looking for a few cabs - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam ROM Development

One of the official AT&T roms had some bloat in it, but I liked one or two of the items. It was the app that could listen to music and tell you the artist and title. Does anyone have that or could make that as a cab?

Ummm, you mean, like Windows Media Player? If so, you should be able to find it around here some place. Look around. Maybe DeStefano's cab collection thread will have what you're looking for.
-pvs

No, he means a program that identifies what song is playing by "listening" to it.
like:
http://www.wireless.att.com/learn/musicid.jsp
http://products.vzw.com/index.aspx?id=news_going_details&appId=5768

You are right Cerixus. Now does anyone have that app or a cab of it?

I have it.. its called MusicID as stated in the links in the previous post.. here you go.

Thanks for uploading that. For anyone else trying it, it seems you have to install it to main memory, not a storage card.

This App is great and I was always missing it. Works better than TRACK-ID on Sony mobiles! Thanks!

It uses a service called Shazam, I believe and in the UK, you can dial a number and let it listen to the song and it should text you back with the name of it...no app is needed. Possibly also true in the US.
Smiffy.

Apologies for my ignorance, but I know Shazam charges. Does this cab do the same thing for free, or is there a charge (data connection, phone call, one-off through bill, etc).
Sorry - am at work at the moment so cannot download or try in the phone and too impatient to wait til I get home to find out!

Stu, its free..

Free, you say? I'll take 2!!
Thanks - now just need to get home to try it....

Uhm, I'm prety sure you have to pay for it. All you get is a trial period.

Not to blow any whisles, but I sniffed through the cab and found:
parm -> name -> AppName -> value -> Cingular Shazaa Crack by 100565 MusicID
I'm no angel, but the reference "Crack" typically has referred to bypassing the licensing requirements...

Probably the same idea as getting the ATT XM and HBO MobiTV trial unlimited crack. Which that thread went on and on and on and on and on about the integrity of the "work around"

Does anyone know how to install this? I am kind of new to this kind of phone

When I try to put this on my fuze, the install shows a opera logo. When I try to execute it takes me to opera browser and does nothing after that. Any suggestions?

I find it ridiculously that we have to pay monthly for XM Radio on our phones, even if we already have a XM Radio subscription, so I tried to find a way around it. It did not take much and I am sure others might know about this trick, but I never saw it explained on the forum. So here it is...
Using Custle's Cingular Applications Cab (Properly Working Cingular Video) I was able to find a simple way to keep reseting the free trial period.
Admin edit: all links and guide removed as this is considered warez and we received a legal complaint form the software owner.
Wow. Just tried it. thats a pretty good observation. Thanks.
I was wondering why no one ever did something about hacking these two programs.
Now if only it could be done with Pocket Express..........(......sigh.......)

Deleting the following files in the following directories resets the three day trial period for XM Radio.
\Program Files\XM Radio\vars.chunk
\Program Files\XM Radio\XMRadio.skn
Deleting the following files in the following directories resets the one day trial period for MobiTV.
\Program Files\MobiTv\vars.chunk
\Program Files\MobiTv\MobiTV.skn
These files are created the first time you start the programs. Once deleted, the program creates them again the very next time it is started and the trial period starts over again.
Now I am not very computer savvy, but if someone were to create a little program that would delete these files automatically, with a cab that could be accessed from the program menu, it would make it a zero hassle affair.

I created a little program with mortscript that will delete all these files when you run it. Just put it in the startup folder and it will automatically delete the files upon soft reset.
You have to have mortscript installed to be able to run it.
Note: my files are on the storage card. Change the directory to program files in main memory if needed.
delete ("\Storage Card\Program Files\XM Radio\vars.chunk")
delete ("\Storage Card\Program Files\XM Radio\XMRadio.skn")
delete ("\Storage Card\Program Files\MobiTv\vars.chunk")
delete ("\Storage Card\Program Files\MobiTv\MobiTV.skn")
Copy the text to a text document and change the extension ".txt" to ".mortrun"

If you have xm, you can stream it (for free) via the website: www.musicdock.com and you get almost all the channels. You have to set up you XM account for internet access.
I am paying for XM and stream using:
http://www.xstreamxm.com/mobile/
Is there a list of channels somewhere so I can what ones are available via the Cingular App? If it's the same as using xstreamxm or musicdock, will continue to stream via these two sites.

I think we do understand it. We were providing a legal way to have fair use access to a service some of us pay for...lokmeup wanted a non ridiculously way to get his XM, and we gave him one (and a legal one at that).
If you don't have XM already then use this work around. If you have XM, the musicdock/streaming XM is better.
Channel line up from XM on mobile device.
Mods,
Does this fall under the "No Warez" policy here on XDA-Devs?
This can't really be considered "warez" since nobody is supplying illegal software, however, one could make the argument that it's similar to a crack... it wouldn't hold up, but one could still make that argument.
There had to be someone who wants to ruin the fun. Man be glad that someone found a work around. The wm6 roms arent even suppose to be downloadable and workable with. But people are still cooking the roms. So lets all be happy and enjoy all this good stuff that keeps coming to us. :-D

HTC Homeplug Weather fix - get your LOCAL weather! [New universal patch uploaded!]

THIS SERVER HAS NOW BEEN DEACTIVATED - See below / my final post
WARNING! The old IP-based/Pocket Hosts method using my server HAS BEEN DEACTIVATED, as I have had to remove the code in question from the direct IP. This means that selecting the custom weather server purely via the HTC home customizing utilities without installing a patched version of the HTC Home DLL, it WILL NOT WORK and you will just get "unable to retrieve data" messages. If this is the case, please uninstall your existing HTC Home plugin, and use one of the ones off the download page.
You can, if necessary, set up your own IP address to base it on, if you can't use my system for some reason, and use the pocket host method that way (requires your own server). Otherwise, please use the cabs below.
NEW! UNIVERSAL PATCH PACKAGE
I've written a universal patcher, so people can now get the HTC Home package they want, and just patch the HTCHome.dll from \WINDOWS. Simply get the package, unzip, drop your HTCHome.dll file in the N2A-Patcher folder, and run the n2a-patcher script inside. It'll magically create you a package! (This won't work for DLLs which people have already patched, you need to use the unmodified original.) This should negate the need for me to create individual packages anymore. Feedback welcome! As a result, I won't be releasing any more complete packages - just install your personal favorite, get the \WINDOWS\HTCHome.dll from your device, drop it in the packager, and let it do it's magic, then install the newly created cab.
Coming soon, if I can figure it out - drop the installer in, and get a patched full installer out! Of course, I have to figure out how to batch extract the cabfile correctly first... *laughs*
I've also just created a DLL to CAB packager (so you can drop your own pre-patched DLL in, and it'll turn it into a ready-to-install cabfile), and a DLL patcher (which just patches the DLL itself, ready for cooking etc - perfect for all you flashers out there!) - all on the download page.
PLEASE DON'T PM ME ABOUT THIS - KEEP IT TO THE THREAD UNLESS I SPECIFICALLY REQUEST A PM OR PM YOU!
Help Request
If anyone has an unpatched Sprint Touch XML file, I could do with a backup copy, for those who corrupt their XML files...
If you've got a Touch, Kaiser/TyTN II or Sprint Touch...
There are specific device DLL replacement packages on the new file download page.
NEW DOWNLOAD AND INSTRUCTION SITE
I've moved all the downloads and instructions to a new page, which will hopefully make it clearer on what people need to download. It also contains full instructions on hexediting the DLL if you wish, and re-signing. I'm not entirely sure if it's more readable or not, but it's certainly more manageable! Feedback welcome. There's some specific overlays now for certain versions of the ROMs too.
FAQ:
Can I install colour customisations to this?
Sure. Take a look around the forum. There's plenty of guides elsewhere.
What does this do?
It reroutes the request to the AccuWeather server to my server instead, which then requests the appropriate data from the AccuWeather server, and translates it into the HTC Weather XML format.
Can I run this via my own server?
Yup. It's running on mine via PHP 5.2.x, using the SimpleXML extension. The code is downloadable from the main download page, and I've even commented it. Once you get it running, you'll need to hexedit the HTCHome.dll file in the same way as described for the ROM chefs. I'd recommend keeping the same length of file for replacement - using directories to pad it out if necessary - it could cause unpredictable results otherwise.
Do I need to run my own server to get my local weather?
Nope, feel free to use mine.
Your server isn't working!
Oops. It's a rarity, but occasionally network outages happen. The server won't be disappearing anytime soon though without any warning! I'm sorry to say that I'll be taking the server down for this shortly as I'm wrapping up my web hosting business and transferring it to another company, but quite a few other people seem to have hosted a copy if people still need it. I hope it's been of use over the years everyone!
Why have you done this?
It was really annoying me that I could only get the weather for a city 25 miles away, that had nothing to do with mine.
Can you make me an XML file for such-a-place?
No, I've done enough already, and it's documented fairly heavily above. If you can't follow instructions, give up and stop trying to hack your phone. I'm not here to hold your hand. I'll help fix bugs and obvious issues, but if you can't edit a textfile, you're on your own.
Release Notes
I've stripped most local data from the return info apart from the town/city and country, but the HTC plugin seems to ignore that anyway. Works for all international locations I've tested. I welcome feedback on anything that's not working though, and I'll try to get it nailed pretty quickly. As said above, also works on zip codes, which will make it easier for our US friends on here.
New release fixes countries that weren't in the list, by removing the country checks altogether - I'm confident it'll "just work" - in theory Report bugs in the usual way.
Known Issues
The WM5 version will NOT update over GPRS/3G, unless you are using an AKU3.3 ROM. WM5 Weather update over GPRS has been proven with Wizard AKU3.3 (like the T-Mobile or WM5SEr5). Other devices/ROM's still to be confirmed.
The temperature in Farhenheit can occasionally be a degree or two out, as I convert from the Celsius scale. To get both readings would mean two calls to the server, which would be more work and bandwidth for my server. I'm sure you can live with a degree out occasionally.
Kudos
Thanks PAPPL for the info on signing files, Schen for his great work on the plugin, and to all those who contributed to getting these plugins (and getting them working!) in the first place!
Enjoy!
As I've taken the server down, I've attached all the relevant files to this post. If someone does want to provide somewhere to point the weather.not2advanced.com domain to, I still own the domain and can add the appropriate A address to it for the purpose if they want to continue hosting for the many users that still seem to be using this plugin. Sorry I had to take it down, but I no longer run the hosting operation this was being held on, and it can be a bit heavy on resources at times.
- Rick
Wow, sounds like a lot of work went into this.
Do you think it would be possible, using this framework, to pull data from the NWS website instead of Accuweather?
Theroetically, I could, providing they set up an appropriate XML feed. However, I can only do one such setup per IP address (and the IP addresses I have are somewhat limited), but if someone wanted to set it up, I've no doubt it'd be possible. However, it wouldn't be trivial - I've had to manually grab bits of data from the XML and process it into the format the home plugin expects. As a UK resident, the NWS isn't huge amounts of use to me
On a more technical note though, it'd require a similar format - at least 5 days in advance for a particular area, and the exact parameters (or something that can be adjusted / mangled / processed into the exact parameters) that the plugin needs. (Take a look at the code in the zipfile if you want to see how much of a pain in the neck THAT was!) Adapting it would also need a complete conversion matrix, or a hacky method using (say) the RSS feed ID for the BBC, or however the NWS does it.
Will this work for cingular/att customer?
If it works already for the major cities, then it'll work the same way, but with more localised weather available.
If you're having trouble with the normal weather plugin setup though, you may still have trouble. Then again, it might work! I've no idea. Try it and find out

HTC Homeplug Weather
Hello,
Thanks for sharing your great work. (I am french so sorry for my poor english)
However, I working on HTC Homeplug Weather because it wont let me download weather forecast when I am using 3G connection.
It works great when I an using wifi connection so I think it is coming from the proxy of vodaphone France (SFR) wich is blocking the access. So I was wondering if I will be able to connect to your server ? (for the moment it is not working) or redirecting the plugin to my tunnel...
Second is there a way to be sure that htc weather plugin is trying to connect to htc.accuweather.com and not to another web site.
Thanks in advance
A french guy wich is also living in a small city and wishto have his weather forecast ;-)

Well, if it's the HTC accuweather site specifically blocked, then it will help you. If it's generically blocking sites, then it won't.
Re a tunnel - depends what you mean by it.
The HTC home plugin *always* tries to connect to htc.accuweather.com - hence the host file change, which diverts it to my server instead, which provides the correct data. (NO LONGER APPLIES WITH NEW PLUGINS!)
However, if it's still not working with the hosts file modification (may require soft reset, not sure!), then I'm afraid there's not a lot I can do, unless you can tunnel it as you said, but it depends on what you're using to tunnel.

Reload pocket hosts - it should look something like the attached thumbnail. If it does, try a soft reset. However, if it's still refusing point blank, it's highly possible you're going via a proxy, and that is handling the DNS lookups. To bypass that will require a hack to the HTC plugin itself. I can set it up server side for it (which was going to be my initial approach!), but it'll need an appropriate hostname hacking into the binary. I'll see what I can do on that score tomorrow, both on the home plugin front and the server-side setup.

I suggest using Total Commander - you can remove the read-only flag from there, and even edit it inside it. Works beautifully.

I'm assuming that's after you've gone to the file properties. You should be able to unclick "Read-only" and "System" on it.
There's quite a bit of information on doing this scattered around the forums. Is it cooked into your ROM? (It'll have a tickbox by the "In ROM" box if that's the case.) But you want to clear the Read Only and System attributes from the file properties if you can, THEN edit it.

Pandora on Windows Mobile

Anyone with an iPhone want to hack the Pandora application and see if we can get a version working on Windows Mobile?
You cant just take something from the iphone and port it to window mobile. I have been waiting forever for Pandora on my WM phone, but now I have it on my iPod......so I wouldn't hold out any hope that they will come out with something.
Yeah, I know - what I was hoping is that someone with the application could help us figure out the streaming protocol it uses, and then we could write a WM app to do the same thing. Maybe this is too difficult.
Sounds like a great idea. If it works over wifi the network traffic can be observed etc.

Huh? What does that have to do with the original question?
I wish. I love pandora but I can't have it on my phone. One real thing I am jealous about.
i've heard it works with the skyfire browser...but I'm getting the feeling I will never get into that beta. Isn't there a AT&T pandora program? I believe it's a pay to use feature however.
Maybe we should get in contact with the guy who made the standalone windows pandora app, seems it would be much easier to "port" that than an iphone app...which was a terrible suggestion by the way
Skyfire does not work- I have it.
I did email pandora just a couple of weeks ago and they have no plans to support the PPC
Have searched for the ATT install cab but no luck.
I FOUND THIS
i think it already works on some sprint phones as ic on this blod

There's a Last.FM for Windows Mobile that someone made, it's similar to Pandora. A quick search should turn it up/

Well it seems after 3 hours of reading code and downloading every external javascript file, and decompiling the flash files, it turns out that Pandora has an API that isnt being released in wide array. And to my dismay, after 3hours, and not knowing enough of the AS language, i chose to wait until the Pandora APIv2 is publicly release (it has been release to a very few 3rd party companies - yahoo is one for example) to revisit pandora for wm.

At the risk of sounding dumb, here are my half assembled thoughts lacking necessary sleep...
I know Alltel runs BREW, though I'm not sure about Sprint and ATT (not likely). ATT has more than just the iPhone running Pandora, and I'd assume that these phones are all running the program in Java. Otherwise the devs must like doing more work than necessary, or Pandora is trying to find a way to lock this down and make some money.
Is it possible to pull the program off a phone and run it on a WinMo JavaVM?

My thoughts exactly. Does someone have a RAZR, or another supported AT&T phone, who can visit the URL Pandora sends you?
(which is http:///www.pandora.com/att?)
It seems like Pandora might be a java app. If that's he case, it could easily be pulled from the phone's filesystem, once the "right" phone visited the website and downloaded the app. I'd try it myself with my old RAZR, but my wife nagged me when I upgraded and I threw it away.
EDIT: Yeah, I tried it also. It seems like the stock WinMo 6.1. JVM doesn't support some DRM-related features, so the midlet won't run.
I have the Razr V9M (My old phone). I can see if I can get the file(s). Someone needs to walk me thru which files you need and how to get them. If you want to compare files. If anyone is still trying to get this to work...
Pandora on my phone would rock.

Did anybody else attempt to put Pandora in a .cab file besides Zeezee? Looking forward to find out if someone can do it for the WM6 and upload it somewhere.

Looking for Opinions

I'm trying to paste some .brn files to remove the provider branding of my touch. I apologize in advance if this has been discussed elsewhere, I just couldn't find it. I recently moved to the touch from a g4 wizard because of provider pricing changes, it made more sense to finally move to a phone with a data plan. My poor wizard...anyway, I'm unable to paste files like I could with my wizard. I would just open the windows folder and paste via the activesync connection, but now I get an access is denied error. I think what I did on my wizard was enable rapi and unsigned apps, is there something that will allow me to do this?
I don't like the rom that's on their right now, it's much slow than my wizard's clean rom, I want to access sprint tv and what not, but don't want it on my cube. I'm also looking for a way to add side swipe gestures, like if I use a left right gesture on today screen I want htc action to come up, and right left should be icontact...is their a way to do this without installing ftouchflo...? Please give me some guidance. I've bricked a wizard, ya baby, but after that I learned to read so I didn't do it again, so if I have to flash I will, but I don't want to void warranties or anything...

No, it would be cool to change the carrier name though. I'm referencing all the carriers customization to my phone. For instance on my cube, my mediahub side has three options Sprint Music /Sprint Tv /On Demand. The sprint music launches an application where you can pay for and download music, the tv(doesn't work) but is supposed to open an application that I can watch mobile tv on, and the On demand brings me to a third party app(I think) that has option for weather and getting directions. I don't want any of these, I want my music button to open the htc audio manager, the sprint tv should open my pictures and the on demand should open my videos...plus I want to change the button pictures on the face of the cube itself. I'm not going to talk about how much I don't like the 6 app side. It's fine for a normal user of the phone I'm sure, but if I want to go to the sprint applications, I will set up my own links or access them through the programs folder...Ya know...?
My opinion is to completely remove the cube, you'll eventually see that changing the cube is just a simple skinning process. Bu, if you need to, you need to make .bmp files and convert them to .brn, search for the BMP/BRN Converter, it's a very simple app to make the conversion, search here for it. Or, check my Tips thread on how to remove it, and add a different cube.

Program to make websites into cabs?

is there a program out there to make a favorite/bookmark into a cab file so it will install as a .ink or program file? my whole idea is to make a bunch for things like fedex/ups tracking, store locators, and random rss feeds and some random websites for easy access. i want to make a folder in my start menu for these and iconize them to look like apps. thanks in advance. i am 100% willing to share my work if i can get the program and i am willing to take on custom orders.
Something like this i found long ago
The only ways I know of are either making a Widget or Making an exe that browses the site like I believe that starbucks one is. I did something similar for YouMail In visual studio.

the starbucks.cab actually creates an .ink file that when launched, directs you to the store locator page on their site. i downloaded it probably 2 years ago and i forgot from where. it is exactly what i am looking to create. i dont want to make wigets because they take up alot more space than an .ink file. as you can see, this cab is a measly 12k and wigets can be 100k+.
I opened the cab in WinCe Cab Manager and it has an exe in it and also a shortcut its not hard to make one of these the exe is still very small mine for you mail is 22kb and it has a few feautures but it just gets the job done.
ive never used visual studio in my life, but i learn new software very quickly. let me know which version of visual studio i should use for wm6.5 wvga and i will get it crackin and pump out exes all weekend
btw with everyone looking at this thread, leave comments on which sites you would like me to create, like i said i got all weekend to work on this...
visual studio 2008 you kinda have to know a lil visual basic or some programming language you can now add 6.5 and 6.5.3 sdk's to visual studio.
cool im bout to start working on it now. thanks!
just downloaded vs 08. im reading all kind of tutorials ive found about it to make exes. lets see how long it will take me to figure this out
Are we talking like IE or Opera or something else?
Because for IE it's easy, you have Windows\Favorites and file name is what ie uses for name and inside is like
[InternetShortcut]
URL=ht+tp://something/
without the + of course

ok im stuck, please someone help if you can. i looked for a wm template for vsb8 to make exes and i cant find one, so i basically reverse engineered the starbucks app i uploaded to see if i can just switch out the site and icon and i cant. credit and appreciation is granted to anyone who helps out!
{SBR}_L3GION, thanks for the jumpstart on this. unfortunatly after 5 days of trying to get a template for wince exes, i had no luck. like i said before, i dont know a damn thing about vsb8 and i tried to learn and failed, so i am ceasing production with these. it was good while it lasted. again thanks.
for an easier approach, try using link creator from freewarepcoketpc.net. paired with an icon changer. you can grab any favorite you have saved and make a link to it in the start menu, then use icon changer to make a high def. icon. use iconpedia, they have awesome icons for free!

I don't really understand why you want an .exe, when a simple .lnk file will work just fine.
