I have modified/removed the startupanimation settings in the registry multiple times, but every time I reboot the phone, that horrible animation is back and so are the registry entries. Has anyone figured out a way to disable the animation in wm6? Apparently, someone at AT&T decided they didn't like us turning that off.

The startup animation uses the following files (if you've got the stock AT&T startup):
StartupAnimationEngine.dll
3G Up_01_1.gif
3G_Up.wav
And the following registry settings:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\HTC\StartupAnimation]
"GIFFile"="\\Windows\\3G Up_01_1.gif"
"WAVFile"="\\Windows\\3G_Up.wav"
"Enabled"=dword:1
"Volumn"=dword:0000022
You should be able to change "Enabled" to 0 and turn if off.
Thanks, worked like a charm.
Thanks for the quick reply, but as you can see from my initial post, I have already tried changing the registry settings. It's not working. I make the change, reset the phone, the animation still plays and when I go back into the registry, the changes aren't there anymore.

Can i put my own vids in place of the [email protected] stuff? Just asking
Looks like it would be pretty easy to replace that GIF and WAV file with ones of your own.
edit:
Bah, tried replacing the WAV with one of my own and ended up with the animation but no sound. Oh well, its disabled now.

First post- total newbie- but I was just reading through
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_FAQs
and came across the following which may be of help:
I've edited some things in the registry, however, after softreset, all changes have been lost.
A: After you have edited the registry, turn off your device, wait 10-15 seconds, then (while it is still off), press the soft reset button. In this way, your changes will be saved.
Looks like something was wrong with my phone. Maybe because I cancelled the at&t setup. I did a clear memory and let the at&t customizations run and set the reg key again and this time it took. I'll have to look further into what was causing this. Thanks.

No, ur probably just using the bottom botton to reset arent you? That will not save any settings. You have to use the power button. 15 sec isnt needed, jsut turn it back on immediately.
Sorry I left that part out - it's easy to forget and assume it's well known...
For some reason, the registry hive doesn't get saved immedietly following a change with a registry editor. The only way I know for sure is to hold the power button to power off, then back on (not time dependent). There may be some other way to get the registry to store changes, but the proper power cycle (NOT WITH THE SOFT-RESET!) is a sure-fire way.
That's weird. I have never had that problem before. Oh well, that's good information to have. At least i have everything working now. I reset again and cancelled the customizations and then modified the preconfig.txt file and the xml files to install a modified version of the at&t customizations and all is well. I have all the correct network settings minus that annoying proxy setting on the web and all that music and tv bloat.
Thats a great tip and it worked like a charm thanks for posting the info.

Everytime I get an incoming call, I always need to use the job wheel and turn the in call volume up to the highest level (its currently one below that on every incoming call).. how do I get the phone to save the volume setting to always be on the highest level?
Same problem here. I would be interested in that too.
Same problem. But only after reboot, until that it's saved. (using Dutty's WM6 Premium)
same prob, only in reboot. Goes back to one below full. Using vpg wm6 3.0
Try a program called "phone alarm". The in-call volume level is one of its profile configuration options. It works pretty well.
Yeah, but why do I need to install a damn program just so it remembers my settings? Thats not a very good solution Doesnt phonealarm have a bunch of today screen and other crap I probably wont use?

Exactly. I don't need any profile app, because I use just Sound On/Off. Why should I waste memory? In addition, I do reboot 2-3 x a week, so it is not a huge problem. Altough some elegant solution would be welcome.
Anyone else have any suggestions besides phonealarm?
Same problem. All versions of WM6 seem to have this problem. Looking for solution too.
Hopefully its fixed in the final version... or, someone finds a solution..
I'd suggest (and I don't have to do it this weekend as doing my loft and have a new phone to sort out too) that someone does a full Reg dump from standard install and then same after that software (which I've never used) is installed and the settings sorted and phone rebooted - and then uses windiff or simlar to find out what's changed.
It should be fairly easy to isolate the reg setting that does the trick, if it is actually a reg setting that we're after.
It could be a reg setting that resets itself after a boot (like the landscapeoffonratation setting) or it might not. If it's not, we're in business. If it is it'll be a bit more complex but still probably still doable.
If someone can isolate that reg setting it's an easy business to either cook it into a rom as it'll just need a rgu file, or to put it into a cab.
Maybe a solution
Hi all,
I would suggest playing around with those registry keys:
HKCU/ControlPanel/Notifications/ShellOverrides
and there the following value: SavedVolume
and
HKCU/ControlPanel/Volume
and there the following value: Volume
Didn't try any other value for myself, just a hint
for all thos around who want to try and maybe report
if you have success

Hi,
I hope to get some help, as this problem start to make me crazy !
I go to Settings - System - Backlight - Battery Power, Check checkbox and set timeout to 30 sec.
All is OK.
I press "Power" button (or wait till ppc auto switch off), then, when I switch PPC back on ....
Bam! : time out is back to 10 sec
I tried to change settings for "external power", but problem does not happen.
It must be linked to an application, cause I made a backup and hard reset, problem was gone. After restore, problem was back.
As I have a lot of apps installed and configured, it's a pain to restart.
I tried to remove all links from "\windows\Startup" and all today plugin, but no change.
I checked notifications with FDC task manager 2.7, but the only event that could be related (NOTIFICATION_EVENT_WACKUP) is linked to prog "\\.\Notifications\NamedEvent\TimeWizardWakeup"
Is there anyway to know what is launched at wakeup (registry ?).
I've Schaps 3.57a installed
Thanks a lot for any help

Hi.
As you say you can view the lauched apps after wakeup in notifications queue.
Anyway, seems the issue is related to some app you install before the OS, so you can do some research installing step by step every app and doing deep test on every install.
I have Schaps 3.54b ESN and don't have any issue with power or black light.
Regards.
I had this problem months ago when using the original stock WM5 ROM that came with my device. There is some evidence that it is caused by PhoneAlarm.
There are fixes for it by making reg changes. I fixed my problem by deleting this entire key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ControlPanel\BackLight \LockLevel\LockLevel
But you might be able to fix it by setting the value to 0.
You can find historical info by searching the Hermes forums and child forums for 'LockLevel'.
FWIW, I had no problems with phoneAlarm after making the change, so if you are using it, you CAN continue to do so after deleting that key.
Hope this helps...good luck.

Setting this value to 0 solved my problem
In my case, I never installed phonealarm, but I suspect rather PocketZenPhone.
I tried different version, but I always had problem with it on my TyTN (but all was OK on my magician, I even registred it).

Thanks XDA. My problem solved...
Need some advice. My program menu on my xda keeps whiting out.
On an initial start (or after editing the program list) the program list (or start menu) displays fine.
On the 2nd click some icons start doubling up at the bottom and fill the screen.
The on the 3rd click it goes off the bottom of the screen and goes completely white!
What gives? I've editing the number of items, looking in the registry at start menu opetions, deleting programs, but nothing solves it.
Performance etc not hampered but its really annoying. It MIGHT have started after installing a c++ cube program launcher (not sure).
if anyone has ideas to fix it please let me know.
TIA Sean
Hey I just had that exact same issue earlier. I was editing my \Windows\start Menu\Programs folder and making some adjustments when i noticed it happening. I kinda narrowed it down to being something to do with HButton. I was fiddling with the Hbutton display options just after modifying the programs folder. After more fiddling with the HButton display (changing colour and position) and a soft reset, my Start menu started working fine again and I havent had any problems with it again so far.
Probably nothing at all to do with it but thats what seems to have fixed mine as i didnt touch anything else but HButton and it is now resolved.
hope this helps in some way
[EDIT] completely ignore what I just put above, its just happeed again. The only thing I have done this time is Activesync and install a game. Kinda thinking it has something to do with Activesync now.......
lol oh well i guess i'll have to put up with it for now then. half a mind to send it back to O2 but its a software bug, I'll get the problem on the next phone as well.
Try to see in Memory the program values.
In my experience when tou have few program memory, start and today redrow is very difficult.
It happened me some times ago when i tryed a rom with problems of memory allocation.
You can try another rom (today you have many chose )

Well considering my phone is one a month old I dont think I'll be flashing the rom JUST yet.
And update: for some reason the start menu is back to normal behavior! Absolutely no idea why. Just when i was getting used to it as well.
Never Miss SMS Again - This tweak will enable you to never miss an SMS message again, it will enable fast blinking mode on new SMS messages that are recieved so you will never miss those important ones!!In the registry simply change the following values -
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Sounds\SMS
change the default value to - pf1w99999f0
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Sounds\Keypress
Change the default value to - pf0

After trying to do this, I messed up my phone. It no longer alerts me when I recieve text messages. Also, it won't let me go into my Sound settings from the Setting option.
Someone please help! What is the default value to those two parameters? Thank you in advance!
can anyone please help!?
You guys must be kidding me! All this other tech. support and no one can take not even ONE minute to look in their reg. and get me the default value's for the above fields. Come on guys! It'll take not even 1 minute to do so! Please help out.
Can't Access Sounds Settings
Even after a hard reset on my Dash I can't access my sounds settings. I can access all other settings except this. I am pretty stumped. I think I am going to try the htc rom unless someone else has an idea. This has me concerned though as the hard reset should have fixed it. It also pretty much locks up the phone when I do it. I can answer calls and such, but I can't open any programs.
Whelp, I tried the update and still no dice. Phone has been great until now. This actually really pisses me off. I can't deal with not being able to change sounds.
Finally figured it out! It was trying to read the memory card which had a movie on it and use the movie as a ringtone option. I still don't know how to turn that off, but at least I know how to be able to change sounds when I need to.
Thanks !!!!!
... for this tip. I already hard-resetted my device twice. I don't know why this happens, but now I know what to do.

No sound for Reminders (T-Mobile WM6)
Hi,
I just installed the new WM6 ROM on my Dash, and the Reminders will no longer play a sound, only vibrate. From Settings->Sounds, changing the sound for reminders does not play it like it does for other settings (Ring tone, New e-mail, etc.). The Menu->Play option from the screen will not play the sound if Reminders is selected.
Anyone else running the new ROM having the same issue?
I am -- thought it was because I was trying to use my own sounds, WMA files that worked fine on WM5. After reading your post, tried changing the reminder sound to anything built into ROM, and found it to be as you described... Hmmm... Maybe it's 'final release candidate' ROM?

Me too!
Ack, I thought this happened because I had been tweaking the registry since I upgraded. If my memory serves me correctly, the alarms worked just after I upgraded, but then they stopped working after I did registry tweaks for several different things. I'll have to go back and remove the changes one by one to see which one did the dirty deed.
Here are the changes that I remember making:
Disable the slider sounds: /HKCU/ControlPanel/JogBar/Settings/EnablePlaySound
Used SetJogBar to re-enable the Joggr functionality
Made the change to enable Voice Command over my BT headseat:
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Bluetooth\AudioGateway\BTA GExtModule
I probably did some others, but am not remembering them right now.
B0gey & Chaz: did you make registry changes before you noticed the reminder function stopped working?
C.
I did, but couldn't tell you if it worked before I made these changes, as I hadn't tried changing sounds yet.
HKLM\Security\Policies\Policies\00001005 = 40
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MAPI] (this doesn't work in WM6)
--"AttachPath"="\\Storage Card\\Inbox\\Attachments"
--"PropertyPath"="\\Storage Card\\Inbox"
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Bluetooth\A2DP\Settings
--UseJointStereo set to 0
The only one that seemed to be sound related was the bluetooth change, so I put it back to 1 to rule it out as being related, no change.
I'd be more inclined to think a registry entry to have an effect on all sounds, not just the reminder one?
I haven't touched the registry (or modified any sound settings) at all. I noticed it this morning when a reminder was set to go off and instead of hearing the sound I expected it vibrated.
******* Fix Is Here *******
I spent about 2 minutes in the Registry and found the offending registry value...
Go into the following Key
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\SoundCategories\Reminder\
and set the 'InitVol' value from 0 to 2
You will have reminders again, without reboot
I sure hope they aren't launching with this firmware
Thanks... worked, but '2' is a different volume than the rest of the stuff in my Default Profile, looks like you can go up as high as 5? I did, seems to match. Odd there isn't a way to control the Reminder volume level without going into the registry. The Profile volume settings had no effect on it.

Yes, it looks very much like a bug. The profile volume settings should change that, but apparently don't in this version.
mine work fine. I just checked my reg setting and it wasn't 0, it was 3.
I changed a couple settings in my Normal profile and that's it - all from the menu.

My TP2 kept vibrating after a missed call despite there being no tick in the sounds and notifications option for it. I successfully stopped it in fixing the option off in the registry, however now I have no number indicating the number of missed calls in the blue icon in sense 2.5.
I have put the part of the registry back as it was however the number is still not showing after any missed calls and I cannot find anything in the registry that looks obvious to fix this?
Please help!
Thanks
Have you tried a simple soft reset?
Not hard reset - that wipes all the data on the device. Soft reset, just pull the battery cover and hit the little red 'reset' pin.
If that doesn't work, you might have to get more drastic.
I've reset the phone a number of times but this hasn't worked. I even have a touch pro 1 and have been comparing parts of the registry but I haven't managed to find anything.
I don't understand how changing the windows notification settings can break sense, especially after putting the registry value back as it was.
Really don't want to hard reset as it always takes me many many hours to reconfigure everything exactly as I like even with importing some settings.
Anyone??
Still haven't sorted this i know it's just going to be some hidden registry key...
bump for help
Don't use Sense? lol
Honestly tho, it sounds like it's time to pillage. Good luck.
Not yet, it can't be that difficult I know someone who's cooked sense roms probably knows key registry key.
bumping again
bump I though I could manage without this feature but I didn't pay attention to the light and some missed calls went unnoticed

Maybe change the thread title so it actually makes sense? Most people won't respond to posts that have a thread title that mentions nothing of the issue, and only begs for help...
But honestly you've waited for weeks now and you could've just hard reset and rebuilt all your little tweaks. Assuming you backed stuff up properly, you shouldn't have to restore much at all
I can't see an option to do that in thread tools but please change it as you feel necessary; I wasn't expecting it to be such a difficult fix. There are so many tweaks in Wm 6.5 that can't simply be backed up, settings within sub menus within sub menus that take a while just to find, as well as settings such as those in Advanced Config although I have just noticed the xml export feature there.

Yes, there's a way to backup pretty much everything. Then of course you run the risk of restoring the thing that broke it, lol.
Either way, on the first post edit it, then click 'go advanced'. This should let you edit the title...
