Earpiece working, but main speaker not functional - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 General

Hi,
Hope you experts can help. I am having some problems with the XDA main speakers after it got submerged in water. Earpiece seems ok. But main speaker is not working.
This is my preliminary analysis. I know that there are 3 chipsets which control audio, MAX4410EBE-T, UDA1380HN, and 2 Opamps (LMV981MG). Does anyone have the block diagram or schematics to share ? Any idea how everything connects up ? I'm trying to debug the problem but it's futile without any schematics.
Am i missing anything here ? I somehow don't think that it is the AC97 Codec since I'm still able to hear sound when the headphones are connected.
Any help pointing me to the right direction would be appreciated.

Headphone and Speaker work simultaneously

Dear experts,
Sorry if this question was answered before, but I've been searching through the threads and couldn't find one..
I have a WM5 Orange Artemis (SPV M650) and I'm facing the following issue: when I play music with WMPlayer I get sound both through the phone speaker and the usb headphones. This is the same case with a friend of mine having the same device.
Probably there is some sort of a software solution to this problem, since with the already-installed FM radio application there is a button you can use to activate the speaker or to redirect sound through the headphones only.
Now I'm not able to use my phone as a music player due to this problem so any help will be much appreciated. Thank you!

Had this problem before, open up the volume slider part of the earphones with a small screwdriver (push on the plastic tabs that hold the 2 sides together) and separate the wires going into and out of it, I found some were crossing and moving them apart sorted it fine!
Hope this helps...
Thanks for yr reply Pjtheman, I will try this, though I will keep wondering if it were a matter of crossed wiring, why it works fine with the radio application!!
I'll open the headphones slider and see what I can find..
yours, Ksu
I've just opened the headphones slider and found that all the wires were duly isolated from each other..
Perhaps a solution to this problem is to install advanced volume controls that can mute and control the volume of the earphones and the speaker independantly. Does such application exist??
Thanks for yr help.

Guys,
Has anyone here experienced the same problem?? Am I the only one? Would you pls try and tell me if you have the same problem? Thanks for your help..

Fixed WiFi - Broke Mic :'(

Because of horror stories in the UK about HTC warranty response I decided to attempt to fix the WiFi issues myself. I did it and the signal is now infinitely better. But... in the process I somehow managed to break the MIC.
Here are some details:
MIC not working through handset when making phone call.
MIC is working when recording video (different MIC?)
Audio test using test code *#*#3424#*#* shows MIC is NOT working
Other forms of MIC input, e.g. BlueTooth are OK
This makes me believe that in the process of fixing the WiFi, either through heavy handedness in case removal or some accidental misake when phone was open, I have invoked a hardware fault.
Dos anybody have any ideas on how to resolve? What visible circuits (when open) affect the MIC for calls?
Any help welcome. I don't really want to write off the investment in this phone. :crying:
Thanks in advance!

[Q] Help Please - Using other MIC for phone calls

This is a self inflicted problem. :crying:. When I took apart my OneX to do the WiFi fix, I must have damaged the connection to the main MIC used for phone calls. Now my WiFi works brilliantly, but no-one can hear me on calls.
Just to be clear:
A wired headset with MIC works OK.
A Bluetooth headset or car kit works OK
Recording video still records audio OK. Assuming this is because it uses another MIC in the handset.
Unless someone has an idea how this can be resolved in a different way, the sort of thing I would be looking for is a utility to switch the MIC to the one used for recording video. Then I could use it with different ROMs too.
Any help or thoughts? Please?
PS: I have reviewed all the threads about tools and mods for something like this, but can't find anything. Was hoping the audio mod tools might do this but looking in detail, they tend to only improve what you hear, not what is recorded.

[Q] Soundabout app issues.

Hello everyone !
My M8 went mad today. It recognizes all headphones/earphones except the stock one that came with the device. The stock one works perfectly fine with all the devices except my M8. That sounds really strange, but it did happen.
I googled some forums and found that soundabout app on the play store could solve this issue by routing the audio to headphone jack. It worked.
I was tinkering with the settings of the app. I routed the audio to the earpiece(top speaker) only.
I'm somewhat skeptical that the top speaker now has less volume compared to the bottom one, when playing music/videos.
Does this mean that I have a partly damaged speaker ?
Also, can tinkering the settings damage the hardware(speakers) in any case ?
Thank you for reading.

I think that the earpiece speaker is actually less powerful than the bottom speaker. I use SoundAbout myself as I have an issue with one of my friends old stereo's. The phone doesn't recognize that I have plugged in the aux cable but it only happens with that stereo. So I have to use the SoundAbout app to change the setting to Wired Headphones.
I'm not sure if tinkering setting can damage the speakers, but I have damaged the bottom speaker myself by flashing one of the first CM12 nightly's that came out. The speaker is quite easy to replace yourself and same goes for the earpiece.
Hello,
I have nexus 5 with stock 5.1.1 not rooted.
I started to use soundabout because my phone didn’t recognize AUX-IN from my car audio.
Everything was ok for long time till yesterday.
Now, after I will use soundabout I can’t hear any call conversation. I need to restart nexus.
I am wonder If someone know some similar program that I can test.

A2DP Sound Improvement Thread

I wanted to start a thread where can have an on going discussion, research and ideas to fix the problems with A2DP Streaming on MTCD/E Units.
Im not even sure if ALL MTCD/E units have problems with this. Seems like its a small subset. but I'll describe the problem as a sort of clipping, fuzzy distortion that happens in the upper frequency. It seems to only happen at a particular frequency and that's it. Typically its really easy to hear the distortion if a piece of music has cymbals or something of the like. The distortion is only present when these frequencies are present, and otherwise a2dp sounds fine.
Thus far I haven't found a single solution to this, nor a root cause. I've gone as far as removing the MD-725 on my motherboard and getting a Comfast WU-725, as well as countless other things that dont help such as changing the BT Volume in factory settings, 7thfloor mod, etc.
From a technical perspective, it seems that A2DP on MTCD/E is a digital stream that is passed through USB but not sure where it goes to from there.. Where it is processed, I am not familiar with this.
There HAS to be a reason for this happening. Maybe its MCU related? Maybe its a bad high pass filter? I'd like to get to the bottom of it.
I was hoping some of the guys, in the know can help come up with a solution., such as Wadzio or 7thfloor or others. To those that have reverse engineered the MCU, is there anything A2DP related in there? Maybe the solution is patching something the MCU or fixing a hardware issue on the main board. There HAS to be something we can do to fix this issue.
This is also interesting for me, As I tottaly stop using A2DP because of this distortion.
Maybe is good idea to record this distortion and share it here and maybe some "compression" experts can find out, what can be the root cause.
Also minor issue is, that the player app itself is really poor to control (no track information in notification bar to provide to widgets,no albumart, no track position...)

If anyone is capable to edit it so that metadata information is shown, I am willing to donate to the project.
Looking forward to an answer to this as well.
