Hello,
I know there is a procedure for updating the phone on Windows Vista, but I'm asking myself if someone tried to do an update from a Windows XP virtual machine (as those machines can access to the USB)?
In a nutshell :
Windows Vista real computer
--> Running VMWare Workstation 6
----> Running Windows XP Pro
------> Updating the ROM of the phone
Thanks !

Well, I do this with XP running virtually in Mac OSX through a similar program called Paralells - works like a champ. NOt exactly what you are asking, but close.
I use VMWare 6 in my Vista PC for flash using XP OS before WDCM was launched... and works great...
Now i continue using to flash my Wizard in XP Box trough Virtual Machine cause upgrade tool for Wizard is not compatible with Vista...
So you can use to flash what you want, sure.
Regards.
Thanks for your experiments This will be a super trick for updating my hermes without having to worry about windows vista drivers things!
Thanks!
works like a charm ive been using it since january and i always updaye my roms in it and parallels

Did you guys configure something special in VMware? My VM'ed XP doesn't find the phone (Wizard) over USB, I just get an error in the RUU...
I'm running XP Pro 32bit in VMware 6 on Vista 64bit. Didn't change anything in the VMware configuration... Any ideas?
Not to horribly change the subject, but why not make sure your phone is supercid and flash from an sd card?
I have used this method many times from my Mac desktop, instead of getting out my XP Laptop.

ROM flash through VMWare with a hackintosh/osx86/hackint0sh
Just a little note for anyone searching
You can also flash from a VMWare XP virtual machine in OSX on a hackintosh

I don't know if anyone else have already tried but I've done it this morning.
Successfull.

Ubuntu Linux 6.1.0
VMWare Workstation 5.5.3
Windows XP Professional SP2
Tried sometime back, but getting Activesync to detect the PPC is a little tricky. If detection works, flashing isn't a problem.
hi, what is your Host system, is it Ubuntu,
I have Vista as the Host OS, and XP Pro in VMware. VMware ver.6.0. I will try it I guess.
I tried flashing from a VMware guest - but it failed.
host: Linux 2.6 Gentoo
guest: WinXP SP3.
vmware server 2.0.1.
Phone: HTC Touch diamond
I does detect the phone - and activesync works fine.
But when trying to flash, the device reboots into "flashmode" - and eventough I attach the device to the guest - windows says it cannot regionise the device.
Any suggestion to getting flashing working in a vmware server 2.0.1 setup?
I managed to use Virtual XP Mode in Windows 7 RC to flash only the main ROM image a couple of times. When trying to flash a complete ROM (main, extROM, radio) it failed somewhere after 80 percent on the radio ROM. I reflashed using another PC with XP to fix the No GSM error.
Hi all
Brand new to this forum, having just got an htc wizard and unfortuantely I have vista on my laptop.
I'm just wondering whether it's possible to use a vmware xp installtion (or similar) to flash my phone?
Is it a possibility?
I know it's possible with vista, but from reading it seems easier with xp?
Thanks
You need to install windows mobile device centre for vista from here

Heyho,
just read this Fu**ing great Tut from D-Two:
http://www.mediafire.com/?wozgwddo3ay
all you need is in this PDF, also all Software Downloads as Links...
So, thereĀ“s no need for Virtual Crap, but anyway...Thanks for that
at first i use Win 7 64bit I'm get confuse too, but that Tut give me a light.
im already try almost all rom in this forum for BA, but i think the best room is WM6.1+Manila by dtwo http://bit.ly/b44Dwe.
the important thing is, it worked. but to get on with galluslongus' idea, for flashing with win 7 (even x64) you don't need to run a virtual machine. i tried them all and encountered that to correctly loop through the usb correctly to any virtual machine (vmware, virtual box, virtual pc xp mode, virtual pc 2007...) you need the correct windows 7 drivers anyways. after installing those drivers you can flash in win7 directly, like the way, most people do.
i open this thread again.. because i am now at the point to flash RC5 on my BA. but first i had to downgrade to 2003 to upsize to 60MB Space.. but i cant downgrade, although the right image is in the folder with MaUpgade and i have done all the things in the PDF Guide like driver change and further steps..
if i start MaUpgrade (BA is in USB mode) the tool didnt detect the version.. if i press next, the tool checks the device and then notice me of successfull upgrade.. but my device is still running 6.5.3??!
Any advice?

you don't need downgrade!!! flash the rc5 it has an app for rezise at the beginning!!
PS: You must put the Blueangel into the Bootloader!!
its not my first time, and i did the previous steps.. driver update for win7 64bit. look sreen:
My device is running WM 6.5.3 Beta with 1.15.0 Radio
but i still get that Error 150.. i tried both RC5s on ur mainpost. i tried it with your updater.. what i am doing wrong? cant figure it out - the BA is in Bootloader and the cradle is connected via backside USB Port, not Hub or frontside. On Screen i see USB!
EDIT:
Now its working!!
I just reinstalled the driver and then sign it again via dseo13b (putin .sys in win32\drivers) - restarted pc and now it works!! YES!!
?? didnt understand anything.. sry! whats the problem?
omg zonice nomne
Hello so i struglle here now 2 days in a row trying to jailbreak my hd 7 , can anyone tell me how to do it if i am running Windows XP (3 service pack)
Do That To WIN7.
Do not have any acess to WIN7 ... so is there any way to unlock the phone using WINDOWS XP ?
Had the same issue; running XP and didn't want to upgrade. The only available solution for me was two fold; acquire vmware and vista/win 7 (trial versions will do fine). Install vmware, only 300mb, then load vista or win 7 from inside the prog, (I'd recommend win 7, as you'd need to load sp1 & 2 on vista before you can install developer tools!). And there you go! All whilst keeping use of xp!
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
no need for vmware, use virtual box it's freeware
Hi all,
I've got a problem and I hope someone will be able to help me :fingers-crossed:
I'm now working on a Core Due Duo PC at 2.1GHz on Kubuntu.
When I need Windows, I usually virtualize it in my VirtualBox. Since now, I had no problems with it.
Because I HATE Windows 7 for previous problems, I tried to install Windows Phone SDK on my Windows XP virtualized, following this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Windows_Phone_7_Emulator
Now, emultators starts but it is too slow!
After it starts, after about 20mins disappears the writing as in "booting_1.jpg" file here attached and after some minutes appear Windows Phone Logo as in "wp.png" file attached.
After that, emulator don't go on any more.
I tried the same emulator in a Windows XP machine no virtualized and after some minute emulators was ready.
According to you, is there something I can do for developing for WP7 in my virtual XP? Some particular settings?
I hope in some help, thank you very much
