Activesync to "Mass Storage Device" USB Dongle - possible? - General Accessories

I have a Kaiser and a car stereo (Blaupunkt Hamburg) with a USB port. The car stereo can read "Mass Storage Devices" - ie USB flash drives. However, HTC phones are Activesync not MSDs.
You can get software to run on your PPC, such as Softick Card Export, that turns the PPC into a MSD, but this locks the storage card, so other software (eg TomTom satnav) cannot run on the phone whilst the device is in MSD mode. I am not sure if this is a hardware limitation or a limitation of softick's software, they have not gotten back to me on that one.
So I got to thinking - is it possible to make a USB dongle that converts Activesync to MSD? It would have to wrap the protocols or something but I guess it is within the realms of feasability.
I just want a solution so that I can have TomTom running on my phone screen, but still browse the music stored on my phone's SD card on my car stereo head unit.
Any ideas?

Have you tried WM5torage? It's free and I believe it has an option to avoid locking the SD card.

Hi. Can you give detailed information about using BA as a usb host? (hardware, software, how to... etc.) Thnx.
Note: In fact I want to use, for example, my usb keyboard or usb hdd on my BA. Is it possible?
card export II enable you to use your BA (any wm device) as mass storage with memory card.
evoluzzione wants to connect a usb flash drive on his BA.
is there something like sd to usb adapter? which connects usb devices to sd ports.
special SD cards has either wifi or usb plug.

Is it possible to create a driver for USB tv/fm tuners? For pocketPC

Just wondering, would it be possible? it would be really nice feature for most pocketPC devices i would think...
im sure there is a bluetooth fm tunner, but i doubt you could stream video and sound through bluetooth? thus usb would be the best choice?
with usb there are masters and slaves
abd most pda's all htc ones i believe
are pure slaves they cant init a connection to
another slave like a tvtuner or external hd or webcam
they can only be accessed by the master (pc)
how do you find this out on the device? also is this a hardware or a software restriction?
ah nm i looked at pdadb.net and saw most say, client, only few out there have client/host but its 1.1 only
so is there anything that is bluetooth that has usb host? or sdio with usb host?
ok ok, how about wifi with usb host??? i know wifi sucks a lot of battery life though
It's hardware restrictions, but to be honest the reception will be poor walking around on your mobile anyways.
Why not just load up some vids to your PDA and watch them via TCPMP? Much better quality and less battery.
recall a CF card which i think supported usb host
well i was looking more so for bluetooth, as most devices have 2.0, i cant remember were it was but i thought i saw a bluetooth mouse with a SD card, it might have been a usb one but i remember clearly in artical talking about using the sd card reader over bluetooth, that would be great for low bandwidth stuff, what would be super is a SDHC ability, that way you could shove sdhc card in it and have over 8gb+ of space of music/video etc...
but i dont get why there is no bluetooth usb host... or at least bluetooth multi card reader?
i have see a multi card reader but it was with bluetooth and it connected to host... so im wondering ifi the bluetooth can allow access to the card reader on its own if the usb plug was used to power the unit only

Use P3300 as a external drive / memory stick

The computers at my work have allow connection via USB cables but no active sync. On my P3300 all that happens is the battery is charged.
Other peoples mobile phones have the facility to switch from Phone mode to "data mode". This then allows their phones memory card to be read like an external drive or memory stick. Files etc. can then be transferred.
Is there a way to do this on my P3300 ?
Yes, there is a program called WM5Storage that makes the P3300 microSD memorycard behave as a USB stick. No need for active sync: detected as USB memory upon connecting P3300 to computer via USB.
If googling here for WM5Storage unsuceesfull, try www.modaco.com.
(not withstanding the wm5 name,it works also in wm6 P3300)

[Q] Music on Mass storace device in the car

I know I have to mount the external sd card as mass storage device so it is recognized by the car audio.
But some folders and artists /albums are visible in the car audio and some others are not.
But I do not know how to put them on the sd card so the car audio will always see them.
The file explorer in the phone sees them without any problem.
In the car I cannot see them whether I search on artist or just do a directory search.
Is it possible the audio codec of some of these files (although they are named with the .mp3 extension) is different than mpeg layer3 format? Or... maybe some of the filenames on the sdcard are longer than a certain length? (i.e. maybe the car deck has a path/filename character limit that it can read?). I suppose it could be many things.
I have seen mass storage mode not work very effectively on Sony devices (ZL, T) when connected to PC. It would list maybe half of the files that exist in a folder (maybe it times out or gives up?). Have you tried connecting via mass storage to a PC and verify that files aren't shown there either?

[Q] Connecting my G3 to car's USB port

Hello,
I'm looking for a workaround regarding connecting my Verizon LG G3 to my car's audio system. Much to my dismay, my car's bluetooth system only supports calling, not audio streaming. I do not have an 3.5mm jackport, so I am limited to a usb port. Unfortunately, the head unit is not compatible with MTP.
I have read in forums for other phones that certain apps can be used to mount the sd card in such a way that it will appear as a mass storage device. Can anyone point in the direction of some resources that might show me how to enable such functionality on my g3? If nothing like that exists, does anyone have another solution that would allow me to connect my g3 to the car's audio system through the USB port?
Thanks in advance for the advice.
What is the purpose of mounting the sdcard into your car stereo system?
If it's to read music files from your sdcard, you'd better get a USB stick.
i understand you ts.
my car's hu supports bluetooth audio streaming, so no problem for me when it comes to music.
i was wanting to connnect my phone as mass storage so that my friends can watch movies via hu.
don't want the hassle of removing microsd card on phone and inserting it on microsd slot on car's hu unit nor do i have any flash drives around.
i downloaded i think the top 5 enable mass storage apps on play store, connected phone via usb cable to car's hu unit usb slot, none of the apps worked.
the other work around i was able to do was use my old galaxy pro phone as it can be connected as mass storage on my car's hu. so the movies go to this phone's microsd card.
Try going in to Bluetooth settings and hit the 3 dot menu. Turn on audio channel I think it's called. My phone wouldn't play music either but after enabling that I had the option for both call audio and music.
