Here is a link to the files for the Dell Axim X51v A012 ROM. Someone posted this a while back under the A03 thread. I have used these with my Ax with success, but bear no responsibility if they don't work for anyone else. These must be flashed using the SD Bootloader method.
To read the steps for flashing from SD, look in WM6 A03 Thread.

If I might suggest, try the Wm6 upgrade again. I really like Wm6 A03 RTM, and the only reason I have this A012 ROM is because I had to downgrade and reupgrade, because my ax didn't like the fact that I went to A017 inbetween. Everything works well for me now.

Have you tried doing it with the original Dell firmware software (on the CD)? I read somewhere in this forum that you can use it to fix a bad flash, I never did myself (very happy wm6 user).

This is old but felt nostalgic today.

Follow this to downgrade but be warned the Axim or just old PDAs are picky on the SD cards you use, or maybe how its formatted. dug up many sd cards and micro sd adapters until i found one that finally worked. Also be patient because its slow to flash image.
Used a Nokia branded 1.0GB sd card that i dont remember where i found it, formatted on windows 11 to FAT32 and maybe guiformat-x64.Exe (so many sd cards and formatting combos)
Edit: mod removed link because it had an offer to do the downgrade but had isntructions on how to do it, wont post again but its been posted around here before, i was not trying to sell anything.

i recently purchases a Dell Axim X50v, and i have upgraded it to windows mobile 5 AO2. i want to upgrade it to WM6 AO1. i want the SDHC card support. can someone help me out, i'm new to the site, and can't seem to find it. also is wm6 stable to run on axim x50v, cause if it is going to harm my device i'd rather not upgrade it.
There is always a risk associated with upgrading your ROM. Be sure to use the correct ROM, not a ROM for the x50 or the x51 or the x51v. I believe the ROM you are looking for was created by Maglite and is located in this section of the forums. Just scroll down a little it may have been pushed to the second page. This would be the place to inquier about the stability of the ROM, and there should also be instructions for flashing your device.
i found a the maglite rom but it wouldnt download could someone post a link to the one that works, and i have no idea what flashing means

Sorry to be a pain but wondering if anyone can help a newbie in over his head.
I have a dell axim x51v. Ive upgraded to wm6.1 lennysh A07 and all was fine. I then purchased a cf gps receiver and obviously found that it has no cf support. I then decided to downgrade back to the dell official a06 release of wm5 and install the patch to get cf support. The dell app that i downloaded times out when trying to install it which i presume is because of the non standard image on the axim. Ive also tried doing it via sd update but the bootloader says the dell image is not a valid rom .
Could anyone please explain how i can either downgrade back to the original dell rom or install a new rom (pref wm6.1) that will support my cf gps receiver?

Do you have the A12 SD image files? If not, I found them from HappyMM's post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1376710&postcount=140. I was able to flash back to A12 using these files on SD card, when the Dell installer wouldn't work, for an x51v that I had to return for exchange.
I have no CF issues with this ROM:

I am using CompactFlash GlobalSat GPS (sirf star III) with TomTom 7 and Garmin Mobile XT (coz they have Mexico maps). Works perfectly with this ROM and Footballs A03 ROM. Also use a Hitachi 8GB CF card in there when GPS unit is not in use and no CF issues.
Do not go back to WM5 unless you tried everything and it didn't work for you.
Thanks to all for your comments, turns out it wasnt anything to do with the roms at all. It was the actual device itself which was faulty, found out after about ten hours of troubleshooting.... sheesh
I would agree, do not go back to WM5 if at all possible. All of the ROMs I have tried for WM6 and WM6.1 have been nothing but positive on the speed of my unit and the stability of my unit.
I've been searching through the site for a good 2 hours and can only find snippits of information how to do this downgrade. Could some give me the instructions on how to downgrade from WM6 to WM2003 A05.
Also the file links for the WM2003 A05 ROM don't seem to be around anymore, anyone know of where I can download them. Thanks in advance.

My Axim X50v was stuck (after upgrading to WM5 and then to WM6). I needed to unpack these files to SD card and RENAME the file names from "Dima..." to "WM5.. "

To make a long story short, where can I obtain a reliable version of wm6? I understand Football had one, but has been superceded by another.

Look for footbal rom here in xda or for lennySh here http://forum.htcgeeks.com/forumdisplay.php?f=17
Note you can found wm6 roms and wm6.1 rom
to flash your ppc read a tutorial before and understand "the risks" (i've flashed more than 20 times without problem)
You'll need a SD card (bootlaoder need a SD not a CF or a SDHC)
Format it to fat32
copy the two rom files (more or less 40mb)
push the power and wireless button of your ppc (maintain two to four sec.)
! be sure you have more enought battery (20min)!
folow the instructions (very simple)
note: flashing a rom remove EVERYTHING on your ppc so backup your document and application (personnaly i always install app on SD or CF)
NO NOT TRY to restore a backup from old rom (even if sprite backup seems to work) or you'll probably import old registry entry wich are not the best

My problem is, i have a dell axim x50 and i have bought and GPS sd card receiver.
And i install tom tom navigator, but every time he loose all battery, he losses everything installed on him, every config and anything.
I already have tried to update him, but when i run SD Card loader it don't find any update on the sd card, i already have tried a lot of roms, and it never found anyone...
my rom version is window mobile 2003 SE v4.21.1088
