yes, i know it's such a noob question, and for someone flashing my device for almost like twice a week, this should be something i already know...
but believe it or not, i don't...
so please, can anybody here be kind enough to tell me how to reboot my device? is it the same thing as soft-resetting??
thanks for the good souls!
Soft reset : Put stylus in hole
Hard reset (erase all datas) : Press the two soft keys (the ones with : "-"), press reset with stylus while maintaining the two keys, when you see boot screen stop pressing all keys and press the green key.
thanks aje_fr!!!!

I had my original ROM back up to SD yesterday by performing a hard reset (hold on/off key then press the soft-reset button), then successful copy "CE + Boot to SD" to the card. But today, I can't perform the hard reset anymore. When I hold on/off key then press the soft-reset button, there is no option for me to choose, it only look like a soft reset. BTW, I did not neither change, modify or install anything since yesterday.
Anyone has any suggestion? Tks.
hhmmm never knew you could hardreset xda1's that way i believed that you needed to stick the stylus into the small hole on the otherside of the connector as in 1 hole for softreset and 1 hole for hardreset
Yes, the hard reset button on xda 1 is the tiny hole next to headset socket, push once, leave for 1 minute then push once more for fresh factory reboot. This procedure MUST be carried out after flashing phone.
I'm sorry I did call the wrong name for that procedure.
The problem is when I did successful unlock my Siemens SX 56 via ActiveSync by install the Special Edition rom 1.2, I couldn't enter the "bootloader" by hold on/off key then press the soft-reset button. Anyone pls help.
Since I recently bricked my Universal for the second time it made me think why this could have happened. The symptons are known. Your machine hangs in the splash screen (not the Serial or USB boot screen), you can flash another rom, but this does not help, and MTTY Task 28 gives an error.
I think I know what happened in my case. Both times (and I do flash my ROM a lot) I did not completely press the two soft keys on the keyboard really well when resetting with the stylus. The system the proceeded with a normal soft reset, and knowing this is not right I immediately repeated the process (holding the two soft-keys, reset stylus, and typing 0 on query) while the soft reset was still in process. I think this bricks the device.
Opinions?

YES, that is definitely the wrong way to put your device on bootloader mode. You need to press 3 buttons all at the same time namely:
1st: Power Button
2nd: Back Light Button
3rd: Reset Pin Hole
Who gave you the idea to press the 2 soft keys on the keyboard?
He was talking about the Hard-Reset you have to do AFTER flashing.

I had never done a HARD RESET after reflashing. I followed the on screen instructions to just press 2 buttons namely (Soft Boot):
1st: Power Button
2nd: Reset Pin Hole
But NEVER a hard reset and I had not encountered any problems yet.
what the original poster really talking about is doing a hard reset WHILE a hard reset is starting. in which case you can take two views:
1) let the first one finish. that's the way it's designed and tested. starting another one is an exception nobody tested for.
2) a hard reset is a 'start from scratch' event. from ANYWHERE a hard reset should take you to a known good place. even from the middle of a hard reset.
from experience (designing complex hardware/frimware systems) either one SHOULD be right; but only one was in the designers mind at the time
take your choice (but pick that one)!
Is This the correct section ?
I have a xda2 exec. I tried to update my rom, the congratulations screen displayed with a checking informaton on device message, this froze for some time so I disconnected the usb cable. when I tried to reset it, I get is a dispaly with just colours on it and it does nothing else, when I try to update again it shows an error connection error 101, also the device is not recognised. Is there a way to resolve this issue please and can someone be kind enought to direct me.
I used the rom update from - my-xda.com/xdaexec_soft2.html
Thank you in advance.
Try to hard reset your device
hold buttons: "-" + "-"
and then reset
so in practical terms, push the top 2 dash keys which are between your green and red phone icon buttons, and while holding them reset your device using the pen.
this should give you a white screen with a little menu.
You can now select clear device or something, I think it's the 0 or the X
it should work
if that doesn't work try to put your device in Bootloader
buttons: Backlight (front little button) + power button + reset button (with your pen)
again, hold the backlight and power button, then reset button
the screen should be dark, but if you look real close it would say USB or Serial v1.0 or v1.1 or something
you should be able to flash now using the tool
Also look around on this forum, loads of topics about upgrading/flashing and hanging problems

u might have to update bootloader, try 2 read wiki.xda-developers.com lots of usefulll infos for beginers

To both members above, thank you for your time. I am now using the update tool, hopefully this will now work. I used the method pressing the light button and power and reset. (Bootloader)
Hi,
When performing downgrade from 2005 -> 2003se, I followed onscreen messages, but Axim is black/dead/ dunno what to do to "make him alive again" !?!?!
I searched a bit forums and found out that:
In a few seconds, you'll be prompted to do a hard reset by pressing the power and reset buttons simultaneously. Ignore this message. What you want to do is hit the power, wireless, and reset buttons again.
BUT I did power/reset...
Is it possible to fix it not sending it so service?
I still have warranty by Dell, but I am not sure if they will cover that...
I used the following images for downgrade:
WM2003SE_A05_EN_X50v
with this filenames:
WM50_B_A05_X50v_WM2k3SE_EN.nb0
WM50_B_A05_X50v_WM2k3SE_EN_nb0.crc
WM50_K_A05_X50v_WM2k3SE_EN.nb0
WM50_K_A05_X50v_WM2k3SE_EN_nb0.crc
Current version running on Dell was AximX50v_WM5_A01_EN.
Thanks for any help and suggestions...
Regards
fixed it
It's working now...
After taking battery out, inserting it back... putting boot/image on sd card...
This is crucial: combination and timing
1. wifi+power button (pressed - hold them) + reset (quick press/release), in meantime hold wifi+power buttons and release them when loader menu shows!, (WM50_B_A05_X50v_WM2k3SE_EN.nb0)
2. !!!VERY IMPORTANT STEP!!!
A) device tells you to hard reset device (power + reset), DON'T do that!!!
what you need to do here is wifi+power, then quickly press reset button (less than a second) in the meantime button you need to hold buttons (wifi+power) until boot menu appears
3. choose this WM50_K_A05_X50v_WM2k3SE_EN.nb0, confirm it 2 times and wait for round 15min!
4. the result is: alive DELL with 2003se os, test this, 100% success guaranteed!!!
SUN with BIG SMILE appeared to me after DARK clouds
Cheers!

Thanks to Goldwin
A big clap for your clear and useful advice ; I was lost and you saved me.

I have followed all of the directions on the wiki, I have even tried to install another rom and it still will not remove all of the data, it changed the information in the about section of my settings but that's it. I want to change ROMs but it is not working. any ideas?
What version of windows is on your PC?
also try the enter BL which is on most ROMs
Hard Reset
To hard reset you do a soft reset (power + reset)
and before it shows the version numbers at the bottom you have to press Record + Camera & also power (i think) and then you come to an options screen using the record button to go down the list and camera to select you select Yes for option 2 and 3 and then hit the mail button to apply.
