SMS Spam and new ROM coincedence ? - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam ROM Development

I just got an SMS spam message, something I have NEVER recieved before. I find it odd that it occured only hours after using a new ROM.
It might be a coincedence, and I don't blame the cook if it was true.
Has anyone else noticed recieving SMS spam recently for the first time?
I may be completely off here, but I suspect it may be possible for some app or something to report back to a source the number and carrier in which that info could be used by someone for some spamming campaign.
I happend to use the Pays 6.1 rom, and I have used previous Pays rom's without an issue.

It happened to me, but it was from MSN live. I had installed it on my phone and I started getting sms messages (spam)....to make a long story short, I had to email MS, and suprisingly they responded and stopped it. Is the txt messages something like 1000002030230Live etc.? If not then maybe it's something different for you. Good luck anyhow...

Missing Incoming SMS/Text messages

My Problem is, that I recieve only some of my SMS/text that was sent to my. So I heard from friends that they sent me a text message, but I didn't get it. There is no pattern on this problem. I have a conversation with 4 sms sent to me, but i only recieve 1,2,4. Message Nr. 3 is missing. Sometimes its also the first message thats lost.
All my friend got the status for sms/text activated and they get the status "delivered" for the lost messages.
Someone else that problem?
I only have seen the problem about sending, but none with getting.
yeah the same happened to me recently, but only with my GF number (same operator), not other contacts (AFAIK: since no one complained, no sms got missed!). still no diagnosis, and no solution obviously. hope that won't lead to a hard reset, which is a major pain
I had an issue that my sim card was full - it seemed the phone was trying to save sms to the sim. I deleted a few and now all seems okay. However they can't be going to the sim any more as I have received more than I deleted.
This happened after I had been using a spare phone as I went camping and needed a phone that had a few days battery life instead of the day or so that my touch pro 2 has
thanks for your help smudge.
it's not my case since my sim card is blank, no sms or contacts in it.
however, yesterday evening I hard resetted the phone, now I'm waiting to test if the problem is still here. If it is, it must be the operator's fault, or something related to my GF device / SIM. I'll let you know if I discover something new...
I have similar problem - I'm supposed to receive SMS, but I don't. I didnt have this problem (I didnt notice it) before I installed latest version of S2U2, maybe there's some problem with it? I have S2U2 set to show incoming SMS/MMS messages...
Also I have enabled hack mentioned in this forum which powers on mobile on receiving message (so it is displayed on the screen, not only notified by blinking LED and sound as is default setting). Maybe there is some incompatibility with S2U2, Im trying to pipoint this.
ChAr
uhm...missing sms should be the operator's problem,
i've been having such issue not only with TP2.....not all the time but usually consecutive sms with only one person usually caused it
i have the same problem, tried hard resets rom flash but no success!
i am from austria!..
please somone fix that thing
after HR yesterday evening no more missed sms until now, no one I had notice of. but that doesn't make me feel safe, it needs to be checked further.
surely gunggu is true!
sorry, probably ot, but i have the opposite problem.
I have too much sms in the incoming folder: I can see my sent sms. That means an sms like (me: hi bla bla..)
the received notification is disabled. any hint?
so after some tests, I figured out my problem.
It was the programm proxy cab, that I used. If it is installed, I got only every second sms, after it is deinstalled I got every sms...
Strange problem.
Hey there people all much smarter than me. I just bout a HTC touch pro 2 (i know 2009 called and wants their phone back) anyway i am having this problem of some sms messages not getting through. i have not been able to see a pattern due to not finding out about missing messages till sometimes weeks after i missed getting them
if anyone found a solution thats not alreay mentioned in this thread (cant find an option to save stuff to the sim)(cant find mention anywhere of "program proxy cab"
any help would be great otherwise i will have to go back to using my HTC tytn 2

MoDaCo, can you fix this?

Hey man....are you aware of this problem with the Hero where people are not recieving their text messages?
http://androidforums.com/htc-hero/8155-do-not-receive-100-my-texts-htc-hero.html
I don't personally have a Hero but my cousin does and he alerted me to this problem. It's nothing to do with your ROM, but it appears to be an OS issue as people are reporting it in different countries and on different networks. My cousin is running your 2.2 ROM and has this problem, but people running stock have reported it as well.
Would you be able to take a look into this and see if there's a simple fix for it that you might be able to sort out ahead of HTC looking into it? HTC must be aware of it by now but who knows how long it will take for them to fix it...
i've had the same problem. I always used ChompSMS for sending and receiving text messages. At one point i decided to remove HTC's Messages application (Mms.apk / Mms.odex). After that i was still able to send text messages, but i couldn't receive them anymore.
Bottomline: Ask your cousin if the app Messages still is on his phone.
Please either PM someone direct or preferably post your query in relevant thread, i.e. MoDaCo's rom thread.
No need to create new thread

SMS bug ??

Hi, I have experienced some strange sms problems with my htc tp2. I heard people talk about an sms bug, but I don't know if this is the same thing...
Aparently, my tp2 sends the same messages over and over to some persons. So if I send a new sms, he just sends the same message every time... The problem appears to be selective. I mean, only some of my friends get the same sms over and over from me, others don't.
The problem seemed to be gone when deleting al sms history of that person, but now, it just started again...
It's really annoying, as I don't know if people get my sms'es or not :s
plz help if you can! I would appreciate it!
grtz
Nobody? Could it be PIM backup that messes up my sms'es?
I noticed that if I delete the sms history of the person before sending a new sms, it works fine...
The strange thing is, it's always the same sms. Every time I sent an sms, without deleting the history, he sends the same message... :s
plz help!
Could it be that the message gets stuck in the outbox and the device is attempting to re-send it?
Im not 100% on this.
But im pretty sure its something to do with the service provider. Ive had this problem on many devices, from many manufacturers, on many service plans.
But like i said, not 100% sure. So dont hold me to it
The strange thing is that it's just some of my contacts who experience the problem...

[Q] Receiving 9114 texts? Hmmm?

So, since I flashed to a new ROM I have be getting a copious amount (about 40 a day) of texts from a 9114 number.
I'm assuming this has something to do with Sprint trying to send information to one of it's Stock Apps, because while using the Sprint Lovers ROM for a few days I didn't receive them at all.
Anybody know how to fix this problem, perhaps which stock Sprint Apps I need to install?
Also, I'm using CM7.
That is really strange
is that just recent?
where you located at?
You shouldn't have to install any apps. I don't know of anything that communicates over text message. If possible, backup your stuff and do a fresh install of cm7 because that shouldn't be happening.
Make sure you haven't accidentally signed up from one of those scam apps for a service that charges you a dollar a text message. What are the contents of the messages?

Here's what I found on Sprint Users regarding the 9114 text messages:
Hate to bring this back from the dead but I actually know why this is happening. It's a problem with Sprint Mobile email application that comes with most phones. It's actually quite helpful since it will allow you to get push email (ie instant email or blackberry like email) straight to your phone. The problem is if you uninstall the program or stop using the program without resetting your email information on the server, it will keep sending the email (push) notification in the form of the 9114 text message gibberish. I have the Touch and found out through trial an error and noticing that the texts come at the same time I kept getting emails.
A more decisive fix instead of just blocking the text message sender is by using the Sprint email program and re-enter your infomation for your previous email account. If you don't remember just start sending emails to your various email accounts (allow a few minutes between each) and wait to see if you get a text from 9114. When you find out which email it is, you should register with that same account again.
Once you have done that select re-register under the menu. Don't enter anything after that. It will clear your info off the server and now you can uninstall the email program AND you will stop getting the texts.
So in short, don't blame the gmail or yahoo, it's not their fault. The program is really to blame although it's a symptom of push email which is nice to have for free.
Thanks for the assistance guys, but I've since moved over to Sprint Lovers and it has stopped, very confusing. It appears whenever I use any ROMs that don't have the Stock Sprint Apps I receive the text message. Which is a really agitating problem considering I much enjoy AOSP roms in comparison...
I don't see anything that looks like Sprint Mail here...I was hoping once I switched over I simply just had to finagle that app and I coud move on 9114 free...hmmmm...
I'm sure they are referring to the stock "Email" app; probably isn't named "Sprint Mail". I think they are saying delete your email accounts in your Sense rom, flash your AOSP ROM, and then set up your email accounts again. I haven't experienced this 9114 issue and I've went from Sense to AOSP.....kinda strange.

I haven't used the stock e-mail app though, I pretty much rooted and went to a different ROM the first day I got the phone. (I was coming from an Inspire 4G...which I miss terribly </3 )
Could it possibly have something to do with the Sprint Zone? Perhaps a "Welcome to Sprint, please set up your..." type of situation?

You got me stumped......I'm on an AOSP ROM with no Sprint apps installed and have never received a 9114 text. Weird, very weird.
I'm wondering if it could be caused by the person who had the phone number before I did...if so...I feel like I'm proverbially SOL.
I would really love to rock the new Deck ROM too

[Q] SMS sent twice or more

Hi,
It's now for one year i have my HTC Desire (not rooted), and i have a problem with sms.
Two of the contacts i text the most reported me that they recieve my messages twice, sometimes more. One of them has a Nokia N900 and told me sometimes my messages get erased before he could read them (and it only happens with my sms) and the other one has an iphone 4.
So I think it comes from me but can't determine why, or how to stop it.
I'm using Handcent Sms (because of the annoying feature that converts sms longer than 3 or 5 in mms in the stock Messages apk).
For now i'm waiting for HTC to publish their 2.3 ROM for the desire, but it's still very boring.
I searched the web but i couldn't find any answer to my problem, so here i come to ask it to the most qualified forum i know.
Edit : I forgot to mention that for a few weeks my phone decided to randomly reboot without any obvious reason, don't know if it's related or not.
I had a similar problem, but it was my provider. Still occassionally it happens.
I'm french and my provider too. The friend with a nokia has got the same provider but never has the same issue.
But it could be.

Come to think of it, I first noticed the problem on my N72. I would also get duplicate and sometimes triplicate sms from different people. And sometimes they would get from me.
Upgraded to Nokia E65, and it still ocassionally happened.
Since then, I've changed phones to the Desire. Didn't notice it, but the first was stolen after 2 weeks, so I got a new Desire and also changed providers. Haven't noticed anything odd yet.
As long as you don't get charged for the additional incoming/outgoing sms, I wouldn't worry.
Thanks,
I have unlimited sms included in my plan so i do not worry about it (i'm more about mms unwillingly sent). It does not bother me that much, but my friends complain about it a lot, that's why i would like to find a solution.
I'd check with your provider. Give them a few "short" words. See if these things are indeed being sent multiple times. IF they are (3 mms to the same person at the same time), then the issue is in their sms handling system.
At the time I had the issue with one provider, we were getting charged for both incoming and outgoing sms/mms. in otherwords, we were getting ripped off occassionally.
But now incoming is free.
EDIT: I suppose your Sent/recieved notfications are set to ON? Keep an eye on them, and see if you get 2 or 3 of the same notifications.
