I recently installed a different ROM onto my device, and now when it syncs with my PC to install the device driver, it installs "Micro$oft Windows Mobile Remote Adapter #3." What the hell is this? Removing it from the Device Manager only reinstalls the same one and I can't sync with WMDC. How do I get Vista to install the correct driver, and why did it never have a problem before?
This happened to me as well after I installed Schap's 3.54c ROM would like to know if there is a fix.
Oh come on, guys. I really wish just once someone would successfully answer one of my questions. This is kind of a big deal here. I can't flash another ROM if I can't sync, and I'm a little skeptical that NO ONE HERE has ever encountered a solution for this. Help me out!
You've been very lucky my friend.

You’re damn lucky no one has flamed you for all of your noob posts. You need to post less and search and read more.
However, because I'm somewhat of "noob" as it relates to posting but, I'm a bit of veteran when it comes to flashing, etc. I’ll bail you out on this one.
1) First, in order to flash from Vista you should visit the Incredible MrVanx’s site. That should allow you to flash from Vista (I haven’t tried it as I have an XP machine right behind me from which to upgrade my 8525 without the risk of heartburn).
2) If it’s syncing you want then you may need to disregard the above and follow the advice posted here.
And, as advice I gave to another smarta** poster (free advice being worth exactly what you paid for it). Drop the attitude and improve your searching/reading skills. If you don’t want to do that, then stop f’ing around with ROM upgrades.

Meanwhile, you need to post less and learn to read more carefully to the posts of those you're responding to. I have flashed ROMs a number of times. Where did I say that I did not know how to flash a ROM? I said that I can't now because since my last flash Vista will not recognize my PPC. It installs the wrong driver and I cannot figure out how to change that. The only thread I found that seemed to answer this question (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=303634) did so in italian.
I also found another thread dealing with this same problem (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=301876&page=3) but aside from re-installing Vista which I am loath to do, none of those solutions worked either.
And as for your second thread you directed me to, I'd already read that and tried downgrading WMDC before. I suppose I should have clarified myself by saying that it's not simply that I can't sync, I cannot connect my PPC to my computer through WMDC at all. I should have been more specific, but I figured since I mentioned that it kept installing the wrong driver, you would have been able to figure that out on your own.
And let me get this straight, you call yourself a veteran flasher, but don't even HAVE the computer operating system I'm having trouble with? Perhaps we both have things to improve about our postings, Timmy.
As for all my "noob" posts, I searched all of them before posting. Not to mention I've only had to post three previous questions which I could not find an answer to on here or elsewhere, those being
A) Is it possible to copy the gwes.exe.0409.mui without having to do a ROM dump? (Never got resolved, though Sleuth at least tried the basics).
B) Is there anyway to redate SMS's since Jeyo screwed them all up when using the program to back them up. (Never got resolved).
C) Can anyone help with the device lock asking for a password I never set up? (Yep, never got resolved).
If you would like to direct me to RELEVANT threads that answer these questions, I'll be more than happy to thank you for it, but until then at least you did get one thing right about your post, that being what it was worth.
Don't know if you've tried this, but.
I had the same issue. After installing one of JJ's ROMs, I couldn't get WMDC to recognize the new build. Broke all partnerships, nothing helped.
I then completely uninstalled WMDC and rebooted. I then went back to MS and grabbed WMDC again. It installed, I plugged in the TyTN and crossed my fingers.
The drivers re-installed and everything is good in the world now.
Also, Mr. Vanx's guide for downgrading drivers is not necessary for the HTC official or at least the last three builds of Black. I can't speak for any other RUU's, but the latest completely work with Vista (Ultimate & Enterprise, at least).
Hope this helps you out.
Thanks for the effort, silverfox, and the tone. Unfortunately I've tried that a couple of times, and it still goes along merrily installing the wrong driver. Does anyone how I could manually select the "HTC USB SYNC" driver? Not even sure where it's located. Checked under system32/drivers but it's not in there.
Nevermind...

Wrong again blowhard, read the post again, especially the part about where I say I have "...an XP machine right behind me..., I'm posting from a Vista machine.

This worked for me

Uncheck "Enable advanced network functionality"

Unfortunately, I've had that disabled for a long time now.
I'm really new to this whole thing of flashings ROM's but my friend said that it is the way to go. I just did my first one, which was the Kavanna 6.1. Now my computer won't recognize the phone, the keyboard is all messed up, I can't use the internet on my phone, and I would like to have the my faves thing back on the home screen. Is there anyone that can give me some assistance on these issues? I would really appreciate it!
First, you need to delete the sync relationship from your PC, as you effectively have a new phone and you don't want any conflicts.
Second, you need to make sure you uncheck one of the USB settings. I don't recall which one, but do a search, the question's been asked numerous times before.
Third, now that you have your phone recognized by the PC, you can install the Tegic keyboard mapping cab. This fixes the keyboard issue. It's a sticky in this forum.
Finally, check out the Wiki for the Tzones settings so you can get back on the internet. This is also a sticky in this forum.
As for My Faves, it's no longer on the phone. You can change your My Faves settings online though.
Next time do a search... every one of your questions has been asked and answered before.
True but...
True these problems have been asked before but when I plug my phone in after doing what you had stated it says that windows has found driver software for my device but encountered an error while attempting to install it and that the requested device registry key does not exsist. I have found the stuff for the keyboard except I can't get my phone plugged in. Any suggestions?
no, really...ALL of this has been covered

I can not get my bank java application to either send sms or connect to internet for activation or transaction. Pls help.
Lol..
Edit; Removed this post. I do apologize, acting before thinking seldom brings good things. Might have been smart to check out your profile first, you are so right. The tallest man is the one who admits his errors. Have a nice day
I think he just believes there to be an error with "java" with this rom.
he is not asking us to do anything other than tell him how to fix the java.
Firstly you should not have made a new thread, should have asked it in the Rom thread where people are more likely to help.
Secondly java is working fine in 3.2
Did you install 3.2 after a wipe or straight from 3.1? if so that might be your problem
Thank you Lennyuk. That was exactly my problem. I actually installed 3.2 straight from a stock rom and while the java was okay as in the program runs, I was unable to get it to activate (needs and sms or gprs for that). It just stays there for ever either sending a message or connecting with no result.
My suspicion is that there is a permission issue or something.
And I have made a post in the main thread, but it appeared buried in the issue of MMS etc.
As for my dull friend who equates every Nigerian to a scammer, I advice that you look well sometimes before you leap. You can check my profile on this board, I have been here for a long time. Pls watch what you say to people, leaping at people like an alsatian dog on community forums like this does not portray you as civilized.
You may be right with the permission issues there, as for a fix I am not so sure. maybe you should try asking in the main forum again now as the mms issues have gone away.
Thanks, I have done it. But I will be glad if people who are experts in this can please check and advice me. Thanks
Try this:
Delete the "java" folder on your sdcard (NOTICE! You'll lose every java program installed already). Then reinstall them again. These actions may will bring them back to life. Make sure you can reinstall them before doing so.
BTW, Make sure your mms and internet connection work with other programs such as htc mail, original mms progam and etc... If they're simply not working, you may need to ask your provider about how to set them up.

Congratulations on bumping a thread from 7th March. This is a thread regarding the HTC Hero, which is an Android phone, and this is an ancient version of a ROM.
Please take your query elsewhere on xda where you may find an answer for your device.
Thread shut to prevent re-bumping
i would greatly appreciate any advice on this matter. well normally, all i had to do was plug my device to the computer, i press Internet sharing on device when the prompt shows, and i connect to internet. Now for some reason it wont and i been trouble shooting all morning and cant figure it out. the only difference is i used my device as a disk drive this morning to put Hdwall program on computer. now when i diconnect and connect again, it lets me select internet sharing but when i press connect, it very quickly says check usb device, it disconnects, then the connect button lights back up again as if i never pressed it. i believe the activesync is blocking me somehow. no settings were changed from b4. i even uninstalled activesync and reinstalled it again in computer(windows xp serv. pack 3). still no luck. i got tired of it n shut computer down..lol can anyone lead me in the right path? how do u disable activesync on device and on computer? so that when i connect device to comp., activesync wont start up and cause issues with internet sharing. i have all the quick fixes to mke device faster, like the memory leak, data fix, no push internet, and dynamic proxy thing. are any of those conflicting with me using internet sharing? cuz i now have hspda/hsup enabled..excuse mispelling. is that the prob? i never had this issue b4. i remember reading that if u connect thru active sync and connect again, the device or computer might not recognize the connection since activesync wasnt really disconnected from first session. how do i reset that to make sure new connection(internetsharing) is recognized versus previous sessions? thnkx in advance
You could just uninstall activesync from the host PC, that would keep it from launching anyway...but I don't know for sure if that's going to get around your issue. Can't hurt to try though.
thnx for the advice. strange how it wrked b4 and not now..lol ima try everything possible b4 hard reseting. for some reason, i believe one of those cabs i downloaded screwed wit somethn. i have data fix, no push internet, dynamic proxy, sd tune up and xda wifi router cabs installed. do u think one of those might be the issue? also, i thght activesync is needed in order for PC to recognize phone. so if i uninstall activesync on computer, will it still recognixe the device and the action im trying to perform(Internet Sharing)? its crazy because it worked fine b4 with activesync in the pc.

I honestly don't know if internet sharing requires an activesync connection, I'd always believed it worked independently of that (and mutually exclusive), like connecting it as a hard drive does.
Make sure that BTTrayCE.EXE is running at startup (look for BTTrayCE.lnk in the Windows\Startup folder). USB Internet Sharing won't work without that service running, and will act exactly like you describe.
Edit: BTW, I mean look for this on your phone, not your computer...
ill make sure to llook for that...i got a slew of cabs to try out in the morning. i have the TP2 tethering cab(the one that doesnt need mortscript) and the ATT tethering cab. im going to try each 1 and uininstalling right after if it doesnt wrk. i also have total commander and seen where all those registry files are at. i just need something clarified for me. When they say, change this(meaning the last line of that reg. file) to this(meaning the edit needed to be ), Is it Simply just Renaming that particular file or part of file? or is it deleting that file and somehow adding one that says the new edit? im confident ill have it tethering soon. at least my xda wifi router wrks perfectly..lol

Changing values in your registry is a matter of navigating to that registry key in your reg editor, clicking on the entry to bring up the dialog to change the value, and then changing it to whatever is specified (a number, a string, whatever), then just clicking 'ok' to save. It looks a lot like a regular file structure, but it operates a bit differently.
I would STRONGLY recommend using whatever regedit tool you prefer to make a backup copy of your registry before making any changes in it...just in case
Got my Tilt 2 tethering again ;-)
IM BACKKKKKKK...lol I am typing now through the tethered connection. lmao this forum is da bomb. i tried again this mornin with nothing added to phone, like fixes, and it wouldnt let me connect. same as b4. I downloaded the ATT Tethering Cab fix, and like magic it worked. It added the option to let me select media net for connection and it connected with no problem. so if you are having issues connecting like i did b4, try the free ATT Tethering Cab fix on this forum. It worked for me directly right after install. Many thanks and credit goes to whoever created this file. i am really liking this forum. so much info in here. learning new stuff everyday. I thought i was already a tech head, but once i came to this forum, i saw the wild modding and rom flashes, and etc.. people are doing. Give me some time, with this forum, i will be flashing roms also..lol I hope. also thanks to people who gave me some advice and encouraged me to solve the problem. With some research and reading, nothing is impossible.
I've been reading myself silly trying to figure this out & my attempts at Searching haven't helped, probably because I'm not fluent enough to use the correct terms. In spite of having this device for several months, I've never learned as much as I'd like. Anyway . . .
I finally flashed the newest stock ROM from HTC several days ago. The process seemed to go fine with one exception: I keep getting a notification that I have a new Voicemail when I don't. I check -- no new Voicemail. I Dismiss, but the the notification keeps coming back periodically. Suggestions?
Other than that, things seemed to go smoothly, and I started slowly getting things back the way I like them. After reading & making sure I understood (or so I thought), I installed the .NET 3.5 Framework so I could use Crud Scraper to get rid of the stuff I clearly remembered using it for.
The .NET part went fine, and then I did the soft reset . . . and lost My Location on the Today screen that shows my weather. It now says I'm in Seattle, which I'm not -- I'm over a mountain range & about 350 miles east of Seattle. When I try to change the location, it doesn't find my town or anything in my area, for that matter..
The mysteriously (to me) reappearing Voicemail Notification is bad enough, but I really rely on the weather, particularly this time of year, and it's driving me crazy that I can't figure this out. Suggestions?
TIA
Did you try looking at the several threads on this ROM in the Rom Development forum? There's a fix in one of them for this problem.
For which problem? And, do you have any idea what thread?
And, yes, I did look in the thread I found (New ATT Tilt2 ROM) -- I believe I read every post before I flashed the latest ROM, even though much of it was over my head. That's where I learned that I had to install .NET 3.5 & reboot before CrudScraper would work.
I recall several people mentioning that the My Location worked flawlessly & how great it was having the location, and I read where one or two people seemed to be having the same weather problem I'm having, but I didn't see an answer. I read in one of the forums that there seems to be a bug (although not confined to the latest ROM) in certain parts of the world, and I read a thread where there seemed to by a problem with My Location in a cooked ROM that might or might not have been related to GPS not working. I read something else where My Location wouldn't work with 3G, only with Wi-Fi, so I tried that, even though My Location was working just fine after I flashed to the latest ROM -- that didn't help.
So, it's not like I'm asking because I hadn't already tried to find solutions myself. I'm not doubting that there are answers to both of my issues but rather that after spending several hours over the weekend trying to find the solutions, I've been miserably unsuccessful. Otherwise, I wouldn't have asked.

For the My Location feature, only part of the service is understood. For the most part, the location is determined by the cell towers your device connects to. It depends on where you are as well as the signal strength. Sometimes the request is not sent or received to/from the tower(s). It is more accurate usually when 3G is turned off. The alternative is to add your city manually. If the location servers can't figure out where you are, then it won't work.
Normally the stock ROMs fix this and work wonderfully after flashing. The best solution to this is to turn off 3G to get a fix or find your city manually.

I'm feeling really stupid here, but being a glutton for punishment, I'll keep trying.
Is it possible that maybe there was something wrong with the towers here that just happened to coincide with the soft reboot after installing .NET? The reason I ask is that My Location is now correct. Yay! That would be just my luck: bad timing.
Any suggestions about the incorrect Voice Mail notification? It for sure comes back each time I power up the phone. It seems to me it also reappears at other times, but I'm not positive about that -- I'm going to try to pay better attention.

Make sure to install .NET CF 3.5 to the device and not the storage card. You'll then need to restart, if it doesn't ask you to do so. You then need to force it to use 3.5 over 2.0. Use a registry editor and navigate to HKLM/Software/Microsoft/.NETCompactFramework. Change the DWORD data of entry 2.0.7045.00 from 1 to 0. Then change the DWORD data of entry 3.5.7283.00 from 0 to 1 and then reset. This disables 2.0 and enables 3.5.
For a decent registry editor that can be used from the PC side, check out CERegEditor if you don't already have an editor of choice.
For the voicemail problem, there are two known solutions. You can either have someone call and leave you a voicemail. You would then check it and delete it. You can also simply call your provider and have them reset your voicemail account. Either one should work.
If neither of those options works for/appeals to you, you can give this a shot. There are no guarantees that it won't come back after a soft reset, though. Using a Registry editor, navigate to the following keys:
HKCU\System\State\Messages\vmail\Line1\Unread
HKCU\System\State\Messages\vmail\Line2\Unread
HKCU\System\State\Messages\vmail\Total\Unread
There should be a value name "Count" with a REG_DWORD value
Change value to 0 in decimal or 00 in Hex.
It should remove voicemail notification icon from the taskbar.

Many thanks! For the Voicemail, I used method one, and it worked
And, thanks for the instructions (and the reg edit program suggestion) to force use of .NET CF 3.5 because I missed that part -- yikes.
I'm on a dedicated mission to cut down on the elecronics I have to carry around, so I need to learn more about the features of the Tilt2 because if I can just figure things out (which I've not forced myself to do), the Tilt2 will, I think, be able to replace my PDA & iPhone.
Anyway, thanks again for your help!
