love my ARTEMIS - P3300, MDA Compact III General

Man i hope i am not the only one out there who loves there Artemis over the years i had number of pca from Psion 3 and Psion 5mx to palm III and form the old HP jornada to Compaq Ipaq and more
Yes the processors not one of the fast but it works without any problems on all Apps. Last week i had my friends Dell and mist the mouse and hard time without it. And yes the SD card is very small problem but i can live with it and over the last 8 month it has work for with very little re sets as this is my main phone as i do not have a home phone. And having the GPS is just Fantasies has i travel a lot without it today i be lost.
So for Artemis is number one PCA out there

love my artemis too. but i need a modem link option in wm6!

I love my orbit which is basically the same as the Artemis and would get very lost without GPS/TomTom

Orange SPV M2000!!
oh, you mean the blue angel. How is the treo 600 ahead of it? Does the treo's lack of bluetooth, wifi, limited storage, non-working sdio slot put it ahead? The tiny screen maybe? I upgraded from a treo 600 as well... I've never looked back.
The main difference is that the Treo 600 actually works properly!
Sure, no Bluetooth but that is unusable on the Blue Angel.
No wi-fi on the Treo? Ok, but several people here say signal is poor, must admit my one was not great.

I-mate JasJar

Hi ,
I purchased i-mate JasJar today! its is a beauty, and it performs just as well as it looks.
Many new features are added by microsoft.
It is just Great !!
Youa re from Dubai I hope...
how much is the damage on the wallet? Do they accept trade in deals?
JasJar being sold in Dubai at FONO
Damage is AED 4449/-. :? and they don't trade in. It will be officially launched in Dubai At Gitex by Plug-in, this is what i heard at the sales counter when i bought mine.
That's way too much Kash76. It won't only damage my wallet, it will rip the pants I am wearing. I don't know if its worth it but heck, I'd rather carry a laptop (cos they cost the same) than a brick...
I mean an Imate Jam + Nokia 6680 for 3GP. Prices are getting more and more ridiculous including the Nokia 8800.
I feel damn bad though... Lolz...

Yes. SDHC card will work fine in your JasJar, as long as it has WM6 from one of the latest ROMs found on this site.
SDHC does not work with WM5, only WM6.

Yea,I m using 4G SDHC Class 4 now ,no any problem on wm5 ,u can download SDHC driver from my link.
imate jasjar
I have the IMATE JASJAR and just had it upgraded from its wm-5 to wm-6, in doing this i noticed that I now don't have the little screen change icon tha was at the very bottom of the wm-5 screen. is there any way i can change screen direction or have i just lost that feature. the jasjar still goes from its portrait to landscape but i miss the idea of my being able to change screen direction. my next question is, since i've upgraded from wm-5 to the wm-6, does this also increase the 3-g phone qualities. thanks.
i did in fact download the wm-6 on my jasjar and when i went to place the SDHC card in it, it was not reconized at all, however, went i placed the regular 4gb SD card in it, it was immediately seen, why is this happening when i do in fact have the new wm-6 installed
i had my imate jasjar upgraded to wm-6 which is nice, however, in doing this, i lost the screen orientation control that was in the right hand bottom of my today screen, is there anyway to get this control back or any other way to do the screen orientation. it does still automatically change from landscape to portrait but i just don't have the ability to turn the screen where i wish to turn it.

upgrade to orbit? yes or no?

o2 have offered me an upgrade from my IIi to the orbit. As some of you have been using the orbit for a little while is it all it's cracked up to be?
and does tomtom work ok with the orbit and the built in gps reciever?
cheers guys
Go for it you will love it if not sell it many will be after it if you don't like it.
Or you could wait for the zinc (feb 07 or so) if you can do without the gps in-built?
There is an issue with MicroSD's that possibly dosnt effect all units. See other threads.
Apart from that and if you clock it to 250MHz it works extremely well. I loved my BlueAngel but even my old stylus feels fat now. The jog dial / track ball is mega and internal GPS a breeze. The slower CPU also has the benefit of longer battery life.
I am currently looking for one for a friend on eBay and they are going for £300+ so if you dont like it can always sell and keep old phone...
ps. I use a Sandisk UltraII 2gb MicroSD which may speed up map access etc, its generally slightly slower than my 500MHz BlueAngel but no problem.
I'm a new user of the Xda Orbit, my first WM PDA after owning a tapwave zodiac and the first phone I can really type text messages on. For a PDA it's light, snappy (my last wm device was a Compaq Aero 15xx), has an excellent battery life and the GPS works a treat.
The biggest benefit is the size, though, compared to the other similarly featured Xda's in the o2 lineup this one is TINY, it dropped the jaws of my techy colleagues to the floor.
I find TomTom to be pretty fast and accurate getting a fix, route calculations are fast enough, but it is a little slow to start up initially- overclocking helps but not much. I have overclocked to 260 for PocketSNES and on other occasions but find it normally fast enough to be comfortable - quite a feat with a meer 200mhz!
I'd say go for it, I'm posting this message from Mine now! got 3 tabs open text-mode in NetFront- browsing perfection!
I have had the following:
XDA II
XDA IIs
XDA IIi
XDA Exec
And recently upgraded to the Orbit. I must say that it is the closest I have come to being 100% happy with an XDA.
Had no idea how compact this device is. No more holding a brick to your ear, this is an aesthetically pleasing device - even for non PDA'ers.
I haven't found anything that doesn't work yet. I thought the GPS would be just another gimick and there was no way it was going to work properly without an external antenna - WRONG! Stick TomTom 6.02 on it and away you go. Managed nearly seven hours of GPS directed driving before the battery got too low (have now got a car charger).
I have been waiting for a device that combined all the functionality of a good PDA and phone in a phone size package and here it is.............and they throw in a GPS and FM Radio to boot.
and one more thing if you get a decent set of headphones (either buy an adapter or do a bit of DIY soldering) it's a pretty decent MP3 player too. 2GB micro SD from Moby Memory for about £40 and painless synching with Media Player 11 and your away.
The main reason I have a PDA phone is for Terminal Server. I provide software support and it gives me the freedom to get out of the House/Office and still be able to support my Clients. I was always able to justify carrying around a house brick (EXEC) because of this. Now I don't have to this phone is great and I have to say it ..... Gorgeous.
OK now it's out - I love my Orbit!!!
Go get one - I'm pretty sure you'll be happy!
Hope this helped!
Since a couple of weeks ago, I'm also the proud owner of a HTC P3300, after owning a Qtek S100 for a year and a half.
I'm truly very happy with my new P3300.
Almost all of the features have been mentioned in other replies to your post (and I agree with them), so, I want to add that, despite having the same 64Mb of RAM as the S100, it seems to me (I'm no expert) that memory management works better (probably WM5 instead of WM2003 has something to to with it) than it did on the S100.
Also the new 2Mpixel camera works very well, the picture quality is very good. It doesn't have flash or 'macro mode' selector, but I can live without it.
The phone capabilities are good (I had a lot of problems with the S100 not relating phone numbers to names or contact photos).
Apart from a little problem I had with activesync (mentioned in another thread and already solved) it's been working perfectly.
As for the GPS softwares, I use Destinator 6 (instead of TomTom) and Navitel (with custom Madeira map) for navigation and both of them work perfectly.
Bottom line, and yes, I'll be repating myself, I'm very very happy with my P3300.
regards,
thanks for the advice guys! looks like im off to get myself one then!
How about InfraRed capability?
I currently own a Mini S and I'm really keen to upgrade to the Orbit. I've however found that Orbit seems not to have an InfraRed port. So I wouldn't be able to use it as a TV remote control. Can anyone please confirm? Thanks.

I asked HTC about making this device with consumer grade IR and 3G to make this a complete device. This is the response i got from HTC.
"Thank you for getting in contact with HTC regarding your recommendations and support. its more than likely a phone will come out with the functions you have asked. Its a case that at the moment a trade of as to be implemented due to technology reasons due to the GPS functions incorporated in to the phone, which requires other hardware to be dropped from the phone. The GPS being implemented is still fairly new concept and even through I don't have details of future phones its only a matter of time before it happens. Personally i'm waiting for a phone/GPS with slide out keyboard, which again can only be a matter of time.
Thank You for your comments"
All in all adding IR and 3G would make this one compact complete device. Use it to control your gadgets, navigate you around when driving, using it for phone and all manner of PPC functionality with virtually every connection option. One day it will be reality.
Just a snippet from HTC
Hope that helps.
Absolutely YES
Look at my signature, I've worked with nearly all HTCs from an early stage. If you can live without a keyboard, this is THE device to have at the moment.
HTC are nearing perfection!
Best device ever released (excluding the Universal for business use, still unbeatable).
I just got one - having been through the magician (which the wife now loves and uses) and the exec (which I still use as an excellent business tool) I have got to say that I am bowled over by the Orbit/3300 - WM5.0 AKU3, GPS, great screen, brilliant battery life (I get 3 days moderate usage out of mine between charges - 10 calls per day, push email on 18 hours per day, occasional GPS use!
GET ONE - U WILL NOT REGRET IT - and per other posts, if you don't like it I am sure it will get snapped up on EBAY

How to unlock SS i780
After i tried "GPS Patch" as suggested from Modaco, i got Com port 4 on the device and tried many times to connect gps ( build-in )..the result is " cant find gps in my device"..so finally decide going back to BT-gps and work well as usual. I've heard that Bulid-in GPS only works with the Navigon application. I think what i hv to do is "wait and see" till the official launch of this device.. By the way, my map app is MobileXT, Garmin...and hvnt tried Google map yet..

If so whats its perfprmance like at achieving lock and maintaing lock?
As ive heard it uses the qualcomm 6260 chip which is not meant to be very good.
Thanks
Hi all.
I have a I780 from Orange and can say the GPS is not locked.
It seems that the OS is the problem with GPA apps not working.
I have install an app called GPSGate.
Tested with Tomtom worked fine.
The i780 GPS is NOT locked, it works fine. Out of the box, it works with Google Maps and with the new Garmin XT software. If you need something like Tom Tom 6 to work with the i780, you need to use GpsGate for creating a virtual COM port.
The i780 GPS reception is actually pretty impressive considering the size of this little jewel.
Unfortunately Samsung messed up a couple of things, they delivered the first batch of units over here in Germany without any manual(physical or online) and without GPS software. According to some dealers and a source at Samsung, the GPS software(Garmin XT?) will be available free of cost for customers and it will be delivered on a microSD card. The bad news is: after a certain trial period(15 days?), the Garmin software costs 99 EUR or so to unlock. Crap...
I like my i780, build quality, size and weight are impressive.
It is however slightly bigger than the Blackjack I AND II and it definetely uses a completely different hardware, so DO NOT use Blackjack II solutions for your i780, they won't work and they're going to mess up your i780.
Again: the Blackjack II and the i780 have NOTHING in common, they look alike but the i780 is slightly bigger and has a completely different hardware, not to mention that the i780 runs on Windows Mobile 6 Professional and has a touchscreen.
Btw: the display quality of the i780 isn't as great as the review of a pre-production unit mentioned on www.mobile-review.com. Apparently Samsung had to cut on cost somewhere. The GPS works great though, I always get a satellite fix within a couple of seconds(first fix may take a couple of minutes) and usually, I receive a usable signal of 6-9 satellites, sometimes even more.
So do you need GPSgate running in the background aswell as TOMTOM?
Thanks
Hi Ya
Yes you do.
GPSgate acts as a virtual COM port.
It works a treat. I have had tomtom running all day without a problem.

Thanks vor the very good news about GPS!!
Can you give to me a general idea of this wonderful device? A part from the display (does it have less luminosity than expected) how do you judge the performance, build quality..... Do you confirm the very good impression made by Mobile-Review?
What about sw? Does it come like the one tested Mobile-Review? Today plugin, task manager, rss, podcast, Opera........?
Thanks.

Hi, does anyone know what the settings are used on gpsgate to get tomtom working on i780?....also does anyone have any images of how tomtom looks like on the i780 screen (320x320)?....thanks in advance.

Which pocketpc after p3300 (also gps+wifi) not too expensive?

Hi,
I have lines all over my screen (no bootloader mode ) which change colour, also after a hard reset, but i can receive gsm signal, but I see nothing on my screen.
Maybe i will reflash it this evening, but I think it will be game over...
Think the internal display is broke (the glass is perfectly ok), i did nothing special and kept it in the leather cover in my pocket...
Anyone has a tip for a new htc phone, not too expensive with gps & wifi ?
I saw you have cheap second hands p3300's for only €100, but it would be my third one then, so i'd rather like another type this time.
Anyone suggests another newer HTC with GPS+WIFI+PHONE that costs -€200?
It may be a second hand also, as long as three above options are possible.
Thanks!
Best regards,
Innovator
just my opinion, some faster device with bigger ram/rom capacity than artemis, maybe second hand dimond or tytn 2, You can probably find under 200 €
I recommend the HTC Polaris

under 200€, I don't believe, if You find somewhere please let me know!
HD Touch Pro 2
pppppppffff just missed a htc hd touch pro 2 for only €300!!!
First I was interested in the diamond 2, but don't like the metal+black front.
going to pay something more €375 for the hd touch pro with keyboard !!!
I checked out out the videos and felt in love, cannot help it
For my first p3300 I also paid €550 back in the days, so why not this professional one.
It's not so thick if you check the comparison pictures and videos :
http://pocketnow.com/review/htc-touch-pro2
HD Touch is too big...
well, if that is the sum you are wanting to invest...I advise you to go get yourself the iphone 3gs! sells around 550€ unlocked new...
i have ditched microsoft for good...and I am seriously impressed starting from my macbook pro 13,3" to my phone...
been an alltime windows freak...but seeing how easy cumputing can be with macintosh i will never return!
greetz
if you spend a lot of money now i personally would go for the HTC HD2
As the HD2 will support windows mobile 7. The artemis thanks to xda has had a beautifull life, and i think that the HD2 with the capacitive display can serve you for just as long.
Personally i'm soon buying an omnia i900 to replace my p3300 for the simple reason that i can get it for 75 euros used, and can still sell my p3300 for nearly the same. For the money the htc diamond is really cheap as well.
