help with WM6 ROM - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam ROM Development

I'm hoping someone can give me a hand with getting my ROM under control. Firstly, I don't know much about all this and I learn by doing so reading over these posts only helps me so much. I've replaced my ROM with the initial (and I think unofficial) at&t WM6 release, but I have had nothing but problems since then. Today I saw a newer release for AT&T WM6 on HTC's website, and tried to flash my phone with it but it didn't take. It kept failing at 64%. I went back to the old ROM (which I downloaded from this site) but now i'm afraid I'll just keep having the same snags like freeze ups and keyboard errors.
What I am looking for is a ROM that is running WM6 that i can start to learn on. I don't need anything complicated, just something with the basic features I have now but a bit more stable. Once I get the hang of how cooked ROMs work and all I can start getting into the trickier stuff.
Can anyone suggest a good ROM for me to start playing around with? Thank you for the help.
Branden

I'm currently using Schap's ROM. Its working great for me. The latest is 4.2, but since it is rather new you should maybe try a 3.6 version. Here is a great step by step guide for just that.

There are both standard and lite versions of his ROMs. Good luck with everything!

Thanks..I'll give it a go.

a request for ROM help

i need help with rom cooking. i have flashed my phone more times than i can count and i have used kitchens and and i have downloaded many rom tools to my computer. i have attempted making a few rom and when i flash them the dont boot past the windows screen. really i am asking for someone to take me under their wing and help me in the ROM cooking process. i know i am not ready for the major league entirely custom stuff but basics. like fetting to know what the some of the stuff in sys. folders are and such. i am not a complete newb but i am not experienced in programming so any help would be very much apprecieated.i have lots of patience with this stuff i am just uneducated with it.i am a well known member senior member at ppcgeeks. i just though i would post here also because i know there are some cooking legends here such as DCD. anyone with some experience your time will be much apprecieted.
Cooking roms
There is an excellent rom already out there for this phone. Unlocks the GPS features and has some of the best freeware utilities already installed. Then just install the other apps you need afterwards. If you dont keep flashing your phone it wont be so much work to put all of your apps back on afterwards....
Not to say that flashing and cooking isnt fun.. I mean I flashed my HTC Wizard about 40 different times in one night even.... Til I found that perfect ROM for it. But the GPS Vogue rom that is out there pretty good. It has almost everything most people need in it already. With most of the newest versions of stuff. (albeit a FEW things were out dated).
Not to discourage or flame you from learning how to cook.

i use the official ppckitchen over at ppcgeeks to add my own stuff to this ROM i just want to learn how to start doing this stuff so that i can get a better understanding of things and maybe eventually be one of the gurus around here and other places. i normally dont take things as flaming just tryng to be helpful as you see my status here but at ppcgeeks.com it is a different story. i love my vogue and i want to better my understanding of it.i am also trying to learn how to write programs in C++ that is also very difficult being that i am almost 16 and have no official training in any of this. thanks for the heads up but i have had that technology on my phone for months.

Rom for HTC 8525

I just updated my at&t 8525 and well i got the i guess official rom its kinda laggy on my phone which is alright but ive uploaded some programs on it and i got my sms threaded which im loving just wondering what would be a good rom for it and would it be the same affect as me updating the official one so i dont brick my phone and mess it up cause there too much to be getting a new one thanks in advance for any help
If you want one that is simple, safe, and made for at&t, you should go with VP3Gs last rom. Its nice, and stable.
Holy Repeat Noob thread openers batman
Jeez how many of these threads are we gonna see? Someone should count them and keep track for the noobs!
Ya, and its always people with the 8525 lol.
I would use Binkys or MRH if I were you, thats what I use on my 8525. But in reality with SPB Mobile Shell you can use almost any ROM which is what im doing now.

I ran his roms for about a year.
While they are VERY good roms, if you're up for manually inputting Data, SMS settins, and tweaking a few other things, the new 6.1 roms FLY.
I am using this one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=388523
And it is damn fast.
sorry
yes guys i am a noob i just would like to get my 8525 goin good for me im sorry for the stupid noob ? but i just feel that the official rom does not perform that great. can anyone tell me where to download these roms at
We were all noobs at one time. You need to read this first:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=299462
It explains everything you need to know to flash ROM's. Then you will need to flash many different ROM's and see which one has what you want. No ROM is the same, and everybody wants something a little different.
Hmmm

I havent tried the new ROM that he just posted but I flashed his rom on the 17th of June and it was SLOOOOW... I mean really slow - boot menu etc and it also sucked the battery down fast w.o WIFI and BT on. Really buggy for me. So, I switched back to a Schaps win 6.0 Rom - stable for now. But if you say this new one works pretty good and is stable, I will give it another shot.
Also, I cannot find out how to fix my QUERTY effin Keyboard. The blue buttons are all effed up - i.e. @ is ? etc... I have seen people talk about this encounter, but I do not know how to fix it. Has this happened to you at all? If so, do you know how to fix it?
so if i get one of these other roms i gotta flash it is there not any already on here made for the 8525 thats already flashed for cingular i mean im not getting this

I'm running his version in my signature and it is fantastic.
With his rom there is a utility that lets you change the keyboard settings. It's called Advanced Config or something like that.

Everyone was a noob sometime .. does it mean we shouldnt help?
I cant talk for AT&T but I use CRC v11 .. very good
Remember most importantly step 1 is to use HARDSPL V7 this will prevent your mobile phone becomming a brick. You can find details about flashing and hardspl in MRVANX's sticky at the top of this forum.
Good luck .. become an expert and give back to the community.

Ok
Step 1 : Read Mrvanx guide on how to HARDSPL your phone (and do it)
Step 2 : Load CRC's V11 rom
Step 3 : Enjoy
You will have to read MRvanx post
You will have to read CRC's post
Its all there so no one will repeat it here for you.
Heres the Link to Mr Vanx to start you off

Just got a htc touch

Just switch to alltel from verizon (MUCH CHEAPER) I find the screen and theme to be a little boring. Are there any updates I can use to make it look Amazing.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/search.php
Amazing.
Use your imagination + all available software + custom graphics
I've tried CRiSTALv04 but I got 2 errors while it tried to update the rom to wm 6.1 something. I'm afraid that I'm going to brick my new phone so I stop. or there anything else that I can use beside flashing my rom.
Uhhhhh......
For someone who only wanted to change themes, you may want to slow down on the ROM flashing !

This might be a dumb question: was your phone unlocked properly? Custom ROM's are great. Try to find one with Manila 2D and you will think you bought something from Dumbledore's secret wizardry tools. Plus, most custom ROM's have much better graphics (clearer fonts, better application skins, etc.). None of the custom ROM's have things so customized you can't immediately continue normal use.
I use Dette's 2.3 and really enjoy it. Look for it on ppcgeeks.com in the Vogue->Vogue Upgrades forum.
UPDATE: I now use NFSFAN's Sprint 1.03 and it is by far the best custom ROM EVER.
SPAWN, did you ever get your problem solved? People who help you would like to know how things go.

Upgrading O2 XDA Ignito - Problems sorted

Sorry to bother you, I'm sure this info is somewhere (or if I understood it a bit better), but if someone could clear a few things up:
1) Have downloaded Hard-SPL 1.23, 1.34 and the latest version - is the newer better/more stable? Or I do have to use the one that matches the ROM I am flashing to?
2) If I want to do a cooked a ROM, will any of the versions of Hard-SPL listed above work for that too?
3) Is there an easy way to back up operator settings (internet, voice mail number etc?) Just got it so there's nothing else on it that needs backing up.
4) Offical ROMs are in .exe format, can I just install them on to my XDA?
Edit: Found the official ROMs, just required looking through several pages (sorry). Can anyone answer the other questions, especially how to back-up network settings.
For the mo I just want to get rid of the O2 branding.
Thanks for your time - have been a mod on several forums and I know you end up having to answer questions 20 times over.
Cheers,
Joe
Regarding Hard SPL, read here fully and carefully. It will tell you all you need to know.
With regards to ROMs, you could use the official ones but you will find AZTOR ROMs far superior. (AZTOR = Alpha Zero Tweaked Official ROM) or alternatively Shaks.P ROM in my signature which is set up for the UK. Both will automatically detect your network and use the correct settings and both are as stable as the original ROMs but with improved performance
I have a UK o2 xda ignito, and the only hard spl I have used is 1.93 from this thread.

Most of the modded roms can be flashed with the included utilities. But most of the official 2.03 roms can only be flashed from internal storage.
Any info you need can be found with the search function, with a little time.
All the best.

Responding To Questions:
1) It doesn't have to match your original SPL...if the one you have downloaded works then use it. Very few chefs recommend a specific Hard SPL with there ROM. But this is so rare.
2) if you want to flash a unsigned ROM then you need a developers edition Hards SPL.....or jocky's works as well....I personally use 1.93 so I recommend that one.
3) don't worry about backing up operators settings.....most of these roms come with a "Connection Setup" which allows you to select from a list of operators and it does everything for you. I also have a little app for this if your rom doesn't have this.
@Everyone: thanks for your help.
Will install the 1.93 Developers HSPL and see how that goes.
Can anyone recommend a ROM (don't want any visual tweaks)?
Thanks again
Asking such a question can close this thread .........
This is out of the respect of the chefs who work hard. Please refrain from this topic regarding best roms, etc.
Just try them out and read the threads.

I understand people have put a lot of hard work in and have taken a look at a few cooked ROMs, and fully intend to start cooking my own when (if) I have learned the skills.
However just got it and it has O2 branding, so i'd like to play with the original interface for a day or two before I start seeing what can really be done with the interface
Yeah, good idea, this will allow you to compare the true difference between a original and a cooked Rom. That is where one can begin to truly see how much better a cooked Rom is.
AZTOR version for UK?
Gonna try the AZTOR, looks like its got some solid improvements without affecting the UI, which version (WWE/GER) are using for the UK Mike?
Thanks again everyone, you've been a great help.
A mod can close this thread if you want now, got my problems sorted.
Thanks all.

Upgrade Rom Without Data Loss...Is it remotely possible?

I recall reading a little while back a message (somewhere, sorry for not remembering) that there was a way (if i remember correctly) to make a ROM Update Utility that wouldn't harm the data on the phone (excluding MicroSD which we have to remove when updating). I don't know the truth to this, but the idea behind being able to upgrade roms and keep personal data (and maybe installed applications) is cool. I know that whenever I upgrade roms the biggest part is reinstallation of my programs (it gets very annoying!). Its not so annoying that i want to toss my Dash against the wall, I just don't like having to do it over and over again (especially with new roms and updates coming out).
Essentially, having to reinstall, and re-setup, my phone with each ROM update is really what keeps me from upgrading a big part of the time (ie: going from the Energy Rom to Ookba's new 3vo ROM). Is there any way to be able to make this process of reinstallation easier?

That was exactly the link I had looked at (and apparently not too long ago either). I read through a good part of it, but its past Midnight here, and I am drowsy beyond belief , so I didn't make much sense of any of it. Essentially I don't cook roms, and it mentioned something about the chef having to make the RUU in a specific way (correct?). Is this in our near future?
Da_G alread made a test ROM and updated the ROM sucessfully for the Raphael. I'm sure our smartphones aren't too far from getting it either. They just have to make some tools for us chefs to use it in our kitchens now Soon.
