Downgrading WM6 - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam ROM Development

Hiya Folks
I might need to send my Hermes back as it goes to sleep and I miss calls. A lot. It also ignores calls when its switched on. Basically, it's got unreliable.
These are problems I had hoped to fix with a software upgrade but that hasn't happened.
So. I'm running Schap's WM6 Rom and I'd like to downgrade it to either a standard version of WM6 or WM5. Can anyone advise please?
Thanks
Elwyn

I guess this is the link I want.
I've downloaded it and I'll reflash tomorrow and give it a go for a week....

Hey, can you advise on what you did? I'm in need of undoing my changes to return to Orange... including downgrading from WM6!

Suggest you search and read before making a new thread on such an old topic.

It involved walking into an Orange shop and getting "upgraded" to a Tytn2.
The old unit is failing badly now. The screen whites-out, goes fuzzy and is in need of fixing. Somehow. Don't know if I can do it though

Thanks for the info. I've just looked at the guide and i'm going to try tonight - I need it in the same condition I got it for the courier tomorrow...
Cheers

What Am I Getting Into...

Hello! I'm 13 and obviously am not going to be near as knowledgable on the subject as you guys. My situation is I "accidently" cracked my screen on my Audiovox PPC4100 so I just grabbed the SX66 from cingular. Issue is I am trying to decide whether or not to upgrade my ROM to WM2005....Now Now, I do know there has been a thread about debating whether to upgrade to WM2005 because of loss of features, but mine is more of a "How bad am I going to screw this up?" debate. Do you suggest me to give it a shot? Or when a more stable version comes out, will it be an easier installation process?
Thanks in advance,
Alex

Hi Alex,
Welcome to the forum. In answer to this question, you could end up with a dead SX66 :!:
Be very, very careful.

Best build for a XDA IIs wm200se?

Ok, I'm pretty much getting to grips with my IIs...
I've already upgraded my rom to o2's 1.40242 (up and down just to practice) and I know what I'm doing in so far as editing my registry... but my machine still isn't all it could be.
I've pretty much read the forum upside down, but there are so many options to this and that scattered around in the various threads that that it would take me forever to try them all for functionality, so as opposed to asking for help, I'd like to instead call upon your collective experience.
As said I'm looking to make my machine the best it can be for a wm2003se PDA (not really looking to upgrade to wm5 because 2003 is still the most compatible os out there at the mo), so I'd like your thoughts on the best roms and radio versions based on your useage. (best being most stable and functional (heh, I really like a2dp... but I know the issues).
So... what's your advise?
Thx in advance, all suggestions most welcome (well.... the non-profane ones anyway. )
Finally... big kudos to all the devs,(pro and hobby) you all done some really stunning stuff, this is a hell of a forum. (I'd name them but I'd like to finish this post today.)
maybe you can try he system rom from this progect:
http://sx66-blueangel.home.comcast.net/
also, upgrade your radio to the latest one.
MORE options!... are you purposely trying to give me brain melt?
I might give it a try at some point when it comes out of beta... but for the moment I'm really just going for stability and functionality.
Also you mentioned the latest radio rom.. which (if I'm correct) is the 1.15 version.. but I've read that alot of people have gone back to 1.13.... ho hum.
Thx though.
Any more suggestions, people?
What about suggesting a really nice cooked rom (or baked.. whatever.)
Also any chance of giving me a reason why you would recommend a particular rom over another?
Thx.

no problem man
I'll try the upgrade to radio 1.15, and if it don't go well, i'll change to 1.13.
Anyway, also would like to try out one WM5 release, I am thinking in one clean helmi release.
Also, i've got from one portuguese forum, some interesting files that put the 2003 SE with one graphical aspect similar to wm6. (thats one of the things i'll try.
By studying all those files, maybe one day, we can compile one rom to our needs.
Sounds interesting.. but watch you don't slow your machine down to much.. that's (and compatibility issues) my main reason for not going to new with my os.. all the pretties just bog the system down.
I will try.
also, i believe those new rom's are much faster and stable than the first ones that appeared.
Hey people.. still lookin' for recommendations.

here, the only recommendations we get is this: "screw it alone, we don't like you to do questions"
but for WM2003 there aren't big recommendations. it is already one outdated platform, and all of them are with the eyes on WM5 platform.
the last system roms are based on 1.42.xxx

Szr.. I didn't see that you had replied.
The newest original rom from o2 was the 1.40.242.. I think that the 1.42 is from t-mobile.. do you know if that will work on an XDA IIs?
hi there man. my pda arrived today. i am using the system rom 1.42 and the radio 1.15. i did the upgrade today. so far so good.
in fact i am now posting this message with the blue angel.
cool.
What Pda did you get?
Glad things are going smoothly for ya... same can't be said here.
I'm having a ***** of a time trying to do anything other that transfer files or activesync when using bluetooth.... that's 6 charges I've gone through trying to get thing to work...
Ah well.. still tryin'.

good! I use t-mobile 1-42 with cooked ext rom and the pda smiles me .. until the coming of Ultimate 7150...
hi! well, now I am using helmi wm5. its more stable, btw. I dunno about my bt stack. the other rom I had, was from sx66 standardization.

wm6: worth it or not?

Hi all,
I have a question and I know people will flame but I really don't have enough time to research like I always do before I make my first post on a message board.
In this case though, I just bought a dopod 838 Pro/ Herm 100 and I will be starting a new job and will be using this phone. I have it flashed for cingular with the wm5 rom from this site and it works great!
My question is, I would like to run wm6 on this phone. Like I said I just don't really have much time to search the site and find out more about this. All I need to know is if upgrading to wm6 on this phone can be done yet using it with cingular and if it can, is it worth it?
I did find the page that has all the flashing roms on it for wm6 but I haven't had the time to figure out what each one is.
I hate to be the one to drop the noob question but because of starting my new job I need to flash it soon if I'm going to do it at all and that doesn't leave me with much time to search the boards and really read up on this.
Thanks for your help!
Ben
as you are refusing to take the time to read the f*cking wiki, you should NOT flash your device. you will brick it, then come here crying for help (or come crying for help on some other easily answered question).
until you have the time to RTFW and do the research, just keep the stock rom.

I am reading around as much as I can. I just though I'd ask the quick question for as much help as I can get. thanks for the help...
Well, it seems you have answered your own question. You don't have time to flash your phone. Reading, research and then flashing will result in success, anything else will result in a brick. From your post it appears you know how to navigate this site so I won't provide the basic links. When you have time, do your research and then flash you phone, it will be worth it.
WM6 is absolutely worth it. The latest builds from each chef are in the Wiki. I use a lvsw derivative on a TyTn and an 8525 and I couldn't even imagine going back to WM5...
That being said, be sure to flash the radio shown in my sig as it seems to work the best on Cingular networks.
Welcome to XDA-Developers btw

haha, I guess what I'm trying to ask is if wm6 is buggy or even worth it on the phone I have. If it's worth it then I will dig in and try to know enough by the weekend when I'll have time to sit down and try it.
Hmmmm.
Yes you can do the Cingular thing, a couple of roms have Cingular versions, such as Custels v2.5.
I would install Hard-SPL-V7 before you install anything else since it will protect your phone from a lot of possible problems.
It may also be worth upgrading to Radio rom version 1.38 or 1.40, 1.41. seems to be variable in its effectiveness for different folks.
Is it worth it? Yes, speed and stability are much greater, but only if you are prepared to read up and fix issues as they arrive. These roms dont come with a guarantee, and whilst the main ones I have tried (Custel, LVSW and Black) have been stable for me they have had quirks (bluetooth, wifi, etc) for other people that require you to go and seek answers if you encounter them.
If your Dopod is unstable and crashes regularly on its current rom then its probably worth your while, if you need it for your job and its already stable then I would think carefully about it.
By the way, great video series.

Oh, it is absolutely a worthwhile upgrade. Much better than WM5, and the radio that Slueth mentioned is flawless.
HAHAHA gotta love the name " Ben Dover" hahaha. In my famous saying. " Hey you, your an idiot".
All the cool kids are doing it...
Unless you work 24 hours a day every day and NEVER have any free time, then you DO have time to read-up on this stuff and that bull**** excuse you provided is worthless. You don't have to do this before you start your job. What the hell is that? You can flash it at anytime when you have it, and once you'
ve read enough about what you're doing you'll know it takes less than a hour to get it all flashed and apps re-installed. Christ. Atleast come here with a better excuse than you don't have time. I'm sorry. i don't have time to help you any further.
Can someone close or delete this crap. *sigh*
Every goddamn day the same questions from lazy individuals that want everything handed to them.
He asked a valid question. The simple answer "yes, it's worthwhile" would've sufficed. Give it a break or I start handing out bans. I'm really getting sick of this.

How is that a valid question hiden behind the fact that he used BS about not having time to read? You're getting sick of this; how about all of us that have to see the same threads day in and day out from people too lazy to read for a little? There was a thread with this same question a day ago!
How about a "yes", then lock the thread. Thread answered. He has time to post a thread, but none to read the forum?
He's researching now no doubt. It took me 30 secs to post the answer. Show me another thread with this same question plz....
seriously the aggression is unnecessary. lets all try to keep it to the witty one-liners and simple sarcasm
My answer: yes it is worth it. I use my 8525 for work all the time with wm6. However, the official rom will be out soon, and if you dont want to deal with a potential brick you might wanna hold off for that.

Read the forum like I did! lol
Really, it's not like anyones mad, it's just annoying. No one should rush into flashing, and reading this forum for a few weeks before I did ANYTHING helped keep me from posting threads like this. I saw what others said about the different ROMs. I read the guide and the wiki, then after a long thought over whether or not to attempt my first flash, I did so w/o any problems. i attribute that to taking my time to read. Sometimes the forum needs a little tough-love to get people set on the right path.
It just bothered me that he stated he didn't have time to read the forum because of work. I'm still perplexed over that one. Do they keep the phones at work? If it's not his then he shouldn't flash it anyway. If it is his, then how would "work" interfere with him taking his own personal time to flash his device? Doesn't make sense.

And his question was answered that it is a worthwhile upgrade and that he needed to do his reading first. He thanked the responders for the replies and went to go do the research. Everyone was happy. Why explode after the fact?

Just got a Cingular 8525 need help upgrading.

Ok I just bought an unlocked Cingular 8525 today. I am using it on T-Mobile. Just upgraded my account so I have the unlimited internet addon. And now someone told me I just upgrade WM5 to WM6 and gave me a link to this site. I have been reading stuff on here all day. But I am still kinda confused. I can't really find the WM6 for T-Mobile ROMs. I found This. But I don't think it is the WM6 upgrade. Could someone please point me in the right direction. Also I plan on doing the upgrade route were I put the HERMIMG.nbh on my memory card and upgrade it like that.
Thanks for any help!

start by going to the wiki..read all of that, and you should be fine.
I have read different sections of the wiki. I just bumped into something and it looks like there aren't specific ROMs that I need to look at to upgrade to WM6 is this correct? If I get one of These 11 different ones will any of them work? Thats what I think I am seeing. If I do need a specific one please let me know.
Thanks for the quick reply.

I'm assuming you are talking US T-mobile. There is no ROM dedicated for Tmob-US yet. Keep reading. Some topics to search for...HARD-SPL, Pof sim unlocker, LVSW, Schap, Sleuth, black, vp3g, ELF. There are many variants. Do your homework. Take your time. Read the wiki.
And try them!
I have tried LVSW, Sleuth, Faria, Black and Custel.
I play with each for a few hours or a few days.
No better way to see how you like it than to try it out on your device.
Jim
I smell a brick coming... dont read SOME of the WIKI read the WHOLE HERMES section.. until you completely understand what it is you need to do.

It's a good guide.
Read the wiki though, especially the 'common problems...' and 'upgrading' parts.
You don't want a brick.

It's cool. We've all been here before. I would say that the benefits of 6.1 definitely outweighed any concerns I had with flashing. I grew sick of hearing about all the advances that everyone else experienced with 6.1--while I was still using 6.0! You won't be disappointed!

yep , the bad part of flashing is reinstalling all your apps , wallpaper ,etc.
But 6.1 is worth every bit of it
