First of all, i would like to say thank you for a most excellent forum, and wiki, I just got a O2 XDA 2s, WMP6 went on like a charm, fully working, VERY happy.
Now, a question, whats a good web browsers to use? PIE is ok, but kinda laggy, Opera is good, but i don't want to pay $24, The mobile firefox is just.. bad... any ideas?
Thanks in advance!
IE is just fine...according to me, of course
Try Opera Mini, its free and the new beta is a must try.
Thanks for your replays, as i said IE is fine, but, i was looking for something better.
Opera Mini 4 is wonderful, Only thing that bugs me is the text input, but i imagine thats because its for small screened phones.
I do wish flash would work in it, it really bugs me that the best there is is V7, unless i'm wrong?
On another note, is there a free way to set MP3's as ring tones on WM6?

That I wouldn't recommend. It's been my experience that if the phone is in sleep mode, it doesn't 'wake the SD card' quick enough to always be able to access it to pull the files.
More than once, I had a call play the default ring tone vs the mp3 I had set it to use.
NetFront is the best for Windows Mobile. http://www.access-company.com/products/netfrontmobile/index.html
Thanks again! Mp3's all working!
Im trying out netfront, it seems good, but it wont play nice with my Wifi's login, and as of yet, i dont have a data plan or anything, and the GPRS wont work on the network its on atm, hopefully changing soon!
Ill give it another go tommorow!

I know that 4.1 is only just out & I think it's brilliant. I'm spending every evening checking new posts and playing with my phone like never before. So, before the 4.1 thread becomes the next thread with 1200 posts, I thought I'd start a new thread for ideas for 4.2
Tom - before I found the magic that is B&B I was using Wisbar Advance desktop and an application called innesoft address book which had a great feature that when someone called you, their photo was displayed full screen with their name (see thumbnails) rather than just the standard windows window.
Any chance you could devlelop something similar for 4.2 !!!
Cheers

Have a pretty much full screen keyboard for texting in landscape mode? The text appears at the top?
Is there a way we can assign a button to lock the phone rather than go thruogh the menu?

Anybody knows if it is legal to include trial versions of apps in cooked rom?
Was thinking rom with included sktools, english dictionary of some kind, IM+, resco explorer, spb gprs monitor included on rom would save time and space. Apps included would be trial versions and ppl haveing bought them could just enter activation keys/serials, others could buy app if thy liked it.

This would be a waste of time and energy for most, these Roms are made to be efficient, the least amount of space used so that you as an individual can place your desired programs, once a rom is built there is no removing/uninstalling of any apps, hence the reason to not put trial versions into a rom, I use several of the above mentioned, but to "Bloat" a rom with them would be ineffecient. Best thing to do is install on your sd card, keep all your initial install cabs in one folder and use that as your rebuild folder. Cheers.

Is it not worth remembering that everyone has a different list of killer apps they MUST have on their device?
If Tom & Meschle etc added every app - the rom would only just fit on a 40gb hard disk!!!
To my mind - the idea is that the cooked roms are a basis onto which you install your own apps to make your own device work?
Constanlty asking for new apps to be added to a rom just complicates the issue. Or am I wrong?
something so i can remotly use my desktop via PPC
then im complete
automated network setup like in the O2 WM6 Premium 1.0 WWE rom
Extended timers & alarms application
I'd like to avoid installing SpbTime on each version
Great job!
OK, i agree, rom should be as slim as possible, but why the hell there is cube, psshutXP, PHM regedit/traylaunch, and office mobile on it then?
Could make an ultra lite wersion. (=
P.S. Dont get me wrong, i think 4.1 is great and it is a lot faster than O2. Just throwing around ideas about how to make it better.
with my original post, I was not really asking for a copy of the app, just would like a much bigger photo to pop up with caller id and liked the look of the inesoft one.
Tom - what do you think?
Just trying to make the ROM easier to use, more efficient.
B&B 4.1 is far better than original ROM from this point of view
TouchFlo for example helps to have everything we need with a single finger move..
Phone app is a lot more usable also.
Perhaps also the possibility to customize HTC Home by default, with more options (number of apps in the launcher, ..)
i don't think that is constructive to add as much apps, i can imagine, when it's released, everbody is shouting "this is not good" and "why did you use this app and not the other one"...and so one. I like it clear, not too much apps...but that's my opinion.
If i want it with all apps included then i start (to learn ) cooking my own ROM... IMHO i am very satisfied with the work that Tom is doing for us all. And 4.1 is just released. Enjoy it and let Tom make a break. He is hard working all the time!
Plugins for new version
Alarms extension (SpbTime style)
USB PenDrive emulator (WMstorage style)
Phone call recording (Audio Recorder style)
Thanks for B&B! Great job!
i have a great idea
Why dont we support Tom and all off his hard work and all the other wizards here, and stop complaining or asking for more.

Improving File access
What I would like to see is the File Dialog Changer, I don't know who has heard of it but it is very good! Usually when you want to save files or open them in any application you get access to you My Documents folder. Only some smart apps like TCPMP and others have the option to access your entire pda.
File Dialog Changer changes the way you access your files in opening and saving them for every application, it's just 50 KB and you can activate / deactivate it in System Settings.

And about your wish I can only say that there is already Remote Desktop for WM6, I think I've downloaded it in the Wizard forum. Or use PocketVNC, that is the pda version for VNC. I am successfully using that with TightVNC on my computer. I just have to be in range of my WLAN and can turn on my computer by sending a wake on lan signal (not with vnc) and then access my computer through pocketvnc or access the files on my computer.

I think he had a point though. In the whole thread there is not one message of Tom Codon himself. Did you ask what he thinks? Maybe he has a few ideas of his own? After all, it will be his ROM...
Who says it will be B&B v4.2? Why not 4.3 or 5.0? If there will be another version let him take care of the numbers.
Hi all, just got my second dash, and wanna flash to wm6.1. Main reason, I want threaded SMS, that's really all I want out of it. I will mainly be using my phone as an mp3 player (with a2dp headphones), for texting, email, internet surfing, and gaming (pocketNester )
I was trying to follow the directions here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=415225 But the following link won't let me download the sim application unlocker, it keeps saying page not found
http://www.mediafire.com/?egm0z1vnbh0
Any ideas? My phone is a Rogers locked s621, not sure if that makes a difference.
Also, I know there are the main 4 6.1 Roms, I read what they offered, and they all seemed like they would work for me. One I saw had an app in it for overclocking, which may be nice to speed up my phone for pocketnester, but from what I can recall, this app can be installed to any ROM.
From the pics, the Rose rom by Ricky and Stylez seems the coolest looking, I guess because of the chrome theme. Anyways, any suggestions as to my rom choice are greatly appreciated, and a solution for the app unlocker. I would go with what ever rom was easiest, as this will be my first time doing this. Hope to be able to do this by tomorrow evenign, thanks a lot everyone

IGO8 - without a doubt. Excellent performance, looks gorgeously on big Touch HD screen, great visual style, lots of cool features! Overall, I found IGO8 to be much better then TomTom, Ndrive or Garmin.

Yes it is. You need to convert your files to .wav format and copy them into Windows folder. After that, they will be available to pick when selecting ring tones for any event.

Best performance for divx files can be achieved by using Core player. If you feel like recoding, it's recommended to use FLV container, with xvid codec. This seems to get best results. Depending on the movie, it's also possible to enjoy standard torrent divx rips directly via Core player, without recoding.

Touch Flo 3D Today screen is rather stiff. You can have more appointments by sliding the clock upwards, to make it smaller. However, there's no way to get messages display there. However, recently there has been some development here on XDA, allowing users to have a special tab for standard Windows Mobile Home screen - and you can install bunch of other apps for this, so you might find what you want after all.

Better in what way? As far as I know, you can only change text size, and that's only when you open up the message. Also, if you click on the message body when previewed in Messages tab, it will open up new Rhodium style messaging (not the default WinMo, like when you click on "All messages").

Anyway I have only been working on it for a few weekends and some week nights but i think its coming along nicely. I thought Id bring it here to see if anybody would be interested in helping test it out and like i said... maybe give some guidance.

Hi Timmy
First congrats for your work and your sharing. It's revolutionary in it's design!
After playing a bit I can see room for improvement:
1 enlarge the fonts
2 pressing play 2nd time pauses but the icon doesn't change
3 add volume control
4 add exit button
5 add stop button
6 add a screen off option to save power
In the minimised view:
7 the sliding effect seems reversed because the slider is not moving, consider a wheel effect (with or without slider)
8 shuffling through directories is not very responsive, I found the best response when swiping my fingernail on the top or the bottom of the central slider.
9 the directories names are hidden by the finger, maybe move them above the slider
10 enhance Dpad functionality : right/left are ok, up/down should switch dirs (now they behave like right/left) and action button should play/pause (now it's not responsive)
This is it for now
I wouldn't have bothered writing so much if I didn't think it has the potential to become a leading app, so keep up (I also think you are going to get more involved than you thought )
Big thanks !
Nice App run perfectly on my Axim x51 running WM6

Thanks for your suggestions! ...
all good ideas!
for 1. i Like the idea of seeing as much of the text as i can on the page which is why they are soo small but i have been thinking about increasing the size, especially for lower resolution devices.
2. I do need to implement this,
3. I intially liked the idea of just using the system volume but i might add to see if i like it
4. for my 6.5.1 rom when i minimize it brings up the x button, i didnt think about how 6.5.3 looks
6. again for my rom i just hit the power button and it turns that backlight off, but i will try to add this.
7. Im still trying to figure out exactly how i want this view to work... I really just wanted a Quick way to go through all the album art. Hopefully i can pull something off here
8. The sliding art just works by grabbing the center albumart and then moving it in the direction you want it to go. and if you slide it all the way over and keep your finger on the screen it will keep going until you lift up...
but like i said this MIGHT change
9. i will definately be moving some text around
10. i havent set anything up for the dpad... its just manipulating the listbox that had focus last. This will change
Im about 400 miles away from my main desktop so i havent done any more work on it... but i have been setting up my 6 year old laptop with all the mobile sdk's to hopefully keep the project running the next couple weeks till i can get back home
Thanks for the detailed answer mate, by the way on my build power button stops the music and for the rest, good luck but don't forget to enjoy your holiday
Installed the player in my device with WM 6.5.3 and it works very well.
Besides the points mentioned by Tito i would suggest an exit button as i have to slide down to reveal the taskbar and then close the player from there. On this bulid no exit button comes up.
Also ...is there an option to save playlists?

Yup, feel a fool.... I found it after posting, but I notice that Claus1953 did not like it either. Thank you for taking the time to reply.
I like your approach to the GUI design though. Up until now I have been using S2P from this site, by A_C. Because of GUI usability problems with later releases, I have stuck with his older 0.58 release. Your player is similar. I am sure you are familiar with S2P? I will consider using your program as it has some advantages already. Keep it up.
Hello Timmy212,

Installed the player in my device with WM 6.5.3 and it works very well.
Besides the points mentioned by Tito i would suggest an exit button as i have to slide down to reveal the taskbar and then close the player from there. On this bulid no exit button comes up.
Also ...is there an option to save playlists?

there is no way to save playlists yet... hopefully i can get it working soon though ... and also a close/minimise button will probably be in the works also.

Hi i saw someware that the hd2 had dual boot windows and android.
as i use android i find it dosnt do all the things i want like tomtom, skype, divx/wmv, allowing you to save apps to the sd card etc, etc basically every thing i used my old phone for so i was wondering before i try n swap this back to a windows based device if there was a dual boot rom or somthing. thanks.
Every week at least one person asks this question. At the moment no, it can't be done. Furthermore, Windows Mobile sucks. I like hacking and modding my phone as much as the next person but can't understand why anybody would want this.
You can save your apps to sd card in Froyo. Instead of tomtom you have Google Nav, which is free. For divx and wmv playback install rockplayer which is also free. Perhaps you have a point on Skype though.
By the way the dual boot on the touch HD is not a "real" dual boot and doesn't run Android natively, it still boots Windows Mobile first and then just autoruns an Android launcher from the SD card.
Thanks for the reply i have to say i like tomtom alot more then google maps, skype are useless but i have credit on there and everyone is on it so free skype to skype calls, i am glad for the info on rockplayer i was under the impression all players were front end only and miss coreplayer as i dont wanna sit around converting vids all day ya know.
yay rockplayer rurles thank you whats the best voip alternative to skype ?
Is that the official froyo release will let me save to sdcard so if i unroot and flash back to original htc rom i can have official froyo with saving to sd card ? thats great if i read you right wares the original rom lol oopsi...

You will have to root if you have not done so already do get froyo. It's easy and painless. You will also need to flash a new radio to use these roms or you will get white noise and echo on the line. There's a good selection of froyo roms now in the dev section on this board since the HTC build with Sense was leaked.
Once you have froyo you can either default apps to install to the sd card, or you can go into Settings - Applications - Manage applications - Select App, press "move to sd card"

Very new to the htc desire but have been into voip for a good few years, give 3cxphone a try for voip too. Found the sound quality really good and its easy to set up.
for navigation copilot is great. For skype you can use nimbuzz... use google or bing or ask searches... its not that difficult to find stuff.
