i update wm6 but cant remember password is there away i can bypass the password option or reset it? on xda 2s

i have the same problem... my was was 1337.. and as secret question i had LEET ... so i could never mistake.. after 2 days 1337 wont work!
i need some help 2

i bet you guys changed battery without disabling the password check...
and havent read the forum for the same problems until now.
dont worry... i've been in the same situation...
Sad to say...
your password is LOST.
there are NO SOLUTIONS to revive your password.
but there are ways to save your storage data...
WARNING:
like i said it's sad to say because all your
customization will vanish alongside this procedure.
but you can still save some personal data.
SOLUTION:
press and hold the Camera + Record button
soft reset while holding them...
there will be a display of three items with a NO toggled default.
use the Camera button to toggle YES/NO
and use the record button to Cycle thru the menu list.
Hard Reset Using this option
1. - NO
2. - YES
3. - NO
option
this means you're just clearing up your registry
without touching your storage data.
then Press the Mail button
(second button from the left above your green key)
then if you booted the WM6 and inside it...
use some backup softwares to save your
data (SMS/Contacts/Emails/My Documents)
after you have backed up what you want backed up.
Hard Reset again then use NO/YES/YES or NO/NO/YES
to format your storage...
after the hard reset then reinstall everything again...
hope that helps.

Just to cofirm that the same thing happened to me shortly after upgrading to WM6. I was on a train on my way to a really important meeting.... Grrr.
I was just grateful for being able to save my data - the loss of cusomisations was the least of my worries!!
These days I don't password protect my device...

how to unlock htc touch without password

Friends,
I've just joined the forum. My HTC touch has just been locked itself and I can't unlock it because I didn't set a password. I still can receive calls but can't make calls, the screen is password screen, nothing else. I can't shut it down without removing the battery.
I tried PIN, PUK, IMEI, 0000, 1234, etc but didn't work. I tried soft reset but didn't help. Tried hard reset but it didn't reset. I tried the SIM card in other phones, it works, thus, the problem is the device.
Any help will be appreciated...

You want to double check about that hard reset. I think you've probably only done a soft reset. A hard reset will reset the machine back and wipe off ALL your data and settings, including the password.
The front screen password of which you are referring to NOT any of the ones you have listed, but instead it is something you would have set when setting up the device.
Have a try with some of your usual passwords
I have tried hard reset (pushing green and red buttons at the same time pushing the reset button with its own pen) but, didn't reset (since there appeared no message on the screen like "the data will be lost"). I think those two buttons are not functional because of password. Every time I tried hard reset it has done the soft one.
thanks anyway

I'd suggest you query this in the HTC Touch forum rather than the General Forum for everything, as they have more intimate knowledge to help you
Hi there, my HTC touch just did the same today. I never set a password.
I contacted my IT guy and he mentioned the following:
Try number 1 once, and then tap unlock.
WORKED BRILLIANTLY!!
The HTC Touch does that all the time.
All you need to do is hold down the Send and End Call buttons down firmly and push the stylus up in the little hole near the usb port (Reset Button) and wait till the screen says that the phone is going to format and all data will be lost press the soft key to continue. Then when it says that press the center button and it will show Fat formatting and Rom formatting. This will erase all data on your touch so make sure you back up.
After turn on the phone and go through the set up and it should be perfectly ok.
You can do this for two reasons.
1. To reset the phone locks.
2. To repair the touch screen if it stops working.
Hope this helps. Enjoy
Dotybizz, I guess the O/P wanted a way to recover without wiping his data. However, due to the security reasons I'm sure you know about often that isn't a suitable option.
Not working

solve = hard reset
for hard reset press volume down button + center button + red reset button
A Hard Reset restores the device to its default settings - the way it was when you first purchased it and turned it on. Any programs you installed, data you entered, and settings you customized on the device will be lost. Only Windows Mobile software and other pre-installed programs will remain.
There are 2 ways to perform a Hard Reset on this device:
Menu path
* 1. From the Today Screen, go to Start>Settings.Select the System Tab and then tap on Clear Storage.
* 2. Enter in the password provided on the display of the device (should be 1234) and tap Yes.
* 3. The device will begin the Master Reset Process.
Keystroke Method
* 1. Power the device off.
* 2. Press and hold the Volume Down and Center Navigation Button at same time, do not release.
* 3. Press Power button and hold for a 3 count (quickly - say one thousand one, one thousand two, one thousand three). 1-2 seconds is too short, 4-5 seconds is too long.
* 4. The screen will instantly show the text to hard reset (this is a white screen with Blue text that provides the next steps to complete the Hard Reset. If you do not get this screen, power the device off and try again).
* o Warning! Your device will be set back to factory default settings. Please ensure any additional installed programs and/or user data is backed up before proceeding.

satelite button?/deep freeze

hi guys..i wonder the hardware button with a little sattelite antenna under green call button is for starting gps program?if it is...can i reasign to let`s say igo?
i just want to know if someone of you knows about a program (like deep freeze in windows for pc)who can revert back to my initial program instalations and configs without hard reset?...cause hard reset wipe out every other program that i installed after rom install...
Go to Start/ Settings/ Buttons, Buton 1 should have the GPS icon against it, select this then at the bottom of the page where it says assign a program use the drop down box to select the application you want to open with the button - Mike
hey mike...as you probably see i am a newbie and i want to thank you very much for your quick help...yes i did it ...now i have another app on that button....
someone heared about a program( like deep freeze for pc)to revert my instalations and configs back after soft reset or after restart?
A soft reset will not wipe any data from your device, in fact soft resetting a PDA based phone is a regular event and not something to worry about.
Should you ever need to hard reset the device you will wipe everything and put it back to out of the box as new condition - to easily recover from this situation I use Sprite Back up. It can create self installing backup files so even when you are away from the PC you can still recover the PDA - Mike
well...thank you mike for your kindness and for being so helpful..i know about programs that make images from my device but i am looking for a program like deep freeze but for ppc.i am using this on my pc and i never had problems with viruses or odd programs behaviour. It keeps the same my configs and settings too.

Hard reset not working

After having thoroughly read the 280 pages of the UM of my Rhodium, I've tried several times (three digits number !) to hard-reset my machine, but alas, without success.
I've tried every possible combination of ON/START/STOP buttons but none works.
I either happen to make the message "do you want to switch off your mobile" (in french, as French am I) or the menu to activate ringer/vibrator etc to appear, but never ever got the ability to hard-reset my unit.
What's wrong with me/my Rhodium ?
Thx in advance mates !
Instructions on how to hard reset are in the wiki. Don't know what these "ON/START/STOP" buttons you mentioned are. The buttons involved in making a hard reset are the Power, Call Send, and Call End keys.
Alternatively, you can go to "Clear Storage" in your settings and follow the directions on screen.

You do know that you need to turn off the device first? Alternatively, do a "clear storage" as mentioned above, if you still have access to your device.

Yes, I do know, thank you for your response, and I tried either way unsuccessfully !
I do have access to my machine but needed it to be fully reset.
"clear storage" works fine, but that does not explain me why the "three finger salute" fails...
You are keeping the SEND and END keys down whilst you turn the POWER on aren't you? then releasing only when you see the tricolour screen
I updated the wiki page the other day to make the steps a bit clearer.
Give it antoher go .

Problems with Hard Reset on a Verizon Touch Pro 2
Hi Guys,
I've had my Verizon version of the phone since the beggining of the week and I cannot make a Hard Reset work either. The combination of Send/End/Power buttons do not work, and on my Verizon version there is no "Clear Storage" item under the system tab in settings. I've watched the U-Tube clip in the Wiki, and I note that HTC's site for the Verizon variant refers to using "Clear Storage".
Looking in the Windows directory there is a Clear Storage html file but there is no ClearStorage.exe. I have extracted a ClearStorage.exe from my Tilt and inserted it into the Windows directory of the Touch but to no avail.
Does anybody have a fix for this? Could this be another "exclusion" by Verizon to stop us working with our phones?
Sorry to insist, but you have turned the device completely OFF, right? So it's not just in "stand by/screen off" power saving mode, but completely off? So that when you press the power button, the phone starts loading WM etc.
Again, sorry to insist, but I couldn't figure out any other reason for the hard reset not to work.
Don't mind you insisting because this issue is stupid. Yes I have turned the phone completely off by pressing the End button until the phone states "Your phone will be turned off. Press No to cancel.
When I attempt the Hard reset it the phone merely restarts regardless of how long I press the buttons.
All this would not be so much of an issue if "Clear Storage" was available. Short of waiting for the first cooked ROM (and therefore Hard SPL) to appear for the CDMA phones, is there any way to put that back? Obviously it requires more than copying the .exe to the windows directory. My Tilt has a 6.5 cooked ROM. Is is possible that the .exe is slightly changed in that one vs 6.1?
Other Verizon phone owners - can you confirm that the "Clear Storage" is missing?
Edited:
On my Verizon, the Clear Storage is on the System tab, under 'Memory'. Select 'Memory' and select the Clear Storage sub tab.
Taken from ppcgeeks:
FOR VERIZON TP2 ONLY (Sprint & GSM have different settings)

I just confirmed that this works on a Verizon phone. I got the hard reset prompt with this key sequence.
For Verizon users that want to do the clear storage through the OS, it's located under Memory in Settings on the Clear Storage Tab.
Settings -> All Settings -> Memory -> Clear Storage
Happy formatting :-D
Thanks everyone
Thanks everyone for resolving this.
This is what HTC Touch Pro2 (Verizon) site says under FAQ "General & Others":
"Q. What does a Hard Reset do and how is it performed?
A hard reset removes all information from your device and returns it to a state just like it has never been used before. All contacts, messages, emails, 3rd party applications, etc. will need to be reinstalled after performing a hard reset. To perform a hard reset, navigate to Start > Settings > All Settings > System (tab) > Clear Storage. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete. This process will take 5-10 minutes".
Clearly no reference to being under the Memory Icon. The link is:
http://www.htc.com/us/faqs.aspx?p_id=294&cat=90&id=110490&f=t
Could we ask the moderator to arrange for the Wiki to be updated for the CDMA vcersions?
I have a Verizon TP2. Clear Storage on my phone is located at Settings/Memory and then the Clear Storage Tab. It asks you to enter a number to reset your phone and restore Verizon default settings.
Edit: Bah, guess I didnt see the second page )

HARD reset - changing phone

I've been trying to find the right information but struggling. I am having my Desire exchanged for a new one as mine has a minor fault. T-mobile have been great in getting this exchanged.
My issue is that I want to be able to store all my information somewhere first and I think I know how to do that on to the SD card.
My more important issue is to be able to delete all the information from the phone after my backup so things like my facebook details, gmail and everything else is deleted. Will a HARD reset do this and how do I do that? Is there a different way to perform a full reset to ensure everything is gone?
|Thanks...
Factory restore/hard reset, and then you'll need to format the SD card (or remove everything on it)
Turning automatic backup on:
1. From the Home screen, press MENU, and then tap Settings.
2. Scroll down the screen, and then tap Privacy > Back up my data & settings.
3. Select or clear the Back up my data & settings check box to turn automatic backup on or off.
After you do a factory reset, your phone will restart and let you restore the saved data and settings in your storage card back to your phone.
Your phone backs up the following types of data and settings whenever there are new additions or changes:
* Text and multimedia messages
* Settings in the Messages application
* Web bookmarks
* Keyboard dictionary
* Settings in your phone that fall under these categories:
o Wireless & networks
o Sound & display
o Location
o Applications
o Date & time
o Language & keyboard - only the Locale setting
Performing a factory reset (hard reset):
This returns your phone to the state it was in before the first time you turned it on (factory settings).
Note: Factory reset will not remove the data and files that are in your phone’s microSD card.
This will permanently delete all your data and customized settings, and will also remove any applications you've downloaded and installed. Be sure to back up any data and files you want to keep before you do a factory reset.
Performing a factory reset via settings:
The most convenient way to do a factory reset is via the phone settings.
1. From the Home screen, press MENU and then tap Settings.
2. Scroll down the screen and then tap Privacy > Factory data reset.
3. On the Factory data reset screen, tap Reset phone, and then tap Erase everything.
Performing a factory reset using phone buttons:
If you cannot turn on your phone or access the phone settings, you can still perform a factory reset by using the buttons on the phone.
1. With the phone turned off, press and hold the VOLUME DOWN button, and then briefly press the POWER button.
2. Wait for the screen with the three Android images to appear, and then release the VOLUME DOWN button..
3. Press VOLUME DOWN to select CLEAR STORAGE, and then press POWER.
4. Press VOLUME UP to start the factory reset.

Out of interest and as there have been few negatives about this phone, what was the fault you are exchanging for?
Thanks

I rang them up to say the battery life was absolutely dreadful. They said give it a few days to see if building up the charge for a few days combined with the "new phone and let's play with all the new features" syndrome settled the battery life. It hasn't and they suggested either sending a second battery or exchanging the phone. I went for the exchange....
Apart from that, the phone has been absolutely brilliant. Really pleased with almost everything. My only two hmmm's have been that skype don't do their own app for Android and that the F1 app for the iphone isn't available on android (despite its $29 cost!!!)
Thanks. I'll be real interested to learn if the exchange phone improves your bettery life - be sure to let us know!
I bought a HTC desire from Virgin mobile uk which uses t-mobiles network. I had problems with the browser force closing where it started and then quit. I spoke to HTC and then was advised to perform a hard reset using recovery mode. I put the phone in recovery and then immediately got a phone picture with the exclamation mark... i had to remove the battery and tried it again. same problem.
I have found that the second phone i had did exactly the same when i tried to put it in recovery mode..ouch
I'm going to do the backup first so I hope I'll have the info saved..... that's a weird problem you have.
I will let you know how I get on with the replacement but it will have to be when I get back from OZ......
I was hoping to find a pay as you go sim card to put in but my phone is locked to tMobile and also it seems in Australia their data plans are just not there yet...
