Connecting to pc killing wifi network - P3300, MDA Compact III General

Hiya i hope someone can help, i took delivery of my MDA compact 3 yesterday to replace my aging blue angel. Everything went well until i connected it up to the computer. I already have active sync 4.5 installed for my previous phone. But as soon as i connect the phone via usb to the computer it kills my wifi connection. I have to then re boot the machine to get it running again, im 99% sure this is down to the actual phone as my blue angel has worked for years without this problem. Is there a setting that ive missed?, ive spent hours trying to figure this out now, the phone for some reason appears on my network connections (never happend on old one), ive disabled the network setting but it still kills my net..... aggghhh lol
thanks in advance for any help.

thanks for that, sorry for the late reply not been online. Anyways ive tried that and its still doing the same thing, ive now started to sync with bluetooth as this solves the problem but not ideal.

Update...... I just loaded wm6 from tmobile website hoping this may solve the problem. I tried that walk thru again and no dice. I kept losing all my internet connections. SO i had a play with the phone and in the settings menu i found a USB to PC icon. I opened that up and UNTICKED "Enable advance network functionality". Pluged the phone again in the usb slot and away she went, all my connections are still live!! yipee.
Hope this helps a fellow member out in the future.
thanks

O2 Xda IIs "wakes up" by itself!!!

Ok, I am getting increasingly frustrated trying to resolve an issue... my Xda O2 IIs keeps "waking itself up" ....aaaargh!!!
I hit the power button on the top to shut off the display (it saves power and enables me to lock the other keys from being accidentally pushed) but after a very short time, the screen comes on by itself, and I can't figure out WHY!!!!
While just sitting on my desk or out on the road, not in the cradle, I noticed, from time-to-time, that the "G" Icon at the top is often replaced by an "x" and the 'left/right sync arrows' ...so I naturally thought it was trying to connect to something.
I thought it might be trying to connect to GPRS, so I removed the connection. It didn't fix the issue.
I thought it was a Bluetooth File Transfer issue, so I deleted that connection also... still no resolve.
I checked my ActiveSync settings, and it all looks ok.
PLEASE HELP, it's killing the length of life in my battery on a daily basis!!!
i had the same problem when i was on the o2 rom, i sorted it by getting shut of the o2 rom and installing the imate 1.40 rom.... it runs faster, better and never needs soft reseting, with the added bonus of wm10.
but i kinda came to the conclusion that when the fone itself talks to the network every so often, ( ya know when u get interferance when its next to a radio or ur desktop speakers.) as it did it at those times, maybe u should stick it next to something and see if u get the radio interference, and see if it does this in flight mode......
also maybe think about removing the o2 active if u have that, and as a last resort, if no-one else can halp with a fix, maybe think about upgrading to imate 1.40 rom...
Mine did this for a while. I can't remamber the EXACT setting, but it was activesync trying to sync on a schedule (like every 5 minutes) over WAP.
If its the same problem, a bit of rummaging around the activesync settings should sort it out.
-Mike
Thanks joey jojo. Thanks mike freegan.
Joey, where can I get iMate 1.40 ??? Although, I really don't want to use the iMate rom. Ideally, I'd like to find and fix the problem I'm having with this O2 rom.
Mike, I checked my ActiveSync settings on the device... everything looks ok to me. Under ActiveSync/Tools/Options/PC Synchronization: 'Use this PC' is set to ZEUS (which is my computer name) and the other two boxes are UNchecked for 'Use mobile schedule to sync with this PC' and 'Sync with this PC during manual sync' ...then when I click on the Options button, the 'When cradled' dialogue appears, the checkbox for 'Enable PC sync using this connection:' is CHECKED and the connection to use is set for 'USB' . Then, under the 'Mobile Schedule' tab, everything is set to 'Manually'.
BTW, when I put the device in 'Flight Mode' ...it doesn't mysteriously 'wake-up' by itself.
I agree, it appears to be trying to use GPRS to 'connect' or 'sync' with something... I just can't seem to find what or where the cause is located. Aaaargh!!! Any other ideas guys?? Anyone else?
XDA III IIs IIi Waking UP
I've found that if I leave my bluetooth switched on it does this I'd love to have my bluetooth on all the time but as it does this I have it off unless I'm using my GPS.
Can this be fixed ?
Thanks Carl n Adele,
I tried your suggestion, shutting off BlueTooth, but after doing so, and then pressing the power button, the device STILL wakes-up after about 20-30 seconds. So, that wasn't the problem.
Is there any O2 subscribers that can call O2 Tech Support and ask some questions? I'd even call myself if I could pretend to be someone else. Just a thought, if there was anyone willing to help out.
i will try to get u xda support number, i work at o2 so i might be able to ask someone too... tho i guess they wont know, cos there idiots.... lol
I had this problem too. Found that Activesync was still running in the background and was using "mobile schedule" to sync via GPRS (even when set to manual), check that ActiveSync does not appear in the Running program list...
Thanks joey jojo, I really would appreciate the help!
m4ttyw, you are correct, ActiveSync was running in the background. But I had set everything in ActiveSync to MANUALLY SYNC. Nevertheless, I STOPPED ActiveSync in the Running Programs List, then pressed the Power Button again, and with fingers crossed and holding my breath, I waited to see if the device would 'wake itself up' again... and... sure enough, it did. Same thing as always! DAMN! Nice try though, thanks.
This is really frustrating me. The manual shows NOTHING about that Icon at the top if the screen (see earlier message in this thread) and what it is doing, so I can only think that is is still trying to connect or sync something... AAAAAAAARGH!!!!!!
Hmmmm, I wonder if it might have something to do with the GSM Band setting? It's currently set to Automatic, I am not sure what it SHOULD be set to for Rogers in Canada???
Darn think waking up
checked all my settings and its def the bluetooth causing my problems
Not mine, Carl... I have BlueTooth SHUT OFF and the device still wakes up by itself!!!
NEW Observation: When the device wakes-up, it takes about 5 seconds before the "G" icon changes to the 'sync' icon with the 'x' (see pics earlier in this message thread) but, I've noticed that signal strength drops off to nothing except a few dots "..." as if it were searching for a signal. And then, immediately comes back to normal signal strength.
sol
This is sometimes caused by a conflict between ur current radio stack and the frequency ur network is using.
What i mean is, the 'G' icons only represents the availability of gprs in ur current coverage area.By default, ur phone syncs with ur provider every x interval
in seconds, by which the state of gprs availability is changed (Hence, its icon) in ur case, ur pda wakes up whenever ur pda syncs with ur network. A temporary solution would be to choose a network configuration (under settings - connections) which doesnt have a gprs connection. This might, or might not cure it. The best thing to do in my opinion is to change ur current Rom ( or atleast ur radio Rom) that would definately cure the problem.
Try both solutions and post.
Sorry for my worse english.
I met this problem for several times, and it seem to cause by active sync inside the PPC.
I have to connect it to PC and have a Sync Operation, then solve it .
My Device :
Simpified Chinese Dopod 696
The Version Number is fogotten Because I had upgraded it .
Thanks gz_lgz,
I think you are CORRECT!!!! I started to think about what you said in your message, and decided to INSTALL the NEW VERSION of ActveSync 4 on my desktop pc.
After installing ActiveSync 4, I did a sync, removed device from cradle, pressed the power button on the device and waited... and waited... and waited... and waited... and waited... and waited... AND it did NOT WAKE ITSELF UP!!!
It seems there was something happening with the ActiveSync installed on the device that was not working properly and therefore kept trying to sync itself again & again, but since installing the new version of ActiveSync, it corrected the problem.
NOTE: I suppose that uninstalling and reinstalling the OLD version of ActiveSync may have done the same thing... but I never tried to do that.
Nevertheless, I am very happy that it is working properly now!!!
Thanks EVERYONE for your time and patience and WILLINGNESS to help!
Gentlemen,
After upgrading to the latest Dangaard ROM I've got a problem that seems to have the same root cause although the symptoms are slightly different.
If Bluetooth is switched on and my hands-free Logitech is paired with the Blueangel, it wakes up every minute. Once the hands-free is switched off, the device sleeps normally. Another lame thing is if the phone call is long enough for the device to go to the sleep mode (longer then 1 minute in my case), the Bluetooth connection is dropped and the sound is transferred to internal speaker.
There is no need to mention that Activesync is stopped. I'm quite sure that all these problems have something to do with the power management of the device. That's why I'd like to ask if somebody uses any additional software for the power management and if you've got any recommendation on the subject.
Hope it could help us to get rid of the problem. Any help is greatly appreciated. My device details are mentioned in the signature.
PS. Thanks to all the contributors to this wonderful forum. I must admit that the idea of BlueAngel was as great as the implementation sucks...
Update: Check this out: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=21235
I think this workaround is good enough.
just a thought, but open active sync on your xda, and make sure that on the PC tab, the box marked 'use mobile schedule to sync with this pc' is not ticked and the other marked 'sync with this pc durin manual sync' IS ticked
also on mobile schedule tab, all selections are set to manually, and the box marked 'sync outgoing items as they are sent' is not ticked.
dunno if that will help, but its a thought anyway!!!

i get the same problem with mine - ever since i turned my active sync onto manual it started with the problem so i turned it back to automatic.. just seeing if that fixed the problem i've been having..
also Downloading the lastet Active sync 3.8 and see if that helps..
I've figured out that its Sprite Backup Software v3.0 thats causing my XDAIIs switch on all the time. Disabling the Scheduled Backup seems to resolve the problem.
However, I've upgraded to SBSv3.14 which works even without turning off Scheduled backup.
Hope this helps

USB Sync Problem

Hi all,
my TMO-MDAIIIc stopped syncing over usb cable!
I do not have any clue why!
Last thing i remember i installed the OpenVPN-Client!
I did this before on Windows Mobile 5 without problem.. So i presume it's not caused by OpenVPN!
Nevertheless i wonder if anyone has experienced this as well? I tried to connect the device to several computers without even ActiveSync recognizing it. But loading the battery over USB still works!
I also do not get a "Network Interface" if i connect the cable.
I searched several forums and find out there were similar problems, but unfortunately no solution for me...
It seems not to have something to do with the "Notification deleted" problem..
As i can see several replog.exe notifications. Also the one about RS232 Connections... Is there any other Notification missing maybe?
I also tried to play with the USB-to PC option in the settings menu. No effect.
Im totaly clueless i can sync via bluetooth, and irda, and of course wireless (gprs).
Any help would be much appreciated!
Cheers!
Syn
My phone stopped working the same as yours about 6 months ago. I recently found out that it was because i charge my phone in my car, which can damage the USB Interface Board in the phone. (usually when you have the phone on charge, and then start the car, causes a spike in the current).
As far as i know, the only way to fix it is to send the phone back to the supplier, who will replace the board under warrenty.
Assuming you have the same problem
Hi, thanks for reply!
could be true! I also charge it in the car frequently... I didn't payd a lot attention to if i plug it beofre starting the car or after...
So my last try now seems to be a "hard-reset".
I'll let you know if it fixes the problem.... If not....
I may need to "downgrade" the phone b4 sending it right?
Cheers!

yeh, its probably a good idea to put the original ROM back on
What's really bugging me is:
Why is it still "loading" the battery after damage to the USB-Circuit??
Anyway.. i did the hardreset, and guess what...
no effect... my problem now is.. if usb stopped working.. how do i flash back to original rom? :->
bluetooth? *shudder*
Cheers!

hi,
I always clear the option usb to pc.I think this wil solve you problem

yeh, same as me i havent been able to flash a cooked ROM to mine at all. You can change the ROM by using the MicroSD, as long as you are USPL unlocked. There is a section in the Wiki about how to do it.
You cant change the ROM using bluetooth, caus half way thru flashing, whats gonna control the bluetooth??!
The Battery still charges caus the battery charging circuit is seperate to the USB control circuit
Are you guys running XP on your comp/laptop? have you turned off your firewalls? i had problems syncing on my laptop with xp, now i use my comp, but i found if i removed firewalls all was ok. if you have tried reflashing, or if you havent flashed any new software if you have tried re-sinstalling active sync, try the above, im sure its somethign simple

I've tried everything... WinXP, WinXPx64, Win2000, Win Vista, active sync V.3-4.5... the only answer is to send the phone back to T-Mobile, they will fix it under warrenty tho, so it aint so bad.
hi thank you all for your replies!
unfortunately i think mugglesquop is right,
the device died from power overflow from car adapter...
funny thing here is: i use a motorola car adapter all the time! no problems.. then i changed to a tmobile provided adapter! And now it seems that tis one is vulnerable to power highs! Great!
You know what ? I love t-mobile for providing "cheap" "crappy" hardware!
actually im downloading the original rom i found and i will try to flash it back via sdcard. Then i will send it in!
Cheers!
Syn
What rom are you using ?
I had the same problem & i was using B&B4.3. It took me a couple of days of trying before i could get an activesync connection. I then flashed O2's mobile 6 Rom & hey presto everythings working again (now trying different rom). Not sure it was the Rom as only a few people seem to have experienced the problem. So it could have just been a coincidence. Also i would assume that the problem should be instant rather than after a few days of having the rom flashed. Have you tryed jiggling the usb cable about in the phone to try & get a connection ?

Good luck getting ur MDA sorted!

GPRS problem unsolved

Hi,
Im using unlocked T-mobile MDA pro 64mb phone with WM 6.1 (build 19960.1.1.8 TML)
The problem is that when I connect to GPRS, Internet explorer, outlook and most of the internet softwares (opera browser, google maps etc...) don't work. Internet explorer stops at loading. outlook says synchronization error. But, a few softwares like IM messenger, some trading software work fine. The problem occurs only when on GPRS. Everything works fine on wifi.
I have been facing this problem since I have unlocked the phone and flashed it for the first time. I have flashed for several times with various roms. initially it works but soon problem reappears. hmm.. Problem did not appear in WM 6.5 (but phone is hell slow. So, im forced to remove it). Further the problem is not network specific as I tried on various networks.
Guys please help me.. I searched a lot on internet and it seems like no one is facing this type of problem in the whole world except me
(Except this: social.microsoft.com/forums/en-US/windowsmobilephonesandaccessories/thread/64977e4f-c8ba-482a-9845-c1d80f88fd71/)

Hi!
thnx for ur reply... I'm desperately waiting for it...
Any how I tried this... as usually it worked fine at the beginning and problem repeated again. The new development is that the application which I said to be working previously (IM messenger etc...) are also now working now...
Very much frustrated about this issue as I'm unable to find the background reason for it . Even the XDA forums cant help it....And the worst part is that warranty is not going to apply as I unlocked it..
Yet no solution...
info?
Which network?
Prepaid/postpaid?
Did you add a new connection manually yet it won't work?
You are doing something wrong because this is weird.
Go to start>settings>connection>connections>tasks>add new connection>
name...anything, access point.....airtelgprs.com / internet (for idea ) / aircelgprs etc.
Done.
Launch browser , it should connect if you have data plan / enough credit.

Hi
Thanks for your suggestions.
Im using airtel network. and all those settings are already set on my phone.
Yes. I accept that my problem is weird. Thats the reason why I'm unable to find a solution for it.
Yet... I'm testing by changing various roms and still no success.
every time the problem repeats on 2-3 usages of gprs.
When I use opera browser it says that "I have some problem in settings". What to do I've checked those settings for hundreds of times and further if there is a problem in connection settings then why the heck it worked for the first few times?
Some stupid suggestions
Try same sim in another handset,
Try another sim or another network in THE Uni,
Try another cell tower area,
Because I have tried every single ROM ...shipped or cooked and this has nothing to do with GPRS getting disconnected.
As you said "I am the only one in the world with this problem" , means it cannot be a real problem , have faith , keep trying.
And for the warranty...Just flash the Original ROM and you are good again!

Hi
I did every experiment I can think of.... Including testing this sim on other phone or testing the other sim on this phone.
I even tried flashing the original T-mobile rom.
I also tried to find if the programs I install has something to do with the problem...but found none of it affects.
As you said it may not be a rom problem.
If it fails to work completely then I can guss some thing about the origin of the problem like rom or hardware or whatever...
As it is working well initially, I don't understand where exactly the problem lies...
have you done a doc-format? sometimes that can get rid of very peculiar problems.

Hi
Is the process of using mtty and task 28 55aa command what you call doc-format (sorry for ignorance)?
Then I've already did it...
anyway thanks for your suggestion...
I think the real culprit is activesync. anyway I have to do some tests and confirm.
To clear my doubt I decided to conduct a small test. I factory reset my system for three times to check the gprs connectivity...
First reset:
1. GPRS worked flawlessly.
2. On connecting to pc + pairing up + synchronizing problem reappeared.
second reset:
1. GPRS worked flawlessly.
2. On connecting to pc by pairing up problem reappeared.
First reset:
1. GPRS worked flawlessly.
2. On connecting to pc without pairing up problem reappeared.
So, this strengthened my assumption that the problem is with active sync.
I cannot confirm so easily...
Further I would use my phone with out connecting to PC for 3-4 days and check if problem reappears.
Then I would check it by connecting to a different PC. Then I can confirm whether the problem is with active sync of my system or the phone...
By the way, today is the second day of my testing without connecting to pc and no issues detected till now
folks,
Today on the fourth day of my test, I conclude that connecting to my pc creates the gprs problem. No Idea how and why...
suggestions any one?
anyhow I would connect my phone to a different pc and check out if the problem is with my pc or with the phone...
no suggestions?
How much space have you got on the phone after sync? The computer may be trying to sync to uni even though you are not aware of it.
How confident are you with dealing with your computer registry, I mean, if you are using a Windows PC that is. You should try to clear any traces of old pairings from the PC before connecting the Uni to it again and allowing it to do a fresh start. It may be loading all sorts of corrupted or duplicated data that are messing up with your system. Backup your registry first, just in case you mess it up by mistake, to be on the safe side. Then, get stuck in and search for the word activesync (or words to that effect in your language) on the registry and where it shows the pairing settings delete only the keys related to pairing with the Uni, then try connecting again. Hope this helps.

Desire WiFi conection problems.

Hi Everybody,
Firstly I wish to apologise if there is a thread for this somewhere, I did a search but found nothing to help. So to the problem, I am unable to connect to my home network, I get as far as the phone trying to connect then it just says dissconected. I imported this phone from the UK.
Things I have done so far, changed the channel on my modem router to 6
Reset the phone to factory settings.
Followed the setup screens and switched on WiFi, selected my network (excellent signal) I am using WPAPSK. and typed in my key then tapped connect. The phone goes through the process of trying to connect but then advises disconnect above the green dots at the bottom of the screen. the screen then reverts back to select network. I did all this setup straight out of the box the first time but it did not connect then so I moved on in the setup process and thought I would do it again after completing set up. Tried again to no avail, that`s when I did the factory reset. I have only had tis phone for three days and it is a steep learning curve for me,so any instuction/advice you guy`s can give me would be gratefully received.
THANK YOU.
Try changing the security to WEP1. I know it's lousy, but iirc Desires have problems with WEP2. Someone correct me if I'm wrong

[Q] Arc WiFi Disconnect

Hi guys, I have a problem with my Arc connecting to my WiFi.
It connected the first time with no problems at all and I was able to browse for long with no disconnection. I manually disconnected and ever since it won't connect again. At my WiFi settings it keeps saying connecting. . . followed by disconnected over and over again.
I have searched the forum and googled and could not find the exact problem I'm experiencing.
I have tried 3 different firmware versions and it is the same problem on all of them.
I have cleared all user data and cleared the SD card with no success.
I have tried all the different security modes on my router (Billion 810 VGTX).
Also tried changing regulation domain as well as the channel ID.
My friend came over with his X10 and he connected fine until he disconnected manually and he now has the same problem, he can't get it to reconnect again.
So I think it must be the router if it is happening to both of us?
Please, if any of you geniuses can give opinions as to what could be the problem I would greatly appreciate it.
If I missed this in the search, I do apologize.
Regards
Rudi
Hi
I had similar problem. The previous release was ok for me: 4.0.2.A.368.
There might be an issue with the .283.
