WM6 - TMO:DASH - Voice Command BlueTooth Announcements - Working - HTC Excalibur

Obviously, those of you with a T-Mobile DASH who are using the WM6 ROM from T-Mobile that includes Voice Command do not have, or should not have an issue with Announcements via BlueTooth.
However, with so many other ROMs available, many of them more stable, I wanted an option to use these HTC ROMs while not loosing Announcements via BlueTooth. You can install the HTC ROM and then install Voice Command 1.6, but as many know, Announcements do not work.
Well, here is how I got it to work.
Start with the stock TMO/WM6 ROM for the Dash installed on your ... Dash
1) get/copy the Voice Command files from the Windows Directory

2) install the new HTC ROM
3) buy/get/download the distributable Voice Command installer for the SmartPhone
4) install Voice Command on the fresh HTC ROM
5) take the Voice Command files that you copied from the WM6 T-Mobile ROM and use them to replace the Voice Command files that were installed in the Voice Command directory on the HTC ROM
soft reset and when voice command loads, it now announces ... everything that I can think of, if you are using the Normal profile. It may work on other profiles, but I don't have the time/inclination to test out those scenarios

I am trying to use boggsie's method, but messed up and did not copy the voicecmd.exe file from the TMo DASH. Oops!
Can someone post the file for me. Thanks

If you are using a 6.1 ROM you do not need boggies VC, it's already in the ROM. I can make calls via my bluetooth headset with the 6.1 ROM.........!

There is a reg hack that allows all the calls, announcements, etc. to go through your bluetooth headset.

I am using a 6.0 ROM other than TMo, and Voice Command will not announce incoming calls. I think I can replace my voicecmd.exe with the one from TMo (it is changed to allow incoming call announcments), and it will work. Problem is that I do not have the voicecmd.exe from TMo ROM.
Can someone copy it from their TMo Windows directory, and post it here? Thanks.

here you go...this is from 6.1 which should be the same from 6.0

Lots in the rom development area could / may have happened, since I posted this tip. It has been well over six months, which for this community, is a very long time.
Making calls was never an issue. However, I (and many others in this situation) consistently ran into two issues.
1) fully functional call confirmation was unattainable
2) fully functional call and message announcements were unattainable
Again, I could make a call and talk all day ... that was not the issue.
So, the goal was to find a way to upgrade to another rom without loosing the aforementioned functionality. You could post-flash install Voice Command, but IMHO, it was a crippled installation for reasons listed above.
I haven't followed the SmartPhone scene since late February. It is entirely possible and probable that cooks have found ways to cook fully-functional Voice Command setups into custom roms.

Voice Comand announces incoming calls!
Thanks for the files, links, and boggsie's instructions. I will now know who is calling without looking at the phone while driving, drinking coffee, eating a muffin, etc.

Tired of re-installing apps after flashing!!!

Hi friends,
I am an x-Trinity user (2 years) and an owner of a Diamond for almost a week now. I have flashed my phones so many times that I can't even remember and I always had the same problem after every flash.
RE-INSTALL MY FAVORITES APPS IN THE PDA !!!!!
Does anybody of you cookers has any solution available on how to avoid this? What I mean is could I somehow get an image of my phone apps before flashing and just recover the apps after flashing the new rom?
or
Is it possible to create an automated installation process of the apps that the user would like to have in his phone?
I am sure that this problem has bothered you as well and maybe we could find a solution to overcome it!
My congratulations to all those great programmers out there trying to make our lives easier.
if flashing to the same rom (...): you can use pimbackup or spritebackup.

Or Spb Backup but I am not talking about flashing the same ROM. Personally I try to have the latest ROM available and most of the times is not from the same cooker.
Give a try to SASHIMI.....
ex-trinity owner here too..
i'm a bit frustrated not just over the app installs but getting back the settings. Used to use SettingsSaviour (app made by someone here on xda) but it seems to not work with the vga display.. things are all messed up. It would auto-install cabs, and reload back most general settings, etc..
anyone got a solution for this? i was spoiled using it so never rounded up all the provisioning xml files and stuff that i need to get the device back to the way i want it..
there are sevral tools on the forum to automate the re-install proces!
I myself do it with mortscript, works perfect.

I answered some question on this in the SASHIMI thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=392983
The next version due out in a few days should work on the Diamond.
There will be two issues:
1) Formatting may be a bit off, as I layed everything out for VGA devices.
2) Auto Storage Card install won't work, since I designed that based on screen taps for a QVGA screen.
Once the new version is released, try it out and it should work with the above exceptions. If someone out there wants to work with me on getting some better parameters for those options to get it fully working on VGA devices then we can probably do that.
You can post in the SASHIMI thread with any more questions/comments.
thx.
the TLR rom has an update feature that keeps you from having to reflash as often.
-mix
SASHIMI 6.5beta is out and I am interested in feedback from Diamond users.
I believe that the Auto Install to Storage Card will now work with Internal Storage.
I need Diamond users to test and confirm.
Post in the SASHIMI thread with any issues:

While MSVC does come with certain phone models, it is never distributed in CAB form. Operators use a package to add MSVC into their ROMs.
Because of this, we allow OEM Packages since the only way to use them is to cook a ROM with the files being added from the very beginning.

Apologies for posting the software. Just one question, are we, in anyway, allowed to post MSVC in other format, or just not at all?
Saw you edited the original upload as well.
Again my apologies.

No apologies necessary; just a simple mistake.
OEM Packages of MSVC have been posted here in the past, so our general rule of thumb is that it is permitted only if some version of the device came with the software. For example: The Touch Pro (Raphael) only ships with Cyberon Voice Commander, but the AT&T Fuze (US Touch Pro) ships with MSVC, so we allow OEM packages to be made available in the Raphael sections.

For those who still can't get wifi to load with the most recent upload please try the 2 suggestions below:
-Ensure wifi is started in WM prior to initiating haret
-Turn off security on your wireless connection
Instructions:
1) Delete existing android files (ensure data.img is deleted)
2) Extract files from zip onto root of SD card
Use this at your own risk. I doubt any harm will come to you or your phone, but if you get hit by a bus while loading android don't blame me.

-Mic is now functional in calls w/o having to initiate a call in WM
-Power management is now active, screen will turn black
-Keypad response on dial pad has been greatly improved
-Phone can now be fully powered off by holding end key and selecting "Power off"
Please use full download link in post #1

CDMA Radio - Ability to make and receive calls
Mic
Keyboard
Key Mapping
Power Management
Screen Rotation
WIFI
Not working:
CDMA Data
Speaker
GPS
Camera
Bluetooth
Much Much more...
Notes:
-In order to fully utilize mic / speaker you must place a call in WM prior to loading haret. Easiest method is to call your VM then while connected load haret. If you do not place a call prior to loading haret only your mic will function.
-If you have trouble registering onto your network follow the instructions below:
Go to Settings
Select "Wireless & networks"
Select "Mobile Networks"
Select "Network operators"
(Let the phone search)
Select "Select automatically"
You should now receive a message stating that you have been "Registered on Network"
If this does not work the first time, try it again.
For anyone who is interested in setting up their own dev environment follow my guide below.
Even if you don't have any programming expeierce you may have fun exploring the inner workings of Android.
Quick and Dirty Install Guide to setting up local dev environment by 95-Civic:
1) If you don't already have a linux box setup I would suggest downloading VM ware and finding a free image of Ubuntu.
2) From there head over to
http://source.android.com/download which should walk you through the installation of all packages required to retrieve and compile the source code.
3) It will take several hours to pull in the entire repository. Once download you do not need to compile the android code in order in order to build the kernel, we will use the prebuilt directory
4) Once you have copied the repository you will want to get a copy of linux-on-qualcomm. cd into the android source directory
5) type:
git clone git://gitorious.org/linux-on-qualcomm-s-msm/linux-msm.git
this process may take several hours depending on your internet connection speed
6) Copy the prebuilt directory from the android source over into the new directory created by the command above (linux-msm)
cp -r prebuilt ./linux-msm
7) CD into the linux-msm directory
8 ) Run the following command
make ARCH=arm CROSS_COMPILE=prebuilt/linux-x86/toolchain/arm-eabi-4.3.1/bin/arm-eabi- htc_msm_android_defconfig
9) If no errors are listed you will receive the following message: "configuration written to .config". Continue to step 10
10) Run
make ARCH=arm CROSS_COMPILE=prebuilt/linux-x86/toolchain/arm-eabi-4.3.1/bin/arm-eabi- zImage
11) When complete (if compiled successfully) you will now brand new zImage located in ./arch/arm/boot/zImage
As long as you use the rootfs.img and system.sqsh that I provided in the zip file you should have access to the CDMA radio to make and receive calls. In some cases you will not have access to the radio depending on the default configurations in the htc_msm_android_defconfig file.
Custom config is attached. You will need to unzip and copy the attached file into the linux-msm/arch/arm/configs directory. When running step 8 replace htc_msm_android_defconfig with htc_tp2_cdma_defconfig
This will not have any of the changes, additions, and tweaks I've made to the linux-msm source. However it should give you a fresh bootable image and a great place to start. I would like to create a gitorious clone in the near future but right now any free time is better spent on data.
Happy coding and please feel free to PM with any questions.
Just wanted to thank you for your effort, this is very exciting! Are you planning on following this all the way through until everything is functional and it can flashed on to the phone?

Greatness
Way to go Civic, this is extremely exciting. I have been quite envious of the RAPH800 Android functionality (turned my RAPH800 into insurance for the RHOD400).
I have you bookmarked, will continue to test updated builds and report back.
On this one, nothing new to report on errors - no data, but I did connect to sprint network. I had called my VM before booting, but I had no mic or speaker, will try again.
Thanks and great job!
Great Job
Hi Civic,
I just wanted to thank you for your work, flashed the rom last night, this is the best build thus far.
I did try out your version of XDAndroid and it seems a bit more sluggish/buggy than ones I have used out of the Topaz/TD2 thread.
CDMA radio works for me in both versions.
Obviously No Data or SMS.
One good way to speed up the install on the slower SD cards is to put the card in a memory card reader on a PC and run windows defragmenter on the card.
This is after you have booted into android the first time so you have the 256MB data.img already generated. I personally noticed a speed/fluidity improvement on my 8gb Class 2 SD card (came with BB Storm), however your mileage may vary.
defragmenting works on regular HDD because if a file is spread across different sections of the disk, it takes time to move the head and read those parts of the disk.
defragmenting won't make any difference with solid state media because there are no moving parts and its access time is virtually 0. it doesn't matter if a block of a file is on sector 0 or on sector 308563434, solid state drives access them all with exactly the same speed.
defragmenting on solid state media is a snake oil recipe.

Shakes head, you do realize why this thread was started. Not to work on GSM, but for CDMA version. There are a TON of GSM android threads right now, but no real CDMA thread.
And 95-civic... THANK YOU!!!
Thanks been waiting for this kind of thread.
I loved using Android on my XV6800 but once I switch to TP2 I lost access to the marketplace (still waiting to see if someone can get wifi working). So I cannot wait to try this for TP2!
Just out of curiosity, what is your end goal? A fully functional flushable android rom (which would be great) or a fully functional harret?

I asked here because an option to help was offered in the prior posts in another thread.
Also, is it possible to get the gsensor working. I find pulling out the stylus to activate landscape to be somewhat annoying. Is that just a temporary thing, will we eventually get to use of the gsensor and the keyboard slide activating the landscape?
It's amazing how such great progress can be made and yet someone has to ask about the gsensor working. Baby steps man. Speakers and Mic are very important. Then data and SMS. Once the basic phone functions are there, I'm sure Civic or someone else will start attacking things like Gsensor. Sorry, not trying to be rude but focus on what's more important and don't worry about the smaller stuff. Kudos Civic. Well done.
On a side note, I also would like to know if you plan to take this all the way to the finished product with a flashable ROM. Either way, you can expect a donation in the next few weeks from me. (Christmas wiped me out!)
Thank you so much!! I love this phone, and I think android on it will blow the nexus one away. I cant stand on screen keyboards!! Keep up the good work and you will be getting my donations and many many thanks!!
new zImage Available
The most recent zImage can be found in post #2. Unzip the zImage to your SD root and over write existing file. Don't forget to delete the data.img file as well.
Not a huge change but I've fixed the key mapping. I've had less than an combined hour over the past 48 hours to get in front of my home computer due to long days at the office this week, next step is to tackle the speaker / mic issue.
Enjoy!

I don't own a GSM phone so I can't confirm. Try the most recent zImage in post #2, just remove the ".95-civic" from the end of the file and overwrite you existing zImage.
BTW the ".95-civic" will be removed in the next build. Obviously it's just a simple renaming of the file, but we'll call it .CDMATP2 or something along those lines.

For now I will continue with Harret, but ultimately we all would love to have a flashable rom to utilize the phone's internal memory. Since just above every other htc phone is ahead of us with their android ports, I'm hoping someone figures this part out by the time we catch up!

[Ask Your Questions Here] Questions And Answers for Vogue Users

All,
Due to good success in the Blue Angel section, I have decided to open a Questions and Answers thread on this section of the forum as well. This will be good to keep the number of new threads with questions down to a minimum, which will make new threads essentially for people that are contributing to the Vogue in any way. This includes but is not limited to people that are providing
*New Roms and Kitchens
*Programs and Apps
*Fixes
*Skins
*Tips and Tricks
However, I have a life (and so do most of you), which is why I would like to request the help from other Seniors (or anyone who knows the answer really ) to monitor the thread as well. This will have the added side effect of creating an ever self updating knowledge base that will far extend the content of the Wiki. This will in turn save us from having to answer the same question 37000 times...
Without further ado, lets go for it!

GOOD IDEA!
Hi there Gents any input
Barogi awesome so far for v2; media player not staying in full screen mode though, and manila home weather under clock wont update when you push update now also getting error message for manila home on reboot
Great idea for a faq page!
I have been using a NFSfan rom on my bell vogue for a while, and it crapped out today for some reason. Rather than put another WM build on it, I wanted to change to Android.
I have looked through many pages in here, but I can't find a simple tutorial on switch from a custom WM build to a Android build. I prefer to use the NAND method so that I don't ever have to see WM again...
Can someone create or point me towards a step-by-step guide for installing Android? Keep in mind that I have absolutely no Android experience, and that my custom ROM is completely messed up, so would it make for sense to flash the a manf build and upgrade from there?
Thanks

One last thing, please do not double post. Thanks for understanding...
I have a question:
I recently flashed the Bell rom with the latest radio (I couldn't get the radio only nbh to apply properly), and then subsequently flashed with the latest NagROM rom (which is awesome btw).
Now of course, at startup i have the nice HTC screen with the rom version etc, followed by an AWFUL blue BELL screen (and then the nice orange wm6.5 screen).
Is it possible to change the blue BELL screen? And if so how?

There was a cab to change that somewhere around here in this section of the forum. Alternatively, you can flash NFSFan's rom (which will get rid of it), or you can try mine as well and then reflash Nag's rom.

Hey everyone,
So I was running NSFANS 6.5 ROM on my device (Amazing ROM btw) But I needed to revert back to the stock rom. I used the VZW updater to go back to the stock rom and I changed the esn on line. When I dialed the *228 and choose option 1 I got a failed message. So I called customer support and he walked me through a manual programing. Well that got voice working but when I went to use the data it wouldn't work. I made sure all the network settings were right, and I still couldn't connect. Well then I hard reset the device and now I am back to square 1. No voice no data. Is this something from NSFANS rom that is messing the phone up? I don't want to call again because their tech support takes forever and I am afraid they are just going to tell me to take the phone into the store. Thanks in advance!

Why did you change the E$N? Where you using the device in a different carrier?
Back to your problem. Your EPST settings should survive a hard reset as those are parameters that are not stored in Windows (afaik). It really makes not difference which rom you are using (at least for Voice and SMS).
Lets focus on your main phone's capabilities first. If your EPST settings truly got lost, you will need to get them from Verizon again. The main ones are the MSD and MIN. Make sure that you write them down this time as you will need them again if they go bye bye.
As for your internet, you will probably need to set the correct username in the phone's programming as well (also info that you will need from Verizon, but it should be something like [email protected] or something like that)
Do that and let me know if this works. They will have to program this for you this time, but once you have the values that I mentioned before, you will be able to do it yourself.

I have android 2.1 currently on my vx6900, Id like to go back to close to stock Rom, but without all the verizon carrier "flavorings" and rescrictions.
Any ideas? Personaly I liked the simple clean useage of win 6.0 without all the extra graphics ( besides the HTC home plug in and the touch flo )
thanks in advance.

Try to get Barogi's latest "lite" rom. Also, you can't go wrong with vin's 28014 or NFSFan's rom. I would recommend mine, but I think they might be a little heavy for what you want. Good luck.
i checked out NSFSfan. It was nice, but waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to much for what I want. Ill check out the other you suggested before i just flash back to stock rom

Try to avoid stock if you can... it has a bad tendency of being too heavy on the extra apps.
I checked out just SS's of both. Both look awesome, but theres something about the simple look ( or im just used to it since my 8125 ) of the stock look. I would like to have the look but the added memory of a cooked rom.
With NSFSfans, could you remove the today screen plug ins to get back to a more stock look?
Im runnin 2.1 android eclair at the moment, and im barley pulling a full day battery with no data/bluetooth. With the old winmo, I was getting 2.5 days-3days. Thats another main concern for me.

HTC Titan (AT&T unlocked) Updates?

I recently bought two HTC Titans from the States. They were supposed to be unbranded thru Amazon, but AT&T ones arrived and then were unlocked and working. They both have ROM version 7720 loaded. Connecting through Zune, I get the message that software and phones are up to date. This is obviously incorrect as the following updates are missing: 8107, 8112, 8773. Doing some rearch, I understand that AT&T is not going to roll out any more updates for their phones, even though they are unlocked. I tried forcing the update (by diconnecting while updating) but to no avail. Can anybody please assist with some advice.
Is it true that if the updates are not up to date, then 7.8 won't load and update?
HTC managed to get me a UK ROM, but the file is in .nbf file format and they are scared it wont work on my phones. Should we try and update or is there another solution?
Your help will be greatly appreciated. I want to keep the phones as current as possible and able to accept WP7.8.
Region:South Africa
It's not known so far whether 7.8 will be only available if you've received all previous updates.
I don't think that the UK ROM would have issues, but it might result in problematic signal quality with the non-AT&T radio driver. You might want to HSPL the device and flash a custom ROM with that radio.
Also, be aware that you can force system updates on the phone using th cab sender method.

cab sender method sounds like the answer but seems so complicated if you are not so technicaly minded!

Don't worry, it sounds more complicated than it is. Just read through this thread very thoroughly.
It's really just about making a backup, download a few files (the updates), putting these in a folder, run this tool and press 2 keys. The guide there explains it very in-depth.
Be sure to not to skip the text, as you for instance will have issues if you don't update your languages, too.

Thanks for the encouragement. A few questions if I may please: Article talks about language packs - do these refer to Display language (English) or all keyboard languages?
Tried using Version and Language by Heathcliff74.xap, but phone gives message that it does not recognise file format.
Lastly, should I load all updates in sequence, or can I go straight to Tango (are the others necessay? I presume yes)
Thanks once again Cheers Calli

You were right. It is very easy. Worked a charm. We now have updates up and including Tango (8773).
Thank you
