Weather plugin with GPS location? - P3300, MDA Compact III ROM Development

Hi All,
Has anyone come across a way of getting the HTC Touch weather plug in to pull in weather details based upon your GPS location? It'd seem an obviously useful and cool thing to do...

Seems like a cool idea, but that would take a while to update since it would have to activate the GPS, lock onto satellites, and then down load info based on your location. But if it could use your location based on cell sites info, that would be quicker. Like the locate feature on the new version of Google Maps. That would be cool.

yes, it would...!

If it is MS live search then yes (I removed mine first just in case) if its some other search you may have to remove it (via settings) first
Installed this new Live Search cab,no longer can use Live Search on Today screen
Yes the program works well after installation, but now I have lost the capability of searching from my Today screen Windows Live Search. Any hints at what I should do to fix? What ever I put in to the space for search, it comes back with a window " The file http://mobilelive.com/search etc etc" cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its components cannot be found. If the problem persists, try reinstalling or restoring this file".Never did use my Live Search on Today screen much , but now it bothers me not having it work. If I am not mistaken, it certainly didn't do the same type of searches that this new version is capable of doing. Can't remember whether it was configured to use Google search or not.. Anyways, somehow the installation buggered things up. Any ideas, I would be greatful for any recommendations. I did do SR, and even uninstalled the New cab, but ended up in a worse scenario, because I couldn't get my old version to work anymore. Looking for the string to change the Search URL to Google. I used to see it all the time, now I can't find it. Thought I would change the Search URL in Schaps Advanced config tool.
Just tried changing the Search string to use Google in regedit, and that did not help. Still can't do a Live search using Today screen search, or when I go to WLM using the search there. Anyone else experiencing this?
I have had no problems with mine. I installed the cab from the web site over the existing Live Search and it works great. I use live search , not Google so maybe that could be a problem. It almost sounds like the registry is messed up. I would reinstall the rom and then install live search again if you are going to use it.
Pre existing Live Search incorporated in WLM before this new one
I had WLM previous to overlaying this separate cab, so I didn't overlay on to a separate ,existing Live Search stand alone program.. Maybe this is why it didn't merge correctly into the WLM . I suppose that if I would have either deleted a previous separate Live Cab only and installed the new one , that might have made the difference.. Thanks

The "Search" Today plug in is from Windows Live. (Pocket MSN replacement) Which is not the same as Live Search. Live Search can be download here from your phone: http://wls.live.com/ Look in your programs folder and see if you still have "Windows Live". If so launch it and go to menu /options / Today Screen options.
Thanks Gwelker62
Thanks for straightening me out on the differences. Hopefully helpful to others.
thanks! for those that haven't installed it or clicked the link to look at new features, besides voice recognition it also added gas prices. I haven't actually driven around to verify if they are accurate or not, but at first glance they seem pretty close
thank you so much for the heads up! the voice recognition is slick, but the new gas prices option is even better!
loving the voice recognition... you can just say the name of the place you're looking for and it'll find it.
One question on the BT GPS, will it have step by step navigation if you have a BT GPS? or does it only shows your location?
Gonna have some fun with this methinks...
And by the looks of things its gonna thrape my bandwidth allowance with Orange...
Edit: switching to aerial and zooming into my house I did 2mbyte of data in like a couple of minutes.
Edit2: Does HSDPA downloads use more battery than 3G downloads? I assume they use the same aerial, but does HSDPA use more power transmitting and receiving? I know 3G uses more than GPRS.
can't get voice recognition working here?
have I read somewhere it is a u.s only feature?
anyone in the u.k got it working?the box is greyed out on my app.
live search and gps
i just downloaded and installed the new voice recognition version of live search and paired it with my bluetooth solar gps logger and it works perfectly
to sush1a, you can do both, turn by turn directions, or it can show your location and show you (if you follow the blue line) where to go.

Weather - wind speed/direction possible?

I love the weather app on my HD especially since it's now working on S2U2, but one thing that really annoys me is the lack of info about wind speed & direction.
I like to get out sea fishing when I can, and this would be REALLY useful info if there was a way to add it into the Touch HD's weather app, or if there is an alternative program that would pretty much do the same nice front end as it but with more info and the same locations.
Is there any hope of finding something suitable?
I'm sorry, with TF3D you have no chance. If you need advanced weather infos, then you should try a advanced application. Unfortunately I'm not into this whole weather thing - I only use the TF3D thing, but I'm sure somebody can tell what Prog you need.
TF3D defenetly doesn't work
Would you rely on a mobile phone app for weather info before going out to sea??
No, of course not - despite what some may think I'm not a moron and have been safe at sea for many years now.
It would be extremely useful however to see at a glance what the wind speed is predicted to be for the next few days on one of the tabs, like the weather one, as then it can show you at a glance whether it's even worth contemplating & planning a trip out, or if there'll be no likely chance of it.
Regardless of the use of it,the question was whether/how it's doable, not whether I'm a competent mariner or not.
For instance my watch has a built in tide graph that lets me see at a glance what sort of times the tides will be and it's very useful. But I wouldn't go out without knowing the exact tides otherwise I could have problems when I come back in. Having a gadget isn't mutually exclusive with common sense & reliable methods.
Not an app but...
www.xcweather.co.uk
you can get it on the mobile browsers
Cheers - have added that to bookmarks.
I found an app called secil weather that looks great but no wvga/vga sadly

ArcGIS app

I couldn't find a thread where anyone has mentioned this so I thought I'd mention this app. It's ArcGIS from ESRI and it is in the Marketplace (FREE!). It might be getting overlooked because people think they need to know GIS to use it which is not the case. Within the program there are dozens of base maps to choose from including a world road map. It doesn't have turn by turn directions but it does allow you to center your location and have the map scroll under you while driving. The world map has fairly good detail. Give it a try, I think you'll be surprised at all the information you will have access to with the various base maps.
I don't have any affiliation with the developer except I am a user of their desktop software.
Interesting, will show this to my girlfriend. She uses the desktop software for school, might have interesting integration capabilities.
Just for anyone who reads this, there is now a Turn-By-Turn navigation app which uses this API.
The thread is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=959087
I loaded the A to B navigation yesterday and it's got to be one of the top 5 free apps out there.
One thing I like about the Arcmap app I originally posted about is the ability to have useful maps saved in the favorites folder and switch between them within the program. It can go from a road map to a weather map and back again with just a few button pushes.
that's really amazing
just curious if it would have an integration problem with a laptop?

[Q] Looking for a GPS App

I am looking for a GPS app that is comparable to a actual GPS, I have tried searching and GPS is a pretty common phrase in a lot of threads. lol.
Thanks for your help in advanced guys, I appreciate the help and experience that the forum brings to the table.
P.s. I am not against having to buy the app. I am just not going to drop a ton of money on an app when I could just buy a GPS for pretty cheap.

What about google nav? or even the sprint nav? lol.
I think we need to know more about what you are looking for in this app.
There's a few like navigon or aura but they are expensive, google nav always gets the job done for me.
* Navigon
* iGo
* Copilot
There may be some others, but i'm not aware of them. Of the above 3, I found copilot to be most robust with an intuitive UI.
Navigon and iGo seemed outdated.
Of course, if garmin ever gets off their ass and makes an android navigation app, that will probably be the best. Their windows mobile version was awesome.
I use MapQuest and it has maps navagation and voice turn by turn direction all in one app

What's wrong with the native google navigation app? I don't understand.
EDIT - just took a look at the mapquest app. Pretty cool.
Does anyone know of a Navi app that includes waypoints? Say I'm driving to my buddy's house out of town and want to find a chevron on my way there.

The problem is it requires a data connection. Although the OP didn't say it outright, I think it was implied he's looking for something that does not. All 3 of the ones I mentioned store the map data and points of interest (POI's) on the sd card.
And yes, copilot supports multiple way points. I imagine the other two do as well, but didn't play with them at length as I thought the UI was bland, and pretty much stopped there.
I believe google maps will do this as well. You'd just need to fiddle with the layers. But actually chaining multiple points together, A->B->C->D, isn't possible yet on Google Nav; It's just A->D right now. :<

Google Now Weather Location Issue

The weather card has my location correct. But when I click on the weather icon for more details it brings up the Google search results for the right city, wrong country. Is there a way to define what specific city I am in for this feature?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
My location is completely wrong. Totally different city, totally different state, nothing in relation to me current location. I don't get it and I can't change it. Google should have enabled people to do a bit of customizing. At the least we should be able to do some initial setup stuff like home/work addresses and things of that nature. I do think this platform is really interesting and I'm looking forward to using it more and seeing how this evolves.
same - wrong country

You can set your home and work locations through Latitude.
go to google now settings, then privacy and accounts, then uncheck "search on google.com" if you check that, it's gonna show you the USA city weather (I believe), not gonna show you local restaurant and such
