Hi does anyone know of a registry hack to change the left soft 'contacts' button in the phone app. I'd like to change it so it doesnt open the default contacts app but a contacts program of my choosing.
Many thanks.

you can try the attached .txt document, plus a few more tweaks you may be interested, as well.
Please read very carefully and be cautious not to mess up your ppc.

What you want is called SoftKey Applet, filename is: SoftKeyAppletEx.cpl
Or depending on what you want to do you can download Taskmanager v2.7. Kill poutlook.exe(windows folder) and replace it with whatever .exe you want controlled by that softkey. Just rename the exe you want to poutlook. If it still gives you a read-only error kill cprog.exe also and just repeat the above steps.
How do you change what programs are displayed on the bottom of the home page in WM6? Mine seem to cycle through Activesync, calendar & contacts. I want to add Media player.
Thanks,
NK
Try this...I use it and it works good.
The location for editing the today soft keys is: HKCU/Software/Microsoft/Today/Keys/112 & 113.
I used the KeySwop pgm and it worked great. THANKS.
What registry tool do you use? Where do you learn the "ways of the registry"? How does one learn what edits affect what outcome?
Thanks,
Nick
Hi!
I would like to know if it is possible to change the application that is launched when the sms, email or calls are pressed.
For example, I use Flexmail that may be used to process all messages (sms and etc.) I use this application as the default mail program, but when i press the mentioned buttons above the Poutlook is run.
Is it possible to change the applications assigned to these buttons?
I have the same question... Bump!
I have seen a program or possibility to do that, but I'm not sure where....
Maybe it's possible with HHC (HTC Home Customizer), that can be found elsewhere on this forum. Otherwise I'd look in the registry at
HKLM\Software\HTC if you can find if any programs are assigned to those icons. Try to find poutlook.exe?
i'm pretty sure you can not with the htc home customer v1.0 final. also could not find anything in HKLM\Software\HTC either.
help please...
If you hex-edit the dll, you can see that the buttons are hard-coded to run tmail.exe. But that does give me an idea....
Ok, thank you!
No other suggestions (nor regedit neither HHC helped me)?
Hi. I am trying to make Pocket Informant 8 the defalut calendar in today screen on my VZ XV6900 Vogue with win mobile 6.1. I have no problem with the contacts soft key going to PI8, but the calendar goes to windows pocket outlook calendar, (very limited). Anyone know how to fix?
Thank you

Her are some options:
If you are using the stock VZ homepage you should be able to just go into PI8 and have it be the default calendar app.
If you are using a custom rom with M2D. This is what I did and it works great.
1. Using TotalCommander (Not file explorer) copy the .exe file for PI8 to the /Windows folder.
2. Rename this exe file to Calendar.exe. This will replace the existing calendar.exe file with the one from PI8. (Before you do this you might want to copy the previous calendar.exe file to another folder in case you ever want to use it again)
Open PI8, and change the setting to make it the default calendar app.
I had the same problem but I created this registry entry and I cooked it in to all of my roms
but here the reg file. Just import it into your phone registry. You will need to install resco explorer and the registry extension (the trial will do fine) in order to import anything into the wm registry.
Good Luck
Rob G
edit the file (112.txt ---->>>112.reg)
I've searched and searched and cannot find anyone with a similar problem.
My MS Messaging App has disappeared. If I go to Start, All Programs, there is no app called "Messaging." I'm pretty sure it was there before as I think I used it to set up custom signatures in two of my email accounts. I think this missing app is also the one that allows me to save e-mail attachments on my SD card. Everything else is working fine except I cannot change my signatures, nor can I delete an email account. I still have a program called "E-mail," which takes me to the in box of an email program. I still have an app called "Mail Setup," which allows me to 'choose a mail provider' to set up a new email account. But I no longer have a program called "Messaging." I have a subdirectory called "Messaging" in the "Windows" folder, but no executables in this folder or anywhere else I can think of, certainly not in Windows/Start Menu.
I've only done a few tweaks and added a few programs to my Verizon TP2. I did some reg edits to unlock and remove some of the locked icons/programs (Contacts, Calendar, Settings) in the Manila Start Menu (since I'm using these tabs don't need them on the Start/Programs menu. Also installed Slingbox mobile, Google Maps/Search, youtubeplay, PHM reg editor, and I think that's about it. Email and everything else works fine. Am I losing my mind or shouldn't there be a "Messaging" app?
i have a "Messaging" and its basicly the account picker, is that what your looking for?
If i click on its properties its shortcut is pointing to
Code:
":MSINBOX" ?"\Windows\MPI_ProgramIcons.dll,-123
Try duplicating a shortcut from \windows\start menu\programs and editing its shortcut to that. But your icon might be different since i'm on a custom rom where the chef might have edited his dll's

Thanks for your response. Near as I can tell (from File Explorer), I do not have a file entitled anything like "Windows\MPI_ProgramIcons.dll,-123". Just as well, I guess, 'cause I'm also not sure how I would edit a shortcut of another file. I'm no programmer, just a bit of a hack trying to customize my phone a little bit.
