SDHC Drivers - Maybe these will work? - P3300, MDA Compact III General

OK, disclaimer first....
I got my Orbit approx 2 weeks ago, up until now ive been mastering it, trying software and tweaking etc.
Ive just got my Orbit exactly as I want it except I can only use a 2GB card.
(very upset as I have a 4gb SDHC)
During my web browsing I actually saw some of the deepest, darkest and most bizarre of sites but when I stumbled upon this file I had to download it. Most of the talk was in Chinese with some occasional ChinGLISH.
I dont have the balls to install these driver's,
Reason number 1 - I havent learned how to backup my rom yet or cook a new one up, thats going to be my next step on the learning ladder.
Reason number 2 - I have my device just how I want it.
Anyway......
If someone with more knowledge cares to take them apart or whatever is involved could you post your findings here.
Whatever happens, I'm not responsible.
Heres hoping

probably won't work
Hi there,
i'm afraid that they won't work. as far as i can see the files are the same as linked in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=310456
and there nobody has been able to get them working on artemis...

Apologies for posting again.

WM6 for T-Mobile Dash - UI Test Build - BETA

Yes this is the real thing!
I can't believe how long it took for this to get out to the public finally. This is works (so far for over 1 week) great on my T-Mobile Dash. I didn't need to CID unlock it or anything (though i believe I tried application unlock app and that didn't seem to have worked). This is T-Mobile branded so if you have a different carrier there MAY be some modification required for proper function...though I wouldn't really know since I use T-Mobile -
This thing has it all working so far except the T-Zones in WINWAP. It tells you this version of WinWAP is not supported by tmo..if you are testing you are using an unregistered version and you should contact your test lead to get it registered...No biggie because you can access your account info via the new IE browser.
The new IE Browser is quicker and more functional in general. You also get Live! Search for 411 directory (which can dial/add to contacts directly from there!!!!) also Satellite and road map/GPS/directions/traffic... oh yes no bull... It has Windows LIVE! messenger and email integration to your home screen which is still buggy (gives error and you need to change to another home screen). Tmobile Blue home screen works fine...though there is a BETA stamp in the lower right corner (Also a big red UI TEST BUILD notice when you turn on the phone...oh well).
Anyways...I'm sure you've read all about the new features forever and been pissed that a couple of leaks for other version were out but not our beloved Dash. Here it is guys...Oh yes not a virus either.
Just one bit of advice. BE PATIENT DURING THE UPGRADE !!! It may look like it freezes at some points, but trust me it didn't.
File named RUU_Excalibur_TMO_US_1.20.531.1_4.1.13.34_02.79.90_Test.exe and it is 44.7 MB
Since I can't attach it here to the post I am posting the link to a torrent site which I've...yeah...well it's there and it works:
http://www.demonoid.com/files/details/1061423/4574331/
If for some reason the link doesn't work go to the main webpage and search...if you STILL can't find it...you don't need to be upgrading your phone - you'll probably break something lol
fo a second there i thought you had a different beta rom this has already been posted but thanks anyways!
thanks for posting a link, but this has been discussed in this forum for two weeks and there are a few threads that discuss different aspects of this rom. you really should do a little research as you will find fixes for a few of the small bugs you are no doubt experiencing
argh...I searched and didn't see any thread clearly saying there was something for the excalibur...maybe I should have looked closer. Sorry guys, but hey - it's another source to download it from I guess. Hopefully someone finds this useful.
Didn't mean to make it seem like I released something "newer" -
oh well - This site rox

before i update to black 2.5 i hope these programs will still work.any FeedBackplease

i really want to upgrade to wm 6.
my htc tytn does seem to run slugish with wm 5.(i have done some updates)

extrom ver 1.18.255.106.
i have done a lot of searching on the forum and have seen some programs have problems. some of these have fixes like slingbox.
i want to make sure that these programs will work after the black 2.5 upgrade. so far black 2.5 seems to be the main one people like.
here is a list of programs i am worried about.
any feed back would be great.
thanks
1.sling box. (will all ver of sling box work witht the patch? what made it stop working? would that effect any other programs?)

read the wiki and do some searches before posting a new thread please
i have read the wiki for a lot of things and the many new rom updates
and read and searched a good handful of threads.
i am not asking for anything big
just a small yay or nay. on some of the listed programs.
so hence the new thread.

If you actually took the time to read for a while you'd know that with any ROM some apps will be buggy, and then along comes some fixes. Stick with WM5. If you don't have time to investigate what you're getting into, don't waste your time flashing a new ROM unless you know before-hand that you're gonna run into problems. How about this. Try a ROM, add the apps you want. If you run into problems work through them like EVERYONE else, because your configuration wont be the same as someone else's, and IF YOU TOOK THE TIME TO READ THREADS you'd already know what apps are buggy with WM6, and the ones not listed you can add if you experience a problem. That's how the whole problem/fix thing works. Sorry. I'm just sick of these threads everyday from people wanting to know some magical setup or which ROM is TEH BESTEST cause they just want a finished product and don't care about the learning process. When you make the jump to flash your device, you become a "tester" like everyone else. It's not rocket science, but it's not finger paints either.

ronfin44,
i "READ" the posts i know there are bugs.(hence the question on the programs)
why would i risk a bricked phone or waste any extra time if some one else has already found out the needed info. most of the programs i asked about are some what common. it would not be so crazy to think there are a few people here that have tried and have some feed back.
based on the feed back i will decide if i want to go farther.
is it too much to come up with a risk analysis before committing to a project?
my god if asking for some feed back on a small list was such a sin why even have a forum.
"Risk annalysis". When you decide to do something like this there's a risk, but an app that may not be "buggy" for one, may be "buggy" for another. Try 2.5, load your apps, and see if everything runs fine. It's usually not the apps that cause problems but the development of the ROM, ie a ton of fixes that follow once one has been released. The apps with a history are posted ALL over this forum. If you haven't seen any of yours then why not try the ROM and see? It's not magic. If you run into a problem, post it and we'll help ya work it out. The forum gets cluttered with so many threads asking questions that could be answered by hanging around and doing a lot of reading and using the search feature. I know the search function isn't perfect, but it works.
Advice; load 2.5, load your apps. Good luck. If you run into some problems, check the 2.5 thread FIRST for an answer, if not, POST IN THAT THREAD about the problems you're having with THAT ROM and people will be happy to help. It just keeps the forum cleaner.
I can report that IM+ 4.3 works without crashes or any downtime, although it drains the battery like a mofo (didn't on WM5), it works 1000x better than it ever did on my 8125 with WM5.0.
Edit: other versons of im+ 4.9 ect. will crash / lock up your hermes on WM6.0 roms so be aware you MUST use 4.3 or higher.

Complete Guide To Hacking, Tweaks & Mods For PDAs

Hi
I have been on this forum for awhile since I got my first PDA (XDA II) about 2 years ago but only a few months ago did I register when I got tired of waiting for other people to ask questions for the answers that I wanted.
Now I have an XDA Orbit, and all of these new terms are popping up... such as USPL, CID, etc.
Because I took a long break from the forums I need to catch up with everything, and thats very difficult since its hard to make out what people are talking about and referring to when talking on the forums. I can't really comprehend what people are saying because they are talking about things that I dont know (lol). I have looked through the wiki and it doesnt explain everything, and the acronyms section doesnt contain much.
Although the WiKi is a fantastic place where people can share their ideas as a community, I was hoping that someone could maybe upload a guide such as a text file explaining everything, including terms, what certain things are used for, etc.
One thing that confuses me is that someone managed to get a leaked WM5 rom that 02 use to unbrick devices. From what I've heard dumped ROMs are exactly the same except they cannot bypass the bootloader.. could someone explain why this is? What would be the point of the dumped ROM if it cannot bypass the bootloader - surely you wouldn't be able to flash the ROM?
This is just one of many questions I have - but by having everything explained I hope to work out answers for myself using the knowledge gained from learning all these technical terms.
Thanks for your time.
Well, as much as I know...
CID = Country ID and is used to 'lock' the device to a certain country/vendor id so that any other ROM downloaded to the device would render it useless, sometimes this screws up the bootloader and 'bricks' the device... much like a sim-lock with other carriers, but more serious.
USPL = A program used to circumvent the CID lock by providing a temporary SuperCID, so that other ROMs can be flashed without the aforementioned bricking. It has to be flashed to the device before any 'exterior' ROM download.
These terms have all probably come about after the release of B&B4 ROM by tom coden, which I must say is brill!
Hope this helps,
Pete
Thanks for the info, CID locks I assume are being put on newer PDAs since the XDA II or XDA IIs didnt have these measures?
I would guess so, although I haven't added cooked ROMs to any other device as yet...
Sorry to scrutinise every answer (lol) but does 'cooked' mean that the extended ROM has been edited? or is that baked ROM?
Not being the expert on this I assume a cooked ROM to be one that has been put together, more likely meaning one that is not from the original vendor.
E.g. HTC cooked a ROM in the first place, then O2 edited it and cooked their own etc...
Anyone? Am I right?
well from how i have seen it used over the last few days since i joined, i was assuming "cooked" meant hand made or modified by someone other than the device vendor/manufacturer/Microsoft
Yeah pretty much!
Come on everyone to organize wiki
I agree that it is very hard to get into this... I have been studying for hours these late days...
I just read the 2 necessary steps for begginers:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=FAQ
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=BlueAngel_For_Beginners
I strongly recommend them!
back to the wiki... I think that we should be writting more there and try to be more organized and cross-linked.
Some kind of tree structure would help a lot.
Besides some topics (like the one for BA above) should be generalized to give basic ideas for all devices.
I am quite new to wikis but I feel that we should exploit/collaborate more this resource.
Regards.
Thanks for those links, they are very helpful! I managed to get a read of a few useful links aswell - they were in the Himalaya section...
Also, does anyone know how I can get rid of the notification that displays your balance after making/receiving a call?
e.g. Receive a call, talk or whatever, close the call, then the message: 'Your Balance Is £283.39' (lol just an example im not really that rich hehe) comes up. I was thinking I would have to tweak the registry to remove that..it must autodial the number that displays balance automatically after making a call.
Thanks

Backing Up Everything

Apologies if this appears elsewhere but I have looked without success. If it does then a link to the solution would be great.
Basically I found this site a few weeks ago and since then have been tinkering with my phone. I've tried various roms, added different programs, played about with the settings and so on. Today I have finally got it just how I want it. It is overclocked to run quickly but safely. The today screen is perfect. It contains everything I need including my huge list of contacts. And my theme is spot-on. However usually in life when everything is right something big and hairy appears out of nowhere and dumps on you. Its got to the point where I panic every time I turn it on just in case it crashes and I need to start all over again.
My question therefore is if anyone knows of a utility (or can give detailed instructions) to completely back up the phone. Right down to the user settings, theme and contacts. If possible maybe even to create a rom image of my phone so that if it does ever crash I can reinstall the whole thing from one simple file. I assume this sort of thing must be possible because Kavana and Ricky produce such wonderful roms with various programs, etc pre-installed.
Can it be done? And if so - can it be done by an enthusiastic amateur or do you need to be a tech guru? I should add I don't mind paying if I need to buy a piece of commercial software to achieve this.

Did you even bother to search google for "smartphone backup" ? The very first link that comes up, takes you right to the software you say you need. I apologize for being harsh, but I hate the lack of common sense...
An option
Not sure about the cooked 6.1 Roms. Maybe someone else might know or have tried.
http://www.spritesoftware.com/
I use this and it's well worth it.
if u just mean the saved registry values and what not u can always export the registry so that way if u have to hard reset the phone or if a new amazingly wowlike rom is released and u NEED to flash u can always import the registry values of the chomes and it'll be the way u left it (thats what I do for my myfaves and my programs)

No problem, and you are entitled to your opinion. however its replies like that which stop people making posts to forums like this. Everyone has to start somewhere, and one man's obvious "common sense" answer is another man's dilemma.
As for using google... yep I could have done that but google links to hundreds of pages, some owned by people trying to sell software which obviously means they won't be objective. Others have methods which could damage a phone and because I don't know the writers how do I know which methods to trust? Ergo I decided to come to site I know, with people whose technical knowhow I trust, and to search the forum and then ask them for advice. To me, that is common sense. Isn't that one of the reasons that places like this exist? So non techheads can ask guys like you for help?
No offence intended and, for what its worth, you are one of the guys whose advice on this forum has helped me countless times. So thank you for that no matter what. Without your posts I'd never have got this far in the first place! I mean that.
As for the other replies... thanks guys. I will look into the registry stuff. And I will certainly check out the software link. If I do find some info on google, I hope you folks will help me pick the best method to use and avoid bad advice.
Thanks again.
GS
Okay the Sprite software is perfect. And now I've checked it out maybe my question was a stupid one. Still, its nice to have a recommendation from an independent source. I've been burnt in the past by bad google advice.
Sorry if I've wasted anyone's time.

ROM update for iPAQ h3975

Hello!
Before anyone enrages and flames me a million times for this, yes:
-I realize that this is an incredibly old device and no one actively supports it and my chances of receiving the information I need are very, very low. (I had to take the chance).
-I realize that there may have been another place on this site that this thread was supposed to have been started (but I couldn't find where, even after a google search).
I have been using XDA for quite a long time, and it used to be very Windows mobile based. It all seems to be Android now. I just hope that an older XDA member will see this post and go "Oh, I have that file on a old HDD or server. I will upload it and make this persons day!". That may be wishful thinking now days. But worth a try. I mean I have gotten so many WM ROM updates/upgrades from this site in the past for my other WM phones and PDAs.
TLDR,
I need the ROM update file to get my HP(Compaq) iPAQ 3975 to WM2003.
After weeks of research on google and many, many dead ends, I need to get the request for this file out there. If you have, or can get the update file, you would be AMAZING. I have the update utility and all the other stuff I need.
Your help would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!
(Also, if this thread belongs in another area of XDA, please let me know!)
Thank you all!
