If Anyone has applied the WM6 update from O2 to their Orbit, you may find that you need to downgrade back to WM5 before installing B&B v4 ROM. The reason is the USPL that is updated. After flashing O2 ROM the USPL is updated to 3.something. When running the USPL program the SPL number changes to 1.11.0000. This does not happen after O2 upgrade.
So far only way to remedy this is to flash back to WM5, re-flash USPL and then flash new ROM.
And where do i get the "old" WM5-O2-Rom for my Orbit?
Thanx!

Thanks CoolGadget - that was fast.
1 more question for a newbie like me:
-I own the german version of the O2-Orbit - does this make a difference?
Cheers

Before everyone who's done the update to WM6 goes down this road, try this.
1. Make sure you're using a Windows XP PC!!
2. hard reset.
3. perform basic setup as normal.
4. soft reset.
5. apply uspl.
6. flash with B&B 4.
I had the offical WM6 ROM on mine, and actually just soft reset it, applies USPL and flashed and didn't have a single problem.
What is USPL?
OK this is a really stupid question, but what is a uspl?
Thanks for this tip,
it worked perfectly for me.
I unlocked my Orbit with C3v2Unlock from Imei Check (and of course my .unl key), prior to USPL Flash, but I'm not sure if it was necessary as USPL makes your phone SuperCID temporarily.
Anyway thanks again,
B&B 4.0 rocks !!

1. To all members I would always recommend running USPL first before downgrading rom - if the spl no's change then it worked and you can flash another rom. (it worked on my orbit after flashing official o2 wm6 rom)
2. After supercid unlock from imei check - your device is permanently cid unlocked no matter what rom you flash - there is no need to run cid unlock again or uspl.
Shand if poss can you update your post as members will end up confused - if you doubt the info its here on the forum - read posts from faria and others.
I had o2 WM6 and I just flashed with uspl and then B&B 4.0, didn't need to downgrade back to wm5.

Just did a friends orbit, had no problems either.
I just did my XDA Orbit. Downgraded to the official 02 WM5 (as I'd installed the new 02 WM6 official version), ran the USPL and installed the new version. It's so sweet!
Also, I did mine using Vista - no probs. Just make sure you have old active sync drivers installed for Bootloader mode. Ask if you're unsure.
Actually while I'm here, I can see I can overclock the CPU. What's the maxium I can take it to, (safely)?

I looked around and did not see a clear answer to the question of reverting/flashing back to WM5 if desired after flashing one of these WM6 ROMS.
Does anyone know where I can find the answer?
Thanks in advance.
I too have looked around but haven't asked for fear of being flamed. The gurus think that we should be able to pick up on all the lingo and have a clear understanding of what everything means.
I am looking for a way to go back to a shipped ROM from anything after flashing SPL 1.11 in case I need to warranty exchange my Cingular 8525. I have yet to figure out how to do it.

Yes. You can go back to WM5 from WM6. I have done it before with no problems. Your answer is once again yes!

...but just to let You know..
once You go black (2.5 ), You will never go back...
hi there
first of all, I am no expert in the ROM related knowledge, but i did go back to WM5 from WM6 recently. The reason I have gone back to WM5 it is because I am suspecting the Chinese viewer (CE-Star) that i used does not work good in any flavor of WM6, it causes frequent lock-ups in WM6 that makes my phone pretty much unusable.
Besides, i don't mind to share my experience for downgrading to WM5, the following is my up and down sequence.
1. upgrade from Dopod WM5 rom to WM6 cooked rom
2. upgrade to SPL 1.40
3. upgrade radio to 1.38.00.11
4. upgrade radio to 1.40.30.00
5. upgrade to SPL 2.10
6. downgrade SPL from 2.10 to 1.40
7. downgrade from WM5 Rom (It is some sort of HTC Standard WM5 Rom that my friend gave me, and my radio has gone back to 1.38.00.10 as the ROM comes with it.
8. upgrade to SPL 2.10
9. upgrade to Radio 1.40.30.00
Also, you may check out mrvanx's guide for downgrading to WM5 here.

actually... i'm on black 2.5 and thinking of going back... too many apps are wiggin out on wm6
I actually just did it. I was running the latest version of HardSPL, flashed to the new ATT ROM, and then created a updater to flash the SPL to the ATT spl.
Wasn't hard, and only took a few minutes. So, as of right now, my phone is running the new ATT ROM, and if I need to warranty it, I'm all set.
in the wiki it mentions..
If your vendor has released you original rom as a shipped upgrade, you just need to flash it.
If your vendor has not released any ROM upgrade yet, you cannot fall back to original ROM easily. You'll have to reconstruct the ROM out of a dumped ROM.

if you only want to read chinese, but not input, there is an alternative to it. look for a cab which is named 'sunglobe.ttf register patch'.
Maybe the easiest way
First thing I would want to do is to Flash the unit to what is known as a "Hard SPL". For some reason it makes all the other flash work go a lot more smoothly. You can get instructions and software for that at:
http://www.mrvanx.org/cms/index.php...ask=view&id=40&Itemid=26&limit=1&limitstart=2
Once that is done, and it should take about 5-10 minutes depending upon the speed of your computer and USB connection, you can load whatever OS rom you desire.
You can get a carrier agreeable rom from the Cingular/ATT site:
http://www.htcamerica.net/support/8525/software-downloads.html
Or, and this should work, just link directly to the rob by clicking:
http://www.htcamerica.net/support/d...R_WWE_2.15.502.3_6275_1.40.30.00_108_Ship.exe
This should leave you at the latest and greatest of the WM5 packages from Cingular/ATT, and all should be well. And . . . if it hozes . . . which it should not, you should have no warrantee issues since you were trying to flash the upgrade that THEY were providing you. :-D

ROMs from Dopod HK or Singapore are very old ones. The SPL is 1.04. You may not be able to flash backward if you are with HardSPL v7. Also if your radio ROM is newer than 1.27, you may face problem when you flash the original (as it is packed with an old radio rom).
(Please correct me if I am wrong.)
To play safe, follow mrvanx' guide:

After some readings and I have managed to used dutty's tool to recompiled the Dopod's WM5 English rom from the original Dopod shipped rom.
This rom has OS + Extended Rom ONLY.
No IPL, No SPL, No Radio.
I have tested and it works on my Hermes, and Bootloader and Radio stay as is. Please note your result may vary.
Here's the download link
http://rapidshare.com/files/29500131/WM5_Dopod_1.30.707.4__Huchison_3_AU__OS_ExtRom_only.7z
To play safe, I would suggest you to do the following prior flashing the OS rom.
1. Flash boot loader to Hard-SPL-V7
2. Flash your radio rom to 1.38. or 1.40

You can usually restore an old ROM even without Hard-SPL. It makes it a little easier because you can flash even ROMs that are not intended for your device (for example HTC Rom to Vodafone Compact GPS).

Sure. It is a replacement bootloader made by DES and later by Olipro. You'll find it here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1239088
LVSW offers it as a download as well, I don't know why he didn't include it in the update itself (nbh).

Yes, original ROM updates are what I call full updates: Bootloader, Splashscreens, OS, Radio. However they will only overwrite Olipro's Hard-SPL if you use Soft-SPL (sspl) for flashing. Keep that in mind if you want to send your device in for warranty repairs...
Enough noob questions answered For details use search, its not hard.
OK OK one more thing...
If I flash from mun_rus rom back to WM05 and take device for warranty... thay will not accept it?
If you flash it properly (load SSPL first, then run official update) they will have no way of telling the difference.
Obviously this only works if you have access to the official full update.

If your phone is the S300+ (SFR version of Trinity) it's gonna be hard. No SFR ROM is available yet. So you can find the OS part over here and you can save your extended ROM, but it seems to be hard to restore exactly as the same.
I`m just asking out of couriosity...

Hello
My Problem Is The Splash Wm6 Is Withe, I Cannot Start Wm6 Because It Does Not Appear To Me The Splash Wm6.
I installed WM5, the problem not is present.
Help Me
Thancks
Did you fallow the instruction carefully? Did you do hard Spl?
Now you flash back you original rom and do Hard Spl first http://server2.dimonvideo.ru/uploads/public/users/lvsw/Trinity/HardSPL/Hard-SPL.zip then do what ever you want.
Its the bug that occurs with Olipro's Hard-SPL in combination with images made with the tadzio toolkit. Olipro won't fix it because he blames tadzio.
However it works fine with DES's Hard-SPL, at least I never had complaints about my Roms with it.
So I recommend:
- enter bootloader
- flash any OS not made with tadzio
- install DES Hard-SPL
- reflash (without flashing Olipro's Hard-SPL)
Zak-
all i see in the trinity forums is Des' SSPL... not hard-spl.. am i missing something?

Hi Guys,
I have an MDA Vario II on T-Mobile UK. I Understand (I think) the reasons that you guys use HardSPL and Super CID etc but I have a simple query.
I have downloaded the HTC WWE Rom from the links here on this site. Do I have to bother with the normal runaround (HardSPL / Super CID) as this is an "official" update for the hermes ?
I do not intend to use my Hermes with A.n.other provider just T-Mobile. Will I have to do anything special ?
Before you flame me (Somebody will be tempted I am sure) I have read and re-read the forums here, but they all seem to point that the steps like Hardspl and SuperCID are necessary only if applying cooked roms !?!
yes no matter what just cid unlock and get hard spl v7 so you cant brick your hermes

Thanks for the prompt response, I am still confused though. I assumed I didn't have to worry about bricking if I was using the official HTC Rom?
Also I read that HardSPL7 would meant the HTC Rom didn't work and I would have to go with a cooked ROM, in which case I might as well just go Schapps or something. I would like to just go with the basic WM6 ROM HTC provide and tweak it with software. No offence to any of the chefs here of course, but I don't think I need anything fancy.
nuthing will work aprt from the stocck t-mobile rom so you hav to cid and hard spl i got vario 2 aswell and it will not brick if you do these things
than you can flash any rom
Ok Cool. Thanks for the advice. I will let you know how it turns out.

You don't need to do a CID unlock if you apply Hard SPL V7. Hard SPL will make your device think that is SuperCID. You need only SIM unlock if you're going to use other than T-Mobile network.

AFAIK, USPL and HardSPL is not the same thing so the question is valid.
Although I think the only answer to why there is no USPL for Diamond is that no-one has made any. At least yet and AFAIK.
Im interested to hear why USPL have not been written for diamond. Its was out a hiwle ago for the blackstone.
USPL follows the author who made it. He had a Trinity and now he's moved to the Blackstone. USPL option basically is scarce because I believe there is only 1 guy that knows how to do it.
Forgot he's name....
