I have just updated my TyTN to WM6. It all went well (it was renamed frpm TyTN to Hermes200, but I can live with that,,,) BUT, it seems to think it has lost its memory. When I try to start a PIM (Agenda Fusion 8.5) it just wont start properly, it goes on "updating" the appointments and tasks, and the suddenly returns to my start screen. Also, when trying to sync it says "sync can not be completed" too little memory left... And when I tried to delete a task, it said there was to little memory to start the program, and suggested that I should go to "System - memory" and stop some programs there. BUT there were no programs running, and I have 8MB memory for program and 14 MB for storing left... That has been enough before...
Anyone having had and/or solved this issue? Thanks in advance!

Bad blocks?
Your device may have a bunch of bad blocks. If you've got Hard-SPL installed, they can most likely be fixed.
That sounds great! I have read through the post you suggested, but it was a bit too technical for my english, do I just take the "hard-SPL" and install it on my device, and then start it? (I might with this question not only proof that I am swedish, I might also be a bit non-technically-stupid... )
instant tall hard SPLv7 which you should have done before flashing anyway to be on the safe side. then download MTTY to your desktop/laptop. start MTTY and in the cmd prompt type info 8 and that will tell you if you have bad blocks. if you do type task 2a if I remember right and that will fix them. its not hard at all if you follow directions carefully. one thing though MTTY only works with XP not vista.
Thanks for that! You say I should have had it installed before, but I can install it now afterwords?
I have a swedish update to WM6, does that matter?
Sorry.. I have to have some more help... Should I do i like this:
1) make ha hard reset of the TyTN
2) install Hard SPLv7
3) Download MTTY (what is this..?)
4) "fix it"
5) put my back up back again
I am not so used to this, excuse if I ask stupid questions... My TyTN is though at the moment more stupid than I am. I can not start the camera (not sufficiant memory), not start the contatcs list and the backup I have put back was not properly installed, the textmessages is missing, some settings is not there, I can etc. BUT the phone-part of the phone works better!
i am very much looking forward to some help here!
Thanks in advance!

Dunno if this is relevant to me here...
I upgraded to WM6 and already have the SPL bootloader in and a custom, er, rom. Seemed to work ok but towards the end of the day I noticed that the TASKS (ie reminders) wouldn't work, stating out of memory. Now the PIM is corrupt

So, some of you have this error, some dont. So lets try and figure it out. Heres what we know.
The problem affects ALL Artemis WM6 ROMS.
Remember, the issue doesnt appear when just using it normally. Its only under certain circumstances. Heres how you re-create the problem.
Run Tomtom, this causes the error90% of the time.
Create a new word document and try to save anywhere.
Heres my setup and what ive tried to fix it.
Device: MDA Compact III
SD Card: 1gb
Ive tried font cache size, system cache, removing the memory card.
Please dont post "I dont get the error" if you havnt tried running tomtom or saving a word document.
Thanks
To add to the problem re-creation, I was trying to copy a directory with around 15 files in it from the internal memory to the storage card, the message just kept popping up for all the duration of the copy process, I stoppped clicking ok eventually. I looked at the free program mempry available then and it was pretty good at around 22mb.
Device: Orbit XDA
SD Card: 1gb
I too have noticed that looking at the free storage space seems to fix it for tomtom (but not word). There is something else wrong with Excel in that the "Save As" is in the wrong place, infact where it is isnt actually save as.
You're right, I haven't noticed this before with excel. I can't remember if it was like this before, was it? It won't be easy figuring this little memory issue out. I hope someone has a trick up their sleeves.
I have the WM6 emulator running on my pc and the excel thing isnt there. Comparing the registry settings on the emulator with my device. I would love to hear if anyone does actually have Word working without issue.
BREAKTHROUGH!
OK. I installed the original Orbit rom and... IT WORKS!!!! So the question is what did bepe and the guys do when they de-branded it? The orbit rom has an Ext-Rom with a load of branded stuff PLUS! some patches. I bet one of these patches fixes the issue!
These custom roms have NO Ext-Rom at all, hence the increased storage space. however in the process of removing the ext rom they have managed to cause these memory errors.
So guys, any chance of a rom close to the Orbit rom but with the English language and Ext rom left in tack?
Great work mate, it is the removal/merging of the extended rom that's causing the problem then. Maybe it's not even a patch in the extended rom, maybe it's the way the extended rom was merged that's causing it. This surely deserves more looking into.
Great breakthrough
Word FIX!
Thanks to pvdhelm for the tip on this one. Attached is a patch to fix the memory issue with word (and only word). To fix it for other apps you need to view the memory in the control panel and click on "Storage Card". The word fix is pernament but the other memory issue it only until you reset your phone.
Absolutely brilliant, so it looks like missing registry entries!! We need to find out what was in the original extended rom then to find out if we're missing anything else. Looks like only me and you here, you should post this fix in the main threads mate.
Cheers and well done.
I have a copy of the rom, tried isntalling it all but to no avail. It looks like on boot up the system thinks it has a different ammount of ram due to the ext rom being merged. By displaying the ammount of storage it realises it has a different ammount and fixes it. Until the next reboot. So if anyone knows what changes when you view the storage that may be fixing it I would love to know.
Or if somone can make a rom with the ext rom still in place.
EDIT: Heres one just for the MDA Compact III without WiFi users. It applys the Word memory errror fix but also fixes the Comm Manager issue and does so just for the MDA as it removes WiFi from the list.
Maybe this is a clue for you all. I have never had these errors, ands I use Tomtom daily and have tested word for you again with no fault.
The difference? Well I upgraded to WM6.0 the original way before USPL patch and flashed the OS only. I'm assuming you with problems used the ROM installer method. Am I right with my assumption? If so that should narrow down the culprit.
I used Bepes original WM6 WWE OS only upgrade, therefore the Ext ROM on my device is still the old T-Mobile WM5 one and was simply not allowed to run. So it can't be right to assume there is something missing from an EXT ROM patch.
It's most certainly the extended rom being merged then, there's nothing else to it.
gajet, can you give me the exact steps you took. I went from the T-Mobile rom to Black and blue then to the others. I uses USPL first though.
Can you give me a quick set of steps you took i.e Original T-Mobile rom, then ran USPL, then updated to Bepes.
Also, if you used bepe's can you also tell me which rom update util you used? as the one ive tried has errors at the end.
Thanks

VERY interesting reading!
If you move this thread, please drop a link on here for us, thanks. The first one to crack this problem will be worshipped from afar I am sure!!
I think it could be an order of upgrade issue, heres the latest.
1. Downgraded to T-Mobile WM5 rom
2. Ran USPL
3. Upgraded to Bepe WM6 using the EXE version
The word issue is no longer there but the out of memory in Tomtom is. Also no ext rom.
It would be good to know from others and gajet what steps they took and which files they uses to do it. Especially as gajet still has his extended rom.
I've tried:
official t-mobile wm5 to german wm6 to bepe uspl &
official t-mobile wm5 to bepe uspl
Both times I have had the error with tomtom but no problems with word.
Both times temp fix (looking at storage) worked (sorry about font cache red herring - thought I was onto something there).
Just tied chi-tai extended battery plugin with the storage showing on the homepage (as a way to force system to get correct memory) but no joy.
I have htc touch com manager and phone skin but not the home plugin.
Cheers
Matt
I think Ive cracked it. Just doing some final testing but watch out for a new "How to" thread.
go Danny go.
Look forward to seeing it.
Will test and report back once you've posted.
Cheers
Matt
Sadly the original thread was edited to reflect the OS update was repackaged but eddie2k still goes on the reexplain the process in this thread.
eddie2k said:
then use winrar to unpack the (bepe) wm6 wwe rom in this page (written in red). flashed using bootloader method.
after u get german rom installed , run ARTE os flash utility from xda ftp (log in properly) link don't work if not logon properly..
ftp://ftp.xda-developers.com/Uploads/Artemis/arte.zip unpack
copy os.nb from first folder (bepe) wwe rom to arte folder and rename os.nb to windows.nb then run UpgradeRom.bat
hard reset, soft reset done.

Now I didn't bother installing the german O2 release as my MDACIII was CID locked, so I just used ARTE package with Bepes WM6 .nb renamed and flashed the OS only, then after hard resetting, at the point of about to load EXT ROM soft reset.
This thread was also the guide although you could skip the process of extracting the .os from a ROM package as Bepe originally provided us with the raw windows.nb file.
Thanks gajet, Ive just posted the steps. Your post was deffinatly the key. Once I saw you still had your ext rom I knew we could do it.
Answer is here

I have had my orbit for a while and has WM6. After about 15mins or so of continuous texting the whole thing just slows down completely (takes twice as long for functions to complete including inputting letters) until I do a soft reset. At that point if I try to access like settings it comes up with out of memory or something similar. I am beginning to suspect my 8Gb microsd card. Any ideas? Btw, no other programs are running in the background
Hi,
I had the same problem. It's a file in the Windows folder that keeps growing and growing. Mine ended up to be a whopping 26 Mb and clogged the main memory. It's a file that is related to the automatic word recognition while you're writing.
Youu'll have to enter the options of the keyboard and uncheck the corresponding option. Also you can hit the button right next to this option to erase all entries. And just to make sure, search the file in the windows folder (I forgot it's name, sorry, but you'll recognize it by its size) and erase the file.
Hope I could help you.
Thanks for your reply, I've just got rid of Wm6 and downloaded one the GW rom's so it's rectified the problem! But what file are you referring to in windows folder...I've looked through it and cant find anything to do with auto word recogntion???
Hello everybody,
Now here comes a strange one! At least to me.
I have a HTC P3300 with the official WM6. I had installed all the Homeplugins, dial skin, comm manager, etc, to get it to look like a HTC Touch (without the cube).
Never had any installation problem.
Recently I came too close to the memory limit, so I decided that I would install most things to the storage card (yeah I know, real experts do that the first time, lol). Everything went fine, except for the 8-Button-CommManager (I can't tell you the exact file name because I changed it, but I downloaded it from this site).
The installation was succesfully, but the CommManager is invisible, well not quite invisible but you can see through. Just seeing the text but no buttons, no icons, just the Todayscreen behind with the button-text floating.
I re-installed it: first I was asked if I wanted to remove the old one which I approved. Installation failed, no permission! I never had this!
I tried again. This time no question about the old one, just the "no permission"-reply.
Of course I googled this but I haven't found anyone having this problem with a program he was able to install in the past. (No permission -> you have to unlock your phone, etc okay for those who never could install anything...or am I wrong)
Thanks a lot for answering (forgive my english, I got a little nervous with this problem )
PROBLEM SOLVED!
So for those who have encountered this problem, or for those just wanting to know about it, I found a solution after some intense googling.
The CommManager has some known bug, that it does this invisble thing when it is installed to the storage card, without giving you the possibility to uninstall it via "remove programs".
Just reinstall it to the memory. No problem so far.
I did NOT (for example) changed/upgraded ROM. I just put new 2GB SD card and scanned some folder on it in Today Player for mp3s. It hanged. So I restarted it, aaaand I can't get to my phone at all
Sometimes it gave me message with something about Voice Commands (and hanged) and now it just hangs on Today screen - bottom "buttons" (Calendar/Contacts) aren't displayed on the screen, but everything else looks "proper". It just isn't reacting to _anything_ (I mean keyboard or touch-screen).
update1: I just noticed that Calendar and Contacts _do_ appear for less-than-a-second then disappear - and at this moment system gets unresponsive
update2: the message that sometimes appear is: "Voice Command has encountered a problem. Restart Voice Command and try again.". I googled for it but nothin helpful.
HELP!
Of course I will probably try to perform some ROM upgrade, but... (for various reasons - don't ask) ...I didn't perform any synchronization. Is there any way to backup data (most important being Contacts and SMSes) ..before performing any ROM upgrade (and assuming it will going to work)... ((
Funny thing is: I was postponing ROM update (from current 6.0) for some time, because I didn't want to loose any data...
Have you checked your battery?
Are you sure you flashed a ROM according to your RAM capacity? (128Mb or 64Mb)
Have you done a hard reset?
Please have a deep read here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=549207 (post 2)
Hope it helped,
1. I did NOT flash the ROM. It happened "by itself". the only thing that I could suspect is TodayPlayer trying to read folders recursively and writing something in memory.. (some kind of buffer overflow?) ..damaging the content.
2. I don't want to loose my SMSes and Contacts, so I didn't try hard reset *yet*. It's the last resort and basicaly I would be willing to even desolder the memory to get the data from it - even loosing the phone. (yes. everyone -including me- will now say: if those data were so important - why didn't you made a backup? that's why I said in my post above: "don't ask")
Is there ANY way to get to those data from software that boots from SD card? I mean - when upgrading the ROM - is there any way to backup other-than-rom contents to SD card?
Sorry to ask a simple question, but can you connect via active sync, or is the system unresponsive to this too?
I don't know what 'Today Player' is, but it sounds like that it cached stuff to the main memory (maybe making a database of music files) and has filled it up without respecting to leave any memory for the OS to use.
no prob.
I tried that and apparently it freezes cold within that fraction of a second. computer reacts to "new device" but then ActiveSync hangs because it's already unresponsive...
Ok, so I've done some research, and I'm about 2 seconds from resigning myself to a hard-reset. I'm gonna see if you wizards can conjure me up some kind of miracle;
Here's the question: Is there any possible way to dump the contents of the filesystem without accessing Windows Mobile directly? Alternatively, is there any way to recover text messages after a hard-reset? The goal here is text-messages, anything else is bonus.
Here's the story in case any of it points to a recovery option;
I'm running Windows Mobile 6.1 on my Rhodium. I followed a guide to change the registry information for my default keyboard ( http://www.mydigitallife.info/2008/...r-as-windows-mobile-default-after-soft-reset/ ). Everything went fine, except I think I used the wrong identifier for which keyboard to use.
The phone wont boot, shows a black screen ( after the standard tmobile logo ), and after a few minutes suggests a hard-reboot with VOL+ ). I can access both the bootloader ( VOL- and Power ) and the Hard-Reset ( from the previously described and using [Answer]+[Hangup]+[Power] ).
I'm really looking for any kind of solution, any thrown bone. Here are the options I'm aware of;
1: Rip the phone apart and unsolder/read the memory directly ( apparently this will work, with a lot of time, and a useless phone after. Not an option )
2: Root the phone and access the filesystem directly ( I can't find any information specific to the rhodium on this, any links would be great )
3: Recover the messages after a hard-reset ( like I've seen on SD cards, but I don't know if you can do this on the built-in memory. Again, any information or links are appreciated )
4: Dump everything on the built in memory to my computer and sort it out later ( I don't care how long it would take me, even if I have to use a hex-editor to lovingly single out the messages' garbled contents. Would need to know how to make such a dump first ).
Yes, I know I need to make backups ( I have some, but not for a few months, and they were the important ones ).
Yes, I know people hate windows mobile and tell me I should switch to Android.
Yes, I know "hard-reset and forget" is an option. I'm not looking to avoid it, I just really, REALLY want to know if anyone has another option before I resort to that.
mtty
Ok, I've done more research;
Apparently you can use mtty.exe to connect to the phone and issue low-level commands. I'm aware of a task 29 ( format ) and task 8 ( reset ). Does anyone know if a reset just writes the image? If so, can I run task 8 without task 29?
success?
Through one way or another, I'm suffering the same problem and I'm trying to dump the memory. Did you have any success?
Sadly no, noone gave a crap.
Sorry about that. Seems like the bootloader that's installed by default is all-together MISSING that copy command. Maybe you can try installing a new loader, but I have no information for that.
*edit* Forgot what information was in this thread
There's a command that will do a ROM dump to the SD card so you can sift through the data manually. It's accessible through mtty if you have the right bootloader version, and the root password ( that's around someplace, let me know if you need it ). But like I said, mine was missing the command all together. Who knows, maybe you have a different version.
Also, you might be able to dump the rom through USB, but I think you need OS access to do it
