Need Help regarding Cingular 8525 Unlocked.

Hello All,
I am Krishna. Recently i bought Cingular 8525 Unlocked. I want to use it in India. Now i am in LA.
I am confused with my device. I am new to Pocket PC. In some sites i read it as HTC Tytn, in some sites it is HTC Hermes. Can you plz explain actually what it is? Also
- Is it same as HTC Wizard?
- The OS is Windows Mobile 5. Now windows Mobile 6 is available. Can i upgrade my device to Windows Mobile 6? Is it compatible with WM6? If yes, can you plz provide the link of that information. and how to upgrade to WM6.
- Plz help me to install new softwares, applications,games in that.
- Also i am confused with the term ROMs. How can I use that? i downloaded some softwares using torrent sites. But i dont know how to install them.
Please help me in this regard. In two weeks i am leaving to India. Before going there, i want to make my device upto-date with latest softwares.
Actually i don't know whether I can posted this thread here or not. If this is not the right place to post, plz advice where to post.

The Cingular 8525 is the HTC Hermes aka the HTC TyTN.
If you read the threads in the HTC Hermes section, you'll find everything you need to know about the ROMs available for your phone and links as to where to find them.
The ROMs contain the Operating System, aka WM5 or WM6 that you are looking for.
But -- first and foremost -- READ, READ, READ.

HTC Tytn, HTC Hermes, and cingular 8525 is the same phone. Just some cosmetic differences (except the front camera for video calling)... this is not the same as the wizard, that is a different phone.

There are several different versions of the WM6 for the phone you have, just look in the hermes WM6 thread.

If you have the software in the form of a cab file then just transfer the file to your phone, use the file explorer in your phone to locate the new cab and tick on it to install it.

Just read about Office Mobile6.1 upgrade! Does this apply to us who have cooked ROMS?

I'm currently using Meshle's O2 Premium Plus ROM. Does this WM6.1 free upgrade apply to us, or do we already have this upgrade in our ROMS. See the link below:

i wouldn't think of why it wouldn't work unless one of the developers of the cooked roms installed the current office mobile some different way....

Hi I am using Marks rom.
I think this has 6.1 already.
Run Exel mobile and then about to see what version you have.

Hey itje do you want office 2007 oem to upgrade your rom ? (cooking wise i mean)

Ohh!!I cannot run windows live went I upgrade to WM6

I updated my X51V to WM6 (football)
But I cannot use the windows live....... what should i do now?
It said I haven connect to the internet....but i have connected........
It also said.....this windows live is for old version......may not can run in this version.

have you tried the cab for the newest version? maybe installing that would repair any problems, has worked for me before. its here on xda somewhere, a thread for windows live...

sorry to say, but i really cant help ya there, maybe someone else has a few ideas...sorry.
EDIT: try asking the chef who made the rom, and search the thread for your rom for anyone else experiencing this problem. what have you installed/done/changed since you flashed?

yes, you have to hard-spl your device first. please use the forums search...

It even does not work with hardspl on my device. All ather i can flash. So what is this?

Yes, it's the same OS and Splash, but no SPL and Radio.

i can not run advancedconfig, it says that i haven't installed the newest version of .net compact framework.
can anybody help me?

i must have the opera.cab file inside the rom, couse there are some settings made, for the live! portal.

you can try my cooked german ROM based on the new shipped HTC ROM with all german Vodafone settings from latest official ROM.

The opera cab wont help you because there are many settings in the provxml
in Operator package.

can anybody confirm following behaviour:
for a city added by weatherdatabase editor no data can be downloaded anymore... the city code is the right one, all is set up properly as in other roms before... but it don't work no longer in this rom (for me ) (the citys on stock were found and downloaded correctly)

Might want to post what provider you have. At least which RHOD phone you have would be helpful for people to know.

Yes, I know. But I figured someone out there might be looking for a ROM. You can never tell...
That said, I have done that before and didn't realize the time lapse.
