I came across some 8 gb sd cards on ebay that the vendors claim are not sdhc. Anyone used this cards or could anyone confirm that they are actually compatible with non sdhc devices?
Regular sd cards only officially go up to 2gb but i have seen 4gb but dont work on all devices. That 8gb is a fake.
They are coming up all over ebay and people are buying and posting good feedbacks. I do use a 4g sd card which works flawlessly in my universal and also in my old toshiba e800 running wm2003se.
hmm.. i see them on ebay but im hesitant to buy them...
4GB non-SDHC Transcend
I have HTC Himalaya, I flashed it with WM 6.0 from Helmi and today (4.11.2010) I succefully started to use 4 GB SD (non-SDHC) card from Transcend in my Himalaya! Accordin´ to many opinions and comments I know that the device only has to support standard SD 1.1 (in hardware way) everything else is irrelevant! Now I´m searching for 8GB one (also non-SDHC), cause I know it exists! But first I have to find it and then I will post here that it works with Himalaya (meaning, if it works with Himalaya, It should work with any MDA or PDA with SDIO slot and hardware support for SD 1.1 format)
HC = "High Capacity".
It has to do with data addressing.
In order for a >2GB card to be non-HC, it has to have some other mechanism for switching between the 2GB segments than typical SDHC cards, like a physical switch on the back of the card. In essence, it will be multiple SD cards in a single package.
There are 3 SD standards:
-SD (max 2GB)
-SD 1.1 (max 4GB)
-SDHC (everything above 4 GB)
Don't buy these "SD" cards I bought one of them their quality was bad...after using it for 2 weeks the plastic case of the memory chip broke in 2 parts...now i have only the chip I cannot use anywhere.
The data I stored on it became sometimes unavailable I had to format the card...
Long story short: don't buy them.

Just in case anybody is thinking of getting a 4GB SD card, I can confirm that the Transcend 150x 4GB card works on my Blue Angel, though it doesn't work in the built-in SD card reader on my Toshiba laptop - I have to use a SanDisk MobileMate SD+ Card Reader. You can get the SD card for £80 from http://www.orcalogic.co.uk/asp/prodtype.asp?prodtype=17231&ft=d&st=1
£80? They seemed alot more then that just a few months back...
You can definitly get them cheaper on eBay but I wanted the option of returning it if it didn't work - I think if you buy something off an online retailer you can return it within 7 days.
But the real question is: Does it work with tomtom 5 without freezing?
But the real question is: Does it work with tomtom 5 without freezing?
I had that problem with a high-speed 1GB card using Navigator 3. The 4GB card seems to work far better though there is still some "freezing".
Is there a size limit to the microsd that the Dash will take? I ask this because I used to have a Motorola A1200 that only took 1gb microsd.
I have a 2GB microSD card in my dash. Works great
Up to 2 gb would work just fine. From I've been read, 2 gb is the max you can go with Dash.
2g is the max for SD, microSD, miniSD. The only thing higher is called SDhc (Secure Digital High Capacity) and will only work on cameras and devices that say they are SDhc compatible, ones that don't won't recognize it.
I just recently purchase a 2GB from Sandisk and it works fine. I purchaed it from Outpost.com for $20 after rebate. I think the reason why Dash only supports up to 2GB because 4GB microsd aren't available yet during the time of the release (and currently as well that aren't NON SDHC). I wish the 4GB will come out soon because you know by then 8GB microsd will next. I think 8GB is a good size for the dash. Enough to pack decent amount of music, files, programs, and definitely gps maps that take a lot of space.

There is no Non SDHC because SD technology can't support over 2g. That's why they made SDhc. Different format/technology. SD is FAT16 and SDhc is FAT32. (from what I've seen online)

Yes, I do understand that SD cards are limited but it is possible as you can see many ppl are buying standard 4GB SDs and even MiniSD that don't require SDHC readable devices. They are non-SDHC that is formatted to FAT32. Ebay is flooded with these non-sdhc 4gb miniSD and they work according to many. In time, I'm sure there will be 4gb microsd that don't require SDHC as well too. The 8GB of course most likely will remain SDHC as it is still fairly new in the flash memory industry at the moment.

Do they just format it from 16 to 32? And if so do you know how they do this? I've been looking online and can't find anything.
Can the HTC Touch take 4GB MicroSDHC cards?
i heard that the newer ppc's should support it. I hope im right
anyone else know anything about this?
The specifications for the HTC Touch says it supports the standard "SD 2.0". This standard includes SDHC (Cards from 4-32gb), and have seen a few users say they are using a 4gb card in their touch (search will reveal who).
Here (DK) the only 4gb MicroSDHC card available is Class 2, so I wont be going for the 4gb (or 8gb for that matter) card until I can get atleast Class 4, preferably Class 6.
You can read more about SDHC in general on wikipedia.
Hi,i'm actually using 4gb microsd HC from SanDisk.
Everything work perfect without any problem.
Mine Touch have Italian software but i don't think different language firmware could have limitations about memory size....i hope
Bye.

you said that you have a 4Gb Card.
were did you buy it?
Tanks
Hi,from ebay the object number is :160135130187 but maybe now you'll find more than this model cause the demand is growning......and maybe the price will be lower.
8 gb sdhc actually used in a touch, anybody ?
has anybody actually used an 8 gb micro sdhc card in a touch yet?
i know there was some discussion about the availability of this size card, and that it was available for quite a few pounds(dollars for me), and i believe someone had purchased it, but never really heard of the results.
if someone has please post, and please let us know where it was purchased and for how much. also, if outside us whether you know if it can be delivered to the usa.
thanks in advance
dan

Did you test the card? E.g. fill it up to over 2gb, like 2.5gb and then see if the phone writes on it etc. 'Cause the picture on Ebay appears different from the one that Verizon carries which should be the real one.
It is good that it works on the Touch, since I just ordered a Touch. I've tested my card, it works flawlessly on the TyTN and I filled it up to test.
Test done
Just end the fill up test on SDHC 4 gb,no problem it works
I've made some copy of 98mb files and also 2 copy of tomtom map file (about 518mb) now memory info report just 84.03 mb free and 3794.47 used of 3878.50 total space on microSd card.
Thank to Doni for suggest me the test.
Pls guys forgive my poor english.
Using sandisk hdsc 4gb card for a week now in my touch and works like a charm. Can't wait for the 8gb lol! bought on amazon. these cards are hard to locate.

You can get it here for 36quid inc postage http://www.mymemory.co.uk/Micro-SDHC
or if you want to use ebay I see they are around 32 or 33quid inc postage from reputable sellers
how significant is class 2 and class 6 micro sdhc cards? compared to the standard 50x micro sd cards.
the class 6 micro sd sdhc doesnt come cheap but the class 2 and class 4 seems reasonable..
I got the 4GB Sandisk card today and it works well.
£29.99 including p&p on play.com at the minute....

That's a SD not a SDHC card. It will still work though.
You can get the 4Gb SDHC card on eBay for £32 and you also get a Micro SD to SD Card Adapter and a SDHC USB Card reader in with the price

The fact that its 4GB means it has to be SDHC... The HC stands for High Capacity
maybe not.
there is a 4gb sd and 4gb sdhc.
have just got a 4GB SDHC Micro Sd card from Amazon including an sd to micro adapter and a sandisk micromate (adapter type thing not used yet) for £24.95 + p+p in total came to less than £30.
Works fine for me so far despite HTC telling me they only support 2 GB cards, mine is an MDA touch from Tmonile but I dont think that will make much difference.

No he's right. On research I find SD only goes up to 2Gb. The SDHC uses FAT32 file system to be able allow higher capacities. 8Gb card coming out next year.
Anyway, for me extra 2 squids I got a couple of adaptors.
In case anybody is interesting: The new Sandisk 16 Gigabytes microSDHC (Class2) works nicely on my HTC Elfin (otherwise known als the HTC Touch with 256/128 MB) bought from T-Mobile Germany (still with original T-Mobile branded ROM).
BTW: when using the 16 Gigs microSDHC on a PC, the transfer speed seems to higher than 2MB/sec. I am using a Transcend M5 reader.

thanks! it's exactly the test i was waiting for! i think i'll upgrade my memory soon, i'm still using the standard 1gb microsd
Hi
I've tried using two of these with my Elf - But have found them to be very flaky
Long load times and in both cases the cards became unusable
Files that would transfer on and off my 6Gb card would fail
In fact the 2nd one (replacement) didn't even get a far as being used. I'd transferred files from my 6GB to my PC, on the transfer back (using a sandisk Micro SD to UDB reader) it failed and the card is now unreadable
So - I'm going to hold fire until they get a bit more reliable
RON
Hawklan, where did you get those cards from? It could be possible they were fakes. And as for the MicroSD sizes, if I recall right, the WM ELF can support up to 32GB.
Hi all. I'm new on this forum and have recently had my new phone stolen from me. I decided to blow the dust off the XDA IIS and have spent the last few days on here fiddling with it.
I ordered a new 4gb memory card. It is 4GB Micro SD inside a SD adapter. and works perfectly in the PC. I also have an old mi nin SD 512 inside an SD adapter and this works. I 've spent hours reading the forum and can't find a solution. I apologise if this has allready been asked but does anyone have any suggestions?
Its an XDA IIS and I have tried numerous windows installations on the phone with the same result. It is now running WM 6.5.3
Thankyou in avdance...
as a matter of facts, it has been asked dozens of times already. but still:
4gb is the boarderline size for sd cards (sd, mini-sd, micro-sd doesn't matter).
4gb is available as an sd1.0 card (standard sd), and also as sd2.0 card (sdhc). the sdhc standard is not compatible with the blueangel.
or, in layman's terms:
every sd card of 2gb or less capacity works
every sd card of 8gb or more capacity doesn't work
for 4gb cards you have to look out, so you don't accidently buy an sdhc card, kingston and transcend have good standard 4gb cards.
Thanks for your reply. So basically it should work? I tried to make sure I didnt buy SDHC and it doesn't say it on the card. Would you say that the card more than likeley is SDHC?
what brand and model is it?
but afaik all micro sd cards of 4gb are sdhc, there are very few normal size 4 gb sd cards, namely kingston and transcend, but the majority of 4gb cards is sdhc and therefor incompatible.
