I am trying to use linux on my BA, as shown here http://handhelds.org/moin/moin.cgi/BlueAngelHowtoInstallLinux , i have all of the necessary files and follow all the steps, but when I insert the card my BA asks me if I want to format the card to make it readable. I am using a digital camera as a card reader to put the files on the card.
Any suggestions?
not sure about BA but with wallaby
one used a tool to put the rom on the sd card
after the tool had put the rom on the sdcard even the
sd card reader could not read the card
nor could the pda
unless! it was in bootloader mode in which case it just
auto upgraded from the sd card
could give it a try
What do you mean by 'it auto-upgraded'?
Do have the first partition FAT16 formatted, and the second one ext3?
Yes, yes I do.
got it working, it was just screwy partitioning.
but, PROBLEM! when linux is booting it barks at me 'kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: unable to mount root fs'
all fixed. it was just my screwy partitioning skills. i ended up using gparted instead of mkfs.

OK, so my Desire was working ok, but I decided it was time for a clear out, and a fresh partition of my SD Card, along with a move to Firerat's script for A2SD.
I booted my computer into Ubuntu and made a backup of my SD Card - no problems there. However, I noticed that the EXT partition had not mounted in Ubuntu, so I figured that it must be to do with being booted into Android, and so I booted into Recovery and mounted SD card there - same problem.
It was not until I physically put my SD card into a card reader and inserted it into my laptop, could I access the EXT partition. So I went ahead and copied my EXT partition, no probs.
I then (for some reason) decided to put my SD card back into my phone, mount SD Card in Ubuntu and try and re-partition the SD card in GParted. It kept, however giving me an error message when I tried to partition the card. GParted crashed and would not restart until I re-booted the system. The same thing happened after a reboot.
I had to go into Windows and format the Card as FAT32, and then remove the card from the phone, put it in the card reader, reboot into Ubuntu and then partition the card via GParted.
Now, I have a 6Gb FAT32 partition and a 1GB EXT2 partition on my SD Card and all is (kinda) working swimmingly. Still when I access my SD card (via USB cable, and HTC Desire) in Ubuntu, the EXT partition does not mount (it DEFINITELY used to), and when I view it in GParted it shows the entire disk as "unallocated"?
Is my phone somehow "corrupting" my SD card partition tables? The phone seems to read it ok?
Any ideas would be welcome?
Thanks
Stu

Hi can any one help i tried to install the desire hd rom, the instructions suggested partitioning sd card before installing the rom
which i tried to do using Mini tool partition wizard unfortunetly after wiping partition and the creating new partion my sd card would not mount as i wasnt sure if i should have formated the sd card at this point as that option was still available. but the instructions didnt mention wether i should have formated after creating new partition.
So anyway to cut a long story short i switched the phone of instead, hoping that when i restarted it i would be able to mount the sd card. But now i had a new problem my phone now would not detect my sd card altogether
Does any one know how i can make my sd card detectable again or will i need to fork out for a new sd card
Have you tried it in another device, say a PC card reader?
Had the same issue. Everything worked fine after formatting the SD card with Gparted. What I did wrong is that I made 3 EXT4 partitions for Data2SD and the computer didn't recognize the card. Used Recovery to mount the card and Gparted to repartition it. Everything worked fine afterwards.
yes sort of tried my friends sd card in my desire and it detected it so its definetly the my sd card that faulty
thanks for replying to my message i tried mounting the sd card in recovery using recovery manager but my phone wont mount it as it not detecting the sdcard do you think i might have better luck with gparted and if so do you have a link where i might be abe to down load it.
I was created two partition on SD card 2x2GB and installed Link2SD-1.8.0
Set Link2SD-1.8.0 to use another partition for data, to save space.
After that, I realized, I dont need 2GB for app, I need 800MB.
OK, then I delete Link2SD-1.8.0.
And on PC with MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition, delete all partition and create 1st 3gb and 2nd 800mb. I format all partiton as FAT32.
After that Desire wont read my SD card!
I trying create one partion FAT, FAT32, Unformated... and phone dont read my card.
When I go to Recovery and mount USB, Windows read my SD card, but when trying with Desire mount sd card, he saying card cannot mount...
IMPORTANT PART
I trying another card (from nokia N73) and Desire read it.
If I use Desire SD card to N73, nokia says no SD card.
If I return back N73 card to N73, nokia says no SD card!!!?
If I return again to Andoid, then works, but in nokia no longer!
P.S
I dont have card reader...
From what I gathered from your post you made a mistake which causes the problems you described - you made all partitions FAT32... You should only make the first partition primary and FAT32 and the secondary should be EXT(2,3,4 - variant by your preference)... I'm not familiar with that MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition you used but I suspect that it won't do everything you need.... I recommend you reformat your sdcard with sdformatter or gparted (preferably because of alignment ability)... Probably after being formatted in gparted to a single primary partition you will get access to the card. If everything goes well then I'd repartition sdcard to link2sd needs in gparted or in the recovery itself (it probably won't make aligned partitions but to hell with that, they'll work )...
If you are not familiar with gparted search through xda since there are several good tutorials about using it... I use it regularly, i install it to a flash drive (through USBInstaller or Yumi or whatever tool you find) and boot to it, although you can burn it to a bootable cd/dvd just as well...
Hope any of this helped...
I used gparted and now is working! Thanx!
Great thing is gparted!
Hi guys. I partitioned my sd card with mini tool partition wizard in 2 partition: 6gb in fat32 and 2gb in ext2. When i install sd card on the phone, it says that the card is empty or file system is not supported. I tried to format the card via cwm but it says "error mounting sd card".
I have stock 2.3.3 rom, unlocked bootloader, root and custom kernel lupus 1.1.4
What can i do??????????
Thanks!!!!
I would probably format in mini tool again all to fat32 put a couple of files on it in windows (Just to know that you have got something on the card) try again see if phone recognizes it if it does repartition again with mini tool:fingers-crossed:

Yes but to partition the card i have to delete all the files on it, so try to get in the card a couple of files in windows is not pointless aswell?

No what i mean is after you have format card to fat 32 put a couple of files you don't need on the card to see if your phone recognizes them not before you partition. Then if that works and you phone does recognize card and files you can then repartition, don't partition until your phone recognizers your card. :fingers-crossed:If that still not working you can download software to test your card to see if any faults on it.
My device is rooted, s-off and I flashed WildChild 3.3 some days ago.
Problem is my phone suddenly doesn't see my SD card at all. Camera says "Insert SD card", Root Explorer "SD card not found", Link2SD "SD card not present". Even in CWM trying to mount SD card gives back error.
When connected to my PC with a card reader (my card reader doesn't have any switch) in MiniTool Partition Wizard, it mounts as read only. So I just see the contents of the FAT32 partition, I can't perform format. Could it be fried?
I tried another SD card on my phone and it mounted normally, whereas my SD card had exact the same problem on a Galaxy Europa (not mounting at all).
It is a Verbatim 8GB class 4 and it came with no adaptor. It worked fine until now, it also worked the first days with the new ROM (3 partitions, FAT32, ext2, linux swap). I don't have a clue how it became read-only...
Any ideas?
Most likely corrupted. Seeing that your other card works, its a high possibility that its gone corrupt.
Buy a new one or use the other.

I am going for a new micro SD card. Damn, I would prefer spending my money otherwise...
You can try Hp Formatting Tool, it worked for me everytime. It's like a handy charm. :")
