Any Power Saving tips for WM6? - HTC Excalibur

Does anyone have any power saving tips for WM6, specifically using the Exalibur model.
All I've done was lower the display and backlight timeout settings. And whenever I'm not using it, I've placed it in locked mode.
I remember with my old PDA in Windows Mobile 2002, that when I pressed the off button, it would simply hibernate or go into standby showing the home screen immediately when I turned it on. It seems that locking is the only way for quick access.
So if anyone has any other power management tips, I'd appreciated them.
Thanks

Disable OBEX if it's on, ensure wi-fi is disabled if not in use, & if you over clocked use a program that lowers the cpu cycles when the display is dim or off.

hello, what is OBEX? what program work fine for underclock the S620?
thanks

I use tornado power control & OMAP Clock. OBEX is file transfer over bluetooth. The Dash calls it Beam, not Beam as in Infrared since the Dash doesn't have IR.

also dim your LED to blik only when notification pending, use program DoNotForget

screensaver clocl

Hi,
I am looking for a screensaver clock for my XDAIIs for when the device is switched off.
Does anyone know of any, freeware preferably?
Thanks martin0818
Spb Time http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/time/?en
Dockware/Dockware Pro http://www.iliumsoft.com/site/fg/dockware.htm
cheers.
These seem to be for when the device is in the cradle or switched on.
I am looking for one to display when i switch the phone off. eg i switch the power off my phone and then it displays the screensaver clock - all of the buttons are still locked until i switch it back on. I previously had a Nokia 6100 that had this feature.
any ideas...
Thanks in advance martin0818
Spb Time will automatically launch after x number of minutes of inactivity, with the exception of customizable programs that are running (i.e. Sprite Backup or CPU-intensive applications, etc).

When you switch the XDA off, it's off. The screen is off. it won't display anything, including a screensaver...
The XDA does not work like a 'normal' phone in this respect. If it did, you'd run out of battery very quickly cos the display is so much bigger than a normal phone.
ok..thanks anyway

mobipocket problem

hi, i have a minor problem using mobipocket ebook reader. its really very annoying that the backlight turns off after my preset "turn off backlight if device is not used for..." which is 30 secs. i use the autoscroll function of the reader and i dont understand why the iis fails to recognise that mobipocket is running.is there a workaround for this problem?
2 things to look for.
1. in the backlight settings, tick on... turn on backlight when the screen is tapped.. probably it is already done.
2. in mobipocket --- general settings, tick touch screen turn page..
if this does not work.. then just reinstall

thanks for the response but the solution you proposed is not exactly connected to my problem because i dont want to use the tap screen to turn page function.i use autoscroll.primarily,i want for the backlight to stay on while im reading without having to constantly tap on the screen as it scrolls.as you probably know, once you tap on the screen scrolling stops and it really annoys me because i read so that i could get sleepy.it kinda defeats the purpose of "AUTO"scroll if you have to still use the stylus or your finger to keep the backlight on.

I don't want to revive a five-year-ago problem again, but I have the same problem. While autoscroll is active, the backlight turns off!
Any suggestions?
usually, if you set your display backlight to turn off after 30sec without activity, it will switch off after 30sec. without activity. no surprises there.
activity for that setting is defined by tapping the screen or pressing a hardware button, not by any program running.
usually games, the camera and multimedia players bypass that with their own setting of keeping the backlight alive while the program is run, so you could for example run tcpmp or coreplayer on pause in the background to keep the display lid.
or you set your backlight not to turn off when on ac power and connect the cable.

Windows Mobile 6.1 ... Screen not going to sleep?

Just upgraded to Windows Mobile 6.1, and for whatever reason, if my phone is unlocked and idle, it no longer goes to "sleep." Instead of the backlight turning off like in WM6, the backlight goes full brightness and displays a white screen. Has anyone seen this before? Any workaround/fix?
Thanks!
Sounds like you got the wrong display driver for your phone. What phone and what ROM are you running ?!

I've had this problem before!
It happened when I was playing with the power management settings in the Registry. I found if I then locked my phone (e.g. long press of hang up button), the screen would time out and go completely white on full brightness.
To fix it was easy enough - just change the power management reg keys.
Once I screwed them up soo much I had to do a hard reset so watch out before playing.
Mine has been doing this also, I believe it may have something to do with the Light Config option in CeleTask. Will test more

And what should I change the power management reg keys to?
Could you give more detailed instructions, including which keys to change, and what to change them to?
Thanks!

Yes I believe so too because it only happens when I use the low light option as well.
first off try....
go into power management under settings.
1. backlight time out on battery should not be set to never.
2. backlight time out on AC could but it still will turn off after the time period you have set for the next setting.
3. Display timeout- will turn off the display off completely after the time period set here.
1 and 2 low dim the screen prior to setting on 3
turn lowlight off... it hardly ever works. lol

Power off backlight?

Hi!
I am looking for tweak or application which turns off backlight - not just dim the display to lower level after some time.
I want to completely turn off backlight to 0% and when the screen is tapped the backlight is on again.
Any solution for this?
ya core player does that...even tcmp player

If in Setup>Power supply>Advanced click on "Deactive device when not run for"
this setup turns off all display lights after minute that you set and in the same time blocks all keys.
To reactivate the handheld just press the power button.
I find this setup very useful.
Exscuse me because I have not an english ROM and I don't know if I have made a right translation of commands.
Thanks luigug, but that is how I configure my device from start.
The point is that I dont want to press power button again to activate device, just to tap on screen and use slide to unlock application.
Any other clues?
Thanks
you are right, this is a major design mistake in wm6 "features", and all wm6 devices suffer from it. This behaviour actualy make the native windows Device lock function unusable. Also, wm is much more stable if you never suspend it, and battery performance is almost the same.
I even searched for a wm5 downgrade rom for my eten m800 (wm5 does not have the dimming "feature"), but without success.
I still hope someone will manage to get a fix for this to function like in the wm5 days (my mio a701 was able to do it easely). Maybe we should make a wish topic in development section ?

Using Tasker to save that battery

Just thought I would post some of my tasker setup to make my battery last a very long time!
First you need Tasker
You also need Secure Settings
And lastly you need Synker
if you want to make my settings super easy to install just download the two attached files and place them on the Sdcard in the Tasker folder.
userbackup.xml
userbackup.xml.txt
then start Tasker, click on the menu button and select Data then restore. This will place all my prebuilt settings in for you.
The first profile I have is Mobile. I have this profile made for when I am in my car but its settings are for anytime power is plugged in.
The things it does is: Turn on GPS, Turn off auto brightness, turn display brightness to max, turn auto sync on, turn media volume to full, turn display time out to one hour.
When unplugged from power it does the following: Turn off GPS, display turns off after 30 seconds, Auto brightness on, Auto sync off, wifi off.
The next setting turns on GPS automatically once maps or navigation is started then turns it off once you exit those apps.
The next one is the big battery saver! When the display is off it Turns off mobile data and wifi.
When the display turns on it will wait five seconds and then turn on mobile data.
lastly I have it setup to turn on mobile data every 2 hours and sync gmail then turn mobile data back off.
I have had tasker for a long time but never really dug into it until I got the SG2. I think this will make your battery last much much longer.
If anyone has better suggestions please add your input.

i have the same setup but use juice defender to do the same thing as tasker and synker. it can actually more, like sync more or less at certain times of the day. but i've been thinking about switching to tasker, might be more battery efficient.
i'm using secure settings to turn gps on\off too, based on what applications get run. i noticed the little tray icon only turns on when an app is actively using the gps tho. does that mean gps only uses battery when actually in use? but it seems like i get more battery with it turned off completely.
for mobile, i'm going to attach gps to my car's nfc sticker instead of when plugged in. might be a little faster for charging at home.
i guess you could use secure settings and tasker to only turn nfc on at the lockscreen. although i'm not convinced nfc uses much battery.
lets see... i'm also using tasker to immediately turn off the display if upside down (in my pocket).
it turns data off if i'm reading an ebook or watching a video.
i use it for 1 click switching between 2g and 4g.
i use it to switch cpu max between 192000, 918000, and 1728000. you can get crazy battery life by running 192000 all day, but everything will run slow. usually i keep it at 918000 and play games at 172800.
there are lots of other things, but that's the battery stuff.

Hey ,I just wanna say thanks I was getting 8 hours on a Verizon extended battery but now using your settings and tasker plus extra apps I'm getting 14 to 15 ,I just wanted to add that it in order to use secure setting you have to root your phone but it worth it.

Do you still have these backup files? The links are dead when I try them. I would like to try out your settings.

First post and it's a necro asking for something. I swear I used to have an account here in high school.
Anyway, I think those files are gone. Every time I come back to Tasker I try to start from the group up and a day later I'm fiending for backup.xmls/txt just whatever you use for your battery, please, just a quick string of code.
