Hi all,
Gonna install Artemis Touch 2.1 this evening hopefully... after been stuck with the WM5 02 provide.
I know I need to use the USPL to flash it, and then install the rom, but I was wondering is there anything else I need to do before I do it, I like bricks but not expensive ones . I want to back up contacts; sms, email & that whole 9 yards, will PIM Backup do that job? from what I read in other threads I think thats the one I need but I'm a noob at this, also settings like the 02 sms; gprs & mms, will they also back up, or do you recommend I write them down first?
think thats it, soz for the questions but total noob who doesnt understand half the things you guys talk about right here
any help much appreicated...

ok sit back and enjoy the ride
1. install SPB backup, great tool, just do a search on google for it.
that will back up everything for you.
2. run USPL and wait for it to finish.
3. the phone reboots, look for UPL and make sure the last digit is a 0, its something like upl=1.11.0000.
once your here, you can flash any rom you want.
good luck and if you get problems ask for help.
thanks neilhhardy;
1 quick question (ok 3 )
firstly; i guess i dont use the full backup option in spb backup, im guessing i want custom back?
secondly; how long does the whole process take?
thirdly; will the unofficial roms make the orbit any slower?
soz again for all the questions & thanks for the help!

ok number 1, i always use the full backup and get a copy on the PC too ( just incase your sd card crashes out.
go and get a coffee relax a little and its done ( +/- 15 mins)
nope, actually there faster and better, Tom B&B 4.2 is running perfectly lots of nice features, Also Mesche's Roms are cool.
there the only 2 ive been playing around with.
if i were you and the first time flashing a new Rom, go with Mesche's Vanila rom 2, nice Rom with not so much software installed and also very very fast.
hope this helps.
thanks for all the advice neilhhardy, im now touch 2.1 yay
question though; is there anyway to add a wifi icon of somekind, to the quick launch bar at bottom of the screen? i dont like clicking the 'G' up top then selecting WiFi that way
laters

If its a cab file you're trying to install, copy it anywhere on the phone. Then using file explorer on your phone, click on the cab file and installation will begin.
If its an exe file, these install from your pc through Activesync. On your pc(with phone connected), click on the exe file and it will copy the files to your phone. It will then tell you to check your phone, which will then look like you had just started a cab file installation.
If either cab or exe asks you if you want to install to device or storage card, it should be your choice unless the creator has specified otherwise.
Some files require rebooting the phone after installation. Most will tell you before they reboot, and some creators will tell you its necessary. In this case you should manually reboot it if the installation doesn't automatically do it for you.
just out of curiosity. how did you manage to flash 6.1 on the phone when you are unsure of how to install a simple application?

what kind of stuff? like does the phone do backflips or break dance?
be a little more specific man..
for the keyboard go look in the sticky ontop of this forum and download the keyboard file to your pc. plug your phone into the pc and let it sync. then take that file and through activesync > explorer put it on your phone
on your phone, go to where that file is located and just execute it..install to device. then reboot the phone when its done installing.

there are sticky's full of instructions for installing new roms....followed by 1000 pages of the same questions and the same answers.
i wasnt trying to be a jerk.i was honestly asking because id like to know how he installed his 6.1 so we can try to make it a lot easier on n00bs that ask the same questions time and time again. since he seems like a new user, hes the one to ask right?

You honestly think hes the one? I didn't think installing cabs was that hard. Put cab on phone, click on it from explorer, and wait just a bit, Done. I really don't think he is the chosen one. In fact, I would venture a guess that it was pure luck he was able to get 6.1 flashed at all. No offense. I nominate Gixxum to be his personal tutor
which is why id like to know how or what instructions he followed.
I didn't think you was being a jerk, infact i found your answer rather commicle, so i had to reply with comedy, i just imagined he followed the forum thread and think from his answer i was correct? But maybe not?
Biglarge what's the answer?

Im glad you guys are having fun at my expense, this is how I figured it out. It was posted in this forum, I wish I had the name on it, but I give thanks to ever wrote this and am sorry I didnt have the nameHeres how to beat the 270 error.
When running the installer, "push any key" through the first few steps as it says.
When the queue comes up saying "press center key and screen should turn white", "press any key to continue"
FIRST - press any key, to bring up the next queue
SECOND - now push the center button on your phone, and it should turn white
THIRD - push any key on your PC to start the actual flash.
If you do step 2 before 1, it will still continue onto the flash screens, but will Error 270 at 1-10%.....
Hope this helps some of you!

Maybe if next time you are more clear with what you are trying to get help on. We can help you.
Error 720 is/has nothing to do with "Installing programs"
Think about it.
That was regards to gixxum, and in my post of installing programs, I clearly stated installing the keyboard and I believe the sirius program. I am sorry for all the confusion. Later

BigLarge: we're just trying to have fun, did you get your cabs installed?
Im almost afraid to say it, but no, I put them on the phone and it seems to install but nothing after that, I have learned to type with what ever text is on there though.
I've been reading up on this upgrade, and I'm very interested. The only thing is, if I do this, will it unlock my phone and if my phone unlocks, will it still work with my phone insurance? Also, were there any problems after doing this with MMS that I can fix if I were to encounter any? I've read people having problems with MMS afterwards and I use it pretty frequently so I don't want that to be like messed up. Thanks in advance for any replies.
With regards to insurance if your on about your carrier then you just flash back to the original ROM, with regards to MMS issues i'm baffled as it's simple to set up and with thousands on thousands of users with no issues there seems to be a small ammount of users with issues, you can set up automatically via connection setup or even input all the info manually if you wish.
The ammount of extra you get with WM6.1 i bet that once flashed you will never want to see WM6 anywhere... And if not you just flash back to stock ROM.

First things first, you need to sda app unlock. Click on the link , go to post no.4 , download zip and follow what the post says.

Second, The phone companies don't like it when you install unofficial roms on their phones, you can also find an official rom in the forum to place in your phone later if needed.
Third, some problems happen to some phones,it doesn't mean that you'll have the mms problem, but let me tell you something about this forum, we have the coolest people and they'll always help you when you need it. specially Stylez.

You do realize you gave NO information at all with your statement. What is it you were installing?
Did you read through the first few posts of this thread thoroughly [CAB] GSM&CDMA Project Android Port and Startup Utility [05/10] GPS NOW WORKING! and follow the directions and install one of the cab files from the download link on the first post?
There's a few options but as I saw beside each download link it showed exactly what the version was.. whether it be android 2.1 or android 2.1 with sense etc etc.
Downloads (Project Android)
the install is really... really simple. I'm not sure how you can screw it up if you follow the directions... ie
Copy to SD card
Install: This .cab has to be installed directly to your SD card or it will not work!
Soft Reset your handset
Run Project Android (MJGDroidUtil.exe) from your new start menu icon and enjoy!
It's really that simple.
Good luck

oh lordy..u need to know those code words..lol or it might not work if u installing the wrong version. so u have a tilt 2 like me n a similar rom. No, u dont need to download the linux in order to get android. heres the scoop. theres 3 android builds...2.01, the AOSP 2.1, and the Klinux 2.1 with Sense 2.5. then u also have a rhobunto program thats a form of linux that u can put in ur phone also. who is ur service with? im figuring att or some GSM network. our phones are GSM but can b used on others also. try out the AOSP 2.1 cab. its the most stable build of Android for Rhodium and has the least amount of things u need to do to get service and data working. First delete any trace of whatever build u tried to download that said didnt work. if u have Clear temp or Clean ram, use that too afterwards. then download the cab file directly to the root of storage card which is /storage . makes sure its at the root and not in a folder. then install the cab. after install..do a soft reset. then when u boot back up, in ur start menu, u should see an Android icon or the Haret. exe/startup utility icon. click on that. then select the corresponding keyboard that matches the tilt 2..its like in the middle or something. this next step is optional but i would do it to have the latest files. next step, while in the that screen, press the menu softkey. U should see something that says Update, Apps, Exit. click on the updates. click all 3 boxes if they not already. then press update. it updates the crucial files zimage, roofts., and the intrdgz files. so ull be up to date. after those update, press close. itll take u back to the startup utility screen. press RUN ANDROID...then hopefully, u good to go...make sure to read the wiki or the project android thread for rhodium so u know what to do if any issues come up. be patient while haret loads up and dont press no buttons...lol the first boot up takes a lil while but afterwards, it loads up way faster. after haret loads, u should be at a black screen that says Android and is flshing. thats the startup screen for android. after that ANdroid starts up. i just wanna emphasize the importance of reading the info up here so u know what works and what doesnt. cuz if u come askn in the threads about something already stated, alot of veteran members might jump on ur case..lol its worth the extra effort. trust me..i know its a ****load to read but its needed so u know the in and outs of whats going on. let me know if u got it up and running. I havent installed Rhobunto yet, so i cant advise on that , if thats what u want. but definitely try the AOSP build. cuz if u get the sense build, u have to enter in ur apn settings n all that. with the AOSP, everything works right off the bat, the voice service and data. once u get seasoned a lil, then try the sense build. if u get stuck on somethin, let me know or send a PM. ill see what i can do to guide ya on the install.
well i got it to work i found out my problem was using opera ten for downloading and it was not downloading all the way and it took forever so i switch it to ie and downloaded fifteen min later it installed and well the only complaint i have is that android sucks my battery dry even in the charger what can i do about it other than that wow i love it...thank you so much

right now with the build, when u boot into android, it doesnt give u accurate readings. theres no way it literally drains the battery while plugged up to the charger unless u got something else in there or like max brightness or somethin..lmfao like u can be in windows and be 100% battery and immediately once u boot into android, itll show that ur only at like 60-70%. its false. it can get all the way down to 5% left in Android, and if u boot back to windows , ull see ur battery still almost full..lol whatever u do, try not to let Android drain the battery completely. it doesnt have a cut off point and will drain it dry and not let u reboot. if that happens , just plug it up to the wall charger, not usb/pc cable charging, and ull be good in 5-10 mins. plugging it up to ur computer after it drained will literally take several several hrs. to get enough power back in there to reboot. your phone needs a minimum amount to get it started.
Glad u got android workn. just make sure to read up on it...even if ur a newb...as u can see , the more veteran members can be snarky at times when people come in asking questions over and over again thats already been answered in the past. The wiki, this forum, and the android rhodium project page will give u all the info u need.
hi everyone
i flashed the xxjpu rom into my Galaxy S International then used the cf root thing i found on the xda-developers forum, everything's going perfect- except ive lost my GPRS/ 3G connection
is it becasue of the rom? if so, what do you recommend?
is it the root? then what root should i use?
is there a way i can fix this problem without having to reset everything? cuz i really dont wanna lose my current settings
PS. i found out how to do the screen cpture in froyo using this phone -i didnt find anything about it here- so heres the thing: press your finger somewhere between return and home and then press home while still having one finger between home and return to get a natural froyo screen capture. remember, not totally on return, between return and home
what rom do you have?
you can use this one it is simple and ultra fast-and it will maybe fix your problem
