Hey All,
I drive alot for an expedite company, at times in vans and at times in Straight Trucks. Sometimes these trucks van be very loud, as as I can get bored while driving, I talk alot. Here is what I am looking for in a good bluetooth headset, lets see if all you wonderful people can point me in the right direction. Importance of an item is listed from top to bottom.
Oh, this is for an Alltel PPC6800 (Titan) so it is a bluetooth 2.0 phone i think.
1. It needs to pick up me, and not the noise of the truck or that of the road. This is a very large problem with most Bluetooth headsets I try. The ability of the headset to help block the noise around me so I can head well is also a plus.
2. Voice Quality. So often I get crackle or drop out with some headsets. and this can be with as little as 3ft to the phone, quality is a must.
3. Comfort. I currently have a Jabra over the ear headset, and after I wear it more than an hour or so it is sore in my ear. Good comfort is a must.
4. Battery Life. I talk alot when I am driving, nothing better to do, and in most states holding the phone while driving is illegal. Since there is no headset jack on this damn phone, my bluetooth is primart, thus good battery life is a must.
5. Price. Not a major issue. I have no problem spending on a headset that will do what I want. I am not rich by any means, but not afraid to spend $100+ it is really works well and will do what I want. I am not looking for the hype, I am looking for the function.
As a side note, I have no problem with bigger headsets, even full over the head ones (which in some ways I like better). Or a headset that can be a combo such as a good stereo headphone and good phone headset.
Please help me oh wondrous and great xda geeks, you are my only hope.

I have a Jawbone. It has noise cancelation technology. I think Plantronics has a similar model, it's a little cheaper.
I would assume the noise canceling works well for people hearing you, how does it do for you hearing them in a loud environment?

I'm thinking of getting a Bluetooth stereo headset, mainly for running. Any recommendations?
I am using a Motorola HT820 with pleasure.
It is very comfortable and has a good sound.
I sometimes do have a high frequency interferense, but that's not bothering me.

But you say you need it for running.
Keep in mind that the Motorola (and others) are worn horizontally on your ears.
I don't know if they keep in place when running.
I can imagine they start to lower by every step.
Never had a problem with my Motorolla HT820, plus it only cost $75. I am pretty sure Jabra's are more expensive.

Does you Motorola HT820 not produce some high pitch noise? That's what I've gathered from my research on the Internet.

I've never encountered this high pitched sound. So far, no complaints on mine.

I did encounter the high-pitch noise you mention, so much that I had to return the Motorola, which was otherwise an *awesome* product on all respects.
But I'm not so sure the problem necessarily comes from the headset... I wouldn't be surprised if it were the signal from the Universal that causes this high-frequency noise. Unfortunately, I didn't keep it long enough to try reverting back to radio ROM version 1.09 (as I use v1.11) or to try it with other bluetooth stereo sources.
They indeed are fairly heavy, though, and I'm not sure if they'd remain comfortably on the ears if used when jogging.
Besides, as they have a closed design, it is potentially dangerous to wear them in urban areas, for instance.
My HT820s don't have a high pitch noise either. I paid full US retail for mine, $129.99 @ Radioshack because they were the only ones in town that had them in stock and I do not trust Ebay with Motorola products. Half of them are knock offs :lol:
I really like my HT820s, they sound pretty good, comfy for a 2-hour period or so, and battery life is superb.
I bought O2 exec while ago and been using it daily. such a wonderful device, it answered to every demands that my business required. Love to have a wireless headset to listen to music so I just bought blueant X5 bluetooth headset. One word, WOW, sound is so clear and it does have a good bass response. Compare this with Moto HT820, I think it does have better quality. Picked it up at 155 AUD at landmark Computer shop ( RRP is 199 AUD).
Advantage
1. Good bass response
2. Accessories bundle in one package
( including audio streamer device which I find the most advantageous compare to others products )
3. Long lasting batteries ( I was playing music non-stop for 11 hours and there is still some left in batteries that I think it can go over 12 hours without any problem )
4. Quite good user manual ( even my girlfriend can follow its instruction to setup )
I didn't have problem with high pitch noise when it is near my computer or other mobile phone.
155 AUD is also the cheapest price I can find. you need to do a bit of bargain cuz they ask for 165 Aud.

I have a Jabra BT620s and it's working great. The sound is awsome (phone and MP3) and A2DP is no problem at all.
Batterylife is very good (+/- 12 hrs on one charge)
Buttons on the headset for phone and mediaplayer.
Sound is very good (no weird noise or high pitched things )
And had good reception, I can carry my 9000 in my pocket, without hickups or lags.
Just one weird thing though, if you use the headset, and pickup an incomming call with the button on the phone... the sound goes through the normal internal speaker on the 9000 and NOT the headset :S But if you use the headset button, no problems

You can charge the headset via USB! And it can work as a headset on a computer via the USB cable.
because in order to get it, I had to cut the original earbuds off...
How did I get to do this? (either read the story or jump to the end.... )
I had first tried out the Sony Ericsson HBH-DS970 and found out that it was not enough compatible with the HTC Universal (e.g.: after a call it would not continue to tranmit the music stream)
I then tried the HS-12W. All important features are supported, just ID-Tags are not transmitted nore is the name of the caller (but the number is).
On top of it it has a RDS-FM radio built-in...and looks good too...I decided I wanted to keep it.
Only problem: I could hardly understand anything....the original earbuds had a shape/size that just sat so strangely in my ear that the front was not exposed to the inner ear but rather covered so that the sound level was just too low.
Since I am one of these guys who do not give up easily when they are convinced of an idea, I was looking for a solution to the problem.
I remembered an enhancement item for the original ipod earbuds: I bought a couple of Griffin Ear Jams. I cut them in a shape to fit the Nokia buds and glued them to the rubberborder of the ear buds. Not bad at all. It was loud and had much more bass than before.
It did not maybe look supergreat with these white add ons, and frankly, the more I was listening, I found the sound to be lacking treble and somewhat sounded like from under a pillow. My personal belief is that the original earbuds are lacking treble in order to reduce the transmission of some white noise caused by the BT connection...and with the Ear Jams in place that enhanced the bass the pillow sound was perfect. It was really not bad at all, but as I said, with the time I noticed it more and more...
Before buying the Nokia, I had used Sennheiser CX-300 headphones when listening to music. An excellent value for money, it rivals easily headsets of double the price.
Now, all of a sudden. with the Nokia, I had no use for the Sennheiser anymore.... It was just laying there, on the board, getting dusty.....
should I never ever be using it anymore? Such a good pair of headphones...if only the Nokia had better earbuds...

Yes, i did it: I cut the original earbuds from the Nokia, freed the Sennheisers from it's cables...and transplanted them onto the Nokia HS-12W....

where did you cut it? just near to the earbuds or at the connection to the neck? (the other end of the cable)?
My problem is with the Universal + HS12W combo is that its SOOOOOO stuttering :evil: . If its on me, the Uni is in my hand, it can stutter... it can always stutter... I ask: why?? Maybe it's not because of the reception quality because at home I can move to the other room and it doesn't loose the connection just the stuttering factor rises... Is it the bandwidth or lacking CPU?
I'm starting to think about throwing it to the wall...
other con: radio sensitivity is very BAD.
I cut them somewhere in beteen the earbud and the microphone so i did not lose the speaking function. (sennheiser is only headphone).
i agree with the suttering issue. i tend to believe that it is more the pda side..bad antenna construction..but at the end who cares if it does not work...i must say the way i am using the combo i can live with the shortcomings. i also feel the stuttering increases with the transferred bitrate.
as far as the fm reception is concerned: i am not unhappy with the quality, obviously it is n ot noise free most of the time, but i get my main stations in a reasonable manner, i find. (and then most of the time i am listening to internet radio streams..i am on a 5GB plan...

I can agree with the bad radio construction on the uni side.. This was mentioned in an other topic too I think . It's good you have 5GB plan.. we have only 200MB for a reasonable price.
How do you control the bitrate between the devices? Does the mentioned registry setting (hklm\sw\ms\bluetooth\a2db\setting) working? I've started to play with it, but originally, this key hasn't existed.
i was thinking about the lifetime of this device, because of the battery (not replaceable)by user, and the fixed headphones... looking ath the price of that headset i don't want to throw it away after just one year..

re. bitrate control I cannot comment. I just meant to notice that with higher bitrate e.g. different quality of radio streams, the connection is more sensitive since the buffer holds less seconds of sounds.
I only have a problem if i use the universal in the rear pocket of my pants. the body is a real obstacle for bluetooth waves, it seems. not very elegant, but it works: if you hang the display over your shoulder so it hangs down on your back, there is no stuttering if the htc is in the rear pocket....(at least in my case).
There is a screw at the back of the device...no I have not opened it yet...lol...but I would guess one can have access to the battery easily, the question is only where to get a new one from... :?
(Between you and me: gadget freek that I am, I would be surprised if I still have it in one year....but who knows...I really like it...)
Exchanging against the Sennheisers for me was a great solution, the sound has improved so much, I did not expect it, I must say.
I have to admit: I love to adapt things to my needs....
There are headsets where you can use the headphones of your choice, but I think in this case the mic must be in the device itself, so it will be quite far away from your mouth..or maybe it could have a mic on a cable that you have to clip somewhere high on the shirt..I don't know how good this is supposed to work or how convenient it can be...
After a long search for the perfect BT stereo headset for my 8125, I've found it.
The Plantronics Voyager 855.
Over the past couple of years, I've had the opportunity to try a number of BT stereo options, from Motorola, Sony Ericsson and some lesser known companies like Sonorix and i-Clip, amongst others.
I was never quite happy with any of them though.
I take the subway to work, and every set of Motorola headset I tried would lose it's pairing to the phone whenever I either lost the cell signal, or regained it (which meant re-pairing 4 times a day). This also happend with non-stereo Motorola when working in conjunction with BTToggle.
The i-Clips actually functioned alright although the stereo quality was only so-so. For answering the phone, the sound quality was really poor unless I held that big clip close to my mouth, and cupped it if I was outside (even if it wasn't really windy).
The Sonorix, though cool because it allowed me to use my own headphones with it's jack, would need to be re-paired every 3 days or so. I don't know why. I was wondering if it was my phone, even though I had flashed to a ROM that everyone else enjoys.
The Sony earbuds sounded good, and functioned great (the only set who's audio controls functioned flawlessly to this point). Having the dangly stick and extra wires made me wonder why I'm bothering with bluetooth at all, though. Wearing a pendant with to earbud extensions running out of it wasn't as practical or cool as the promo material made it out to be.
In short, no bluetooth stereo headset quite met my criteria... either functionality wise, or form factor.
Until I tried the Plantronics Voyager last month.
It's design is perfect for my needs. It's a typical in ear BT headset, with a clip on ear hook. What makes it cool is the clip on ear hook is the connection to the second earbud (and the cord is braided to be more durable).
The sound quality is right up there with the best of the bunch.
I've not run into any re-pairing issues.
The slide out boom works flawlessly for answering/hanging up calls and all the controls work as they should (only the Sony matched that previously).
6hrs of stereo seemed a fair assessment for battery life from my tests.
The Plantronics comes with a good selection of ear buds (small, medium and large as well as the foam type that mold to your ear canal shape), as well as a couple of optional ear clips if you don't want the stereo dangler.
To conserve battery, I often just use BTToggle to get mono audio (out of both sides) when I'm listening to podcasts. It's definitely a hit on audio quality, but that's okay when it's just talking heads.
The only place where Plantronics loses marks is it's charging situation. Though they can be charged from a USB cable from a computer, Plantronics opted for a slightly different connector than a typical mini-USB one, even though there's plenty of space for one.
Of course the old Wizard barely manages to keep up if I'm running Core Player to watch a DivX vid and streaming BT stereo. If a call comes in, it's slowdown time. Then again, I'm usually watching the vids on the subway, so that rarely comes into play.
In short, I finally found the perfect BT stereo headset for me, and just wanted to share. They're discreet, multifunctional and just reek of quality (the braided cord made the difference in keeping them).
PS: I wanted to try out the Jabra 8010 but couldn't find them locally. The Jabra headset has call-display, and apparently a vibrate feature, so if anyone's tried them, I'd be curious to hear about their performance.

I currently have a 1 ear Samsung bluetooth headset, but it is inadequate for anything but phone calls.
I would like a bluetooth headset that is for both ears so that I can listen to music and especially podcasts without having to use the standard headset. I would also expect it to have a built in microphone.
I know the bluetooth in the HTC S620/S621 is not the newest available so I also don't want to aimlessly buy a headset and find out it isn't compatible with my phone.
Any suggestions on what I should buy?

I use Sony Ericsson HBH-DS970 Bluetooth headset. I love 'em.
I like my Motorola S9. They got good sound and decent base for lil speakers. They never fall out. They have the following buttons; answer/hang up call, volume up and down, track forward/back (hold for fast forward/rewind), and play/pause. When consider sound quality, I like my music loud with a lot of base and why I have a 1000watt system in my car. Sure they are no where near that, but they make a good alternative for when listening to music on my cell. Plus I can walk like 100ft away from my cell before they loose connection. In my old 2 bedroom house I could walk around my whole house and nevr have my cell on me. Another plus, they use the same charger plug as the Dash (Mini-USB).

I decided to go with the Motorola S9. Some of the reviews at Amazon did make me hesitate a bit though.
I primarily use my phone for email, web browsing, music, and podcasts more so than talking. And from most of the Amazon reviews, many were not happy with the sound quality of the S9 during phone conversations.
The jabra option didn't seem to fare much better in that regards and was bigger.
On the plantronics 855 option, many stated it was great in sound quality for phone calls but was inferior to the Motorola for music and podcasts.
I didn't really look into the Sony option listed here though due to the price. It was one of the more expensive ones.
So anyways, this is now on my Amazon wish list to make Christmas shopping for my wife easier.
Glad to be of help and as for incall sound quality. I never had a complaint, been on the phone for hours on end with this thing and a lot better then having a cell against my head all the time lol. I hate being on the phone honestly but this headset made it a lot more tolerable. Actually just bought a USB Bluetooth Adapter for my pc to link these to it for music etc at night when people complain about loud music lol. Especially with that joggr volume issue on the Dash lol. you could always google search "SE MW600 review" and see what people say. And if you want end users try punching in "amazon SE MW600 review" and see what they are saying.
Personally i use an older Motorola ear bud that serves the purpose.

I Work At best buy and I'm using the Plantronics 975 its a great device very comfortable with great noise cancellation
plantronics 855 is a great headset. a2dp stereo bluetooth and a removable earpiece.
I've been using mine with a Jawbone Icon (Rogue) and I haven't had any issues. It's light, stylish and very functional.
I don't know if these are the "best" but I have the Motorola behind the neck ROKRs, and like them.

I also work for t-mobile and I've used bluetooth headsets ranging from 29.99 to 199.99, some of them I thought were amazing (motorola backbeats) but the problem always came down to whoever I was talking on the phone saying
"dude are you on bluetoooth?"
me: yes
"you sound like sh*t"
me: YARGGGGG HOW MUCH MONEY DO I HAVE TO SPEND TO SOUND DECENT
Many beg to differ, but I've owned the same pair of rocketfish headsets for almost two years now...very good to me with many sweaty head days at the gym.

I know this is a late reply but I thought I would throw in my 2 cents on the topic.
I was looking for something to listen to music while at work (desk job), working out, etc.
I ended up buying the Motorola S305 from Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002BH3I9U)
I have had these now since February and I am extremely happy with them.

Phone headset is has good call quality. Others can hear me as if i'm on the handset

Overall, for $35.00, you can't go wrong!
Plantronics seems to be the winner. I have both 925 and 975. Both are optimal and work fantastically.
Now my 925 is paired with my HD2, and the 975 with MT4G.
Are any of these recommended for both phone calls and for working out (sweat resistant)? I'm just mainly looking for headphones for working out minus the dang cord. Also if I get a phone call when I'm working out or shooting basketball, I wanna be able to answer without stopping.

I've owned the Plantronics BackBeat 906 for almost a year and have had mixed results with both a G1 and a MT4G.
It can be so comfortable that I forget I'm wearing it. But sometimes the earbuds are loose, mostly when worn under bicycle helmet straps. Because it's loose, I can't hear music very well.
Audio sounds great. Convenient controls. Haven't figured out how to skip a song on Pandora or a podcast on Listen though. Clicking play sometimes starts a saved voicemail rather than Google Listen or Pandora. I'm not sure how to define the "default" media app in Android.
Paring is hit-or-miss. Often it pairs with just the phone audio and not the media audio. This happened more on the T-Mobile ROM than it does on Cyanogenmod 7, but still happens. The solution is a cumbersome opening of the BT settings, long-press the device, un-check and then re-check Media Audio.
Reception is good if the phone is within 20-30 feet (the advertised range.) Reception is horrible if the phone is in a pocket. I have a backpack with a very high pocket and that usually works, unless I turn my head to the left. It is VERY annoying.
Here's what I sent to Panasonic:
I own a G1 Android-powered phone and about 50% of the time when I turn on my BackBeat 906 it syncs with the phone audio, but not the media. Is there some trick to get it to sync with both?
Also, the reception is so poor that when the phone is in my pocket the audio drops out completely. I am tall, but much less than 30' tall.

Please try a reset...press and hold the power button on the headphones....and while you are doing that, please connect the charger to the Backbeats until you see a blue or red solid light and then release the button.....let it charge for an extra 30 seconds and then try to use them
Also, delete the headset from your cell phone's list of paired devices. Once deleted, make sure to power your phone completely off. Then power it back on. (This will reset the Bluetooth stack in the BT software on the phone). Then re-pair the headset with your phone.
If this does not fix your issue, my suggestion is to try pairing the headset to another cell phone, if possible. If the issue continues with the second phone, you will need to replace the headset. If your headset connects properly to the second phone, then the problem may be with the first phone rather than the headset.

Yes Rosebud1, it is extremely frustrating! It's fine sitting on a desk, but for cycling, running, or walking I would not recommend this headset.

Yeah, it was a pretty useless response. I suspect it's just a horrid design flaw that they know they can't fix, so sending the customer on a wild goose-chase delays the inevitable.
U should check out the jabra clipper. I use it when I work out n its awesome
