Ok I have a Sandisk 16g micro sdhc card that reads and writes fine in my touch pro 2 but if I take it out and try to write to it with a card adapter it says that the memory card is write protected. Does the TP2 put some kind of write protection on it or is this an issue with the card itself?
The card is ok.
The write protection is on card adapter.
Already tried that...
Im aware of that and Ive tried two different card adapters withe lock off and no luck.

I can take the card from my (TMo) TP2, put it in my PC with an adapter, and write to it, so I don't think the TP2 is the problem.
I don't know the answer, but did you possibly format the card for some reason, maybe on the TP2? Also, I tried googling "can't write to sd card on PC" and came up with quite a few suggestions. Good luck.

ok well i did some searching and it appears to be something with the usb. It will read and writ just fine it i use something attached to a usb cord but it gives me the write protection message when I put it in an adapter. Go Figure.
I've looked around a bit, and correct me if I'm wrong, but it doesn't seem like anyone else has my problem.
Long story short, I've got a 8GB Class 4 Sandisk SD card, and it worked well for the first few weeks. However, as of recently, anytime I connect to my PC in any way and try to transfer files over using USB or Bluetooth, it fails due to the unexpected removal of my SD Card. This is without me physically removing it of course.
I've tried formatting using default settings, and I don't know what else to try... can anyone shed some light here?
Have you tried another SD?
If you have and problem is still there, I would try a factory reset.
If after all this effort your problem is still not resolved, then i would say a call to HTC is your best solution as it could be hardware related.
Oh couple more things:
Try a different USB cable.
Try a different port or pc.
Okay, I tried it with the stock microSD 2gb, and I didn't get this problem ... basically it just means I've got a bad 8gb?

Be aware there has been countless reports of fake sandisk SD cards being sold everywhere including eBay and Amazon's market place.
So before purchasing a new card Google how to spot a fake sandisk and it should give you an idea of what to look for or not.
I had also faced this situation ...i changed with class 2...nw it working like charm...

I purchased mine from London Drugs, not sure if you know it, but it is a trustworthy place so I doubt my card is fake.
One more thing for clarification, do you think that setting the phone so that it auto installs to SD could have some effect? I set mine up like that due to the lack of internal storage. Thanks for the responses!
i didnt have this issues before hope u can fix it

Auto install to SD should have no effect mate.
Also the fake card situation - well they have been sold by legitimate sellers believing them to be genuine, not trying to deceive customers.
Apparently the market has been flooded with them.
I read about it a couple of months back.
Not saying yours is fake, was just saying your average user wouldn't notice at all.
I have a Bell Note 2 and I recently bought the 64GB SanDisk Ultra microSDXC UHS-I card. Since using it, I noticed that (when installed) the Device Status of the phone changes to Modified and I can't check/download Android updates from Samsung. Also, the Samsung Video Hub app won't let me use external storage to save movies (which I could do using my old 32GB PNY card). The card seems to read/write okay though.
I contacted Samsung by email, the reply was laughable (solution was for a different issue on a different phone). I also contacted SanDisk and they suggested reformatting to FAT32 using a utility from www.sdcard.org. I haven't tried this yet but I know that FAT32 will reduce file sizes to 4GB. I don't know if it will have an effect on the read/write speeds of the card.
Just wondering if anyone else using this card was experiencing the same issues. If you haven't checked, maybe you might want to.
I miss the build quality, sleekness, and how quick the battery would charge/how slow it would drain.

I've been looking at that same card. I'm definitely interested to see how this resolves for you.

I just bought one.I formatted to fat32 using a third party formatter from the web called eause formatter.Everything is working good now on mine.

No problems here. It even worked in my ancient Desire Z, TF101, and HTC Raider

Well, I tried to do what the SanDisk guy told me but the formatting utility that he mentioned doesn't have the option to change file formats. Started out as exFat, still exFat. Some of you have mentioned using other formatting/partitioning utilities - the folks at www.sdcard.org say the following:
"The SD Formatter was created specifically for memory cards using the SD/SDHC/SDXC standards. It is strongly recommended to use the SD Formatter instead of formatting utilities provided with operating systems that format various types of storage media. Using generic formatting utilities may result in less than optimal performance for your memory cards.
The SD/SDHC/SDXC memory cards have a "Protected Area" on the card for the SD standard's security function. The SD Formatter does not format the "Protected Area". Please use appropriate application software or SD-compatible device that provides SD security function to format the "Protected Area" in the memory card."
So there you go.
I am using the card with the t-Mobile version and it working fine.

Works without any problems in mine.
The weird thing is that it starts out okay and only shows up after I've reloaded all my apps. Even then, I can still read and write to the card. I just can't get updates because it says that my phone is modified. I can't see how an app would cause it. There are no side-loaded apps. And it doesn't happen with my 32GB card.
Just a quick update for anyone who might be wondering....
After making this thread, I went to my local BestBuy and bought another SanDisk microSDXC that was exactly the same as the one I had. I put the same files on the card and the phone did exactly the same thing. I did discover however that the problem shows up when I reboot the phone with the card installed but doesn't show up (at least not right away) when I unmount/hotswap/remount the card with the phone left on.
Then I took the card to the BellAliant store where I bought the phone and had them try the card in a brand new phone. Same problem on the new phone.
Nothing funky on the card, just my songs (transferred using DoubleTwist AirSync) and my photos (transferred via PC). This card hasn't been reformatted and my phone hasn't been rooted.
So I don't know what's going on, if its only a problem with Galaxy Note 2's that are being sold in this area. I can't believe that no one else is having this issue.
Anyway, I put in a support ticket with Samsung (again), not expecting anything new. The Samsung tech that I spoke with did say that only TWO (I think) 64GB microSDXC cards were tested and approved for the Note 2 and that the SanDisk was one of them. Also, the girl at the BellAliant store said that they were told that the phone only worked with a TOTAL of 64GB (internal + external) but I KNOW she was wrong about that. Just some of the things you hear when trying to troubleshoot something that no one seems to have an answer for....
iMHO you really should format it fat32 and retest.
-- other suggestions for tools --
Might search for mini partition tool or gparted live cd. I've used the gparted live cd to partition my 64gb sandisk previously for dual booting my og atrix.
-- I'm sure there are better suggestions on tools, but I strongly suggest converting it to fat32 before further testing / actions.
The Note II ONLY supports FAT32
When I got my new 64GB SanDisk card I powered off the phone. Pulled the back cover and replaced my 32Gb with the new 64GB micro SD card right out of the packaging and then replaced the cover and powered it up. Phone recognized it and accepted file transfers to it without issue. No problems to date and I have been using it for 3 weeks without issue.
ExFAT works fine with my note 2 on perseus. Doesn't play well with note2core though

If the Note II only supports fat32, then someone needs to tell my note because it's working fine with my card on exfat. stock kernel and all.
I too have bell note 2 with 64gb sandisk and everything is fine. I jusy put the card in the phone and formated with phone. Its exfat btw.
I suggest u to format the card with phone so it can format with the appropriate fike system.

See, that's the strange thing. The card DOES "work" - it formats fine and I can transfer files to and from it. The ONLY problem is that, when I put my files on it, the status of my phone changes to "modified". Then, when I go to updates, it won't even try to connect to the servers, just tells me that my phone is modified and that updates are not available. As I mentioned above, I've duplicated the problem with two identical cards and in two different phones (one of which was in-store, brand new).
I realize that I can just take the card out of the phone when I know an Android update is available to download, I just don't always know when updates are available. In either case, doesn't seem like it should act that way. And I didn't want to force-format the card to FAT32 with a 3rd party format utility because that would destroy the "protected partition" on the card and void the warranty (those 64GB cards are expensive).
I understand that I might just have to live with this, it's just odd that no one else is experiencing it. Think I'm going to let this thread die. Folks on XDA tend to not like re-reading the same thing over and over. Thanks to all who replied.

Why do you think formating an sd card with fat32 would void the warranty? Never heard such thing before. You can format any file system you want.
Like the title says, picked up an SD card, doesn't show up under the Storage menu or when I connect to PC via USB. I've downloaded an app that lets me format the SD and it shows up there, but after formatting I still can't access or even see that the SD card in installed.
It's a GSKILL class 10 64gb SDXC
Hmmmm. Have you tried a different card to see if you get the same results? I'm using a Lexar 633x 64Gb card. No problems to report so far.

I have a Samsung 32 GB micro SD card. Says 10 HC on it. It worked immediately when I popped it in and I didn't have to format it or anything. Has all my previous files on it.

I am having the same problem with a dual sim D858 G3.
Have tried Sony, Samsung, Sandisk MicroSDXC cards of various capacities, none work.
Anyone have a solution ?
Hmmm, investigation with a torch and loupe revealed that one of the MicroSDXC reader pins were bent down.
Managed to lift it with a needle and now it works fine.
This was on a new phone, wonder if other people's problems had a similar cause ?
Format the SD Card in storage settings. It should format and be useable
Try couple things:
1. Try (may be borrow from a friend if you don't have one lying around) a different brand name card. Some generic brand cards (especially from eBay) are little flimsy and does not provide proper contacts. It happened to me on both HTC M8 and LG G3. Tried SanDisk card and all went well.
2. Try formatting the card using PC into Fat 32 format (you can always reverse this formatting to ex-fat) and see if this make any difference.
3. This one sounds very basic but under storage, sometime you have to manually click on "mount SD card".
Good luck!
Ok try this
1- but it in lapttop slot (card reader of laptop ) dont try another way .
2- use SDformatter 4 .
3- ok now put it in your device.
I hope it will work properly

I have this problem too. April 2017 and LG STILL haven't sorted it out. Impossible for so many owners to have faulty phones. Definitely a SOFTWARE issue ! Terrible customer service. I actually NEED to use an SD card in my work. .Never getting an LG phone again.

Have spoken to a repair shop and what they said is that this is a typical issue with the LG G3, another one (which I also see a lot) is spontaneous reboots, even when the phone is seemingly doing nothing. And these issues get only worse over time. The only way to solve them is to replace the mainboard, which probably isn't worth it. Looked at alibaba.com, they are around 30-40 USD. I have reflashed the stock firmware in my futile attempts to get both issues solved, but it is obviously a hardware issue.
Yeah stopped working too. I've noticed an issue with a pin in the MicroSD card slot. I imagine this is the issue. I'll open it up when I have time.
Take the card out, insert it in a PC and check it for errors. DiskGenius or MiniTool Partition Wizard can help you here. DiskGenius can also check for partition table errors.
Also make sure the card is formatted exFAT, not FAT32 or NTFS and that the cluster size is either 8K or 128K.
If that doesn't work back up your files, format as exFAT with 128K cluster size, then copy the files back. You may have to do this anyway if a partition table error is detected.
So, after reading through all the issues some of us have had on these cards..... I was feeling pretty darn good about myself, as I had none.... Well, I have since swapped to a new phone. I now have 2 micro sd cards that can not be reformatted in anyway shape or form.... I have tried (I think), just about all tricks and software. The big question that I'm unsure if anyone has asked is, does anyone think these can be locked by the Kitkat upgrade some of us did? It just strikes me a little odd that, nothing I do will allow me to clean these cards. I have a new card in, and I'm able to read and write like normal. But I'm sure there's something I'm missing. Thanks for any insight
