@all,
running wm6, bepe, now for a couple of days, I find myself not being able to get quickgps nor winupdate to work, connecting via usb!
quick gps says "connection failed" all the time.
winupdate constantly says "connection update server not found", displays "result code 80072f7d" under "view details".
internet explorer via usb/activesync. gives me "...unknown error 0x80072f78"
any remedies here?

SOLUTION:
Its a problem with XP and active sync! See:http://www.aximsite.com/boards/activesync/137666-fix-unknown-error-0x80072f78.html
post NR 6 gives reg.file to merge easily.
remember, your no longer running a device pre-configured by t-mobile. So you need to create the GPRS connection first before you can connect.
I've done some searching and one thread on this forum indicates it is not possible to Disable / Ignore Server Certificate checks.
While I have read that some roms have been cooked to do this?
Is there a hack or anything that I can apply to stop "server certificate is not valid" messages?
Thanks.

A little more information would be really great... Seriously, we know absolutely nothing about your device, ROM version, Exchange server version, etc...
Ah, I do apoligise, I thought it was generic and am fairly new to this!
I am running WM6 on a Vario MDA II.
The message happens when I try to connect to my internet provider to download POP mail.

So you've ticked the SSL required box on your pop settings for that account?
Does it need SSL? Try it unticked.
Yes. The SSL is ticked.
Without it, it does not work. With it, it works, I get the error -but- can continue.
So far I remember, it is possible to disable cert check (for WM5 at least). Someone posted the required reg tweak in the hermes forum a long time ago.
Good luck for finding it
The easiest way is still to add the CA to the trusted root
try this (worked on WM5),

The Windows Update which you are referring to is the same as PC Windows Update. It needs to connect to Microsoft server to check for updates for you OS. Check you Internet connectivity (but don't waste too much time with it, there are no new updates there nor there are planned to be).
Hi all,
Since re-installing activesync my PC will not pair with my PDA. The PDA connects as a guest and I can use activesync to install software and browse files, but I cannot sync!
I believe a sync wizard is supposed to open but this doesn't happen.
I really hope you can help as I currently have no calendar or contact data on the PDA.

Open AtiveSync with phone NOT connected, goto "File" and "remove portable device" (or similar, I've italian version, I don't know exacly string in english).
If there is an old configuration, in this way you'll remove it, then it must start the wizard... (I hope...)
Hi!
Thanks for the reply! There are no existing partnerships in Activesync, because it is a new installation!

I thought it was a re-install... You can try removing all drivers and ActiveSync and reinstalling all, it seems an istallation problem or a wrong ActiveSync version...
Try to download ActiveSync newly
If you have any kind of firewall software try to disable it...
Then, if activesync works, you have to set up new firewall rules...
Did any of these methods work? did you do something else to make it work??
This is how I got it working.....
go to settings/connections, open USB-PCand untick "the enable advanced network configuration"
if this does not work, and if your trying to sync to an outlook server then in settings/connection, choose connections, chose advanced tab, select networks, then ensure both have chosen the same network ( ie my Work Network). On the chosen network chose edit, and you should see a Proxy Setting tab.. Choose this and ensure the only top box is ticked ( this network connects.....)
worked for me... dunno why?
yeah try xda-boj's one it should work fine
start\settings\connections\usb to pc and uncheck 'enable advanced network functionality'
Thanks for the suggestions. I know I wasn't clear in my earlier posts, so:
- I had Activesync 4.5 installed, and it worked.
- Then file transfer from the PDA to the PC stopped working (the files appeared to transfer, but did not appear on the PC)
- So, I uninstalled Activesync 4.5, downloaded it again, and reinstalled it.
- After the re-install, Activesync would not create a partnership with my PDA running WM6.
- The partnership wizard does not start!
- I don't get any error message; in fact nothing happens, except that the PDA connects as a "guest", so I am able to browse files and install software but not actually sync.
- I have tried: disabling Windows Firewall; disabling Avast! anti-virus; checking that all connection protocols are enabled in the "network connections" control panel; re-installing Activesync again; and finally I got the same error on another PC.
- I haven't yet tried unchecking the "Enable advanced network functionality" box - I'll try that as soon as I get home tonight.
Beyond uninstalling Activesync, is there anything else I should be doing to start with a clean system?
Thanks again,
K
I have the same problem.
You can try reinstall the active sync app (repair option) and then reconnect and uncheck "the enable advanced network configuration".
I am doing this evey time
I've tried unchecking "Enable advanced network functionality", but that doesn't solve it!

Where can I find this option?
K
start->settins->USD to PC-> Enable advanced network functionality
Oh, OK. I'd already done that! Keep coming in with suggestions though!
Hi,
when I connect it to the PC me appears the window of "chosen connect" but any options use, start always the option selectionated in preselesction SETTING-> USB to PC also if I check option " you ask type of logon when me connection"
sorry for my english
tahnk you
Are you trying to say that your phone always connects to your computer as a USB device even if you select something different?
Sounds like it.
I've got a similar issue, my screen is dead so I can't select anything and it comes up as a disk drive. Kinda need to get it to active sync so I can back the phone up to restore to my new one.
Without being able to see or use the screen I can't, unless there is a keyboard method to choose activesync.
when I connect htc (with USB) to PC, appears this option selection:
(whatch the image to the link)
farm3.static.flickr.com/2007/4514994648_92afa7bd15.jpg
now, if I select the option disk-drive,
don't start option disk-drive but activesync because is preselect in menu "SETTING-> USB to PC"
(whatch the image to the link)
farm5.static.flickr.com/4060/4496803689_c5ace06880.jpg
the same think if I select the option activesync but the preselect in menu "SETTING-> USB to PC" is diskdrive, start option activesync...

This is not the correct behavior.
So it seems like it works properly if you have the preselection set as "diskdrive" One option could be to just leave it set there.
A common problem though, and is probably what is giving you trouble, is the checkbox "enable faster data syncronization". Frequently, this just doesn't work out (not sure why) and the computer can not establish an active sync connection. The ppc or activesync self corrects by defaulting to a diskdrive connection.
uncheck the "enable faste data syncronization" box in settings, restart your phone and pc (verify the box is still unchecked after restart) and try the active sync again. Let us know how it goes... good luck.

Tried with the faster data box and without, mine starts active sync...which I want and need, it lasts for about one minute, then it disconnects and can no longer recognize the device unless I shut down the computer and do it again....but it just repeats this same things every time.

Hello!
Please insert this into registry:
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\USB\FunctionDrivers]
"DefaultClientDriver"="RNDIS"
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\HTC\BootLauncher\Services\HTCUSBToPCPopUp]
"Module"="\\Windows\\HTCUSBToPCSrv.dll"
"Prefix"="UTP"
"Index"=dword:00000000
"Info"=dword:00000000
"Order"=dword:0000000a
"Flags"=dword:00000000
"Keep"=dword:00000001
"Context"=dword:00000000
"DisplayName"="HTCUSBToPC Service"
"Description"="USB To PC PopUp Service"
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\OEM\USBtoPC]
"AskConnect"=dword:00000001
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\USBToPCPopUP]
"OnlyTwoChoice"=dword:00000000
"ItemFlags"=dword:0000001f
"DeviceCompanion"=dword:00000000
"ShowTime"=dword:00000005
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\OEM\USBtoPC]
"SyncMode"=dword:00000000
"EnableAdvanceChecked"=dword:00000001
"DisablePopUpUI"=dword:00000000
This should reset USB_To_PC to default settings and also ensure that you're running the proper driver.
Have a nice day,
Jackos

Just create the keys.
I tried to make a cab from those reg entries but couldn't make it install successfully...
There might be typo ("Advance" instead of "Advanced" ?) or is the cab I made not good for my machine (TP2) ?
Could anyone make OR help me make a working cab installer (without confirmation please, my "touch" screen is broken and I need it to put the original rom back before sending my TP2 back) ?
Thanks a lot
