Do all roms run at about the same speed? I realise that the naked style of roms with few applications might be faster, but im really getting at the speed of the hermes once youve got a "standard" set of software installed (as from reading around most people seem to be running 90% the same software).
THanks andy
u can get all details from karhU awesome benchmarking thread ..heads up, u can't never go wrong with shamanix's latest, k's roms, berd's modded of schaps 4.01 lite & of course, schaps latest 4.31.. speed is bit subjective & it all depends to your usage (apps installed etc.) ... try changing the pagepool using om-by's pagepool changer.. u'll noticed the difference..
cheers!
I've tried some of roms you mentioned. My choice is K's 1.30b Full. That's the best for me. Again, it's a only an opinion
I try a few different cooked Rom, and my finally best Rom for me is K,s Flexi Rom (only OS). This is very clean and stable Rom, fast too.
TNT SE special professional edition is my choice.
You get all the basic softwares you required from tweaking, multimedia plus the ROM is fast enough. Works pretty well. Give it a try.
I heard that the tilt is faster than hermes...
i will Recommend TNT.SE or Schap's 4.22 (i didnt try Schap's 4.31 Yet), i used both and they are very stable....both of them.

definetly the choice for me. i've tried pays, schaps, storm and tnt but the "K" rom rulz. it's stable and faster than others (except storm that is as snappy but lacks a bit stabillity after installing some apps).
I might be asking a stuipid question, but can i change the pagepool without re-flashing my device? Ive not long got my hermes how i want it post the WM6 upgrade.
Thanks for your help
Shamanix Ultimate Roms are the fastest for me. I've tried em all.
Sorry might have missed it, can i adjust the pagepool size without reflashing my phone?
Hi, i flashed my JASJAM with Schap's 4.31 yesterday, untill now i can see it is very stable, very very fast and battery drain seams ok, i slept with 80%, and woke up with the battery at 70%......
i have downgraded my Radio from 1.54.30.10 to 1.47.00.10 and seems great till now.

No (system won't let me just say "no" so here are the extra characters! )
We`re waiting KarhU to wake up from deep sleep and do his benchmarking job on the new ROMs

I have read every wiki. I have read hundreds of pages of threads. I see superficial differences and features. I see some incompatibilities with programs depending on ROMs. Some variations in speed and memory as well. What I want to know is what are the MAJOR differences between the ROM's? I must have one that works with wifi and bbconnect. I have the 8525 which has been flashed with HardSPL and the latest radio from Mrvanx. I have not yet decided on a WM6 though. jj skipped town and custel seems to have one close to his but LVSW seems popular as well. This is a pickle.
Most important feature: Stability
read the wiki. someone started a project to do what your looking for and posted it on the wiki. if you cant find it, search for a thread that looks JUST (hint ) like yours, and the link is in his sig.
A link to that particular thread/wiki if possible. Also, is "Black" the only ROM having these wi-fi problems?
whew.. 2 whole mins of searching

I haven't had time. It just happens, not really controlable. It came from either spl or radio flashing, os flashes won't cause it to happen.
IMO the wiki is worthless when you start off. Even searching the wiki requires a separate wiki to tell you how to do it right. Everyone tells you to go RTFW but in the beginning, those comparison charts with endless version numbers mean nothing. Also, the builds are constantly changing with addons, tweaks and fixes that it's impossible to reflect that properly in the wiki anyway.
Having said that, I think the only way to find out what's best for you is to install all the ones you are thinking about and try them out for a couple of days. That's what i did and you get a feel for what each developer is trying to do. I also think it's a personal thing, as each build is slightly different in the way they implement features. Like it has been said before, this forum requires some investment in time. Oh yeah, and then wiki starts to make more sense too.
I have personally tried almost all of the builds and currently running CUSTEL 2.5. I like what I'm seeing so far and with the exception of a few minor problems, I'm not having much trouble. I'll still hold off judgement until I have had a chance to try it for a longer period. Before that I was running LVSW dev variant released by Sleuth and it was really rock solid stable for me. With regards to Black releases, 3.0/3.0.1 was a nightmare compared to Black 2.5. I have not tried the newer versions of the other builds yet. Good luck.
I'm using the latest LVSW, and it's the best one I've used so far. If I change it soon, it will be to Sleuth's variant of LSVW. Custel's are good too.
I had Black 3.0.1, and it worked fine, no bluetooth issues or any other majors, but I think LVSW is more stable.
Hello all, I've recently got into the whole pocket pc phone game not long ago but I've been researching on this phone for quite a bit. When I bought my secondhand hermes it came with the att/cingular wm5 rom, and i thought an upgrade to the newer wm6 would be nice since the UI looks nicer.
but after doing so i noticed a real huge difference in the decrease of performance speed. I've tried many wm6 roms from this forum like schaps, black, etc, also each of their lite versions too.
so i've come to the conclusion that i'll sacrifice the nice UI for performance by downgrading back to the hermes' native rom, which i did and i am now using htc's latest wm5 rom from this thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=298520
this is has been working nicely for me, speed is much faster than wm6, and i'm not minding the UI too much now that i think about it.
but the thing is it comes with htc's ugly neon green theme that makes it so dang hard to read the white text. i know i can easily change the theme + comm mgr + dialer theme, but i really dont want to add more to the phone than necessary........
so are there any other roms with more pleasing theme available for america/english language and works with att/cingular? i tried looking for this but i cant seem to find any cooked wm5, compared to the dozens of cooked wm6 ones. any input is appreciated!

i tried black satin ROM and it ran pig slow, i went to black majik ROM and its nice and speedy now.
madman, i've tried black majik before and i believe it was still a bit laggy in comparison. is this mod only available with wm6? i would like to stick with wm5 if possible
well, there isnt good way to do it. You can download addons on hermes wiki. anyway if you want a fast, good and stable rom, i prefer the ProBlack 3.0.1. its really fast and very stable rom for me. Ofcourse, if you want to stay with wm5 - you have only one way with themes of dialpad and others - you need to install them.

There is a leaked partial beta ROM of WM6.5 in the Blue Angel section. Can someone retrive it? Thanks in advance.
NOTE: THIS ROM IS CURRENTLY NOT FOR DIAMOND. UNLESS YOU ARE EXPLORING WAYS OF BRICKING YOUR DEVICE, DON'T FLASH IT!

Tbh, it's very, very unlikely that it can be ported because it's QVGA first and foremost. However we might be able to extract elements. I hear the scrolling is supposed to be a big improvement amongst many other things.
Finally, I think it's only a matter of time before a VGA version surfaces .
Hope this answered your question.
its seems to be still a mix of 6.1 and 6.5. But none the less its still winmo 6.xxx....it can be done
Strange...this screenshot shows it on the Uni (VGA):

What other improvements do you know of?
anyone looked at the cab files that come with the rom?anything us diamond user could use? (proably not as its not vga but you never know)
Tried them, but no joy. There's 5, the only one I haven't tried is IE, since I didn't see much point.
Haven't noticed any changes to poutlook though. Anyone else?
to me it looks completly like a fake. the right device has completly wm6.1 style taskbar and has touchflo 3d manila background set. ??
but not running manila to huge fonts and so on.
1. its a veryvery very very early 6.5 built or completly fake as we are used from our chinese friends.
Would be inclined to believe a very early build, since the video on WMPoweruser shows the scrolling in action, and not even FTouchSL (a commercial software) has achieved that level of kinetic scrolling yet.
Could this be used on both platforms (GSM and CDMA)?

Reserved, just in case....
Welcome to the cooking fray!
From the pics, it looks like it is well laid out with a good theme to it.
I like the name!
I spend so much time testing my own rom, that I don't get to test everyone's roms anymore. But, I do enjoy seeing others making something!
Cool rom name
Nice to have another chef in the hermes Kitchen!
welcome!!!
Another new chef in the room of ROMs i'll try to flash your ROM by next week and give feedback.

and thanks...
Do you have light version bro.
Good Question!

Congratulations. I flash myself this rom and i'm loving it. Good Job.
Hiya, just wondering if this rom supports HSPA data access?
Thanks
Adam
WOW! Thanks everybody for the nice comments! Made me feel very happy!
For the questions of someones:
I'm not sure if i'll release a lite version since it is based on Josh's kitchen so it would be basically the same that his 21109 light version...
Regarding HSDPA, I haven't tested since my carrier fares are too expensive... If someone tests it post some comments
Thanks again for the comments!
cool bro... downloading now..
Great rom
Hi, I installed this rome yesterday and it seems like what i was looking for, but I've had two Hard Resets so far...
I know there is a way to solve this by installing another rom first... i am looking for that solution as this is the first time it has hapened to me and therefore never paid much attention to it.
But great work!

The at&t stripped rom is what your looking for
try to upgrade your radio then re-flash again.
user this one >>1.56.70.11 more stable
MrEdLancelot, try flashing this AT&T stripped rom first and then YAHR v1.0:
http://www.4shared.com/file/61372397/e2bf76c0/official_ATT_WM6_striped.html
I think this will help with the hardresets issues
i've found a bug
if you try to use the camera with his button it will start "pictures & videos" program.
there is only 1 way to use the camera, and is using the manila2D button on pictures viewer
edit: FORGET IT!!! I'M IN THE WRONG THREAD!!! SORRY I'LL TRY YOUR SOON!!!
itz hard reset all the time....

is it "fast"? I mean is it aggrovatingly slow?
I can understand it isnt as fast as on a HD2 but as long as its relativly fast is ok.
Could you do this with blue highlights instead of the ghastly green the way NRG has done so brilliantly, or is it too difficult or time consuming.
Cheers
