Encountering same problem with every ROM I've tried. - P3600 ROM Development

First of all, apologies for being a noob, especially if this question has been asked many times before....i realise that will be annoying (ive tried to search though, honest!!)
Every ROM Ive tried to update to my device keeps encountering the same problem:
I have the device connected at all times, and ActiveSync (4.5) is running....the device and my machine even go through a sync there and then.
I run the ROM program, and click through all the screens.....it checks my device, asks if i want to continue and heads to the % screen.
It interogates my device for a minute of so, then ActiveSync simply switches off, on the device screen there no longer appears to be a sync/connection, and then i get a "ERROR [260] : CONNECTION" message - the device has been connected physically all along but as I explained above has happened.
Its the HTC Touch (I assume im on the right forum, i was directed here!!), WM6 in French language (all the ROMS ive been trying are to WWE) Its that the prob, cant I go from WM6 Fre to WM6 WEE??
Also, the phone is currently SIM locked.....does that make a difference??
Is there something obvious (to you experts) that I'm not doing???
Thanks for your time, as I say, any help would be appreciated, since im trying to make a fist of this myself whith no prior knowledge in the subject!!

do you use vista or XP ?
do you try to use another usb cable ?
PS: you are in trinity section not the touch one

Cheers again, but erm.....i dont speak fluent french. The reason the phone's WM6 is in French is becuase i was given it by a family member who found it on holiday in spain (minus sim and contacts, so we have no way of finding out whos it is etc).
Any chance of a translation!!?? LOL

Use hard SSpl from DES check the Wiki page.

When installing WM6, ActiveSync auto disconects. What to do?

Hello everyone.
I have just bought my Hermes (AT&T 8525) after one year of planing so. It came with WM5. I downloaded some of the ROMSs, radio and bootloaders commented here. I tried reading all the vast infromation in this forum and the wiki, but still having a problem.
THE PROBLEM IS AS FOLLOW:
When I start the flashing process, using HTC_TyTN_WWE_3[1].54.255.3_6275_1.48.00.10_108.exe or RUU_Hermes_CINGULAR_WWE_3.1.57.502.1_6275_1.48.00.00_108
... everything goes well, until the progress bar appears in my PC. When it appears, ActiveSync in my PC closes and my Hermes goes to stand by (the lcd goes off) so I cannot complete the installation process.
The phone works pretty well and I'm really amazed for all its capabilities. But still, I'm stucked with wm5.
Why do you think this happened?
PS: I flashed the radio (1.51.00.10) and bootloader (HARD SPL v7). My ROM version is 2.15.502.3. I use "ActiveStink" to sync my files without problems.
Any advice will be more than welcome!!
I'm no expert but that appears to be normal behaviour!
ActiveSync is only used at the start of the process. After a few files have been transfered, Activesync is closed and a different link is established. If you just leave it for a short while longer, a progress bar should appear on the Hermes too.
Yes, ActiveSync will disconnect. The RUU takes over the connection. Have you let it sit - sometimes it takes a minute for the progress bar to move.
Have you consulted www.mrvanx.org for help on the flashing?

I'm having the same problem - always have. The message tells me that I'm disconnected and that I should check my USB connect etc. I left that box up there for about 15 minutes. Now I've closed the box and have waited several minutes with no activity. This is pretty aggravating. Thanks for any help.
try turning off your antivirus aplication. thats work for me flashing my tytn to wm6.
I've done everything.... I guess
Hi...
Yes, I consulted the www.mrvanx.org, excellent tutorials.
I flashed without problem the radio and bootloader. The progress bar started to "progress" and everything was fine. The only problem I have is flashing the WM6.
I don't remember where, but I readed that flashing the bootloader "Hard SLP v7" causes my HTC not to accept any Oficial WM6 ROM. The article said that I only had the chance to flash a coocked or modified ROMs. Is this true?
If not... what else can it be? I also closed all my applicacations including the antivirus, goback, disabled the internet connection, the logictec mouse center, etc. and nothing, the same as Chicoh happens to me.
"Error 260: Connection... check the USB cable bla bla bla."
Should I restart in safe mode to do the flashing?
Should I try to install a modified ROM?
Have in mind I've tried three different official ROMs: WWE, Cingular and spanish.
Thanks to all the comunity!!!
Saludos desde México!!
Greetings -
I had a similar problem and couldn't get the thing get going. My solution was to load it from the SD card. This worked flawlessly.

I'm trying that as we speak. I have a good feeling about this. I'm a little concerned that I didn't think of it though. Makes perfect sense - Skip the middle man.
UPDATE: Crap. No luck. Thanks all the same though. I'm not giving up.
What OS are you using, xp or vista? My vista 'top had the same problem wouldnt flash for the longest time and i had to use my xp.
However, it does work now. Not entirely sure why.
Now I had success!!!
Hello my friends.
It seems that the article I readed days ago detailing that after flashing the Hard SPL v7, I could only install a modified ROM, not an official one from HTC or Cingular.
I downloaded Black Satin and installed it without any troubles. The entire process lasted only 3 minutes!!!
I wanted to have an official ROM, don't ask me why, and never tried the "other" ROMs that are actually excellent!!! some apps that were on WM5 are not in WM6, which is kind of sad, but if there's something that I love of WM Smartphones is that I can download and install whatever I want or develop it if it doesn't exist!!!
By the way, I use Windows XP Pro.
Thanks for all the support!!!
PS: Before flashing the Hard SPL v7, I tried installing the cingular WM6, but didn't make it. That's why I readed almost all the pages and threads here in xda-developers and found that flashing a new bootloader was a very good idea. The rest of the story is known by you.

ppc problem: white screen after upgrade

Hi there, new guy here and with a big problem
i have a bluemedia pda 255, from what i understand it's the same thing with mio 168 (or not?), anyway, it was using a windows mobile 2003 SE in german and i tried to change it to english using a .bin image i found on the web.
now when it starts all i see is a white screen and nothing more, and that wouldnt be such a big problem if i could enter the upgrade tools mode, but i cant do that either, so it simply stays all blank all the time. I can connect it to my pc via usb and i can browse all the pda's files using activesync, but that's all i can do.
Before i started i've made a backup using activesync and another backup using osloader. Now i've tried the activesync backup and i get an error message telling me that the backup version is different from the one on the pocket pc.
The .ppcrom file that i've made using osloader i dont know how to use it to restore my old OS withouth having to access the pda (sience i cant).
from what i understand, there is a way to fix it using JTAG, but that's science fiction to me (i only had this pda for about two days, and this is my first pda also, so i'm a real newbie), i cant find any sort of professional service in this town to get help from them.
so... any help, any help at all would be welcomed
...is there nobody?
Hi,
I do not have the pda you have but do have some advice.
You keep saying "from what i understand" , did you get this "understanding" from this site or another?
If you got it here, please post your problem to the forum thread that has the info.
If you got it elsewhere, you may want to post there and see what response you can get.
Not trying to be cavalier here but a person can only help if they have had the experience of the pda you own, if they do not, they most likely will not post advice.
Good luck.
well. no... my understanding did not came from here, i have it from a thread started in 2005 (other site)and i asked there also, i also agree that someone can help only if he has the experience of this pda...
which is more likely why i find myself in this situation, i think i followed the upgrade guide from another pda
and about the advice, sience at this moment all i can do with the pda is to throw it at the garbage, im willing to try anything on it
id even try the jtag thingie, that requires me to open up the pda and mess around inside, but i have a great lack of info about the subject and no expertise whatsoever
kind thanks for your advices, as i said before, they are welcomed!
ok, something else then, does anyone have the RUU? the rom update utility in german for my kind of ppc? thanks
I have the same problem !
"English ROM wince2003se for MIO 168

" - http://home.scarlet.be/lataupe/W2003se_MIO168_168WWER27.rar ,but the result is blank screen and I have no idea how to fix the problem ? Any advice ?

PLEASE ASSIST: I'VE RECENTLY UPGRADED MY CINGULAR/ATT 8525 HERMES UNIT TO WINMOB6 AND NOW CAN'T GET PAST THE INITIAL WINDOWS MOBILE SCREEN WHERE IT SAYS "TAP THE SCREEN TO SET UP YOUR WINDOWS MOBILE BASED DEVICE." (THE TOUCHSCREEN SEEMS TO BE DISABLED) ALSO, NOW ACTIVESYNC WILL NOT CONNECT TO THE DEVICE. I'M AT A LOSS AS TO WHAT ELSE TO DO (TRIED HARD RESET SEVERAL TIMES WITH SAME RESULT). IF SOMEONE COULD POINT ME IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION - I'D SURE APPRECIATE IT.

hmm no need to scream.
Push the OK on left and power on right, and stick stylus in all at the same time. Re run the exe file while it is plugged in to active sync, and see. Which WM6 did you use?
Sorry I'm new at this. I used WM6.1. Which exe file do you want me to re-run. ActiveSync is offline....I can't get it to connect to the unit. Thanks for your assistance.

Ok, since you're on ATT I suggest you follow my instruction above, get into tricolour screen (bootloader), and download this
from the post above you will get the shipped ATT rom. Don't worry if activesync is saying is not connected, just run the file. You will then get back to a WM6.
The phone originally came with WM5 and I was upgrading to mess around with the thing. I'm at the tricoloured screen and now downloading the files from RapidShare. Will this get me back to WM5 or to the upgrade. If there is a way, I like to try the HardSPL flash I've been reading about today - will this work on either WM version? Txs & Rgds.

After you have flashed this WM6.0 you really need to flash hard SPL first, I thought you would have done that already.
Really please read this first before you brick your phone.
No that's the thing. I'm just finding out how I went about this all wrong and maybe shouldn't have been messing this in the first place. Anyhow, my bootloader screen reads like this:
HERM100
IPL-1.04
HERM100
SPL-1.40.Olipro

Nope, didn't work. Here's the report:
ERROR [260]: UPDATE ERROR
The update utility cannot connect to your PDA Phone. Please check that your USB cradle/cable is connected properly between the PC and your PDA phone.
Check the following:
1. The PDA Phone is connected to the USB cradle/cable.
2. The USB cradle/cable is connected to the PC.
Is there another way to establish comunication with the PDA other than through ActiveSync? Somekind of emulator box or binary software???

hmm weird, so have you got .net framework installed on your PC? try it again one more time while in bootloader, plug the phone to USB as long as you can hear the 'ding' sound you should be OK. I have 'bricked' my phone a few times and this always work. What are you trying to flash? the hardspl or the ROM?
Yes, today I upgraded to .net framework 3.5 when ActiveSync failed Microsoft Error took me to their website and offered me the option. I had been running 2.x .net framework and never had a problem would also use same ActiveSync with my old Axim X30.
Yes, I can hear the 'ding' sound and I was trying to run the file RUUWrapper.exe (Hermes ROM Upgrade w/ the option Force using SSPL).
well that shows the other way around doesn't work, so you need to get your phone to a working WM6 state, how is your download going from rapidshare? get it to boot loader mode again and flash that exe file.
Just completed that route - I ran the PDA Phone ROM Update Utility 3.12.3.7 - the process took about 10 minutes to go through 100%, then it restarted and stayed at the Window Mobile screen for little over minute (crossing my fingers), but then just showed the same message "Tap the screen to set up your Window Mobile based device." Please let me know if you have other avenues to try – It’s close to 4am here in Miami, but I'm not sleeping. I’m really glad you are able to assist with this mess – thanks a lot!

Okay good day, I'm back on the trail. Found shipped ROM on WIKI for HERMES in the following thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=277664
Downloading now...According to pof(moderator) it's a "new rom from the still unreleased Cingular 8525: HTC Hermes (HERM100) branded from U.S. Operator Cingular"
My only question then would be that this appears to be made for WM5 and I performed the WM6 upgrade which is what got me into this mess in the first place - so will there be any conflicts or issues I should now about? I'm about to go ahead with it - if anyone is out there and thinks otherwise, please advise soonest. Thx & rgds, Ed

Sounds good man!! Flash it!! oem WM6 roms usually fix allot of issues.. Don't be scared everyone else is busy flashing WM6.1 roms all the time now!
Thanks for the words of support <joshkoss>! Just attempted several times to flash the Shipped ROM I found from <pof> (PDA Phone ROM Update Utility - R:31300 D:51000 U:31101 P:0) and keep getting ‘ERROR[260]: UPDATE ERROR’ message. While instead I went back again to flashing the ROM that <zocster> suggested last night (PDA Phone ROM Update Utility 3.12.3.7) and it does go through the entire 10 minute process until it shows 100% completion both on the PDA and on the PC and then tells me congratulations….etc. I even flashed it twice back-to-back as I read to do in one of the threads – but just keep getting back to the dreaded Window Mobile screen with the same message "Tap the screen to set up your Window Mobile based device."
My next question is this: Why does the PDA Phone ROM Update Utility 3.12.3.7 connect to the PDA, but the PDA Phone ROM Update Utility - R:31300 D:51000 U:31101 P:0 (which I read is the Shipped ROM that I need to get the PDA back to) gives me an error message. Obviously, there is a connection since I’m able to get a 100% completion on the other ROM??? Please kindly advise…..

HTC S620 updating issue...

Hi,
I've searched over this forum and cant find an answer to what I need so I figured I would post.
I have a HTC S620 (sim free) and it has WM5 on. I would like to upgrade to WM6. (not 6.1 yet.) I have looked over this forum and found lots of stuff on how to do it and I have tried 2 different ROMs and also watched the you tube video.
When I use the official wm6 ROM, (even before I have tried to install the ROM) my phone gets to the white screen stage and then disconnects which means the ROM installer doesnt work because the phone isn't connected.
I have also tried to isntall the kavana 6.1 version and the ROM installer comes up with an error code which says the model isnt compatiable.
The wm6 official upgrade looks more promising if any one has any solutions? although any solutions would be very welcome.
thanks
James.

James,
How long have you had BT Anywhere as they have all been WM6 since over a year ago? Should bare any difference anyway, the phone will stop active sync when it goes white anyway.
You should be able to upgrade to WM6.1 without any hitches with following the "Upgrade to WM6.1" you should do this before hand http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2807194&postcount=485 if getting error message "mind you may help if know what the message is?"
Hi cheers for the reply. It's not a BT one, its actually a second hand one off ebay so I assume its pretty old. Its just branded as HTC...

Still go with previous post to flash WM6.1 if you want to upgrade to WM6 you need to know what the original carrier of the phone is does it have a carrier plas on load?
Mind you i'd flash to WM6.1 if i was you as it's an advancemet far greater than WM5 to WM6
Hi again,

When the whitescreen launches WMDC will stop sync and the computer takes over via it's own driver, did you leave it there with the white screen or just disconnect Dash when WMDC disconected?
ive yet to change a rom on vista because of the lack of ativesync which is really dumb

I left it there with the white screen, didnt touch any USB connections or anything. When I did this, the windows sound sounded (as in when something is disconnected) and the green light went off on the phone and the ROM installer wouldnt run because it says the phone is disconnected...Cheers for your help btw
James.
Isn't there a center key press on the d-pad in there somewhere? Are you doing that?

Please Help -HARSPL

Please save sarcasm when responding. I have been reading and would onlt ask for help a last option.
My phone - HTC Pro 2 (I bought it from a authorized t-mobile store)
Need help with - ugrading it to 6.5 or any cooked version that will work
History - my phone is already unlocked as I had unlock kings do it. I tested it and I can put any sim it and it works fine.
Problem - every time I try and install a new rom on it I get one the follwing errors or issues: My usb connection stop when the install starts and the process times out, or I get a host of errors messeges from invild device to wrong version.
I need very simple instructions on what I need to do upgrade my os and then later migrate to some of the really roms I have seen on this site.
Please help.

When you read those 11 steps in the HSPL thread, where is it, where you say: nothing happends?
As it stands, you will only be able to install an official T-Mobile ROM if it is a T-Mobile-branded phone.
So installing HardSPL will let you flash whatever ROM you want, any of the official ones (including, say, HTC official 6.5), or one of the fine cooked ones from this forum.
If you are having trouble with HardSPL, you really need to post on that in the HardSPL sticky.
no matter what I do, the connection always times out. It seems my phone will not allow anything rom software to be installed. Where can I find enableapnew.cab? The rom software told me i needed that.
@bigdaddy67
This sounds like a USB issue, try this:
1. Power off your TP2
2. Press and HOLD the volume down button, press and HOLD power button until you see the multi-coloured screen (bootloader mode)
3. Connect your TP2 to your computer via USB
4. You should now see the letters USB at the bottom of the TP2 screen
5. If you DO, run hardSPL
If you DON'T, try a different USB cable and/or port on your computer.
If none of the above helps, take a screen shot of your bootloader screen and post it.
How to get a screenshot:
1. Go to http://www.mymobiler.com and download/install the software.
2. Open it and take a screen shot
3. Post it here.
We are here to help, but need some additional details!!!
