TomTom home setting.. - General Accessories

I managed to get a "free" copy of TT6, but everytime I start the program I have to re-input my home location. It does not save it.
Anyone know how to get it to keep my setting?
Thanks
Brad

First, I don't see much point in you pointing out to us that you illegally downloaded the software; just keep that to yourself. Granted that could always be part of the problem, but if it is, then it's your problem. If you illegally download something, you can't always expect it to work right.
However, to answer you, my first guess would be to look where the application (and it's configuration file, not sure what it is off the top of my head) is located, and see if it's in an area where the application has no permission to write to. If it doesn't have permission then it will fail to save it's settings whenever you close the application. Do any other settings not stick, or is it just that one? I've had no problem with it on my device (Titan).

Free wasn't meant to imply illegal, sorry for the confusion. Was a hand-me-down, hence I didn't have to pay for it.
I've looked amd there is a config, but it's loaded with www addresses, nothing in there about a location or any other data.

Netorking ES File Explorer

Guys,
I've recently installed the App ES File Explorer but have come across two issue's when using the networking option.
Basically the App has a Tab to select a LAN, you then ask it to scan for any items on your local area network and it successfully picks up my Windows 7 64bit Laptop and gives it the appropriate name.
However, when I click on ithe Laptop name to connect and see it's contents on my SGS I get two problems:-
1. It asks for a Username & Password?
Now I don't have any Usernames or Passwords on my Laptop for logging in but if I leave this blank on the SGS it repeatedly asks for the above.
If I type in Admin & Admin it accepts it but now we get to the next problem below.
2. Unable to access files?
Every time I click on the Laptop name to establish a connection it simply informs me it is unable to find the laptop nor establish a connection.
Can anyone help me out here in the settings I need for both the SGS and the Laptop.
Thanks in advance
Beards
Also using Win 7 & ES, when I came across this, I ended up giving 'Everybody' on the network access to the Public Documents folder, (using Properties>Sharing>Share Button, not 'Share with') & that worked fine, as no combination of username/password (that I tried) worked.

Thanks for coming in on this.... It appears I have a bigger problem in understanding networking than I thought.
If I can explain the situation maybe you could pass on your verdict.
In trying to first set up a LAN network on the SGS using ES after I clicked on Menu/New I chose 'Scan'.
After scanning it came back and found 'Mike-Laptop.home' with the IP address underneath.
When I now click on this a small warning box appears in ES saying "smb://192.168.X.XX (where X equals IP address)
Network path not found or time out, Please try again".
It's at this point I am lost.
Basically I'm trying to let the SGS have access to my entire Laptop's hard drive.
Am I asking too much here?
I found the Public folder and did as you say (although using this option we are just sharing what lays in the Public folder) but on the SGS using ES nothing shows up...
So, I suppose it's a two part question:-
1. Using the C: drive what settings do I need for both Laptop & ES Explorer?
2. Using the Public folder again what settings for both machines are required.
Note: I just knew before I started this that surgery which I perform would be much easier.
You need to set a password on your laptop for it to work. Obviously, you don't want anyone on your local net to connect to your laptop right?
You don't need to share folders on your laptop, once you've authenticated and logged in, you get access to all drives.

That was about as much help as a concrete parachute!
You obviously did not read my last message.
I have already established using Admin followed by Admin seems to work.
I am more concerned in HOW to set up BOTH the Laptop & ES so that when I click on the connection for Mike-Laptop.home it finds the network.
Sorry for the delay, here is what I have come up with for what it's worth.
I established that you must have 'File & printer sharing for Microsoft networks' enabled, as without this ES filex doesn't see any PCs.
To check I disabled the above, then re-enabled it & got the same result as you, ie: 'Network path not found or time out' even though the Public folder is shared.
I then went to the properties of 'My Documents' & enabled sharing & added read / write permissions for the 'Guest' account, after doing this I can click on my Windows PC in ES filex & it then shows the printers (a bit useless) & C$, which is the administative access the the C drive (doesn't work), plus the other drives & the 'Users' folder, if you go into this folder you should see your username (on the PC) as a folder, also the 'Public' folder, inside each should be the respective shared 'Documents' folders.
I feel ES filex is maybe not capable of passing the SMB (the protocol being used) password to the Windows PC in the appropriate manner.
Hope this is of some help, let us know if it is / isn't.
PS: At least in IT stuff, even if it's a really important thing that goes wrong, you do get a fairly painless second chance to fix it, whereas, when I had angioplasty performed recently, I was watching the monitors & praying that nobody said "Oh Damn!" as you know what the second chance is in that situation. So I for one applaud your profession.
Hi Alan,
Once again my thanks to you on popping back.
In our home whenever my wife wishes to thread a needle she always turns to me and says with a smile "come on, lets see how good those hands are".
Steady hands, rock steady hands is what a surgeon needs.....
Now jump forward to IT ~~~~ I am now at the mercy of the Gods and it's sinister Black Magic.
Frustratingly I can perform a nine hour operation with a mans life at the edge and not once break out into a sweat or uncertainty..... but these bloody PC's have me running around in a never ending circle... Oh how I mistrust these infernal devices.
That's why I use and understand the phone more than my PC.
Anyway, moving on... Let's see what kind of mess I'm still in:-

You mention ''File & printer sharing for Microsoft networks' must be enabled.
Sorry but where is this located?
On my Windows 7 64bit I could not find it.
Under Control Panel 'Network & Internet' there is an option to select 'Choose Homegroup and sharing options.
If I then select this all libraries and printers are already ticked.

When I go to the properties of My Documents I can not find an option to enable sharing.
There is under the sharing tab a box with the word share which when selected I note all libraries and printers have a tick.
Also, the 'Guest' item is set to Read/Write.
One thing I have noticed is that if I right click on any folder and from the drop down menu select 'share with', the top item 'Nobody' has a padlock associated.
Hope this is of some help, let us know if it is / isn't.

Marvelous how something as simple as a balloon catheter can achieve so much.

Right.... got to go. Have notes to write and people to see.
I'm going to give it one more go later but after that ~ it get's the chop!

'Homegroup sharing' is a Windows 7 PC to PC only, sharing protocol, designed to make small network setup easier.

Just to confirm, that is the 'Sharing' tab in the 'My Documents' property box & the 'Share' button is in the 'Network File and Folder Sharing' section.
If so, when you click the button you should see a dialogue box headed: 'Choose people to share with', where there is a list of users & permissions.

This is more related to the "easy" sharing associated with Homegroups, but once a folder is shared (as above) then clicking on the 'Specific People...' in that drop down related to the shared folder or any subfolders, should show the same users with their permissions

Yes great improvement, thank you & I have given up the bad things, so the good work doesn't go to waste.
Yes, simple, in terms of mechanics, but complex in the application. I was very pleased at one stage in the procedure that very fine carbon fibre wire had been created.

Whether this is where I am going wrong but on my Windows 7 64bit Laptop I don't have that option in the Control Panel 'Network and Internet'.
Instead of seeing 'Network and Sharing Centre' what I see is either 'View network status and tasks' or 'Chose Homegroup and sharing options'.
Nothing mentioned in reference to Network and Sharing Centre or a 'Local Area Connection'.
It sounds like the missing Local Area Connection is my problem.
I'll have a dig around when I have some more time.....
Thanks again Alan

Sorry to labour the point, but after clicking on control panel, if you then click on the 'Network and Internet' heading in green, does it then take you to a window with 'Network and Sharing Center'?
Also I'm assuming that both the laptop & phone are connected to the same wireless network.

I feel we are nearing 'THIS PART' of the quest.
Yes, I found the 'hidden' green menu (sorry I did not realize by clicking on the title Network and Internet in green it would take me to the missing 'Network and Sharing Center) and this loaded the said window.
Unfortunately, even after clicking on this at what was shown I could not find any mention of the wording 'Location Area Connection'.
Obviously I am missing something quite glaring but it is evading my eyes.
Apologies in all these messages Alan... apologies.
I'm due back in theatre now and won't be back until 11PM so if you do post back I'll pick it up then.
Thanks
Yes. I think we may be.
After clicking on 'Network and Internet' then 'Network and Sharing Center' then hopefully you should come to the page with 'Connections: Local Area Connection' (this might not say exactly that, but the LAN connection will be in this position.)
Hopefully this will move it on a bit.

Hello again Alan,
Literally just out of theatre... a busy 6hrs straight but another happy customer.
I've only got a few minutes then I must pop back down and see the ladies family.
It would seem my Network and Sharing Centre is different to yours.
The item I have to click on is titled 'View Network Status and Tasks'.
When I then click on this I get the same window as the second picture you have kindly uploaded with the exception where on the right on mine it does not mention anything to do with LAN.
Instead where it says Connections: mine then says 'Wireless Network Connection (BTHomeHub2-W75N)'
Nothing further is mentioned so obviously (and I don't understand why) the selection of anything to do with the Local Area must be located elsewhere on my system.
My good Son-in-Law is coming over tomorrow evening and he has offered to have a look to see if he can locate the missing section.
I feel once I have this in place things should start to fall together.
My only concern though will be once the Local Area has been sorted, getting the Galaxy and ES to link may end up being called to say enough is enough.
I'm known well for not giving in to matters (stubbornness as my Wife kindly informs me) that I do not understand but as in this case as it involves others as in your good self I do not wish to burden you with this problem in such a manner whereas opening the next reply becomes a headache for you.
Okay Alan.... time to dash.
Again my thanks for your continued assistance.
I (almost) never give up, 'Network and Sharing Center' & 'View Network Status and Tasks' indeed both take you to the same place, as do a lot of things in Windows (I have to admit I mainly use Linux, PC as well as phone).
It looks like, whilst you have a network connection, you don't actually have a network, per se. The following links explain the subject quite well.

Sorry, that's cheating a bit, I know, but it saves (me) a bit of typing.
Let me know if it helps.
Thanks again Alan.
Only had time for a very brief look but pleased you pointed me towards this issue.
Apologies but unfortunately any progress will have to wait now until the weekend I'm afraid.
00:45AM ~ Left Hospital for drive back home, 01:14AM ~ arrived home, 01:30AM ~ in bed, 03:17AM ~ phone rang ~ I'm needed up in Scotland as they can't fly the patient to me. Flight booked for later this morning.
I'm taking my Laptop & Phone (obviously) with me so if I get a chance I'll have a read.
Catch you later Alan... time now 06:40AM got to dash flight to catch

Hi Alan,
Got back from Scotland and my Son-in-Law came round and I'm very happy to report he fixed it for me.
What he did was load up 'Windows Firewall with Advanced Features', then first clicked on 'Inbound Rules' and altered the first two lines of 'File and Printer Sharing (Echo Request) then did the same with the 'Outbound Rules'.
Now I can happily see my Laptop from the Galaxy.
Thanks again Alan for your patience and dedicated help, without which I would have put this task down some time back to leave for another day.
All the best.

10x a lot!
P.S. When I open a video from internal sd card or external sd card I use default Video Player, but when I open a video file via lan (streaming) it opens with FS Video Player.

Consequences of Removing Market

So I need to know what the consequences are of removing market from the phone? The reason I ask is we are getting ready to issue these out as corporate phones, and other than the software we have on them, we don't want any additional software installed. The obvious easiest way is to just remove market, unless there is some app that can restrict market. I know that we will lose the ability to update apps, but other than that I don't see much else. The last thing I need is for them to download rogue software and charge up the company accounts. Thanks!
A better thing to do will be to block any new installations by some kind of administrator access rather than take out market. Taking out market is not at all harmful nor does it interfere with anything.
If i were you and I had to seriously limit the applications on the phone then I would at least find an app on market that can install only after putting in a password or someting like that. Uninstalling market will not do any good. People can still install by putting in an apk file to their sd card.
Ideally that would be the way that I would do it. Under Windows Mobile I could. Under Android..... I haven't found an app that's capable of doing so. I suppose I could start getting in and changing permissions on folders through root, but I really don't want to go down that road. I know they can search and download apps otherwise than the app market, but it removing the temptation that helps. You know how users can be.
You will need to rely on google then. Here is a sample of what might help you.
http://www.facebook.com/pages/Android-Parental-Control-App/123629131031273
Hope you find many more apps like these.
I saw that earlier, but its almost too Draconian. The hand holding Android would upset many of the Adult employees. Laughing. I think I may have found another way around it though. Remove the obvious Apps, but then I found an app called Droid wall which you can use to interface with IP tables to block access to market. They can view market, but you can't download. This prevents using the marketplace as well as trying to load from a website. It's password protected so it can be turned off easy enough if needed. It doesn't prevent side-loading the apps but I'm not to worried about my users doing that. If they do, it proves obvious intent to bypass company policy. Hoping this works.

[Q] how hide apps in start menu of Windows 10 Mobile "or" add whitelist to Edge?

[Q] how hide apps in start menu of Windows 10 Mobile "or" add whitelist to Edge?
Hi,
is it possible to "hide" an app from the W10M start menu? And I don't refer to the home screen, I mean the full list of apps.
Or would there be a way to let the browser only work with a whitelist? .. No, Microsoft Family does not work properly on W10M.
Background - feel free to call me soft:
- Bought a Lumia 640 XL for my wife and a 2nd hand Lumia 535 for my daughter (to be her first smartphone, getting 9 end of the month) so that they could "share" the same experience, more or less.
- Played around with the "Microsoft Family" feature, and, to make it short, it doesn't work properly, not nearly close to what was expected or advertised. That might change ... in a few months. Maybe.
At least the URL filtering does not work "at all".
- So, in short, in order not to instantly fall back to pick an Android based device for my daughter (one beloved Razr i still in close range...), I was wondering if it was possible to "hide" one or the other thing from the start menu instead, the Edge browser in particular. Uninstallation I don't expect to be possible, probably being a deeper chunk of the OS, but only touching the start menu I concluded "should" be possible, one way or the other. At least I hope so.
Would I start to deal with the "full file system access" approach or rather try to dive into registry fiddling? Any help or maybe clear hint would be highly appreciated.
By now I did not find anything related to this. Neither here at xda or somewhere else. Probably no one considers doing something like that for his kids on Windows 10 Mobile ...
Who would want to hide a browser on a smartphone, anyway? .. yeah, I can't keep my kids "off" of the bad Internet, but I can at least keep an eye upon as long as possible.
Thanks in advance,
regards,...
bloodot
additional remark:
... after adding "a few" URLs to Microsoft's web interface for blocking URLs (via a web automation tool, yeah, I'm lazy...) it stopped working at 1003 regitered URLs. So, as long as they don't come up with something that works (whitlist... external service for checking URLs... whatever...) any help on this matter would be highly appreciated.
You want to keep her off the "web," correct?
Change your Mobile Data & Wifi DNS to 127.0.01
(You will need interop/FS access: )
Create a hosts file in C://Windows/system32/drivers/etc
Determine what sites you want to *allow* and find their IP. For example, if you want to whitelist Facebook, open cmd.exe from your PC and type:
Code:
ping facebook.com
You'll see:
Code:
C:\WINDOWS\system32>ping facebook.com
Pinging facebook.com [31.13.76.68] with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 31.13.76.68: bytes=32 time=75ms TTL=82
Reply from 31.13.76.68: bytes=32 time=76ms TTL=82
Reply from 31.13.76.68: bytes=32 time=79ms TTL=82
Reply from 31.13.76.68: bytes=32 time=74ms TTL=82
Ping statistics for 31.13.76.68:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 74ms, Maximum = 79ms, Average = 76ms
C:\WINDOWS\system32>
So, you'd add:
Code:
31.13.76.68 facebook.com
31.13.76.68 www.facebook.com
to your phone's host file.
If you can create profiles on your router, you can also do the same (DNS to 127.0.01 for her phone's MAC address)
Doing this would make all of the web unresolvable, except facebook.com
To change the Wifi DNS:
Settings -> Network & Wireless -> Wi-fi -> Static IP -> fill your info
*If your router doesn't support static IP, you should check and see if your router supports profiles, and build one to target her phone mac address.* (If you don't target her mac address/other phone identifier and set your router to 127.0.01, all of the devices on your network will encounter blocked access to the web)
For Mobile Data:
I don't see an immediate switch for this (at least with my provider), it's routed through a network port on their servers. Unless something changes in future builds, it's probably best to just turn mobile data off and use the Wifi/hosts to keep control of what sites she can access.
Thank you very much!
Point is, I don't want to keep her off completely, and the major issue would be to keep control once she's "not" inside our home network but on cellular.
So I think I need to start investigating on my own whether I can manipulate the start menu or even the browser itself.
The local DNS lookup, which would only work on WiFi anyhow, would also result in me analyzing all communcation end points for "any" kind of
app I'd like her to use. Doable, but still the mobile part would be open. Beyond that I cannot block here "re-enabling" the cellular data connection,
the system isn't that strict in that matter. Would be nice, though, ...
@home I already use OpenDNS, probably should have mentioned that, so that's more or less under control.
Let's see if some other ideas or approached pop up from xda; I'm actually trying to get in direct contact with one of the Microsoft Family team
as, on a business level, we're currently working closely with some of the Microsoft 10 teams.
If they, if connected that is, tell me that they're aware of the bugs and that they're actually part of a road map, I'd be happy, too.
However, for the time being I expect I have to sort it on my own.
I'll give it a go with interop and see what I can find to deal with.
So, any other ideas?
Regards,..
bloodot

... the hostsfile will only work via WiFi, at least that's my current understanding as for cellular one cannot change the DNS settings, meaning, you can't make them point towards 127.0.0.1.
App Corner I already "played" around with - it has some other issues
- it's buggy, sometimes it doesn't even start.
- can be bypassed by just restarting the device
- everything "allowed" is available to public, more or less.
- the App Corner does not allow "games" to be made available ...
... hey, so what about the kids' corner?
- well, that doesn't allow the phone app... but still, that would also be a half-baked approach again.
I hope it were at least three different teams designing those packages, the kids' corner, the app corner and the family safety integration.
As a whole, NONE of them delivers what a parent needs when actually "permanently" giving a Windows based phone to one of his children.

And even if it was, it would allow "anyone" who would steal that phone to directly use it's SIM card hazzle free.
And, as a minor annoyance, anything else that would be allowed via that mechanism.
It's just the current truth to deal with, W10M is not child-ready by any means.
If I want more control, I need to switch the phone.
Or start trusting a 9year-ish old girl to deal with the Internet without restrictions.
... so fiddled around with a few things, though interop is active according to the tool itself after sideloading it, wconnect won't work at all (crashes, no proper error given and before that IpOverUsbInstaller won't finish installation), so I can't get that key to get the SSH connection done and therefore I can't get full file access.
I think I'm done with this now. Selling the phone, using the Razr I instead, already have the proper system locking tools in place for that, bye bye Lumia 535. I would have loved to see my child deal with such an "easy" OS interface for getting used to smartphones, but I can't let her have access to the Internet while "not at home" without restrictions. No way.
... went so far and tried miradore to restrict the system via MDM. And guess what ... the f'n browser CANNOT be blocked via MDM. At least miradore has a free trial of 14 days. I was even willing to pay the damn 2$ per month for that service. *sigh* MAYBE it has a URL filter SOMEWHERE ...
... however, at least one can disallow the "usage" of the browser. MAYBE that works. Trying...
Yes. Works. JESUS ... what a mess. Let's see if I can get that done somewhere / somehow via MDM "without" another monthly fee ...
yeah, worked. Pitty though, they want "10$" minimum fee per month.
BUT: ... I stumbled over https://www.manageengine.com/mobile-device-management/
Free for up to 25 devices. Either cloud based (not supporting W10M for now) or Windows based installation (supporting W10M, more up2date...).
And it works. Thank you very much. Case closed.
Though I cannot restrict the URLs ... I can blog the Edge browser. And the Microsoft Store. Happy bunny.

Samsung galaxy note 8.0 mock locations

Hello my friends, this is a kind of funny? post but i need your help!
I work in a company that provides us a Samsung galaxy note 8.0 this device has its policy settings that way so we cant play with settings etc. (you get an "policy does not allow this action" or something message. It also has a gmail account installed that the IT knows the passwords and username and they are able to see the location of the device through google settings.
This is my last 10 days in the company and i have this arsehole supervisor that calls the IT department and asks them to see my location so he can stalk me. I want to make him a joke so he gets his lesson. Next time he asks for my location, he gets his home!!! (specially pinned to the bedroom of his house ) he is a kind of douche that is very jealous and he will think i hamp his wife :good::good::good::good::good:
i found this nice app in google play (fake gps) but it requires "enable mock location"
i AM able to install apps in the device if i get the apk file in the sd card and then install it from "file manager" app.
What i need is a nice little app that enables the mock locations
i have observed that the settings are locked BUT if you install an app that does the job there is no problem.
for example, the device wont let you disable/enable wifi from the scroll down menu or settings, but if you install an app that does the same thing it wont say "no"
in the same way, if there is an app that "enables mock locations" or a nice guy that can provide me with an apk that does the job i would be greatfull.
thanks in advance!
hello my friends again, not a single answere, i understand that you might think i am the douchebag that wants to hurt an inocent supervisor. Just to let you know, the hole team is getting the faq out of the company because of this ahole. He was one of us untill 1 month ago, but when he sat in the bigger chair he made the hole work concept an agonising experience. We are all moving to other company and just want to give him a little surprise....imagine him calling his "friend" at the it and asking the teams location, and finding out we all are in his house!! Asking for the location is highly illegal, we dont move money or drugs, we are just salesmen! He will freak out and learn his lesson, he wont be able to tell anybody that this thing happened because he will be in trouble for stalking us. We dont want him to get fired though, so we want to give him a freak out moment of "oh ****, they are all at my house? wtf?" and run to his house to find us, then he will call us with a douche attitude, not being able to tell "why the faq your stalked device shows my home location?" it will be good type of "goodbye arsehole!!! supervisor of no team at all" i'll even let you know what happened! come on!!! lets laugh a little, its been a realy realy sad month!!
Your device has been encrypted by your supervisor, and without the password you nor any app can enter the device settings. The only way is to wipe the device to the default settings.

thats sad!!! we will have to think of other ways to play with his brains....
im willing to try any ideas, if there are any...
it seems to me that only the "settings app" is locked, since i can change locked settings (like wifi enable/disable, BT enable disable, screen backlight etc) from other apps while i get a "policy does not allow this action" when i try to change them from standard android links. I thought i can change "allow mock locations" from an other "app" too.
how about rooting the device, changing this setting and then unrooting? sounds like a plan, no?
how can i check if device is really encrypted? i have almost 0 experience but it seems to me that the device is locked with a crap app like storm windows back in 1995!
i cant enter the settings....

[Guide] Enable working GPS Change no Rubber banding

This guide is for fixing a GPS Problem when attempting to use spoofing apps, in particular games that require your actual location.
For Example Pokemon GO among others, over time the original exploit to mock location was patched by certain companies when playing their games so now the only reliable way to do this is with root (for several reasons).
So Even with apps like GPS Joystick I found at times the real location was still getting acquired, I attempted to manually disable location services, using the built in features like "AGPS-Reset" still the actual GPS would lock on (obviously not as much in larger buildings) still I wanted to go outside and only mocking location be seen by the apps/games with no actual location working
I figured it out and thought I would share
First things first, You MUST be rooted. If you do not have root and own a V30 variant their are guides to convert and root.
It doesn't work without it, don't ask
For other phone models your mileage may vary (we are looking for a file "gps.conf")
Second, MAKE A BACKUP of the files that will be changed later, if you do not. Then you will most likely have to re-flash or have non-functional GPS and if you do need it you would be boned.
Third, You will need a few tools Ex. ( Terminal Emulator, Systemize [Masgik Module] , GPS Spoofing app I personally use the GPS Joystick Pokemon GO, Root file Explorer of some sort, the game of choice, and a system app or service disabler, like Titanium backup etc)
Now to the fun stuff
Make a backup of /vendor/etc/gps.conf
Install spoofing app (if equipped generate new name for GPS app and then delete the original)
After backing up gps.conf to SD or through adb, delete the original gps.conf in a root file manager then create a blank file in the same location (/vendor/etc) named gps.conf
In effect you just replaced the original with a blank copy, you could manually delete the contents as well but that's more work.
use the appropriate app disabler and disable anything with GNSS, location services, Qualcomm IZAT, Fused Location and anything else that is location service related
Open Terminal Emulator
type in "su"
grant su permissions if asked, make sure you have a # in the prompt
type in "systemize" (Gotten from magisk module download)
convert GPS spoofing app or generated app to a priv-app in the system (It cant be just /system/app)
then exit the systemize app and type "exit" a few times to close the terminal
Make sure when you do change the GPS settings in the actual android menu that you choose GPS only and that WiFi and Bluetooth settings are unchecked, obviously ensure the main GPS switch is enabled but that the rest aside from GPS only is not checked and or enabled
Then reboot your phone THIS IS A REQUIREMENT, for several reasons, it actually disables the location related services as well as the GPS via the gps.conf file and will also make your new spoofing app a priv-system app and it will appear
By now you should have location services aforementioned disabled, gps.conf blank, settings to GPS only with no other location "extras", a systemized gps spoof app. From here i disabled indirect mocking in the spoofing app, make sure System mode IS enabled AGPS-reset isn't needed and being we disabled location services manually, I suppose you could un-check that too but i left it checked
I modified the walk speed to the limits of the game I play, rebooted one more and its a safe idea to double check everything is set correctly
You DO NOT need to add the said mocking app to Developer Mock locations as it is a system app and some spoofer(s) offer that mode after making it an system app
At the end of the day you will now have a GPS Mocking app running where you can set your location and play without ever having the real location ping and rubber-banding you or otherwise messing up the whole concept of spoofing the GPS
As a disclaimer the GPS is a safety feature but some would rather not be tracked so this can technically work this way too
Some may ask well if you are just turning off GPS can't you just turn off the switch in Location Settings, that does not work as GPS technically has to be on for the spoofing app to function. Deleting gps.conf vs making a blank file causes the spoofing app to state the GPS isn't on (even if the on/off switch is toggled under the Phone Settings)
To reverse simply restore the original gps.conf to "/vendor/etc" (You did make a backup? Right)
re-enable the previously disabled location related services
reboot the phone
and if you'd like you can tick the gps and networks, WiFi, Bluetooth scanning and qualcomm IZAT option
or go with just GPS
either case this should enable the real location, I always test with a weather app
If you play Pokemon GO,Adventure Sync doesn't work (while location services disabled/frozen) I suspect because one of the "Location Services" Google Fit Depends on, however being you can walk as much as you want its a mute point, if you want Adventure sync back you have to reverse the process
Anyway this is what I have come up with, it works for me, after its tested by others, I am planning on writing a app that does this all in one shot. For now here is the manual way
Have Fun, Hope it works
If you have any questions or modifications to the post I am open to suggestions
If their is an easier way or something I missed or could Improve on, again comments are welcome
Last thing This technically violates TOS for some games and is increasingly hard to successfully pull off, so try your best to use every tool available to hide both the GPS spoofer and root from said games, don't teleport to far without waiting the proper amount of time before running the game , read up on the walking limits or how the game works if needed to fine tune everything
Just quick question. Do we still need to downgrade google play service boss? Something like 12.6.85 version.
thank u so much i was having this issue for a long time and i was planning to buy a gps jammer just so i can fix this issue , this is worked very well thank u again ^^
Thanks man you're the best!
I'm about to try this guide on my V30 with Oreo... did you ever make the app you mentioned that would do all this automatically??

I just tried a month ago and i never downgraded google services, in fact I read the newer updates to pokemon look for that, my origional instructions stated to disable fuse locations etc, now you don't need to do that just two things, well maby 3, make sure your using magisk and hide root from pokrmon go, under gps locations settings set to use gps only and change the gps.conf file as instructed, if poke gives OS incompstable warnings know that it will browse both your sd and internal card looking for files folders and even some other apps thats known to utalize root, i commented on this to another user on the last page of the thread, also someone else make another guide based on my findings, ive commented there as well, you can also look at reddit as i found at least a partial lidt of things the game looks for, being they update all the time like with anything else its a cat and mouse game, the only reason this works is because were changing a file in android that prevents the gps from working without totally disabling it, doing the latter flags in pokemon, the eevs of the game cant patch this as gps comes from android itself and not a app or utility but it would be just as easy for them to look for a 0 k (size) gps file and if thst matched well then it would be game over for this fix, luckly tho this fix isnt super popular so its stayed under their radar
Hey, Doesn't smali patcher achieve the same outcome with a shorter process?
In reguard to the smali patcher, to be honest I have no idea, ive seen several references to it sinse folks started commenting on my idea, things get developed all the time, i dont recall having that as an option when I wrote all this or id have gone for a quick fix myself, if the patcher somehow disables the gps itself then its likely it works in a similar fashion, as the heart of my fix really depends on the gos file, and of course some spoofing app and root, all id say is try and see, if the patch works and its less leg work for you then go for it, I would, i just didnt have anything else when i wrote the steps out
Great, just what i was searching for!
That is really great, i've spent today searching for a way to deactivate the gps, i have a sony xperia z3c which is used just for pokemon. I found that gps.conf file shortly after i started having a nose around the filesystem. The only think i actually tried so far was disable the location service & the fused locations, after which the GPS joystick (as a system app) seemed to stop functioning. Incidentally, my gps.conf is in > system > etc
So thanks for this info, you have saved me from a lot of messing about.
Just to update, the gps.conf was in 2 location on the xperia z3c, the top etc folder and in system/etc. so did both.
Again the gps joystick would not work after i froze the location service and the fused locations, as it turns out they both have to be present for it to work.
Despite that, it looks to be working ok.
No, a while later it did start doing it again, much less though.
Think ive sorted it now though. using an app called System2, i found the other services that are related to the location service, then froze 4 of them. I also deleted this one file that was somewhere within the in the dev folder in another folder called qmux_gps. it wouldnt let me copy it, but i did manage to delete it (wreckless i know). Since then everything is working great, for about 5 hours so far
