Hi all.
I need a small software where can Ichange the network settings very fast.
In the moment I activate at home with the comm manager wifi. When i go out, I turn wifi off. Then I change my network settings (start - settings - connections - connections - advanced - choose network) I change it from "My work network" to O2. Then I can use internet by GPRS.
Is there an easier way? Maybe a software (freeware)?

Can I turn off the automatic wifi to Gprs when there is no wifi? or is there a manual switch. I seem to find I loose my wifi connection and then it jumps to gprs, where I dont want to do that.
Also is there any way of knowing how much I have downloaded or uploaded? or any good tools that you know will help me with this?
and....
If I want to listen to MP3 music while its in my pocket, how do I lock the buttons and screen while listening to music?
many thanks
Hi zakeen.
I had the same problem - I wanted to manually turn on the gprs.
I posted this on the Networking Thread recently:......
------------------
I have found where I can stop it from connecting the GPRS if it cant get a wi-fi conncetion. Connections icon on the connections tab (under settings), then the advanced tab, then the select networks button - "programs that automaticall connect to the internet..........". I have changed this from gprs to my isp.
------------------
I use this for the GPRS download tracking.

And you can lock the buttons by going into the settings menu and selecting system tab, then the button lock icon.
Hope this helps
Ian
Thanks I will have to try this GPRS pro, sounds good looking at it.
Hi Everyone,
How do I disable gprs on my phone ? it keeps randomly connecting too it and I dont want to use gprs just the wireless side. If you could help it would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers.
GB Soft tweak will do the trick - it puts a disconnect button in the task bar when GPRS is connected and allows a bit of configuration. Can't remember where it came from (free !!) but do a search and you'll find it.
To disable GPRS select - start, settings, connections tab, then click on connections icon, and then onto the advanced tab. Press Select Networks button and then change the top drop down menu to "My Work Network" and voila, GPRS always disconnected.
Thank you very much for your help guys. Ill just have to see if it works now.
G'day
I have been using my XDA2s for 6 months now and the worst thing I have found is switching between different network connections.
When i am on the road I use GPRS, in our offices WiFi, and at home USB, but i have not yet found an easy way to swap from one to another. After I go into Wireless Manager (which i have set to the ie button), i select the method, but still need to go into Network Settings -> Advanced -> Select Networks, and change the connection that the Internet uses.
Am I missing something here, or is this what everyone goes through. I should add that i mainly use the network for ActivSync'ing to our Exchange 2003 Server.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Paul
Doesn't sound normal; if wifi is on all the time the manager should intelligently select between wifi if it's available or GPRS if it isn't. USB I don't think is managed intelligently, but I might be wrong there; I don't use it.
Do you have it automatically connecting to unprotected wifi networks? Is the wifi at work encrypted or no? What happens when you walk into the hotspot, does the wireless manager change from GRPS to wifi? Stupid question: Do you keep wifi on all the time?
Chris
Hi
No, dont have it accessing any network in range. This is what i do, let me know if its wrong:
On the road when i want to ActivSync, i go into Wireless Manager, and press the GPRS button, then go into Network Management -> Advanced, drop down the "Internet should connect using" and select the Vodafone-GPRS Settings option. Then open up ActiveSync and Sync. I have noticed, if later on the if i just go into ActiveSync and Sync it connects to the internet without having to go into the Wireless Manager. But if i have in the meantime connected to a Wifi network then it doesnt.
When I go into our offices, i go into Wireless Manager, and press the WLAN button, then go into Network Management -> Advanced, drop down the "Internet should connect using" and select the "My Work Network. Then open up ActiveSync and Sync
In My Work Network, i have nothing setup/ticked except for "This Network Connects to the Internet".
In Vodafone-GPRS Settings I have a GPRS modem (Vodafone) setup, and the "This Network Connects to the Internet" ticked.
Paul
The wireless manager should be switching between wifi and GPRS automatically. I don't use Activesync (I'm on a Mac), so I don't know anything about the syncing.
Try keeping the wifi connection on all the time. When you want to use GPRS, just leave the wifi on (which will have no connection if you aren't jumping between hotspots). Don't go into the manager. The wireless manager should realise there is no active wifi connection and then drop down to using GPRS instead.
Try that, tell me how it goes.
Chris
G'day
I preformed a full backup, then cold reset the unit. After that I just let it auto-configure to Vodafone, an presto it works. Docked, WiFi, and GPRS without having to go into the advance setttings every time. Although I will turn of WiFi after 5mins not being used - cant afford by battery to die (normally use it as a phone for over 3hrs a day).
Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction.

I just upgraded to WM6 i can connect using wifi for mail and such but IE wont work. it wont connect. I dont have a data plan currently so i cant/wont test that part out. Any clue as to why IE wont connect like this? o and im also new here, been around a little while but just stayed quit trying to learn more lol.
Same Issue Here
Same problem here after upgrading to wm6 but no subscription for internet access with AT&T:
I can access my email but have no chance to configure the modem for wifi access. It always remains grayed out "Cellular Line (GPRS , 3G).
Here is the steps I took so far:
Settings - Connections - Connections - Taks MEdia Net is selected.
Advanced - Select Networks is set to MEdia Net
Edit - MEdia Net - Enter a name for the connection: MEdia NET > Linksys
Select a modem: "Cellular line (GPRS , 3G) This is where I have problems to select my "Linksys" connection because the Select a modem is grayed out and not changeable.
What did I miss? Why is it downloading my email but IE is not working.
ok, now it works
I must have missed to disable proxy.
Go to Start - Programs - Proxy manager - Disable Proxy
after a few seconds IE should work through your local WiFi connection.
Thanks that fixed everything
Is this possible? Due to the peculiarities of my bebox router, every device on my my network needs to have OpenDNS set up on it, and I can't see that its possible to do this on the Desire. Anyone? I'm able to connect to the internet using mobile internet, but not wifi. Help!
Try Wireless and network settings -> Wifi settings -> press menu button -> Advanced.
Great, thanks, that did the trick! It didn't occur to me to press the menu button on the wifi settings screen.
