It currently has Windows Mobile 5 im going to upgrade to Windows Mobile 6 off the o2.com site since it is an xda orbit.
My question is will it effect the unlocking to other providers such as orange and T-mobile, mine did not come sim free or unlocked as we call it.
I got one of the mobile 6 one's preinstalled, and it accepts a t-mobile sim with no changes

Dad has upgraded his phone and he has a o2 Xda mini s that he said i can have but im a Tmobile Pay Monthly contract and want to use my sim in it. How can i unlock the phone so that i can do this?
All the info you need can be found in the Wizard forums HERE
HI
Can a O2 xda be unlocked to use it on 3 network. THe dealer told me that the phone is unlocked, but when I used my 3 network SIM its not taking it...
any similar experiences.......
cheers
it should work, for phone calls and text at least. O2 dont lock their phones. My XDA graphite works happily on 3, except for MMS. Getting reception is another question. Its fine in London, but not so good in other parts of the UK.
So I'm getting a Galaxy Nexus from Vodafone on a contract, for various reasons. But I'd like it unlocked. I read in a few places that Nexus phones are unlocked by default, does anyone know if it would be unlocked. If not, how would I get it unlocked as it's a new phone so I'm guessing it's difficult.
Also are the phones branded, so would there be a vodafone boot logo or any voda apps?
if you are getting it from UK, then yes, chances are it is going to be locked.
funny though, cuz I tried getting one from vodafone but they didn't even have a schedule for it (only yesterday) so I had mine at phones 4U which is only retailer who seem to have one in my area :S
...this one (as usual along with CPW) was unlocked
I got mine from three (on payngo) yesterday, and it is sim unlocked I have used it with my T-Mobile sim. (I am pretty sure that they are all sim unlocked, as has been the case with past nexus phones).
edit: Also no branding, apps from the carrier at all, again like previous nexus phones.

Sorry but your incorrect, galaxy nexus is sold unlocked weather you purchase it direct from your network, a third part phone store, on contract or pay as you go.

apparantly o2 ones are locked, read on here someone who got one from o2 is asking for a code when he puts in another sim.
Question about sim lock
Question here. Suppose the phone is sim locked, will it be unlocked by root or fastboot unlock? Or are they different things? Thanks.

Totally different. SIM-lock has nothing to do with bootloader lock. To my knowledge the only way to SIM-unlock any phone is with an unlock code (or some nasty hardware hacking). Unlock codes can usually be purchased online and many carriers will do it for a fee. I once bought an unlock code online for $5 for my old Nokia N95.
Since you're in the UK, see this thread for more info and a link to a legit ebay seller offering unlock codes.
i can confirm that the handsets bought from O2 are SIM locked to O2.
I can confirm Vodafone UK from p4u are sim unlocked.

All phones from Phones4U are unlocked.
I bought my GN from the 3 Store in the UK 2 days ago - They said it was locked but I put my Giffgaff sim in and it worked no problem.

o2 simlock their phones, if you are on contract with them they will unlock it for free with a 1 week lead time. PAYG you need to spend some money (£10 if memory serves correct) to unlock the device.

Got my GN on three contract yesterday, popped my t-mobile sim in whilst waiting for a number port.
I have a stock GalaxyS2 which I got unlocked by T Mobile for use in Europe. In the US I have the unlimited data plan plus I pay $14 for mobile hotspot service.
On a recent trip to Spain, I bought a sim card from Orange with a 2GB data plan to use while I was traveling.
Everything worked fine with the Orange Sim EXCEPT the Mobile Hotspot feature. I got an error message saying "not supported with this sim"
I also had an older Galaxy vibrant phone and when i swapped out the same sim, the mobile hotspot worked fine, so I know this is something that T Mobile has done to the S2 phone. I know that T Mobile has a lock to prevent Hotspot Use with the T Mobile Sim unless you subscribe to the service. HOWEVER I assumes that when the phone was unlocked for foreign sims by T Mobile, they would remove all software locks so that the phone can be used when traveling overseas.
I have asked T Mobile technical support how to free up this feature but they are clueless. Told me to subscribe to the service but I am already subscribed for T Mobile -- but the lock is still in effect for foreign sims.
This seems DUMB. If the phone is unlocked I assumed they would remove all locks......not just some.
I know that if i root the phone I can bypass the lock but i prefer not to do that.
Can anyone advise how to remove, or get T Mobile to remove the Hotspot lock so that all the features of the phone can be used with foreign sims.
All,
I'm over in the US on Sunday for business again.
I'm thinking of buying an AT&T Note 8 off someone over there.
Will a UK sim card work or will I have to ROOT and install a custom ROM...etc to get it to work?
Not too worried either way, as long as it works!
Thanks
JJ

I dont think so..
1- They will be locked to att, unless you are able to get an unlock code from att
2- Att note 8 does not support phone fn. It supports LTE for data alone.
You will need to simunlock it. I did it for mine and it worked perfectly.
Tought, the device is LTE, it has 3g capabilities so it works in the uk also.
The only thing with the ATT model is that there is no mic and speaker to use it as a phone.
You need to be unlock first i think

First off AT&T does NOT offer a 3g model, it does offer a 4g LTE DATA only and a WiFi model. Meaning they are not voice compliant. Once you're here you can call AT&T store and ask.
I bought one and unlock it using fastgsm.com they charge me like 30 dollars for the codes and I am using it without any problem in Costa Rica with a ICE sim card on a 3G network

No it only receives sms and mobile data no calls
please help
Is there anyway to Sim unlock the galaxy note 8 without paying one of those shady unlocking sites ?
I bought this unlocked, but I've unlocked several AT&T phones by just calling and asking. I've never even been an AT&T customer.
How are you getting sms? I'm unlocked on T-Mobile USA and I still have no sms or stock tethering.
A international version will work in the U.S and Europe. I have one , n5100 on a AT&T phone plan. You just need the sim card.

The i467 has the tethering capability removed. The ability to do sms is a function of the the plan you're on. Texting (and voice) to a phone number can be disabled by the carrier. I have the N5100 and use Google Voice, thus flexibility to use either tablet plans or smartphone plans. On AT&T's DataConnect plan, texting worked but I was charged 25¢/msg. T-mobile's 100 min/5 GB includes unlimited texting. My 5100 was allowed on the plan, I don't know if that would be the case with the 467. If texting is important, another option (albeit expensive) is putting it on a smartphone plan. Probably the best option is to commit to a 3rd party ecosystem if your family & friends are on board, or Google Voice if they're not.
