor speed. Battery status will not work for the hermes, and I don't think there is a program that will overclock a hermes CPU. As for the not constantly running at 400mhz, that is not a bad thing. Think of it as a P.C., when you are not running apps, there is a system idle process that occupies the majority of the processor, meaning that not all of the speed is utilized. If this is the case, that means that the processor is not running at full speed. Same goes for the Hermes, however there is no system idle process, just a slower clock speed. When you open an app it will reach, but not go over 400mhz.
pleas see attached zip file
this program give you the ability to overclock the hermes up to 420Mhz
i tested it - and at 420Mhz the device becomes slower and some minor flicks of the screen
i went back to 400Mhz and the device went back to usual operation
regards
edward
I too have tried various clock speeds but at the end of it all i left it default as the device was too unstable.
Also I have of course continue my attempts to overclock Hermes, but I am no satisfactory conclusion. At the moment I use xcpuscalar have all possibilities of tuning 500mhz switched on and it is stable. A benchmark I have not done, so I do not know exactly whether he has speed. But the belief puts mountains.

is there any possibility to use for example only 650mhz?
It seems to help to disable radio (only Phone OFF) and plug the phone into the A/C charger.
This is a very early test version ....most users at HTC Diamond an Xperia confirmed that it works.
More tweak options ...lower/higher CPU speeds will follow, like i said this is a very early beta but it seems promising. For now it is only 768MHz .
Hi, work me it "works".
You have to disable all plugins on today (touch flo, titanium) and then it works.
In SK tools integer benchmark I get 485 points, 331 on standard frequency, which is I mean huge difference. But solitaire works for 5sec, then freezes. Igo 8 loads to main screen and then freeze....

I'm using a cooked rom with windows mobile 6.5. Windows now works a lot better, not as choppy as before, photos are loading a lot faster and I get about 5-15fps more on the psx emulator. Overall it works great, but keep in mind it's not really stable. It freezes with ease.
And I had to disable my Phone on comm manager (the option between fly mode and bluetooth) if I don't it freezes. But once you run the overclock you can turn it on again and it works perfect.
