PIM Backup - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

Greetings,
I just have a problem when I change the ROM on my Prophet PDA. I have made a backup of my PDA before changing the ROM using PIM Backup program. After I installed the new ROM and restore the backup, the messages (SMS) don't get restored and I guess that's because there is a different between SMS folder name in the old and new ROM. Newer ROM folder called "SMS / MMS" and the older one is called "Text Messages".
Any suggestion to resolve that?
Thanks,
Lumina2000

Check the official PIM Backup thread here. I'm sure you will get help there.

RE
Hi the_erk!
But thats for smartphone only.
I think Sprite Backup may be able to do the job, here:-
http://www.spritesoftware.com/products/sprite_backup_premium.html
provided you know where the sms are stored
Try Sprite backup..
you can backup EVERYTHING, and restore selectively.
this includes mail, sms, settings, contacts, as well call list and such..
hope that helps..
RE
Hi AntiProxy,
Can you do selective backup instead of everything using Sprite Backup?
Thanks
You could also use Jeyo mobile companion or outlook add-in, available here:
http://www.pocketgear.com/software_detail.asp?id=14070
http://www.pocketgear.com/software_detail.asp?id=14071
These allow you to manipulate and send SMS messages on your device, including copying them to your PC.

yup, you can choose to backup any of the following separately:
file system, Personal databases, mail, System Data
under File System, you may choose to backup individual paths
under Personal databases, you may choose any of the following individual DBs: Phone (Speed dials, Call logs), Categories, Contacts, Tasks, Appointments
under System data, you may choose any of the following:
Other Databases, File System, Registry.
so in short, yeah, you can backup anything and everything
i personally have it autorun at midnight taking a full backup onto the SD card, with 2 last backups retension..
i know it'll come in handy one day
with the generated backup files being self-contained executables, you can recover from a hard reset without a host computer
Try Jeyo
one of the BEST SMS utitlities for SMSing that I have used so far is the Jeyo Mobile Extender.
It allows you to backup all of your SMSes into the Outlook folders on your PC.
You can even send SMSes from the PC if your PDA is sync-ed.
It doesn't have the option of sending your smses back to the PDA though.
Check it out at www.jeyo.com
It didn't seem to work with my XDA, but worked just fine with the IIs.

just to tell you, you can't backup subfolders of your sms
ie if you created any subfolders in the sms tree, jeyo doesn't back them up.

Sorry for being off-topic, but I have searched and searched to my wit's end. Do you plan to have a version of SMS Organizer for the smartphone?

xBackup WM5

I have just updated my BlueAngel to WM5 but wish to copy my contacts across. I have backed up via xbackup within Pocket PC 2003.
But noticed there is no xBackup within WM5
Also just wanting to know if there is a more modem Bluetooth Software for this WM5.
Another thing is I noticed that I don't have ExtROM Version: (nothing). Is this correct?
Regards
Scott
When you install wm2005 you format you EXTROM because you no longer need it. And xBackup isnt for WM2005 but there is this program I uploaded on zevink.com called "SunnySoft Backup" in downloads/useful apps, skim through and download it, it lets you backup your system in WM2005!
Will "SunnySoft Backup" allow you to restore "Contacts" back from xBackup?
Look at this... If you want to backup your Contacts, Appointments and Task try this link
http://www.buzzdev.net/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=48&Itemid=41
And if you want to backup your sms try "dopod SMS Backup or SunnySoft Backup Manager"
SunnySoft will get everything but contacts, calander, tasks, and stuff in that nature, it gets your registery, your applications, your data, your files etc.

Help Required for PIM restoration

Hi guys,
I am urgently seeking a help.
After upgrading/flashing to PDAMobiz_Dopod_P800W_AKU301_v1.1.2_PowerMap ROM, I am unable to restore PIM (contacts and calendar) information. I use Spb Backup for backing up. Though I was able to restore E-Mail (e-mail + SMS) from the same file. If I try to restore PIM info, I get some db error message and on top of that even cellular network is unavailable.
It seems that there is some difference in db structure for AKU 3.0 and 3.0.1 featured in the above ROM. I did though try to launch the file on my older WM2k3SE device but with no luck.
The issue is that I do not even have all the contacts and calendar on my Outlook (on the desktop), and as you can guess I am sitting empty with hundreds on contacts and calendar items lying in the backup file.
1. Is there anyone here to whom I can send the backup .exe file (created using Spb Backup app), so that he can launch it on his Artemis and then sync with clean Outlook and then export 2 files in .pst format (one for contacts and the other for calendar)
2. Or is there any other way to recover this information from the backup file that I have.
Someones assistance is required, as I am stuck. I will be highly thankful for any help.
The problem has been resolved thanks to user RAMBO29 here.
Well, few other gave me some tips as well .... tnx to them, too.

Calendar error (impossible to use it)

Hello evrybody,
First I want to congratulate Tom and forum users for the greate job that they did.
And I have a question.
Before installing the WM6 rom I made a backup of my contacts with SpbBackup.
After installing WM6 rom, I used the ".exe" backup to restore my contacts, ant it works fine.
But now I can't use Task and Calendar, it tells me that :
"The database for this application has been deleted or is corrupted. Restore the database from a backup."
I think that spbbackup did something wrong (mabie compatibilituy problem for this database between WM5 and WM6)
So my question is : Do anyone have an idea of how I can restore this database.
Thanks,
Pierro
SOLVED
Finally,
I made a new backup with PIMBackup, and install again the rom, and restore my contacts, and the calendar is ok now.

[Q] Stock 2.2 -> CM7, titanium didn't restore half my contacts and texts

I upgraded from 2.2 stock to CM7 and I only have half my contacts (maybe just the just my google ones) and none of my SMS texts even though I did full backup/restore of all user and system apps.
I've seen a suggestion to use SMS Backup+ for the texts (donno what to use for my contacts), but I'm not sure how to get that info out of my nandroid backup.
So my questions are:
What can I do to backup contacts?
Do I have to revert to my nandroid backup of my stock rom and then go BACK to CM7? How do I do this? Couldn't I just restore the nandroid to my android SDK instead of flashing my phone twice more?
Thanks
Titanium backup cant backup text messages. You can download an app called sms backup and restore to do it. It creates an. Xml file on your sdcard. When you want to restore your text just download the app on the new rom and restore the. Xml file. Contacts are backed up through google. When you create a contact its best to choose the "google" option to create it under and not phone. That way their backed up to your email account. NEVER backup and restore system data in titanium backup. Only backup and restore all user apps.
Obi Wan, your my only hope!
Those are good tips for the future (and I will do that in the future) but they don't really help my present situation.
How do I rescue my contacts that I didn't save to google and my text messages from my Nandroid backup of my stock install? Can I load the nandroid backup in android-sdk? Is there a specific place in the nandroid back up files I can look for those things? Or do I have to restore it to my phone? and if so, how do I do this? Won't I have to revert to the stock kernel first? How do I do this?

Oh yea, easiest way is to restore your nandroid backup. Then you can do those things I told you for the sms. The phone contacts should be backed up to google, but you may have created some under phone. Go into your contacts and backup your phone contacts to a . Xml file also I believe. Then you can flash your new setup and restore your text with the program I recommended. Your google contacts should load when u sign into your gmail account. Then restore the phone contacts. Xml file in your new Rom and all of your contacts should be there.

Titanium does in fact back up text messages. You can try and restore your contacts and texts a second time in cm7 if you just select the individual backups to restore in titanium instead of restoring all backups. Contacts and sms are backed up and are highlighted green. Look for backups starting with [Contacts..] and [SMS...]. You might try changing the settings in titianium to "migrate system data" this might help.
I would suggest using lookout security for your contact backup. It is also good for protecting against malware and whatnot. The backup feature is fantastic though, I use it a lot (I flash a lot )
