Hi all,
I recently received an O2 XDA Orbit. The Orbit works fine, except that sometimes on doing a soft reset it will hang at the green "Windows Mobile 5.0" welcome screen.
I have left it for periods of time in excess of 30 minutes, and eventually the XDA becomes completely unresponsive (backlight doesn't come on when pressing buttons etc). On doing a consecutive reset, it does exactly the same thing. The only way to resolve it is to do a complete hard reset.
This initially happened when using Sprite Backup. Before doing a backup the program resets the device, and this exact same thing happened. I thought it would be to do with the software, however i have not installed Sprite since but i am getting the same symptoms.
A relative of mine got an Orbit at the same time and hers is having the same problems, yet another relative received one a few months before and his is fine.
I was wondering if anyone else is having this problem, or if anyone can suggest a remedy for it?
I got my orbit too recently but it did not freeze at startup but a white screen flashed up for a few secs. I did a hard reset and then before the o2 extras get installed - a\3 sec countdown will appear on the screen do a quick softreset - stylus in the soft reset hole.
I reckon that will solve your problem as its prob due to the o2 extras.

Was it plugged in when it hung?
It happens both when it is plugged in to my laptop, and when it isn't connected to anything at all.
Need help...after 7 months of trouble free use my Orbit has suddenly died. It basically started last week where the phone would for no reason at all soft reset itself. After it booted up the clock would go back to its original setting back in 2006 & had to be adjusted again. The soft reset would happen without any pattern e.g. when I push the talk button when call comes through, when I try to open a program or even just pressing a button to wake it up from standby.
Anyway yesterday it did the same thing but this time it boots up to the O2 splash screen i.e. the blue screen with the picture of the glass building, & then just remains there with the backlight still on. I've resorted to a hard reset but again it will only boot up to the blue screen.
Any ideas?

Okay, so i tried it with bootloader mode and flash the rom, the same ****..., try the original TMO WM5 Rom, nothing changes... Now he show me the TMO bootscreen for more than 5 hours and backlight is also active all the time...

Hey all,
My friend dropped his P3300 some days ago and it started behaving wierdly. It was freezing when it ran TOMTOM and some times froze at the HTC screen during a soft reset.
After a few days , it froze completely at the HTC screen and never came back on again. Not even the charging indicator LED works.
Any ideas and recommendations?
Does it enter Bootloader mode atleast? If yes, then try flashing a new ROM..
Regards,
Carty..
Thanx Carty.
the boot loader comes on and off... it switches off when the outer case moves.. So I guess we have to send it for a repair.
Hello,
I have a strange problem with my HTC Artemis (O2 XDA branded, bought in Germany, no lock)
It behaves unstable and indeterministic.
Unstable means that it crashes/stucks or turns off.
Indeterministic means that it happens when i plugg it to charger, when i'm syncing, when a phone rings, when using applications/tomtom or just i arrive to work and i find the device off.
When it crashes or i find it off, the biggest problem is to boot the device. It takes me typically 10mins, when i'm always trying to press the power button, push the reset button or unplugg the battery for a while in random order until i bring it to work.
After first crach, the device also often crashes or stucks again during the boot process.
Once, the device was so dead, that it took me two days to bring it into bootloader mode and then i could at least flash the ROM.
All these was happening with ARTEMIS TOUCH 4.01 WWE - LITE NO CUBE.
Yesterday, i switched to ARTEMIS TOUCH 4.02 WWE - LITE NO CUBE (burned FW twice) without installing any other applications and the problems are still here
My personal feeling is that it is getting every week worser.
When i bought the device (eBay), there was original FW with Win Mobile 5 on it, i immediately flashed to ARTEMIS TOUCH 3.01(?) WWE - FULL WITH CUBE, i can only remember that that time I had a problem with gsm radio - from time to time i found it stucked/off - to bring it to work i had to reset the device. So i flashed to 4.01 and this issue was away, but approx 2months ago, the above described behaviour has started and nowdays i'm fighting with it 2-3x a day.
so, can anybody help?
GiZMo

I have a similar problem, what's really strange to me is, that as far as i can recall it started happening 2 months ago or so also!! weird huh...
my device simply reboots from time to time! even while i'm making a call.
the weird thing about these reboots is that when it comes back to live i do not have to enter my pin to enable the phone! everytime i perform a manual reboot (by software, using the pin or remove battery) i have to insert my pin to able to make a call...
i have upgraded from 3.01 full touch to 4.02 full touch about the time it started, i have now 4.02 vanilla touch but problem still occurs from time to time.
any ideas?
Im another one to join this boat!
Bought an MDA C 3, two days ago, bought of someone from gumtree.com.
Worked fine for the first hour, and then locked up - nothing on the screen, no LED. Only way to get it going was to remove battery and then press power button.
I upgraded the ROM from the original t-mob UK WM5 to mechles fine release: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=371182
The lock-ups / crashes have now become rarer, on average every 4 hours (before was every 1 hour).
There is no pattern to them either, although I have saw the screen trun all corrupted just before it happens. The last one was caused when I pressed the 'start' button.
I'm on a T-Mob contract, and lost my Kaiser, got ripped of when I tryed to replace it by a tosser on here for $375 Thief on the loose thread, and was hoping my luck had changed when I bought this one!!
It is T-mob branded and I wonder if there isn't a fix on here, would T-Mob repair it under warranty??
same "issue" with no entering of PIN after reboot. But not always

here i found a good description of that issue:

I have been using this rom for a while and sometimes, without any visual warning the phone freezes up. This is particularly ennoying because there is no way to check wether it is working or not. Every other function or software keeps working ! The phone is just not receiving any calls or sms. So you can miss an entire day of calls and sms without knowing... Only when trying to call somebody the dialer says 'Dialing...' and nothing happens. No connection.
A soft reset is needed to get the phone working again.
"
btw, now i'm again trying to turn the device on, it's again stuck. grrr
Hello,
i had a few weeks ago a similar strange behaviour.
After changing the sd-card I had problems to turn the device on. After a hard reset it began to boot but hang.
The I flashed back to original O2 ROM. Then I had a unpredictable behaviour. Somtimes no sound. Sometimes I cound not be called. Sometimes Error message "no sim card". After every reset i had an other error.
Hard reset and flashing was no solution. Removing battery for less than 4 hours has no effect.
Then I wanted to send it back for repair. I took of the battery. The next day I wanted to try a last time and surprise: The device works fine without an error. Its hard to believe, but the removal of the battery for more than 8 hours was the solution.
Now I use it for 5 weeks without a problem.
regards
Andre
It is Happening to my device too!!
It stucks every 2-3 hours!Tried many of the cooked ROMs but nothing. Also tried all the radio roms for 1-2 days.still the same!
It stucks with no particular reason.SOmetimes in s2u2 sometimes when am receiving a call.... etc.
Had the pin problem too for 3-4 times!
I will try your sugestion ANDRE and we will see!
Also i will try flashing the original rom,cid unlock and then flash the cood rom twice!
Fingers crosed....

happy u
now, i will try to flash back original german o2 rom
I think mine is sorted now, thanks to a new battery.
Installed it on Wednesday and hasn't died/crashed once since then.
I did notice before that the battery was getting warm, and I stuck the handset on the vent of my AC in the car, and this seemed to make the phone more stable.
Got one from Deal Extreme or try the XDA shop.
It worked for me!!
bricked or not?
did my device get bricked?
last friday i wanted to change firmware and during step1-cid unlocking (device should never been cid locked) pda got stucked. So i unplugged it and since then i cannot turn it on or get it into bootloader mode.
the only proof of life is when I take away battery and plugg it to power supply, then the red diod turns on and off for 1/2sec.
any idea what to do?

the good sign are the leds that means you have a very good chance...the guy made the piont...check the wiki
random crashes are often caused by hardware malfunction...sometimes the connection on the motherboard stuck, get broken or make a short-circuit...so check the hardware
Hi, I have a problem with my XDA Orbit. It works fine for some period of time and then starts hanging up. Usually before the phone hangs, the batery status on the today screen dissapears. I have tried hard reset and different ROM instalation. After a new ROM is installed it works fine for a day or two and then starts hanging. After a soft reset works for 1-2 hours. Sometimes needs several soft recets to start. Any ideas? I was suspecting a faulty phone, but after a ROM update it works so fine!!!
P.S. I have tested several ROMs but never tried to go back to the original one.
Hi
How much memory do you have before the phone crashes.
Are you changing any of the advanced settings for the file system and glyph caches. Both of these will use up alot of memory and would causes phone chrashes similar to what you have.
have you tried Toms new oops Black v1.0 on a 4mb page pool. This alone would give you a little over 1/2 memory free and then in the advanced settings making sure that the caches are set to file as 4mb and glyph to either 16 or 32k
Cheers Dave

i found that the original rom had issue with o2's today plugin
soon as i disabled it the freezing and error messages stopped
I had the same problem with my origonal XDA, I returned it to O2 and they eventually gave me a new one, I think i killed the old one from over use haha
i had the same problems, my phone died today.
having the same problems changed rom loads of time but it will work for a while the the phone stops working followed by a white screen. i think my babe might bedead
Unfortunatelly it seems to be a hardware problem. I have tried all software reccomendations. Nothing works for more than a few hours. Then crashes again.

I thought the same...take the bugger back to where you got it from and get it replaced for a new one!
O2 did have two versions of this device, i only just noticed this but my first Orbit had a white tracker ball that glowed blue, about 3 months later i dropped it in a bath and got it replaced, only this one had a jet back tracker ball, i dont have version numbers or anything but it has changed at least once on the hardware side
you think battery status blew your processor/mainboard? you can't disable batterystatus? or put it back to original speed: 201 mhz?
what speed were you running? i'm running 247 mhz constantly.
good luck.
Orbit problems
Sounds like it could be your motherboard. I had a similar problem with my un-modded orbit where it would hang and stick sometimes as receiving a call and would constantly vibrate until I took the battery out as I couldnt turn it off it eventually died O2 repaired it under warranty. Sorry this post is a while after yours but hope its helpfull.
O2 hanging with white screen
Has any solution came up within last few days for 'O2 hanging with white screen' problem.
My phone recently started behaving like this.
Please help as phone is out of warranty now and cant claim the new set or something like that.
