The JbedJava_20070622_2_1 (Java Midlet Manager) usually included in most WM6 ROMS (Schaps, D-Lite, TNT 2.0... etc.) no longer works starting Sept 1, 2007. Is this some kind of trial version? This is an excellent java manager which I use solely for Opera Mini Beta (Best web browser I've seen so far.. a definite iPhone killer ).
Is there a known fix for this other than resetting the date/time settings everytime I want to use it?
Thanks!
I noticed that same problem was reported here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1480564

perhaps there is some way to use MortScript to automate the date changing? Even if that would work, it'd be frustrating if one needs to check the date while using Opera Mini...
I hate to hijack this thread a little but I've had trouble uninstalling an older version of the Tao IntentMM, and thus, can't install a new version. version 11.1.7.1034 allows things to be installed, but they always end up with the standard "lightbulb" icon, then whenever I try to run the app, it reads "Failed to run the MIDlet". Then when I try to uninstall it, it reads "Failed to uninstall". Is this a known issue? If so, is there a fix?
use the Tao one instead? Seems fine to me running opera min beta

Really? I tried Tao before but it freezes once in a while with Opera Mini Beta. I'll try it again and see what happens.

yeah opera now has beta 2 for the opera mini 4 and so far its alot more stable now!
The Tao Midlet manager sucks..
I prefer running Opera Mini on fullscreen, and you can't do it on Tao. Jbed does it a lot better. It works smoother too..

You are a lifesaver. Now I can use Opera Mini again! Yay!
Unfortunately, it's an old version and very unstable and NOT fullscreen.
EDIT: Spoke too soon.. it has too many problems.. the dragging doesn't even work. This is not really a solution.

Here's where I get to show my stupidity!
All the other ROM I have flashed have come with a utility to run the process. I tried replacing a previous rar file with this one and running the utility I had, but it changed nothing. I have read all the guides, the step by steps, etc, but the info seems to be for full packetsm not how to insert a new rar. I am dense. I am uneducated, I am sorry!
Thanks Shodowmite. It's good to have someone taking care of us ATT dudes.
What is the difference with other ROM ?
Is there something specific for AT&T ?
Sorry if the question is stupid, but I don't know AT&T particularities... ;-)

ok, have you flashed hard-spl on your phone before? If not, search for it and flash it! Next, you need winrar or some other file extraction program to extract the rar file (a compressed folder) to get the files out. Then you'll find the installer files inside, you run the exe... Hope this helps.

Mainly the big thing is this includes by default the sms/mms and data/proxy settings for cingular/att's network. You can use this rom with another carrier, but you'll need to delete those settings or install you own over top of them.

We all have to learn at some point, I was no better when I started long ago... Don't worry about it and just learn at your own pace... Hope you like the rom!
I've updated to Shadowmite 1.1, while this is still a "beta" if you will, it's perfectly stable and appears good. Use this one if you want the HTC Home Plugin available... I've also removed windows live and streaming media in this version:
http://rapidshare.com/files/43857196/Shadowmite_1.1_beta_0.rar.html
Thanks. Good job. Downloading.
Ive had it running for a few days now and have noticed marked improvement on battery life. My only challenge has been running out of program memory during IE sessions. I run MemMaid and clean up, then I can go again, but I'm wondering if I have something set wrong.
Hmm, not sure, but I will be releasing another version maybe tomorrow with a increased available program memory using a 4mb pagepool instead of the stock 6mb.
Slightly off topic but is there a way / application to load apps & information in one go after flashing a new rom or is installing all the cabs one by one the only way.
Thanks in advance
S
Well, dunno if it helps much, but my HTCustom app, which is in my roms has a CABS button which allows you to choose a folder and it starts all cabs in it to be installed for you... but it needs human interaction.
In other news, the rom is ready and uploading now...
Version 1.1 is posted, now with 4mb pagepool, should increase your program memory a little and make it perform a little more quickly. I think this is about perfect now, let me know!
Nice ROM, but...

Hi, A very nice looking ROM - for which... thanks!
BUT... I keep getting... "An unhandled error has occured in the shell. Attempting to restart the shell [ok]". Soon as I hit the OK, phone reboots.
Now, to help u diagnose... I have installed NOTHING on top of your ROM. Only change I made from stock is I removed your Cingular settings .cab and installed the standard HTC ones for my UK Vodaphone network. (Actually, I was getting this error BEFORE I even removed the Cingular .cab)
Only other thing I can say is, I also unchecked the BatteryStatus plugin from the Today items (as I don't like it or need it... or do I, with this ROM? Maybe I will re-enable it a while...)
That's all. I'll try and stick with this ROM as it's the kind of thing I've been working on for myself... nice, clean and tight... but I've had no time recently to develop ROMs so it's easier for me to run with your work and let you do the head scratching!! Still, a nice effort so far - thanks again!
Moz.
Weird, I've never seen that error. I hate to say it, but could you start with the rom freshly flashed and tell me anything I can do to cause this to occur? Or is it random? I do run the battery status plugin on mine (very useful info, especially the current draw) but I've just removed it to see if I can get the error.
Let me know if you have any procedure I can try to get this error.
Also, you removed the cing.cab and then installed yours and ran it? That should be fine as the only cingular branding is that cab being ran after the welcome.
Fixed it... I think!
Ok, so it seems to be your 1.51 version of the HTC X-Button task manager. I always set the "End progs by tapping X" (not the default tap-and-hold option..) The previously mentioned error only ever happens when I'm tapping X to close down something or other... So, I installed my own .cab of this app (v1.5 build 29196) and all is now fine!
I'll probably do a fresh flash of your Rom tomorrow (its 2am now here) just to be sure, but I think I'm right in saying that your implementation of the x-button app in rom does not give the x-button icon in /start/settings/system... (i now have this by virtue of my reinstalling the app...) I think this icon *is* needed because if you choose to turn off the x-button "shortcut" thingy in the today screen there would otherwise be no way to get back to the x-button option settings.
Hope this helps...
Moz.
a-ha, I got the error now myself, but only if set to close app on clicking the X and furthermore then closing a system app that is running from shell32.exe. For some reason my entries of immune apps aren't being taken as immune. I'll look into this. Good catch!
The program however is in settings, system and is listed as task manager...
Ok, here is the fix, just install this cab (reg entries only) and it'll be working after the next soft reset... I'll figure out why this didn't work from the main hive before the next release.

You need to have java installed (Jbed or Esmertec) then the jad file will open, and install opera mini. Do that, then goto www.operamini.com in pocket IE.
thank you for the help
quick question, is Jbed free software, or do i pay for it? the reason i ask is because on my brothers wing, i rom that he download cam pre installed with opera mini, and im having a bit of trouble finding a link to download, i get things like single user liscence and what not, which i may be wrong but i dont belieave is right
Here you go. Install this, and then double click on the .jad file. It will install. Then to run opera, just click on the java icon in programs and choose "opera"

I run it with esmertec jbed and have tweaked it to open with one click without the confirmation messages. Operamini rox....but the new NetFront is even more powerful!
FYI. Checkout this excellent thread regarding Opera Mini. If you use Mort Script, you can make Opera Mini function like the default browser, i.e. open links from emails, etc. I posed my own script (based on Menneisyys's - Thanks!), which works great on my Hermes running WM6.0 and jmm.exe (TAO).

Mini Opera 4.0.10222 English International version.
Download both files to your PC, transfer to your Pocket PC, place in one folder, then tap on the JAD file. That's it.
Here you can download various languages.

Hello everybody,
I've figured a few things out regarding JBed and Opera Mini on Kavana's latest WM6.1 ROM, and I thought I'd share them with you.
Introduction
First off, a quick introduction: Opera Mini 4, a Java MIDlet web browser, is arguably the best browser available for Windows Mobile. It routes traffic through Opera servers, so it doesn't take as much data (or time) to browse the Web, and it has small-screen rendering like iPhone's. Slashdot, for example, loads in seconds under OM, as opposed to half an hour in Pocket IE. Esmertec JBed respects the system's network settings, so it works with the T-Zones $5.99 internet trick.
JBed isn't perfect, though. It has a few glaring issues: network access permissions, inability to use a MIDlet as a systemwide default browser, and ugly fonts. I haven't figured out the last one yet, but the first two are solvable, and here's how.
Network Access Permissions
Most tutorials for fixing this problem refer to the file \Windows\AppDB\Selector.utf; editing this file and replacing the text
Code:
domain=untrusted, \
with
Code:
domain=tckmax , \
fixes the problem under Cloudyfa's JBed. The version of JBed in Kavana's WM6.1 stores its data in \Application Data\JavaDB, and the selector.utf trick doesn't work. The culprit is a missing file named policy.utf, which defines tckmax. I've attached a copy of this file; just move it to your \Application Data\JavaDB directory and the selector.utf trick will work as usual.
Systemwide Default Browser
First off, you can make it easier to access Opera Mini by changing the short_IE.lnk file to open OM instead of PIE. I've attached a version of that file for your convenience; copy it to your \Windows directory and the IE (or T-Zones) button will open a usable browser for a change. This only works if OM is the first MIDlet you've installed; if you have installed other MIDlets you'll have to edit the shortcut (Notepad works nicely) to reflect the change. If OM is your second MIDlet, change s0_ to s1_; third, s2_; and so on.
Also, various MortScript scripts have been floating around that attempt to automate the process of copying a clicked link to the system clipboard, opening OM, and pasting the link into the address bar. I haven't found one that works, but a much better solution is available. The linked post contains a CAB file (which I've reposted here for convenience) that installs an actual application that works well under WM6.1. This one is hardcoded with the assumption that Opera Mini is the first MIDlet that you've installed.
One Other Thing
I recommend backing up your \Application Data\JavaDB directory once you get everything working; you can simply copy it back from your backup after a cold boot to get everything working again. I don't know how to make a CAB file myself, but if someone is up to the challenge, I'd suggest making a single file that installs Opera Mini and the Opera Mini Default Browser application, and optionally replaces the PIE button with OM. Or maybe Kavana can add this to his next ROM
Hope you find this useful!
EDIT: The application I've attached only works if Opera Mini is the first application ever installed under JBed. If you uninstall it and reinstall it, it will get a new suite number. You can look at your selector.utf file and figure out your suite number (e.g., s1_), but I would recommend clearing out your \Application Data\JavaDB folder to reset your suite numbers. Also, it may be a bad idea to edit your selector.utf file in Notepad; a hex editor should avoid corruption issues.
~truggl
awesome! thanks!
very useful, thanks!
Great Job!!
How do you tell what the s number is for the OM midlet?
When I press the short key cut key I get a "Could not find suite s0_" error message. When I dismiss the message I get the jbed midlet manager window which list Opera Mini and it's the only applet listed. I click on that and Opera Mini opens up.
Perfect, the policy.utf file did the trick. I'm not so sure that I want to replace the iexplore shortcut to OM because there are still some limits to the OM applet over PIE. OM can't launch youtube for example.
Thank you ... thank you - Tim

Yes, it will depend on how many java programs you installed before so that you can get an accurate count.

Opera is the only java app that I have installed and I still get the error, however, I have installed and uninstalled a few times... so I think there may be .db remnants that force it further down the "install list" e.g. s2_
edit: just had to clean up \\application data\javaDB, works fine
Hi all,
Glad I was able to help. I added a bit of information to my original post; I recommend starting with a blank slate, so to speak, because OperaDefault.cab is programmed with that assumption. When in doubt about your suite number, and if you don't care about OperaDefault, then you can look in (or post) your selector.utf file and get it from there.

Esmertec jbed
Can someone point me to forum where i can get esmertec jbed?
I'm looking for a couple of hours already.
Please help....
Having a very strange problem with Opera Mini 4. I'm using Ricky's Rom V5 with my Dash and Opera will not display fonts correctly. They all seem to have horizontal lines going through them and appear to be slightly stretched (that could be my imagination though). I checked the Jbed version and it appears to be the latest one (I never changed it) and I'm not sure where to go from here. Opera boots and runs fast but it's not legible at all. Any suggestions as to what I can try? I searched XDA but couldn't come up with anything. Thanks,

NOT TRUE.
I tried to use from s0_ to s4_, nothing worked....
Untill i opened my selector.utf(windows\appdb) and seen that gMail is "root=s-1_", so i've change my shortcut to point to "s-1_", this did the trick.
Thanx.
any way to get this to show up in the start menu rather than opening it up in the java progran?
Yes here ya go attached place the .dll in Windows and the .lnk in Windows\Start Menu soft-reset.

when you add this to your phone, when you click on it, does it show the java opening up and you have to then launch opera mini from within the java like usual? or when you click on the shortcut, does it open java and launches opera mini by itself?

Cool, I've been using opera mini for a while now and I think you gave me the shortcut file before, don't remember , I have opera mini in my links panel and the only thing I hate is having to click on it , open java and then launch opera manually.
Another question, when you're exit opera mini, does it exit java also?

Yep Java isn't realy open as you will see when running any app, java closes when app launched
To all: I have ammended so as there is s0 - s4 in the attachment if Opera Mini was the first install of a Java app then it will be that if not then try the others.
it opens opera up by itself now when i clic it the icon also changed to a fancy opera one and im gettin the s0 error in java

Check last post it's because Opera Mini was not your first Java app installed

Thanks to Ricky too as this is from RoseRom.
Yes ricky thank you too.. man i cant believe how cool my S621 is now i swear its a different 6.1 Kavana S621 now Dunka... my good programmers
I got the error for the s0, and I was wondering why since opera mini is the one and only thing I have in java, and you said if it was the first that you shouldn't get the error, and then I remember, that I had a previous unsigned version of opera mini, and I had replaced it with a signed version, so I just switched to the s1 shortcut , edited my panel, and now it works perfect. Thanks again Stylez..

Hi there
Am I getting confused or missing something? The Task Manager that I could access under Manila 2.1 via the 'X' or Down Arrow in the top right hand corner of the task bar when I was running multiple apps does not seem to be there under Manila 2.5...and I cannot understand why. I do occasionally get an 'X' or 'OK' but whereas as before I would be able to tap the 'X' and get the drop down this is not happening since upgrading to Manila 2.5
Am running WinMo 6.5.
Can someone advise as to what I am missing?
Regards
Balders
it has been removed from manila in v2.5. try installing the duttys task manager. it will add it. you will need a soft reset after installing

Hi rouzb3h
Thanks for the reply. That is a same as I quite liked the one in Manila 2.5...still you can't have everything.
I will give this a try and see what I think of it. I presume that you use it? If so then did you compare with others? And if so which others might be of interest?
Now off to see if I can find some screenshots.
Many thanks once again.

yes Im using it now. the function is exactly the same as the task manager in previous manilas. it even has the same look. maybe it was extracted from previous builds? I dont know ... I didnt find any alternatives. but this one works very well
they have setting
try go to start>setting>system>task manager
it can set what "X" will do

I am about to install and try it out (as it is now the Easter holidays...and I have the time). I much liked the Task Manager included with Sense 2.1 so what you have stated sounds promising.
Cheers
