Upgrade with a few problems.... - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam ROM Development

Hi Folks
My Hermes/Tytn is an Orange M3100. Recently it has begun dropping calls, or rather, ignoring them. The caller could hear a ringing tone but the phone wouldn't switch on, show me an incomming call or anything. A short while later, usually after I'd switched it on (I mean, the screen, "off" is that it's on standby) I'd get the notification of a missed call. More often than not it would come through after I had made a call.
This reached a "point" on the weekend where I missed about 17 calls from the Agency to get work for me as I was the only one available
So. I upgraded as reccomended on here. Up to HardSPL 2.10, Radio version 1.41 and then upgraded to Schaps 4.22 WM6 Rom.
Now, I made sure that ActiveSync has connected and synchronised, and all my contacts and PIM info is in Outlook. However, A/S won't transmit the information to the PDA, even though it tells me it's synchronising.
The only way I have managed to get my PIM data/address book back onto the PDA was by running a custom SPB backup file to restore the calender, sms and phonebook.
This is where the fun starts. My PIM and Tasks then go "read only" merely by having a warning telling me I have no memory and to go and close other programs down. But there isn't anything else running!
Fine. Right. Ok. Obviously I've done something wrong. I did a hard reset this evening. It wiped all the data internally and reset it. I changed the details to match the username that was already stored in A/S and plugged it in.
It tells me "Connecting" and the green thing swirls around but doesn't actually do anything.
I have heard mention of the MTTY software, so I've got that here. But it won't allow me to connect on USB, only Com1, 2 or 3.
So I've a pretty useless phone at the moment. It's got none of my files on there, the satnav is rendered useless merely because I can't install the sod and all the other problems to go with it.
Short of screaming abuse at it and throwing it across the room I'm a bit stuffed. And I can't spend anymore time on it as I've got to be getting up for work at 4am (only finished tonight at 8pm ) for another full day
I've read the wiki, I've gone through the pages and pages and, er, pages of posts but I'm hitting a brick wall somewhere. I'm not as bright as you guys, but I get by.
TIA. Elwyn

Try disabling the enhanced feature in your usb to pc settings on the device. Also try removing and reinstalling activesync, I have to do mine roughly once every fortnight or so and I'm on the latest build of AS4.5

This has now improved, with most calls going through. Possibly only the Radio upgrade was necessary, but, hey, I've done it now

This had actually been fully backed up. Apparently.

The drawback I had was A/S wasn't telling me it was done, or that it was doing anything. I still don't know how to fix that if it happens again

Ok, as the first reply said, YES. The USB advanced thingy was checked. Once that was sorted then it sync'd. I still couldn't write to the PIM/Messaging/Phonebook but I could get it backed up. Once that was done I did a hard reset, then before I plugged the "fresh" install into the computer I set up the variety of settings (machine name, usb advanced, name etc) THEN plugged it in. System recognised it, and then proceeeded to "restore" the relevant details of my PIM/Addressbook/Messages.
I think the restore from SPB was being written to a part of the memory that it wasn't supposed to. Either way, I've stopped using SPB Backup now.
The phone works well. I've even got all the SatNav software installed and working on it. The installation from the memory card didn't take that long, once it was working propperly. Which was good as I did all of that "out on the road" away from the computer (I was in the passsenger seat then).
The only issue I have noticed now is that the battery seems to go quick...
Anyway, thank you for your help. I can now go and have some xmas shopping to relax with....
Cheers
Elwyn

Glad to hear you got it working, for backing up your contacts, messages etc I'd recommend PPCPimBackup, if you do a google you should be able to find it easy enough.
Have a good Christmas.

TMobile WM2003 Upgrade Issues

I was wondering if anyone else was having the following issues with the new T-Mobile upgrade, and if anyone had any ideas on how to resolve them:
* The phone turns on sporadically when it is in my pocket. I think this normally happens when it tries to connect to GPRS
* The phone doesn't give me notification of my voice mail all the time
Thanks,
Dan
http://envoisolutions.com/people/dan
I'm seeing #1. In my case it looks like it's every time that the Inbox checks the email. Beta Version 4.00.16 didn't do this (so I might go back).
I had #2 occasionally even with PPC2002. Do you go in and out of coverage areas? This can cause problems, I think.
tmo never fails....
the ghost affect was an issue with the previous tmo betas...but it was not a prblm with att's latest rom
I have a different issue with my newly upgraded rom from tmo:
everything works fine
...except
wen i press the power button to turn the xda back on, it wont do anything at all
the button works to turn back light off, and to turn the unit off, but not back on
Im about to try with sum other Roms, but has any one eperienced this issue, or might know what might be causing it? (additional soft)?
Memory Leak
I have a memory leak that I can not trace. I have a cooked TMO .16 release radditionally running MS Voice, SharpDeck Sharp Vault, Pocket Streets, Cadenza mNotes.
I slowly but steadilt lose memory unitl I have none left and now have none left.
I am going back to the ATT version (but cooked)

I had to restart my computer to solve this... Sometimes, you need to restart the XDA also.

Upgraded Driver
If you allow the TMOBILE upgrade to install the new updates for you, it also installs a new driver in to your XDA that illiminates ALL upgrade problems from what I have seen.

I have done a hard reset on the phone and I run into the problem when I first start the upgrade. It goes through an initial setup of "unpacking" and after that is when I get the error on the pc. The device connects fine with ActiveSync.
I'm having the turn back on issue, and also some times my text messages don't seem to come through.
I was thinking that maybe when it turns itself on, it's a text message trying to come through or something.
My texts end up coming through in a group!
yep, same here on the sms and missed calls...
i got voice mail, from 3 days ago, show up today!
and.. sms from midnight lastnight, came today at 5pm
although, i DID make fone calls this morning, so... the out of range thingie dont apply here..
also... i cant print to IR anymore!
I just upgraded with T-Mobile.16 ROM and Radio. The only bug im experiencing is when I receive a new sms, and I read it already, the notification of "1 unread SMS" on the Today panel won't go away.
I'm also having a hard time setting up my connection settings (MMS and GRPS) for the advanced section of the connection won;t show the proxy settings. Any1 who has a solution for this? I'm usign the mobile in the Philippines that's why I need to setup the proxy per connection and not per connection group.
Upgrade
Nevermind! I hate when it's something simple like disabling the antivirus on the pc. DUH!! I have yet to get any sms. Will keep watching

I am yet to received any errors like this. The only time I seem to have the XDA turn on is when the reception fringes and it hunts down better reception. It only takes a moment of poor reception to interfear with how it receives a message and than the system waits several hours sometimes to send it.
T-Mobile as with many other carriers like Verison and AT&T state to excpet up to 24 hours for SMS messages to get through to your phone.

Yes, I had this issue today and I then unistalled the KSE TrueFax Trial (which I installed yesterday) and now the power button is working correctly again. The only way to power up the XDA was to do a soft-reset.
HTH...

FYI, I had the same problems with the XDA-developers Special Edition ROM. I go into many building where I get no signal at all. My guess is that, if the SMS message fails, the T-Mobile network will retry it, but sometimes not for quite a long time.

I have a similar problem. When the device powers off automatically (after about 3min) I can't get it to come back on. Doing a soft reset actually makes it do a hard reset. Also, while it's in this "coma" state, I can receive a call and hear the person on the other end, but they only hear a ring and can't hear me.
T-mobile had no clue what to do... as usual.

Xda_IIs_v131139_upgrade.exe Update

Hi guys,
Recently installed the latest ROM offered by O2 onto my XDA2s, having firstly been incredibly frustrated that I'd lost all my txt messages and installed applications, I have since found that the phone locks up almost daily now - it particularly seems to be whenever switching the phone on/off with the topright power button - at which stage it'll just freeze.
Sometimes when making a call, I'll dial the number, and when ringing starts, switch the phone display off so as to save batteries, when doing the same since the ROM update, the phone seems to hang.
VERY frustrated, anyone any ideas, or experiencing the same?
Another question, with Bluetooth Audio, is there any way to stream a telephone call through my PC via a bluetooth link allowing me to chat/hear through the PC instead of the phone?
And finally, does anyone else find the Network Connections settings on the PocketPC OS incredibly stupid, confusing and impossible to accurately setup for Internet access through Wireless/Bluetooth??
Cheers, Ash

follow the above thread. I found by doing what it said about removing o2 active stuff I havent had to soft reset since..
I would also add that I have also upgraded to radio rom 1.12.00 and Blue tooth 3900 (shortly after so not certain it was due just to that but likely)
If I can be any help at all PM me and I will try and assist maybe talk on instant messenger..
But I must repeat it hasnt locked since the above and the battery life seems much much greater.... for instance I left it on from 6pm last night until 7am this morning and it appeared to loose only 10% battery including making a couple of calls..
I would do it again with and uk xda2s
Hope that helps
as for the rest of your questions no idea LOL
Stay happy
Thanks for your reply, I did install the upgrade in Corporate mode having read that thread first, but its still installed all the O2 Active stuff - so should I now remove the bits from my Startup folder that relate to O2?
Also, I now cannot find any easy way to disconnect GPRS once its connected????
yep
I would get rid of the active bits as said.. to disconnect gprs simply press and hold the red hang up button
I will look again at your posts and answer anything else I can.. dont know if you have noticed but this site is slow so sorry for the delay in replying
have you upgraded the radio rom and BT version?????
stay happy
did you enter a corporate code when setting up in corporate mode?
0506 i belive
stay happy
Ahhhhh, I thought Corporate Code was for the screen password lock or something, so I just entered my usual code - should I rewrite the rom upgrade again, or can I run the setup program separately on the XDA to enter the 0506 code??
I'm currently running...
Rom V: 1.31.00 WWE
Rom Date: 12/13/04
Radio V: 1.06.00
Protocol: 1337.38
ExtRomV: 1.31.139 WWE
Is that the latest? got from the official O2 website.
Thanks also for the GPRS disconnect, that helps, shame it doesn't tell you, hehe!
you should just be able to do a hard reset and put it into corporate mode. do a backup first though..
The versions you are running are the latest from O2 I think.... however you can find the ones I am using on this forum... I have found them much better and if you are going to do a hard reset you might want to do them first....
anything else just shout..
stay happy
Yeah but if you back up then you are backing up the O2 active stuff as well. When you do a hard reset and choose corporate ok. But when you use backup restore the O2 active gets restored. I use Sprite as backup and i can't see offhand how to backup everything EXCEPT the O2 active stuff so that it won't reinstall on a restore. I've manually put back all my progs etc and then backed up so O2 Active won't come back.
I have to say that the latest O2 Rom update using the personal rather than corporate mode is a disaster. My phone was locking up every day. I was getting really p***** off with it. Now I have got shot of the O2 active stuff everything works fine.
Hi
Here are the instructions I got form Brian at O2 data Support. Back up to PC rather than storage card and restore from there. Here goes:
Workaround - setup a 'Corporate' install that doesn't include the Active
User Interface
Before starting insure important data is saved by syncing to Outlook on your
PC if needed (do not use backup/restore)
* Hard reset.
* Near the end of the custom applications auto-install you will be
given a choice of "Corporate" or "Personal". You should choose "Corporate".
Note: you will only have approx 5 seconds to choose this option, after which
the 'Personal' option will be automatically selected
* You will be asked for a pin. Enter 0506 (that's zero five zero
six) and tap Finish
* You will see the message "Welcome corporate user, O2 Active won't
be installed". Your device is now ready and you will have everything except
the Active User Interface.
Important: the mobile web, WAP and mms settings WILL still be preset.
Hope this helps
Regards
Chris

O2 Xda IIs "wakes up" by itself!!!

Ok, I am getting increasingly frustrated trying to resolve an issue... my Xda O2 IIs keeps "waking itself up" ....aaaargh!!!
I hit the power button on the top to shut off the display (it saves power and enables me to lock the other keys from being accidentally pushed) but after a very short time, the screen comes on by itself, and I can't figure out WHY!!!!
While just sitting on my desk or out on the road, not in the cradle, I noticed, from time-to-time, that the "G" Icon at the top is often replaced by an "x" and the 'left/right sync arrows' ...so I naturally thought it was trying to connect to something.
I thought it might be trying to connect to GPRS, so I removed the connection. It didn't fix the issue.
I thought it was a Bluetooth File Transfer issue, so I deleted that connection also... still no resolve.
I checked my ActiveSync settings, and it all looks ok.
PLEASE HELP, it's killing the length of life in my battery on a daily basis!!!
i had the same problem when i was on the o2 rom, i sorted it by getting shut of the o2 rom and installing the imate 1.40 rom.... it runs faster, better and never needs soft reseting, with the added bonus of wm10.
but i kinda came to the conclusion that when the fone itself talks to the network every so often, ( ya know when u get interferance when its next to a radio or ur desktop speakers.) as it did it at those times, maybe u should stick it next to something and see if u get the radio interference, and see if it does this in flight mode......
also maybe think about removing the o2 active if u have that, and as a last resort, if no-one else can halp with a fix, maybe think about upgrading to imate 1.40 rom...
Mine did this for a while. I can't remamber the EXACT setting, but it was activesync trying to sync on a schedule (like every 5 minutes) over WAP.
If its the same problem, a bit of rummaging around the activesync settings should sort it out.
-Mike
Thanks joey jojo. Thanks mike freegan.
Joey, where can I get iMate 1.40 ??? Although, I really don't want to use the iMate rom. Ideally, I'd like to find and fix the problem I'm having with this O2 rom.
Mike, I checked my ActiveSync settings on the device... everything looks ok to me. Under ActiveSync/Tools/Options/PC Synchronization: 'Use this PC' is set to ZEUS (which is my computer name) and the other two boxes are UNchecked for 'Use mobile schedule to sync with this PC' and 'Sync with this PC during manual sync' ...then when I click on the Options button, the 'When cradled' dialogue appears, the checkbox for 'Enable PC sync using this connection:' is CHECKED and the connection to use is set for 'USB' . Then, under the 'Mobile Schedule' tab, everything is set to 'Manually'.
BTW, when I put the device in 'Flight Mode' ...it doesn't mysteriously 'wake-up' by itself.
I agree, it appears to be trying to use GPRS to 'connect' or 'sync' with something... I just can't seem to find what or where the cause is located. Aaaargh!!! Any other ideas guys?? Anyone else?
XDA III IIs IIi Waking UP
I've found that if I leave my bluetooth switched on it does this I'd love to have my bluetooth on all the time but as it does this I have it off unless I'm using my GPS.
Can this be fixed ?
Thanks Carl n Adele,
I tried your suggestion, shutting off BlueTooth, but after doing so, and then pressing the power button, the device STILL wakes-up after about 20-30 seconds. So, that wasn't the problem.
Is there any O2 subscribers that can call O2 Tech Support and ask some questions? I'd even call myself if I could pretend to be someone else. Just a thought, if there was anyone willing to help out.
i will try to get u xda support number, i work at o2 so i might be able to ask someone too... tho i guess they wont know, cos there idiots.... lol
I had this problem too. Found that Activesync was still running in the background and was using "mobile schedule" to sync via GPRS (even when set to manual), check that ActiveSync does not appear in the Running program list...
Thanks joey jojo, I really would appreciate the help!
m4ttyw, you are correct, ActiveSync was running in the background. But I had set everything in ActiveSync to MANUALLY SYNC. Nevertheless, I STOPPED ActiveSync in the Running Programs List, then pressed the Power Button again, and with fingers crossed and holding my breath, I waited to see if the device would 'wake itself up' again... and... sure enough, it did. Same thing as always! DAMN! Nice try though, thanks.
This is really frustrating me. The manual shows NOTHING about that Icon at the top if the screen (see earlier message in this thread) and what it is doing, so I can only think that is is still trying to connect or sync something... AAAAAAAARGH!!!!!!
Hmmmm, I wonder if it might have something to do with the GSM Band setting? It's currently set to Automatic, I am not sure what it SHOULD be set to for Rogers in Canada???
Darn think waking up
checked all my settings and its def the bluetooth causing my problems
Not mine, Carl... I have BlueTooth SHUT OFF and the device still wakes up by itself!!!
NEW Observation: When the device wakes-up, it takes about 5 seconds before the "G" icon changes to the 'sync' icon with the 'x' (see pics earlier in this message thread) but, I've noticed that signal strength drops off to nothing except a few dots "..." as if it were searching for a signal. And then, immediately comes back to normal signal strength.
sol
This is sometimes caused by a conflict between ur current radio stack and the frequency ur network is using.
What i mean is, the 'G' icons only represents the availability of gprs in ur current coverage area.By default, ur phone syncs with ur provider every x interval
in seconds, by which the state of gprs availability is changed (Hence, its icon) in ur case, ur pda wakes up whenever ur pda syncs with ur network. A temporary solution would be to choose a network configuration (under settings - connections) which doesnt have a gprs connection. This might, or might not cure it. The best thing to do in my opinion is to change ur current Rom ( or atleast ur radio Rom) that would definately cure the problem.
Try both solutions and post.
Sorry for my worse english.
I met this problem for several times, and it seem to cause by active sync inside the PPC.
I have to connect it to PC and have a Sync Operation, then solve it .
My Device :
Simpified Chinese Dopod 696
The Version Number is fogotten Because I had upgraded it .
Thanks gz_lgz,
I think you are CORRECT!!!! I started to think about what you said in your message, and decided to INSTALL the NEW VERSION of ActveSync 4 on my desktop pc.
After installing ActiveSync 4, I did a sync, removed device from cradle, pressed the power button on the device and waited... and waited... and waited... and waited... and waited... and waited... AND it did NOT WAKE ITSELF UP!!!
It seems there was something happening with the ActiveSync installed on the device that was not working properly and therefore kept trying to sync itself again & again, but since installing the new version of ActiveSync, it corrected the problem.
NOTE: I suppose that uninstalling and reinstalling the OLD version of ActiveSync may have done the same thing... but I never tried to do that.
Nevertheless, I am very happy that it is working properly now!!!
Thanks EVERYONE for your time and patience and WILLINGNESS to help!
Gentlemen,
After upgrading to the latest Dangaard ROM I've got a problem that seems to have the same root cause although the symptoms are slightly different.
If Bluetooth is switched on and my hands-free Logitech is paired with the Blueangel, it wakes up every minute. Once the hands-free is switched off, the device sleeps normally. Another lame thing is if the phone call is long enough for the device to go to the sleep mode (longer then 1 minute in my case), the Bluetooth connection is dropped and the sound is transferred to internal speaker.
There is no need to mention that Activesync is stopped. I'm quite sure that all these problems have something to do with the power management of the device. That's why I'd like to ask if somebody uses any additional software for the power management and if you've got any recommendation on the subject.
Hope it could help us to get rid of the problem. Any help is greatly appreciated. My device details are mentioned in the signature.
PS. Thanks to all the contributors to this wonderful forum. I must admit that the idea of BlueAngel was as great as the implementation sucks...
Update: Check this out: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=21235
I think this workaround is good enough.
just a thought, but open active sync on your xda, and make sure that on the PC tab, the box marked 'use mobile schedule to sync with this pc' is not ticked and the other marked 'sync with this pc durin manual sync' IS ticked
also on mobile schedule tab, all selections are set to manually, and the box marked 'sync outgoing items as they are sent' is not ticked.
dunno if that will help, but its a thought anyway!!!

i get the same problem with mine - ever since i turned my active sync onto manual it started with the problem so i turned it back to automatic.. just seeing if that fixed the problem i've been having..
also Downloading the lastet Active sync 3.8 and see if that helps..
I've figured out that its Sprite Backup Software v3.0 thats causing my XDAIIs switch on all the time. Disabling the Scheduled Backup seems to resolve the problem.
However, I've upgraded to SBSv3.14 which works even without turning off Scheduled backup.
Hope this helps

Orange UK Only - What's Best Radio with WM6?

Could I please be so greedy as to have a Orange-UK only thread?
I am been reading and searching in earnest to see what other peoples experiences are with the various Radio ROMs. It seems most people are happy with 1.38.00.10, although seems to be a few instances of people sticking with older versions because of battery life/drop outs/data freezes. But I am unable to establish what other people are experiencing in the UK on Orange's network.
I am well familiar with the Radio ROM 1.38 + WM6 - good or bad? thread, but not many people in there commenting on Orange UK.
If you are on Orange UK, please can you share you experiences here?
My own experience has been thus.
Before upgrading to WM6, was on stock M3100, which had Radio 1.06 I beleive. This worked flawlessy with push email (Exch 2003), and never had any problems at all with it. This was also the case when I upgraded to LVSW 20070315, leaving Radio Rom as was.
Then I upgraded to Black 2.0 last week, and did the Radio to 1.34 with it. I didnt notice any problems at first, or rather didnt take much notice of not getting email notifications whilst at work. But on Friday I realised the Data connections were freezing.
I have tried going to 1.38.00.10, to 1.35, back to 1.06, even 1.27. Have also tried going back to LVSW 20070315, and am now on LVSW 20070408
I have narrowed it all down to the "common" problem in swicthing between GSM and 3G. At home I seem to be between 3 transmitters, and swicthing is common. Hence the problems I was having Friday.
The Excellent commmgrpro has helped here. Also Bandswitch.
Anyway, with Phone set to GSM only I have no problems. Odd thing is, driving to Sheffield and back yesterday (dont mention the football!!), with phoen set to Auto, I had no problems at all.
Yet at home, and at work, on auto the data connection freezes.
So.... Whats everyone else using on Orange?
i've been using rom 3.23.0.2 with radio 1.38.00.10 on a spv m3100. this device is been freezing like you described in your post, thing is, it's become unuseable since you have to reboot after the freeze and it happens almost continiously... driving me insane.
if anyone knows of a way how to get back wm5, i'd appreciate it!
freben
When I upgraded a while ago I was wondering the same thing. The only negatives re 1.38 at the time seemed to come from orange UK customers so I went for the 1.27 radio and it seems fine.
Have not yet stepped up further, and at the moment, see no reason to.
Especially as I can even get the H now and then. (If it aint broke...)
@Phil, I've "gone black" (v 2.0) with Radio 1.38.00.10 - only since Saturday, so it may be too early to tell. I've got a push email account with Mail2Web, which I don't tend to use that regularly - it's good for aggregating lots of mail stuff when I go away on business, but my data package ain't up to much (don't get me started ) so I only switch it on when required.
Since installing the new ROM/Radio/SPL, my M3100 seems to be much better than it was prior to the update. I've reinstalled all my apps (apart from PPCProfilesPRO - I'll do that tonight) and the phone seems really stable - no more random lockups when taking it off charge and only a couple of "slowdowns" when ending calls, or if Activesync'ing....can't really complain if I'm honest
I'll keep an eye on things - and maybe switch on the Exchange push email for a couple of days - and I'll post again if the situation changes.
Cheers,
Mark.
PS - Message for @freben; read MrVanx's guide on downgrading to WM5 - see THIS POST for details of how to find it.
MrVanx kindly provides a guide here: http://www.mrvanx.myzen.co.uk/hermes_guide/Downgrade/
Do please read very carefully before trying it
Yep...1.27 for me. No real radio problems to report.
Spent a couple of weeks with WMXL 2.0 and the last two weeks with Black 2.0. Both work fine with Orange with 3g (inc HSDPA) and voice. Direct push/web/pop email all fine.
One freeze this morning (first one in two weeks) but dont know if it was radio or os or an app?
Can;t compare with other radios but simply can say am happy with 1.27 (hence why I havent tried 1.38 etc)
Having no problems with set up in sig.
had the freezing with the stock set up.
Could/should we be more scientific here and use one of the many web2.0 survey sites to do a ROM/OS survey to find the right mix?
with a little effort we could then find the most reliable Radio ROM and view by Country/OS/carrier/etc.
just a suggestion..

@Mark,
try Orange World Browsing, 8ukp for unlimited data access 24/7
Give O a call on 150 and then the billing option, 4
Orange World Browsing is what is what the O rep told me it was listed as. I think one of the key points is the cost, it’s 6.81 exc VAT or 8 inc VAT, that’s the way to check you have the right package.
And you need to be on a 35ukp per month tarif or more to get it.
apologies for off topic post!!
(I was told it was Orange World Unlimited)

My bill confirms it as Orange World Browsing -although I too thought it was OWU.
Not sure if it is still so hard to get as it once was.
Sheep_Head - Well, I am definetely up for using a survey site - any recommendations?
I gave re-flashed my phone back to Black 2.0. Seems to be what most people are using here (IMHO). Have tried Radio 1.27, 1.38.00, and right back to 1.07.
With a totally clean device (i.e. straight after flashing), setting up the orangeinternet connection manually, the thing just wont connect to 3G. Only when I have Band set to GSM will it connect.
Jeez!
I am now in the process of going back to an Orange WM5 rom, to see if it makes any difference, (albeit the Romanian one, so will have to reset the internet connection).
Getting mildly frustrated now.
OK, I'm now back to Orange Radio version, and Orange WM5 -(Romanian!)
Entered Orange Internet settings. And have gained nothing. COnnects via GSM, but not via 3G.
Grrrrrr....
Spoke to Orange CS - no reported 3G problems in my area (well, what about me???).
What's the panel's opinion on sending a phone back to O with OliPro's bootloader on it? (well, and the Romanian Rom, but they prob wouldnt spot that).
I have insurance etc, so would get a replacement in advance....

dude as a last ditch attempt can you try out flashing LVSWs latest ROM?? Make sure your settings are good and post the results?? (it wont take long)
Hey guys - mega useful thread.
I 'thought' I had solved all of my woes and was feeling bloody smug with myself as I thought I had managed to keep the stupid questions down to a minimum. After reading this obviously not .
I am running Black v2.0 (happily) and the rest of the handset is as per my sig block but I have removed spb pocketbooks and replaced it with shell. I thought it was all working correctly but I am suffering the same connectivity issues as yourself (gprs and not 3G).
Also - and I have read the threads but still not working (was going to try again after a re-re-re build I still have no VM notifications.
Anything I can help with or test let me know and I will do what I can.

I have just tested the voicemail fix again since my reinstall and the certificates cab plus installing the sms dll has always worked for me.
Are you having any specific issues with it?
CrazyC,
I am struggling with the whole copying over of the .dll file in the widows directory. Like I said I have done a search of the wiki on VM notifications etc and followed the directions. I have attempted using Activesync but keep getting a response saying that the destination is in use. I have tried directly on the handset (not expecting it to work) and it doesn't and finally I tried by using Total Commander. Still no joy. I will keep going with it though as I was thinking about building again from fresh anyways, and then attempting the vm notification from clean.
Gonna wait out for black v2.5 before I do that however.
Cheers for getting back to me though!

Hmmm... I dont think that will achieve anything. I have had the latest LVSW ROM on there a while bad, with the same problem.
I'd really like to hear from anyone who has returned a flashed M3100 to Orange.

The only way I have done this recently is using Resco File Explorer. You need to go into the Options menu to ensure you can see all files, then copy the sms_providers.dll into the \Windows directory. It warns you, but if you say yes it lets it happen. I have done this numerous times (have flashed my phone about 10 times recently!) without any problems!

First few times I did this, it just copied OK with the file explorer. Most recently tho it gave me the same error - so I went to the zip file on my ppc and told it to extract directly to the windows folder, said yes to overwrite and it did. Maybe worth a try. (install the certs first incase it makes a difference.)
SMS Providers CAB
To make my life easier I put the sms_providers.dll from WM5 into a CAB. To install make sure you've installed the sdk certificates (http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=35814&d=1174572298) first and then install this cab - a soft reset is requested at the end of installation and is required.
I've tested this on the latest LVSW ROM and it works perfectly, hopefully will overcome peoples issues with copying this file.

WIMP - Where Is My Phone

I'm posting this here as well as other GPS enabled device forums.
Here's the main thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1543674#post1543674
Here's the gist:
I’ve found a mint piece of software that no Kaiser owner should be without.
It comes with a trial period and u should check it out.
I was looking for some software that would help secure my phone and came across this. http://www.wimp-software.co.uk)
It’s supposedly designed to help you find your phone (yeh right, I aint gonna lose my £500 phone) but me and my mate have had a **** load of fun with it.
It’s pretty cool.
If you read the instructions, you can basically text the phone, but the other person doesn’t get the text message. The software grabs this coded text message and sends you back the gps position of the phone. It also gives you a link to google maps which is great if you’ve got Opera installed on your phone. (Don’t try PIE, it doesn’t work)
I gotta say, I’ve seen a lot of cool software around, but this one is SO cool. I only wish my girlfriend had a Kaiser. I could have so much fun with this.
The only thing I would add to the software though, is to know I was being WIMPED. Maybe a little SMS noise, or the icon changed or something, but I do suppose that it was written for phone theft. I haven’t tried it yet, but it also claims that if you change the SIM card in the phone it’ll SMS you with the number of the new SIM card.
It seems very cool.
I'm gonna give it a try
It Rocks!!!
Isn't this known as AGPS... well... a kind of gps location by bouncing off the signal dishes of your provider... but as far as i know your operator has to support it... alas it does not work on all...
P.S. now we know THEY can track our phones
Mobile Justice
Not tried it myself but there is a piece of open source software called MobileJustice that does the same thing.
Works for me. After about 10mins I got a text back with all the GPS data.
Gonna try the open source one though now!

CraftyB,
I'm trying the open source one you said about but can't seem to find anywhere to set things like com port for the GPS. Any ideas?
MJConfig
In your programs file you wil find MJConfig icon there you can enable gps, MsgBox and Loc. Call.....i tried the software but when i changed the simcard, your phone must send a sms message with the new phone number...to your other mobile..(the number you have put in MJConfig)
or else you won't be able to track your phone (gps logging and messaging is activated by sms, without the new number, no tracing) but it didn't work for me changed 2 simcards and the phone i gave up to sms didn't recieve any.....
So it is useless if someone changes the simcard.....and yes i used the international numbers....
I guess you could notice being WIMPed, as the connection LED, which is normally blinking green, changes to blinking yellow, which indicates activated GPS...

Mine stay blinking green when I've a GPS connection
Anyone found it useful?
HARD RESET and it is useless.
Not true.
Put it in your External ROM and it most definately isn't!!!
They've got automatic launching of Virtual Earth Mobile now too.
Check out their forum at http://www.wimp-software.co.uk

Flash the external ROM and it is a mute point. Are you their agent?
No I'm not their agent.
For a start, think about this. Someone steals your phone.
Are you saying that they are going to
a: Ooooh, it's a WM phone so the first thing I'll do is hard reset it.
b: That's not good enough so I'll flash their Extended ROM
c: I'll put a cooked ROM on it just to be safe.
I'm supporting an excellent piece of software from a company which is obviously just up and coming. If you don't like it then don't f***in use it.
I'm glad there are people out there thinking about us people that DO happen to be victims. Then you get people like you have nothing to do but scorn them.
I understand your point....
Yes... It is a good idea. However, if you do not have the GPS on, it is useless. And you have to send the SMS message when the GPS is on.
You obviously haven't read the manual.
The WIMP message switches the GPS on, and then switches it off when it's finished.
You should try it before giving it a bad rep!!!!
Hi all,
in my old Nokia N70, I have this software :
http://www.symbian-toys.com/guardian.aspx
"Guardian is the new antitheft system for Symbian Series 60 devices.
Every time you switch on your mobile telephone, Guardian proceeds with authentication of the inserted sim card; if authentication fails, Guardian send a notification sms message to a previously set telephone number.
In addition, the system features remote control functions, i.e. deleting your photographs/phone book/text messages/video/audio data in case of loss or theft of your mobile phone (see Plugins section).
Please NOTE that all the sms sent / received by Guardian will not notified in any way to the user, no icons, no lights, no sounds, no vibro, nothing visibile in inbox/sent/outbox messages folder, and of course, no traces left in logs."

But, this it's only for Symbian Series 60 devices..
Somebody know if there is the same for Windows Mobile ?
Thanks you.
Just had a read of the forum.
Looks like the next version gets rid of the icon on the today screen!!
Hooray
