O2 UK 3G help appreciated. - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam ROM Development

Hello everybody,
I apologise in advance if there exists an answer elsewhere, but I have been searching for the past week to no avail. I'd appreciate if somebody could point me to the right thread/direction.
I upgraded from my stock mda vario2 rom, to the latest schaps (WM6).
Everything works ultra fine but I there is no 3G! I have tried a few different radios and right now i'm on 1.43. I still cannot make video phone calls. The icon is stuck on G. I'm in east london btw.
I believe my O2 uk settings are right though , to te best of my novice knowledge that is.
Again I apologise if this is already addressed in another thread or wiki. Mods, please delete my post if it is a repitition.
Appreciate any help.
Cheers!

you have a tmobile phone or an o2 phone? goto phone settings and check its set to auto

Thanks for the reply,
I have the t-mobile's mda vario2. Tried that already but its still on G.

i have the same problem with an orange 3100. it will only find G not 3G. i have even tried swapping sims but no luck. i have tried all the different settings cabs i can find but no luck

i'm using an orange spv m3100 with no problems on o2uk, and i had 1.43 until yersterday.
o2's signal seems to be inferior to that of orange; i.e. 3g reception not as good
for example i do not get a 3g signal at home on o2, but did on orange, however i do get a 3g signal outside and in other places (on o2)

goggle the site for the field test software.

Call O2 customer service and ask whether you have 3G access activated on your SIM card. I have bought O2 pay as you go SIM card some time ago and it did not access 3G at all, since the very beginning on any 3G phone. Somewhere on the receipt or SIM pack (don't remember now) I've found sth like 'SIM 2G' so that way I figured out card is not meant to log into 3G. But I never bothered to call CS anyway, as I very rarely use that SIM.

Thanks guys,
I'll try all ur suggestions, I did try swapping sims with my wife, hers is an O2 sim which actually has the letter 3G on it, but nope its still Ging on me. I will give O2 a call.

help to unlock XDA Exec

Following Buzz's installation instuctions I am stuck with these two items.
9. Activate Radio even without Sim in it saying something about no Sim)
15. Flash your original Radio ROM. Do not upgrade the bootloader until you restored an original radio rom.
I think I am just about there with number 15 (with the resource on this site) but can not find anything on #9.
I know a lot of people say that it is already unlocked, but it seems unlocked to a few networks.
Regards
hi, XDA Execs should be unlocked
Does it ask you to enter the unlock code if u enter another sim?
If it doesn't then it's unlocked as far as i know.
What makes you believe that it's locked to a few netwroks, maybe it's because you're trying to find a non-existent umts signal...
Turning the radio on means turning flight mode off (and for the purposes of unlocking you do that without a sim)
Hope that helps.
I take it the UMTS is another name for 3G. My BT account is a normal non 3G account. Is it a case that I need to alter some of the settings, the networks it lists are...
@VF-UK
@ O2-UK
@ Orange
Is ther anything I should try....
umm, what happens if you insert a non-o2 sim into your phone?
If it's continually searching for a signal, it might be trying to search for a dodgy 3G/UMTS signal
in which case try going to phone settings, then in the band tab , select GSM instead of auto or wcdma
In the worse case scenario, if/when you flashed the radio 0.00.00, you might have had some problem with your USB (See the unlocking thread)
Thanks for all your help.
I think I have now got to the bottom of this. The fact is that BT use the VF network. The phone logs onto this, so I guess this is normal. However the signal strength never gets above 2 bars, is this normal?

Not anymore, dude. BT sold BT Cellnet (now O2 plc) a little while ago, but now they have started their own mobile service again (called BT Mobile) BUT piggybacking Vodafone's network.

O2 roaming GPRS not working

Hi,
I got my O2 Orbit a day before leaving the UK for Qatar so didn't get a chance to suss this out before I left.
I'm still running on my O2 sim etc. When I arrived the GPRS doesn't register and the GPRS/internet connections etc all keep asking for a modem setup.
Qtel is the operator here but talking to them about roaming internet/gprs connectivity with an xda is fruitless.
I can't get much help out of O2 either....There's got to be a way, there has to be a way.....
Can anybody help at all? Please?
try this
After two or three trips away with o2 device and lots of calls back to the uk my solution was to go through all available networks one at a time and force the device to try data connections I still need to do this five years on even after telling o2 how to connect

GSM connection drops in Belgium & Luxembourg

Hi guys,
I had a strange problem this weekend, my P3600 (bepe rom, dont now the version), works fine in Holland. But when I drove into Belgium the phone switched over to the Belgium T-Mobile, and the connection was gone! The phone tried to re-connect and each time there was an connection for a few seconds, and then it was gone again.
This lasted no matter what I tried. I used the connection Wizard to set the settings the the Belgium network, but that didnt work also.
The phone became terrible slow and even the GPS function was affected (tomtom was not able to find the gps device). After shutting down the gsm with the commanager everything worked fine again, but I was not able to make a call obviously. Back in Holland the phone switched to the Dutch Tmobile and calling was possible again.
Has anyone have this problem before?
regards,
Ron
belgian user here, and never had those kind of problems. maybe the problem is the operator you were supposed to switch network to (depends on your local operator, and which belgian operator he is supposed to work with). maybe you should try switching the band manually to avoid 3G connections, and to force GSM connection. these are the only kind of connection problems I've met here in Belgium...
hope this can help...

I use Vodafone and just finished a trip to Luxenburg, Belgium, France and Germany and then back to Netherlands. I use Karmba ROM and had no problems..
thanks for the quick replies guys!!! i tried to set the gsm operator mannually, but it was pretty hard doing that, as the phone was occupied searching for a network. (errormessage "phone busy"). there is a list with preferred operators in the phone settings part. i think that could be the problem. can somebody with a positive experience post his/her settings? For T-mobile Holland that is ofcourse.
thanks!!!
ps. 3G was switched off

Whos ROM are you using? Try Karmba_a....v.3.0
For good reception in Belgium you really should use one of the big three operators: Mobistar, Proximus and Base.
maybe a problem of the radio rom?
what version are you using?
belgium doesnt have a t mobile network afaik
Try a different radio rom.
Here you are some,I hope I can help you.
Bye

Indeed, that's why I recommend only the 3 main operators.
tnx guys!
I will give my Trin a new Radio rom and check what will happen then, it can't be that difficult I suppose
btw I used al the operators my phone was able to see, and it didnt make a difference..... strange....
If I have more problems, I will drop a line
tnx again

[Q] T-Mobile G2 on AU - Vodafone

Hi everyone,
i recently picked up a G2 on a US trip and am currently trying to set it up to work on the AU vodafone network.
i have gone through the sim "unlock" process, so it should be free to accept any sim card. (it also doesnt prompt me for an unlock code anymore, so im assuming it worked)
when i put the vodafone sim card in the phone, it detects the sim (there is the sim folder in the menu, with the vodafone sim options) and when i use "*#*#4636#*#* i see that there is something in the signal strength (-97dBm 8 asu).
BUT
when i goto settings ->wireless & networks -> mobile networks -> network operators i get an error saying "error while searching for networks"
any ideas?
Shouldn't this be in the G2 forum, not the DZ one ?
Thread moved to G2 General.
I am very interested to know how everything works out for you when you get it resolved.
Im moving to Melbourne from San Francisco in 3 weeks and I am on the fence if I should get a Iphone 4 or a HTC g2
*currently own a HTC Evo ..sadly i have to sell it

welcome to the club my friend
Unfortunately we have the same issue as you but we haven't find a solution yet. So far i have figured out that the phone after unlocking cannot read properly CID and MNCMCC codes from sim.

jee... sounds like the club to be in
5 days now i am trying for a solution. So far nothing to say. Just that users with same problem increase day by day. This might be good as htc will have to pay attention.
i dont know if its me, or if anyone else has noticed this, but if you change the band (auto - USA - Euro - Japan - Aus - Aus2)
then go and try to search for networks, the speed that the error comes up is different... its always the same error though....

You are right about that.
hi, i guess i need to join this club .. any progress for the solution?
I'm using a G2 on Vodafone AU and having no problems at all ...
If I click search networks it sort of just stops immediately with VodafoneAU down the bottom.
The one issue I'm having is that numbers are formatted for US ... anyone know how I change this?
I'm not sure if this is a real long-shot but I had some strange problems with my old Vodafone sim in a HTC Magic. I ended up just going into a Vodafone store and asking for a new SIM and the problems vanished immediately. They give you a new SIM on the spot free so it may be worth a try?
Is your phone working unlocked with the tmobile sim? If it isn't you're got the problem a lot of people have been having with unlocking the G2.
Otherwise, try rebooting your phone with your AU sim search for networks automatically and enter your APN settings. Alternatively if it doesnt find networks, go to Vodafone to get a new sim card. I'm also on Vodafone and I'm not having any problems with my current Tmobile Phone (Cliq) and G2 coming in the mail
Fixed by rooting and gfree
Hi! I had this exact same problem: unlocked a T-mobile G2 bought in the US so that I could use it on Greece's Vodaphone network. After unlocking and trying to check for networks, it would just say "Error while searching for networks".
Solution: I found the solution here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=HTC_Vision#Subsidy_Unlock.2C_SuperCID.2C_and_Radio_S-OFF which describes an extra security measure that was taken on these phones and why you get this error because of it. The fix, described in detail on that page, involves routing your phone and then running a program to change this security "feature".
I followed the directions on that wiki page and it worked perfectly! It now connects to my vodaphone network here, and can see other networks that are around.
Note that as this is altering the software on your phone, it probably voids any warranty. But, I'll say with my US t-mobile G2 it worked very smoothly.
Hope this gives some insight to any others having this problem!

[Q] Network service problem

Hello!
My HTC Desire HD have recently a problem when trying to connect to a network provider. My service provider is Mobistar in Belgium.
When I attempt to connect to a network manually, I get “Your SIM card does not allow a connection to this network”.
I tryed the same SIM in another phone, it works fine.
I have already tried: changing the wireless band, fly mode on and off, factory reset, *#*#4636#*#*, removing battery. Two days ago i rooted the HTC (custom rom, new radio) but it is still the same...
Now here comes the odd part. If i remove my sim, put it in a different phone and switch that phone on, then remove again and put it back into my HTC, it works normally for a few hours.
Yesterday, i inserted a simcard from another country and it works perfectly. So if it is in roaming, it works...
HTC Desire HD
Android 2.3.5 - Android Revolution HD 7.3
Kernel: 2.6.35.14-RCMIX3D-V12-CRD-gec898d5-dirty
Radio:12.65.60.29U_26.14.04.28_M
I don't know what is the problem, if anyone can help me, i appreciate
Thank you very much!
Does that provider use another network? Maybe need to turn on roaming (or change roaming settings).
Just a guess tho, goodluck with it.

Thank you for your answer.
I searched and i didn't find anything that says that my provider uses another network. (and i didn't find the roaming settings, just the roaming data on/off, maybe that is automatic)
My girlfriend have also the same phone (HTC Desire HD) and also the same provider, and she doesn't have any problems.
I don't understand why if i change my simcard to another phone and then put it back to my phone it works for some hours, till it says limited service...Then i can't do anything less then put it again in another phone if i want to use it again. Or use the simcard from my land (Portugal) in this phone.
The phone is from Belgium, unlocked, the simcard is from Mobistar. My portuguese simcard is from Vodafone Portugal and it connects to Proximus in roaming (another provider from Belgium).
Thank you very much. I hope to find a solution

Ok, well the best of luck with it.

Maybe the provider did something to it, else i don't know.
Goodluck!
